You do know that I am not talking about that stuff

No, I didn't know because you didn't explain yourself. At all. You just threw broad generalisations out there that Facebook censored "some crap". If you are going to engage in these discussions please do others the service of being specific and factual.

Quote from: Andol on December 14, 2020, 05:33:44 PMHere in Georgia we had a few counties that really really screwed up the handling of the votes and as well as the method of storage on drives and other various things.

I must have completely missed that. Have you a link to these events please?

I like independent media. Can you make some suggestions?

I like a channel on YouTube called Secular Talk for feeding my political junky needs.  I readily admit my bias of being fairly far left (at least in the US, for all I know I might just pass as a moderate over at the grown-up's table).  But while you know the guy's political position without any question, he hits both sides hard when they deserve it and calls out good things when it's done regardless of the party of the person doing it.

I see that Trump is still claiming that he won?

How is that possible? Even more importantly, how does it not make people turn away from Trump? This is embarrassing!

BTW. I just saw Trump tweeting about the elections having been manipulated by foreign powers...  ::)

Trumps brain is infintesimally small, that's how.

As for the cult of personality, well he's a used car salesman, he works out your vulnerabilities and exploits them to sell you trash.

A big part of it, i think, is we've never had a president act remotely like this before. Most of our presidents were fairly trustworthy (as far as politicians go). I think a lot of people are believing it because why would he fight so hard if it wasn't true? Of course, that's coming from the perspective of one who believes he is a reasonable person, and not a giant con artist with delusions of grandeur and a firm belief that the rules don't apply to him.

Unfortunately, what he's done, and been allowed to do, is irreparably damage our electrons and democracy. There's no going back to 'normal' politics after this.

Dignified.  Our previous presidents were - the vast majority of the time - dignified.  Even Nixon, who was the least trustworthy of the lot in modern memory.  They didn't make up schoolyard nicknames, stomp out of press conferences, and behave like an undisciplined toddler, all while bouncing around the country doing fuckall.

I wonder at what point he will leave the White House. He will have to eventually. Presumably he'll go back to Trump Tower and keep ranting from there. It is very sad and disheartening to see one of the world's superpowers have a dysfunctional, spiteful brat as their leader. Pathetic is the only word I can use to sum it all up.

BTW all a poster yesterday mentioned some big election issues/mistakes in Georgia. I've never heard this before. I have been looking but can't find anything. Is this true?

Surely, when the vote is very close this is exactly why you do a recount? And missed votes are then counted in. Where's the problem?

Many states have laws that, if the initial tally of the votes is close (say within 1 or half a percentage point), there is a mandatory recount. Many states also allow candidates to request a recount regardless of the margin between candidates. In Wisconsin, for instance, Trump asked for a recount of two specific counties, but since the law in Wisconsin is different from Georgia, he had to pay for the recount to the tune of $3 million.

The result of which resulted in Joe Biden gaining 87 more votes.

Doubt he will, given he’s changed his residency to Florida, is remodeling his place in Mar-largo, and is being investigated in New York for multiple frauds.

I’d say it’s even money that he takes a ‘vacation’ to somewhere with no extradition treaty

Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime fixer and lawyer, claims Trump will go to Mar-a-Lago for Xmas and never go back. Initially I thought heading out of the country was an option, but Trump doesn't like being seen as a loser (I know, right?) and is American through and through. He needs his minions and menial hangers-on, his fast food and not to back down. I'm sure he sees it as reasonable that he can just procedure/draw out any law suits against him into oblivion. He always has before, plus the GOP will do his bidding and decry any legitimate law suits as "against the best for the country."

Well, well, well. Mitch McConnell recognises that "The Electoral College has spoken", and suddenly he is a traitor.

It is so delectable to see the Trump base lashing out at anyone breaking ranks.

Some deeply twisted and bitter humans out there...

Putin recognised Biden as P-E today as well, I wonder if they are spewing hate at him as well, because, you know, he's Trump's buddy too.

The Lovely Tsaritsa

On Russian news programme, 60 Minutes, they say that Republicans, it’s time for giving the up, their master recognised the outcome. And, they mean Putin is their master, of course. They also thank Mr Trump, for discrediting the American electons, and democracy, for rest of the world.

To me, one of the most admirable qualities of the US constitution and of American constitutional tradition is the way it encourages (or even demands) true collegiate decision-making. The emphasis is not on the work of a few strongmen with unrestrained authority, but on working out policies together, securing proper advice and setting up avenues for controlling or challenging decisions through the courts (though not endless frivolous lawsuits and joke complaints). Trump has been attacking that framework from day one, on many fronts: he always saw himself as the King or CEO of America, the center of chains of top-down vertical authority with people obeying HIM, taking oaths of silence and loyalty to him, and with few or no real limits to his personal powers.

He's not the first one to try to break down those frameworks, but he's been more consistent and unrelenting with it than any other president in modern US history.

Well the thing is there's no such thing as a democracy that isn't literally spelled out letter for letter. I've come to believe anything less is a time bomb.

Putin recognises Mr Biden, its very chilly though. With Mr Obama, and Mr Trump, he always he hopes, for more better relatons, between US and Russia. He doesnt say this, at all, for Mr Biden.
