I’ll be honest, I wanted him and Pelosi gone in their respective leadership roles. Neither has inspired confidence in their ability to change. Both, in my opinion, are petty tyrants who care more about themselves than the country.

Agreed...at least there is some noise about Pelosi not running again. Will see if that actually happens. For now, I'll take the victories we can get.

Dear Georgia Republicans.

Suck. My. Dick.

Deamonbane

The race has been called in favor of Rev. Warnock. As of right now, Ossoff leads Perdue by 12,806 votes, or 0.2 percentage points, and is too close to call.

Can he escape on board Air Force One and land it in Moscow? After all, a German teenager called Mathias Rust managed to fly his own small plane to land on Red Square, back in the final years of the Cold War... :)

Well, I doubt he'd use Air Force One as its crew are military personnel as the name implies, and he loses any authority over them as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces as soon as he no longer holds office as President. If he decided to head to Moscow while still holding office it would be a state visit, and those things take a lot of organising between the State Department and the host country. On the other hand if he heads there on a private plane as a private citizen then that hurdle is removed, but with the COVID pandemic it's possible that countries on the way to Moscow won't let his jet refuel at the airport for the next leg of the journey.

The idea of a former US President with a record of greed and a grudge against the government of the United States showing up in a national capital with a headful of secrets to sell to a potentially hostile power would probably rank pretty high on the nihgtmare scale of security breaches for US national security.

0.2% yes, but theremaining vote counts are in heavily blue counties, giving little breathing room for the reds.

Missy

Also, there not that many votes left to count, so even if the remaining ones went red, it wouldn't be enough to change the vote, at this point it's just a question of whether or not Ossof pulls far enough ahead to evade an automatic recount.

gaggedLouise

Big surprise that after the two Republican/Trumpian candidates were narrowly beaten, the accusations of "another rigged election" start flying again.  ::)

Looks like Jon Ossoff is going to come out on top, especially considering the remaining counties to finish counting, so the more pressing question is whether he has sufficient margin to avoid dragging this out with a recount.

Perhaps those Republican idiots telling their voters not to vote has been enough to do their party irreparable damage.

Also, you know, if you were going to rig a vote, in November as well as now, you'd make sure you had a clear(er) margin. No-one would break the law so badly and manufacture a very close call situation. But that argument requires logic which is lacking in certain quarters.

Not yet, in georgia the margin is 0.5% As of thei morning he's got a lead of 0.4%, with one county at 80% of it's count, so it's possible to avoid an automatic recount, but as about as likely it will be auto-recounted.

Of course that says nothing of the theatre the Trumpophants are about to pull regardless.

There was an Uncle Sam meme on here a while ago and I showed it to a friend and they have done an edit. I've spoilered it due to profanity, be aware it contains the F word.

So anyway at this point it's up to the Democrats to uphold American Democracy - or let it go to the birds. At this moment they have the power, they can take the steps necessary to preserve American Democracy and resollidify it's foundation or ignore the rot which will inevitably bring America into conflict with it's own professed virtues. It's all up to the blues now.

TheGlyphstone

How does one preserve democracy against those trying to destroy it without resorting to measures that would, themselves,  undermine democracy? Not challenging, just a line of thought.

Missy

For one thing, holding Trump accountable for the Georgia call and anything else there is to hold him accountable for, Trump is normalizing the behavior which will destroy democracy. Making sure criminal prosecution against the very thigns the law is intended to prevent would be the best start.

Restoring a bunch of those "voter's rights" things that we "didn't need anymore" wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

Let's also limit and enshrine the powers of Congressional leadership in law. I think we've learned over the last decade that the power of the Senate majority leader is broken. A single person, elected by a single state, should not be capable of grinding the entire legislative process to a halt.

Haibane

/\ This.

Presidential pardons should become a rubber stamp process with the actual pardoned people being 100% proposed by senate/congress.

legomaster00156

I disagree. I think the President should be able to pardon people, as the executive branch is generally the fastest-working part of the bureaucracy. It should, however, still be an administrative process, with pardons going through review by civil servants before ever being considered by the President.

Haibane

That would suffice, the main issue being that no pardon should be at the whim of the president.

Haibane

Not looking good in DC. Trump has incited his supporters to march on the Capitol building. This is the result.

Judge Merrick Garland who was disrespected by the GOP is onboard to become Attorney General.  A man who was slated to sit on the highest court in the land will now hold the reins of the chief investigative office and department and will have the right and power to decide the direction to be taken in the future to settle the justice so long overlooked during the last four years.

I hate to say it Andol, but if this is the person you’re using as a primary information source for foreign policy, you’re using dangerously misleading information.

Well I know they have a section that their English speaking channel is much smaller than the one that I believe is for Indian's. As I said I am new at this, and so wasn't a fan of their channel at the time that video was made, nor have I watched them all. Just ones with either amusing titles or those that catch my eye, but thanks for getting me know to take it with a grain of salt from now on. Sorry for my mistake... I just really didn't know until now.

What drew me into watching was the fact this was how I first learned about what happened when China and India decided to have a little fight in the summer and India gave them a bloody nose.

If you know of any similar channel's/podcast that are more reliable sources I would be happy to listen to them. I have always felt I could trust independent media more so that was the reason I used a source like this. Again sorry I put up something that was disinformation.

As for what is going on in Georgia... ah well... hopefully things won't change to much in my local area and we can just do better next time at the voting box. Not all of use are going to whine about a loss after all. XD

The Capitol is on lockdown after protestors on behalf of 45 have attacked the building.  No one is allowed to leave the building due to the tension outside caused by 45 supporters.

Deamonbane

The House has gone into recess, and I'm getting word that Nancy Pelosi and Pence being evacuated.

Here's the thing: large newspapers become prominent news sources because they're reliable. In fact, any legitimate news source will have publicly available information on their journalistic standards and policies. As some examples...

https://cm.usatoday.com/ethical-conduct/
https://www.nytco.com/company/standards-ethics/
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/ask-the-post/wp/2016/01/01/policies-and-standards/

Hell, even BuzzFeed does.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/shani/the-buzzfeed-editorial-standards-and-ethics-guide#.yygBp0x5z

If your news source seeks to keep their standards under wraps (as, for example, CNN does, or Fox News, or almost every Youtube "journalist"), it should not be trusted as a primary source. A secondary one, sure, if they refer back to the trusted source they got their news from.
