I've been watching and listening to CNBC live and they have given - more or less play by play - reporting on the situation.

This is an attempt of a forceful overthrow of the transition proceedings.

Yup. Saying "Black Lives Matter" gets you labeled a rioter, shot at with tear gas and rubber bullets, handcuffed, thrown in jail and treated like a terrorist and the news showing endless footage of a broken window four cities away.

Actually being a terrorist and trying to violently overthrow the government gets you patted on the head and called a peaceful protester as long as you have a MAGA hat on while the media flails because they can't figure out how to blame this on progressives.

I just saw video of an armed protestor using his weapon to break windows of the Capitol building so others could enter.

CNN was saying two sources have confirmed it, and she's in critical condition.

I wish I could say I'm shocked but I'm not - shock includes a level of surprise, and this has been brewing since the November election. The fact that the Georgia election which would decide the control of the Senate took place the day before the counting of the electoral college votes only added fuel to the flames. Hopefully not literally.

CNN also showed a picture supposedly from the floor of the House of Reps with some sort of confrontation and one person pointing a pistol at each other.

An outgoing but still-sitting President inciting violence against the sitting government.

Sorry, guys. This is treason, plain and simple. It would be treason for any citizen to do it, and the President is simply primus inter pares among the citizenry. Even if the totally unsubstantiated (ie, bogus) claims of massive voter fraud were true, there would be no excuse for this, and there is no defense for it.

It doesn't matter, you can't spend months and years stoking the embers and then say a few shorts words after the fire has exploded.

The future of American Democracy depends on peopel like Trump being held accountable for their actions and character in office.

The last four years have to be deligitimized, if they aren't then this is the new normal.

Also, a mea culpa on my mention of the House of Reps photo I mentioned - it showed several people with pistols but they were pointing them at the door to the chamber, not at each other. Apparently they were part of the security force for the House ready for any of the mob that managed to break in.

According to CNN people have broken into Pelosi's office and left a message:  "We will not back down!"

For months now, I've been saying some sort of shit like this would happen. And I absolutely believe this will not be the end, either. I believe that, regardless of how this ends tonight, that there will be flare-ups of further violence and sedition throughout the rest of this month.

It doesn't matter, you can't spend months and years stoking the embers and then say a few shorts words after the fire has exploded.

The future of American Democracy depends on peopel like Trump being held accountable for their actions and character in office.

The last four years have to be deligitimized, if they aren't then this is the new normal.

Trump, and his most loyal flunkies, should be hung, beheaded, or executed via firing squad. That, in my opinion, is the only way to shut this down.
