For months now, I've been saying some sort of shit like this would happen. And I absolutely believe this will not be the end, either. I believe that, regardless of how this ends tonight, that there will be flare-ups of further violence and sedition throughout the rest of this month.
Trump, and his most loyal flunkies, should be hung, beheaded, or executed via firing squad. That, in my opinion, is the only way to shut this down.

Martyring Trump will only make it worse. He needs to be made to look weak.

I usually avoid this thread- I honestly do understand why Trump voters voted for Not Another Politician, even if I don't get his personal appeal (especially to anyone who's ever worked for a living).

But I do have to say it's funny that, after all the screaming about 'Socialism' during the campaign...Trump supporters are in essence storming the Bastille in 'defense' of one-party rule and a man firmly committed to the autocratic style of the rulers of Russia, China, and N. Korea.

To think I was going to come on here and celebrate the success of Georgia. And as I look at the coverage on CBSN, holy shit. I have a lot of initial thoughts and hopefully they come off well in the forms of text. I admit I'm a whirlwind of emotions and at a loss on how to process this.

Im aware that people were upset but never in my wildest dreams would those in support of Trump go through with something like this. People were frightened and angry yes, and I was as well in 2016. But I didn't do anything close to this, merely drink and channel my anger into FPS video games. Unfortunately the brainwashing seems to be too much for people in D.C. and now lives are being destroyed to feed another man's ego. A lot of people are at fault for this event but Im trying (perhaps in vain) to find the silver lining in all this.

The lives being lost is still unacceptable and the lives being destroyed is not worth the support of one man. I expected better of these people. But this act is something that people cannot ignore on a fundamental level. This will have consequences for both those doing the violence and the ones that encouraged it. Militias and leaders are needing more than being told off. Horrible people cheered and poked the suggestible into fighting a battle for them. Even if legal action isn't taken against the enablers, the trust these enablers had will be gone. My hopes however are that this causes legitimate charges to be thrown at those whom encouraged them and enabled them.

I'm both sad this happened, and hopeful this will make more people back away from these folks whom don't have their interests at heart but use them to fight their own battles.

To the question of holding Trump accountable for his actions without making him a martyr? Simple, you apprehend, put him on trial and expose everything he did. Full investigation. Publicly place it on the papers and elsewhere. Show them he never had their best interests to begin with. Videos like this of Trump fanatics and militias trying to stage a coup and usurp power by means of violence needs to be on repeat and is a good start.
