Bowers has pleaded "not guilty" to the Pittsburgh shooting. I guess that's just part of the courtroom formalities - not sure how he might deny that he willfully killed those people? :(

Arraignment is a routine part of the judicial process. Most jurisdictions require arraignment very, very quickly after the arrest. A not-guilty plea here isn't indicative of anything; it can always be withdrawn later. Given the sensationalism of this case, I would be very surprised if the prosecutor has even discussed a plea agreement with Bowers' attorney.

I thought "the purge" was a fake, that's how crazy it sounds. But nope… There were several different messages for it, one mentioned "doing what you want to women" so I decided NOT to go and have a look at all.

QuoteGOP lawmaker calls for Biblical law: Washington state Rep. Matt Shea publishes manifesto calling for the execution of all males who refuse to follow “Biblical law.”

In a disturbing development, Washington state Rep. Matt Shea releases a four-page Christian manifesto titled “Biblical Basis for War.” The document calls for “Biblical law”, and suggests that those men who support gay marriage and abortion rights should be executed.

Why do people keep twisting religion into a horrible thing to use to try and use as an excuse to go crazy and do/want to do horrible things that normally people would condemn them for.
Even more concerning, why are there so many who support these kind of well maniacs and psycho's....

I mean, if you go on a killing spree, killing a hundred people no matter who they are, people will condemn you and everyone will be against you.
If you suggest to go on a killing spree because of religious reasons, there are people who will support you.

For the record, the law code of Moses stipulates the death penalty for crossdressing.  C:)

yeah and how does that kinda work with the Thou shalt not kill commandment?

Deamonbane

It got really clear really quick in the Bible that that law was... circumstantial. God told Abraham to kill Isaac. God told King Saul to kill all the Amalekites, as well as all their animals, and cursed Saul for disobeying.

If a god is that flippy-floppy with their own rules, how do you expect their followers to act differently?

And see, this is why I stopped following religion. The rules make sense if you look at the circumstances of the times they were written, by modern standards most of them are horribly xenophobic and close minded.

I don't know. Specially when you remember these are the same people screaming about how they don't want muslims because that leads to sharia laws. but are perfectly fine witrh the christian version of the same.

QuoteDozens of major companies have warned the Trump administration to stop attacking transgender people. 56 corporations joined the statement to “oppose any administrative and legislative efforts to erase transgender protections.”

Some good news on this bleak day.

Sounds like a good justification for Separation of Church and State to me ^_^  As the founding fathers intended.

Biblical justice - that sounds like something Mr. Trump should be subjected to. :)  O:)

I'm pretty cynical about that. Do said companies still do business with states with bathroom laws? Cause if so they aren't gonna actually stop doing anything because of Trump.

That's a healthy level of skepticism, just the right amount that we need. :) But on the other hand, we need every bit of help that we can. We just need to hold the companies to their word.

Tolvo

Oh god Twitter is on there. Twitter super hates trans people. And saw a few other companies that are known for having super hostile work spaces for trans people. Yeah my cynicism grows.

I don’t get it. I know like at least 9 folks I real life that are trans or transitioning and I know the process has been around for what like 40-50 years and there has been damn little evidence of what is being put out as justification for these damn laws. One friend has had to leave the state because her transition came with death threats because she was a teacher (special needs)

Because its really all about scapegoating, and keeping people in control. Give them something alien to their lives and blame it for something, force them to focus on it instead of the corrupt politicians, instead of how some things are beyond their control, and make them feel good for hating it. Make them hate it and praise them for it and they will vote for you again and again, getting more and more puppet strings attached to them while you, as their glorious leader, claim they are real people now, more than ever.

I wish I remembered Animal Farm enough to quote from it. It would work much better than me making vaguely philosophical stuff off the top of my head. :P

And gays and lesbians are now accepted enough that they don't really make good targets. But us trans people are still rare enough and misunderstood enough to be a good target

Tolvo

To be fair it's also a core part of Nazi ideals to exterminate us, as was seen when early on the Nazis burned all research they could find on trans people and put us in camps.
