Cassandra: I hope you're right. But I have a nasty feeling all it will do is to serve the European Right to marshal their forces. And then we'll have a city-state Europe again, divided by squabbles.

this is what the DNC gets for shanking bernie, playing dirty, and ignoring their base.

See there's a major problem for the GOP... now they have to actually govern or be destoryed by the popular resentment.

they are the establishment now... good luck  ;D
Prudence, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, love...
debate any other aspect of my faith these are the heavenly virtues. this flawed mortal is going to try to adhere to them.

Culture: the ability to carve an intricate and beautiful bowl from the skull of a fallen enemy.
Civilization: the ability to put that psycho in prision for killing people.

The problem being in that the four years they get to run wild without checks from any other government branch, they'll be able to do an incalculable amount of damage.

The cycle will just keep repeating.  The economy was rebounding over the last eight years from the sewer the previous eight flushed it into.  Now, it's back to the sewers and the swamp and people wondering what the hell happened.

This is assuming that the Republican led Congress will be in lockstep with President Trump. It's likely there will be some working together but the Congress is going to act as a brake on any wild/stupid ideas the President might have. Instead of panicking, the best anyone can do right now is wait and see how Trump acts and how the Congress acts. The 2018 elections will be a judge on how well the American people think the President and Congress did. They do bad, the Congress could change hands. They do well for the American people, the Congress can stay in Republican hands.

One note: I do not like the ACA. I think it's an abomination of a medical coverage bill that should be scrapped, but I will say this; the Republicans had better have something decent to replace it before tearing Obamacare apart. As bad as I think the ACA is, it -did- give medical coverage to millions of Americans that didn't have it before. So there had better be something on the table to replace it if/when it is removed.

Lustful Bride

Remember as well there were quite a few Republicans who did not like Trump. So its not like the entire congress will kiss his ass. In fact knowing congress, they would prefer it the other way around.

Oh my god....I actually feel glad congress is inept and corrupt.... >_>

I'm not worried about the Legislature rubber-stamping Trump's nonsense. I'm worried about Trump giving free rein to the regressive social and civil rights efforts of a mass GOP Legislature, with a GOP Supreme Court standing by to approve everything as 'constitutional'. Roe vs. Wade could be under serious threat. There are 'bathroom bills' in seventeen states that could still be signed into law. And that's just in DC - the rippling side effects from electing a man the Klu Klux Klan officially endorsed could, despite my prayers otherwise, result in a massive upsurge in hate crimes from simple apparent validation of their twisted beliefs.

I would discount the KKK endorsement as being relevant or worth worrying about. The KKK is no longer a mainstream organization or politically relevant. They are a fringe bunch of groups (as far as I know, there is no central leadership of the KKK and it's really just a bunch of groups under a similar name) that might want to be relevant, but fail in so many ways. Don't give groups like them the time of day, just let them spout their crap as they fade into further irrelevance.

What we need to be aware of is:

Executive Orders

In times of emergency, the president can override congress and issue executive orders with almost limitless power. Abraham Lincoln used an executive order in order to fight the Civil War, Woodrow Wilson issued one in order to arm the United States just before it entered World War I, and Franklin Roosevelt approved Japanese internment camps during World War II with an executive order. Many other executive orders are on file and could be enacted at any time.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/executive_power

If Trump abuses this power it could play havoc with our country.

Another thought:  Last night it was suggested that the 'generals' - those in charge of the Armed Forces - may be studying regs governing their ability of ignore the orders of the Commander in Chief if they were of the opinion his orders would jeopardize our country, our citizens or our safety.  Something to think about.

If it's comforting to anyone;

Most republicans aren't, and weren't, for Trump. He'll have to appease them, or at least not do anything that doesn't risk their jobs in the next election. He also can't do anything that would breach rights, or act out. As he has to be realistically aware that Republicans would honestly look for any chance to impeach him, just so they can have Pence.
PMs are open for all role play inquiries.

Twisted Crow

I am kind of in that camp. I don't trust Hillary, but I distrust Trump slightly less. Trump will still have to prove himself.

Although I didn't vote for either of them in this election.

At the same time he's also compiling a list of enemies: http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/09/politics/omarosa-list-donald-trump/index.html

At the moment, most of that list so far are filled with other GOP representatives, and it's unknown how many others will end up on the chopping block from that side (I'm thinking quite possibly even his own VP at some point). But it's only a matter of time before he includes everyone else. Certainly there will be resistance, perhaps even a lot of it on some issues (like free trade or Russia), but as recent history has shown we shouldn't count on the Republican establishment to have a backbone, or to prevail in the long run.

Companies that would benefit by loosening regulations as proposed by Trump saw their stock price increase. As did private prison companies.

It's only good if you are invested in said industries in some manner.

I've already had friends being attacked for being Mexican, Muslim, and LGBT. I've heard of attacks from my home state of California of young black adults being attacked relentlessly. Children are being bullied in schools.

I'm so scared for this country.

.... Children are being bullied in schools.
That's not really news. Sadly, this has been going on almost from the start of his (primary) campaign. The SPLC reported on it a while ago, and Rolling Stone had an article/interview about the "Trump Effect" not long ago (link to the SPLC survey is in the article): http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/features/the-trump-effect-how-hateful-rhetoric-is-affecting-children-w448515

I worry greatly for my son.  He's openly trans and gay, President of the GSA at his high school, doesn't back down from anyone, and lives in an 80%+ conservative community.  With Trump as President, vile people are emboldened everywhere to exhibit their hateful behavior.

Also remember that the dollar has dropped in value against some currencies, which means that it's become cheaper for foreign investors to buy US stocks. Same thing happened in the UK when the pound lost value but the FTSE100 rose after the Brexit referendum, although it doesn't seem to happening on the same scale in the US.

Grade A Creeper right there, looks like Canada's got their suit on straight though, considering taking him off the bench.
