Haha, that's what I was thinking too. What if the queen didn't tell the king about what all this really meant? :-)

Hence why such training happens in an controlled environment. For now. Otherwise what's stopping some nosy inquisition of Vaalsoth from intervening? Of course another thing to consider is sublety. Hard to get outraged if the princess doesn't look like her. Not to mention other beer for wells might also be after her. Anora help us if we lose her. :)

Rune

Good idea. The King could still be protective of his daughter even as his wife tell the party they have to do anything they can to get her to release her pent up power.

Gremgoblin

"Hey, king Leo, we did as your wife told us. We gangbanged and fucked her into submission to make her the most powerful she could be-"

"You did what?!"

"... we trained her just like you asked us to."

I'm render of the ninja red box animation. Your players will always go off the rails and in spectacular fashion. Escort missions turn into massacres and assassinations become diplomatic missions

"Really guys?"

A good way of looking at it. :-) Starting to think I may have shot myself in the foot by making him so much of an outsider, but what is done is done, and I thought the best way to make things interesting is to come up with something out of the box and different.

I think approaching a position in the party from such an overtly hostile/dangerous angle can definitely work though! Like Tavarokk said, there's a lot of possible combinations that could field interesting results, and off the top of my head I can see developments being made out of some of the more conniving/control type dommes getting a lot of characterization milage/keeping their hands full dealing with Nunyed as an internal threat/potential threat.

So yeah going off the rails seems probable, regardless of whether there's royal intervention in the form of 'shit I change my mind' or not.

That was sort of my pitch to our dear GM too. :-) From what I had briefly read there were a lot of loyalists to the king or people who like and/or want to fuck the princess silly. I figured, to throw both those people a bone from within the party, it might be interesting for them to keep an eye on Nunyed and his intentions, actions, and of course the potential of deceit from Nunyed's end. I don't think I'd ever go that route (i.e. go actively against the mission) because that'd just make things harder than they really need to be and it just sort of makes things un-fun if there's someone in the party actively trying to do everything but take care of the princess, but as far as the IC goes, nobody would know Nunyed wouldn't do that, not even he himself.

Nunyed is, of course, as much a threat to the princess as he is to the other players, in terms of exerting their control over the situation. Nunyed would definitely be headstrong in that regard and he really has no reason to take shit from anyone, given that he doesn't exactly want to be there. I guess whether players/their characters find that annoying is up to them. I'm glad to hear you see at least some merit in my idea, though! I was starting to worry people might think he's just an asshole and nothing more.

I mean really he is, but I'm not. :-(

Just a dump of what my character would think of the others. The idea is shamelessly stolen from Princess Buggy, and then further edited for viewing pleasure. Code version is below if you want to steal it for yourself because I shamelessly want to know more about your characters, damnit! because I'm just a nice guy, I guess.

Delona's Opinions on the current Character Concepts
Mortimer - "Seemingly just a simple Gypsy fellow? His scope and ambition seem limited, but his talents are undeniable, as is the calibre of his company." {Underestimates him, but has to begrudgingly respect his deeds.}
Victoria - "An adventurer with some history slaying a Beholder? Impressive, if not exaggerated. I imagine many of her...assets...might be a little exaggerated." {Curious, but unconvinced by the claims made.}
Cedevax - "A Wild Beast with a lick of cunning and a hint of ambition. What's not to like? Maybe the lack of a good collar, although I doubt he'd let me rectify that. Shame, really." {Mild attraction, and curiosity, with a hint of a thought at offering alliance.}
Tallia - "A harlot, a Spy, and a Magic-user to boot. What a fascinating combination. She seems to lack a certain...cut-throat edge. I can't imagine not using that position to rise up to the throngs of nobility." {Sees her as mostly Naïve, but understands her usefulness and appreciates it greatly.}
Evilin - "Finally; someone with some ambition and some spine to go with the pretty face. I'd happily pay for the services of a skilled sneak, but anyone who can be bought can be bought out." {Curious, but cautious. Hard to trust someone motivated purely by coin.}
Erkhardt - "A Nobleman with a debt to pay to another family, and seemingly no desire to pay it further? Either you have secrets, or you brush the floor clean as you walk." {Seemingly quite confused by the man's sparing of the Dacre killing. His lack of ambition is troubling to her, because she knows best how to trust and control people through a shared - or at least perceived shared - objective.}
Baerdur - "A bawdy drunken braggart, or a bawdy drunken liar. Either way, he is as difficult to trust as his smell is to tolerate." {Low levels of disdain, as his stories about his time with the king seem outlandish and unbelievable. Might grow to like him if they are true, but doesn't really operate on the same wavelength as him.}
Lilianne - "An untested, arrogant, and rather ambitious noblewoman...How familiar." {Sees waaaay too much of herself in the woman to not be curious...and a little cautious.}
Delona - "The very peak of perfection in this adventure, and the finest weaver of the arcane you'll find in the land who doesn't need assistance going to the chamber pot." {This is me, and I think me are great!}
Jokull - "Enigmatic, seemingly in touch with the wilds, and potentially a similar kind of magic as the Queen's, and the Princess'? Colour me intrigued." {Deeply curious. Anyone with connections to the Queen and her unusual Wilderness magic automatically pique her interest. Him being a handsome ethereal outsider does a few favours too.}
Winona - "There is...quite a lot to like about this woman. Power, an intriguing set of skills, and a seeming need of someone ambitious to guide them both. Shame she's married to the Prince, or I might consider her a...viable alternative." {Honestly? Quite attracted to the idea of her, but knows that she is out of her reach while the Prince is married to her. Might enjoy exploring a loophole or two.}
Nuneyd -  "Untrustworthy. He is a coward and a charlatan at best, and an unstable, volatile unknown at the worst. I'd ask him what his beliefs are on fundamental arcanology, but he didn't even bloody work for his magic!" {Sees as an instant rival; both because he is hard to predict, willing to commit acts that put him against the common grain, and because he has similar levels of Magical power as her. Let the hate-fucking begin!}
Beldon/Belle - "Honestly, I didn't even know she existed; but it makes a lot of sense. Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the decoy back at home? Perhaps the King wants to make sure he has a loyal set of eyes on his pretty, powered prize?" {Dismissive of her as a pawn in the game. Doesn't think she has a major role to play in this because she's seemingly just a lackey who wouldn't dare raise a hand to the Princess.}
Melanthe - "Any connection to the Queen and her unusual powers is worthy of additional study, and this tree-spirit is certainly someone to put under a very keen, very hungry eye." {Openly attracted, and intensely curious. Connections to the Queen are a big win. Honestly, the main thing that keeps the Princess higher on the list of desires is the status attached to her.}
Arg'hash - "Cute little Druid; is the Princess driving your 'natural instinct' wild? She is certainly a fascinating thing. Care to indulge in my little experiments too?" {Condescendingly dismisses him, and thinks he'll be easily manipulated. Will instantly become more intrigued by him when she learns of his connection to the Queen.}
Carlness - "You are a rather alien man, aren't you? I'd offer to pick your brain but...well, that would be considered an insensitive turn of phrase, I assume?" {Dismissive of the stranger, if not a little intrigued by his connection to the Alien beings he talks about.}
Abigail - "Finally, a worthy opponent in the pursuits of the mind! I wish to challenge you to a game of chess. Let us see how Clanmil cunning stacks up against the College's finest Arcane mind." {Curious. Game recognises game, and Delona sees an intelligent woman to spar with. Might end up teasing her if she clams up too much, and will definitely pick at the woman's height if she figures out it gets a rise from her.}
Ashivon - "A rehabilitated pet cultist? How quaint. The Queen truly does keep interesting bed-fellows..." {Struggles to gauge the Enigmatic individual, but is mostly dismissive of him as another sideshow of the Queens, and not the real 'main event.'}
Roland - "I'm legitimately struggling to decide whether this erstwhile Dukeling is bored, or just boring. Should be fun trying to coax a conversation out of him... see if the mountains put brains in their leader's heads, or rocks." {Curious about what the man actually wants, considering he mostly seems like he lacks ambition and yet also sits in a position of power; something that just seems oxymoronic to Delona.}
Cassian - "A man of action, but seemingly not one of much ambition. There is a place for people like you, but I wonder if it's...y'know...here." {Finds his relationship and place on the mission befuddling. Expects him to be straight-laced and formal around the Princess, unaware of his...proclivities.}
Zerran - "Ambition is an attractive trait, and he doesn't look half bad either. Shame he has as much name value as his erstwhile mother, but could still be a fun ally." {Respects the ambition required to act as he does. Even quite likes the roguish charms of the man.}
Rok'maar - "Another big handsome Northern brute. Seems more like a glorified Bull-tamer, but I do always like to offer my words to the ears of the willing, and those worth the effort." {Curious about his lineage and Clan. Sees an opportunity for co-operation, and would happily have a big brute of an Orc at her beck and call.}
Logan - "I almost...pity the man. To have such firm belief in a purpose, only to have it ripped away...Sadly, civilisation thrives on adaptation, and he seems too focused on the past to make a true name for himself." {Slightly sympathetic, but thinks he's a fool not moving on and focusing his skills on newer threats.}

As an aside, I thought I should add the disclaimer that: One, I am going off of the readings I took from the brief character descriptions (Because seriously; I want to know more damnit!) and Two, I mean no one any offence if you think my interpretations are unfair, uncalled for, or unjust. The narrator of those thoughts is kinda bitchy.

Who is your Character? Abigail Limner - Human Artificer (Armourer)
(Maybe a futa? Depends on others' preferences)
Potential Art
Out of armour
In armour

Where are they from?
The Fortress City of Clanmil, a citadel and surrounding lands lying in the south-west of the continent, formerly unassociated with any monarchy or higher power, overseen by the Barons of Illumination whose heads only bow the the Lady of Steel, the giant known as Vessen, slayer of the Iron Lich who previously dominated its borders and then labyrinthine structure.  The city-state lived in autonomy for many centuries watched over by the Lady, who encouraged research into the arcane, metallurgy and industry leading it to becoming one of the greatest institutes of war magic and artifice on the face of the continent - It was not unmatched, of course, but unchecked research with little to no boundaries on what would be considered safe or humane at times at times lead to sections of the city, rife with ghoulish nobles and raving scientists, to become incredibly unsafe to live in with either weird creatures roaming slums or entire sections of the city walled off, buried, forgotten and built atop of again to get rid of blankets of poisonous fog or libraries holding secrets Vessen deemed necessary for her people to forget.

Clanmil's structure when viewed from the air is three concentric circles, similar to a venn diagram with the giant's mansion growing from where the three intersect. When King Leo united Eboria twenty years prior Vessen invited him and an honour guard within the city's walls this alone was a great gesture given the introverted nature of the Fortress City and its ruler, but while she refused to bend the knee to him she requested a treaty be signed that made Clanmil officially part of the kingdom while retaining its autonomy and retain its laws in terms of advancement... with a little oversight into what could be useful for the monarch and those under his rule being permitted to be distributed as Leo saw fit. This she thought was better than her city being crushed under the heel of the unifier's army, now able to call upon all the other peoples of Eboria and the work she had seen her people achieve being destroyed or taken anyway. While she had every faith in her walls and warrior-mages, she had little doubt that sheer numbers would win any battle if her people were starved within the stronghold.

What are they like? Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?
Abigail is a daughter of Vessen. Not directly as she's not a half-giant or goliath, but rather a granddaughter with a few greats added in for good measure to the point where human is in the majority and there's very little of the Lady's blood remaining. This is simply a title of any of the descendents of the Lady of Steel who show a knack for innovation and gain her favour. She is the fourth of six siblings, her elders mostly having become Overseers under the Barons of Illumination, while her younger sister is honestly more a prodigy than Abi could ever hope to be and is currently under the Lady's direct tutelage.

She can come off as superior and haughty to those she feels intellectually higher than, often looking for an excuse to flaunt it, though becomes oddly quiet when a subject not part of her field of expertise comes up, as to not show her ignorance in it and make herself look foolish. As such she tends to be most quiet around wizards. She has a wicked temper regarding her height, especially when someone brings up the subject in tandem with her giant lineage.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers? How long have you been with the group?
When Abigail was 15 she was uprooted from Clanmil and installed alongside her elder brother into the court of King Leo, a part of the agreement between the King and the Lady to share resources and talent, and of course to act as a deterrent from either side going out of line of their agreement - family, no matter how distant, would still be on the line. As such Abi has been known to Leo for several years now, her constantly working on new trinkets giving birth to magical items that could serve well on a mission such as this, especially as one accidentally knocked a fully armoured palace guard through a wall during its testing stage. While not physically strong her mind is keen enough to make up for it, either enhancing the equipment of others or enhancing herself with that odd armour she's been tinkering with over the last year.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?
Abi feels a great deal of attraction to the princess, being her elder only by a scant few months and being of a similar physical strength, she would often dream of pinning the princess against the wall and embracing her, being involved with her in a dalliance or tryst... possibly putting her in a collar and leash and have Cliara sleep on the floor beside Abi's bed like the cute pet she's likely destined to be some day when she's eventually married off. Other than that? she believes her to be an easily swayed, cotton-headed dunce that needs someone vastly smarter than herself to take care of her decisions and steer her clear of danger.

What are your ons/offs? What are your character’s ons/offs?
(Working on this bit)

Also Abigail's also a same-age-as-the-Princess character, ooh.

We can Stan together. Also, you were the inspiration for those supposed raising of the bar. I just iterated.

A pervy priest could always do that. And I'm not certain that all those impressions will help make a better case for people. Might flesh out the character but it can be done on the 8th.

As I said. It was an act of good fun, and my greedy want to know more. I certainly wouldn't expect everyone to do it; I just crave drama, and a hint more knowledge about the fun suite of characters.

Also don't make a promise you can't keep, Priest~

A fair warning, but my original assumption was that you were narrating from your characters perspective. After all, we are deciding who our characters would like and care for -- so, really, no offense taken as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I admit... I like knowing what others think of my character. :-) I'll indulge in your curiosity since I'm much too hype for this RP, and I need stuff to busy myself. And, admittedly, need to familiarize myself with the characters so far a bit more beyond looking at just the archetypes.

Nuneyd's thoughts and feelings upon first meeting them after getting out of the pen', supposing king Leo would be so kind
Mortimer - "Gypsy or not, the Tieflings make for valuable assets -- both inside and outside of prison. Let's hope this one lives up to its reputation as the griffon-killer." {Amused by, but not very interested in, this tiefling. Should Mortimer indeed live up to his reputation, then certainly Nuneyd would at the very least respect him (on a base level) if nothing drives a wedge between the two by then.}
Victoria - "From humble beginnings much can grow. Not many can claim to have defeated a beholder -- fewer have the decency to admit their friends saved them in the process." {Given that Nuneyd is not much of a party-guy, the two of them will probably have very little in common at all. He'd find her useful for her many connections in taverns and in other places, however, and that would make her important to him and his quest of regaining freedom.}
Cedevax - "Moves like an uncivilized barbarian, talks like one too. But something seems uplifting and wise about this fellow, well beyond his years." {Someone to keep an eye on, and whose ideas and thoughts to take seriously. Cedevax may not betray his wisdom, but if Nuneyd were to ever learn of how Cedevax earned the trust of the king, Nuneyd would become quite convinced that Cedevax is far wiser than many ''civilized'' people.}
Tallia - "A dancer, on a mission to save the princess? Too good to be true." {Naturally, Nuneyd's absence from the world outside of prison has kept him out of the loop as far as the kings court is concerned -- he has no idea about Tallia or who she is, what role she serves, or whether she even works for the King. A dancer on this mission, however, seems rather useless, and so Nuneyd is of the opinion that there is probably something else going on to warrant her presence. He probably won't care to find out -- he simply seeks to escape his ill fortune at the hands of the king, and prying into business that's not his is no good way to accomplish that. Her magic does the rest of the job at ensuring he probably won't immediately like her too much.}
Evilin - "Finally, someone who sees the royal family for what they are." {A potential uneasy ally in the philosophical battle regarding king Leo's status as an invader. Younger, noble Nuneyd might have hated her for her rogueish ways, but he's come to appreciate rogues -- and their skill -- over time in prison. She'd be immediately respected, though her opinions wouldn't weigh on Nuneyd too much.}
Erkhardt - "The princess' lapdog here to oversee her training once more. Speaking any more about this man would be a waste of my breath." {It's not that he actively hates Erkhardt, more so than he actively hates what Erkhardt stands for and does. Supposedly, it might be possible for them to become friends -- good friends, even -- but one should take this in the same vein one might take the possibility that it might be the case the moon could fall on the earth tomorrow. Nuneyd would quite willingly embrace the problematic nature between Erkhardt and himself -- he who loves the royal family, and he who hates them.}
Baerdur - "The only thing bigger than this .. thing is the tales he tells. Fortune has it he has a good hint of how to tell a tale, but I could not bare to listen to this being for too long." {Dismissive, uninterested, considers Baerdur "a useful idiot," at first. Ofcourse, Nuneyd has no idea about Baerdur's importance, strength or skill. Once he sees this hulk of a satyr in action, he'll probably begrudgingly accept that there's some use in this satyr (or a lot), though his mannerisms in speaking will continue to irk Nuneyd forever. However, if Nuneyd could figure out how to point Baerdur in the right direction, he'd be quite happy to direct Baerdur's hand to hand combat skills.}
Lilianne - "Another princess. How great." {Dismissive and uninterested at first, the rest of their interactions will be dictated by how Lilianne interacts with Nuneyd when they must. Should she seek to ignore him as much as possible, then Nuneyd's not exactly going to chase her down just to tell her how little he cares for her. Should she be vocal about what she thinks about him, then she'd earn his respect but it'd probably not do too much good for their friendship. Nuneyd and Lilianne would probably be much like water and fire -- they're polar opposites on most matters related to nobility and royalty, it seems.}
Delona - "A dirty mage masquerading as a scholar. She knows nothing of the pain and hardships magic means to some people, parading it around like it were some sort of gift." {A natural rival. He'd respect her, in the sense that her personality and history are admirable, he just really really hates her stance on magic. And, well, she sort of strikes Nuneyd as someone who is arrogant -- two ego's clashing never ends well. Their interactions could be tamed, perhaps, but more than likely will be quite explosive.}
Jokull - "Something's fucky about this one." {Nuneyd is nowhere near learned enough to know anything about Jokull, his race, or what his presence here means, but he's wise enough to know that whatever the hell is going on, it's not exactly normal or right. His behaviour, too, is a little strange, but much like mentioned before, Nuneyd really has no interest in prying or even asking unless Jokull happens to know how to get rid of the magic inside of Nuneyd.}
Winona - "This one's what the princess should have been. Although, I suppose that'd have meant there'd be no quest for me to earn my freedom. I take it back." {He actually, sort of, probably would like Winona. Were the real princess more like her and less of a sheltered woman, he'd have perhaps even considered her a proper queen-to-be. Supposing that the 'psi' aspect of her is akin to magic, he'd be a little apprehensive of it.}
Nuneyd - "As long as I get mine." {This is me. I feel bad for myself, and in a weird fucked up way I feel sorry for the princess for having to go through this process to appease her parents.}
Beldon/Belle - "Great. This marks 2 lapdogs so far. I suppose a decoy is more useful than the others." {Since we're meant to fuck the princess to awaken her powers, does that mean to make the bit convincing we need to fuck the decoy, too? .. I guess there's tactical genius in there, somewhere, but I can't see it! In a weird way, Nuneyd would probably be impressed by Belle's ability to transform him/herself this much out of dedication to the job. But he'd probably also find it very amusing.}
Melanthe - "Filthy mage. Yet one more parading around like they're the Gods' greatest gift to the world, unaware of the torment magic is causing to people who've had no say in the matter." {It'd be unfair to say he hates her from the get go, but he certainly dislikes mages, and is rather prejudiced in that (which is weird since he's a sorcerer). His initial impression would probably not be very good, and prospects for reconciliation would be slim, though never say never.}
Arg'hash - "This one toys with forces he does not understand and claims it culture and heritage. The folly of youth, may we call it?" {As a youngin, Nuneyd might have disliked him for his lack of civilization - that prejudice has leaked out of Nuneyd ever since then. Now, he just dislikes his for his shamanistic ways. Of course, the irony is that Arg'hash, despite being only 19, probably understands magic better than Nuneyd does.}
Carlness - "I suppose the party wouldn't be complete without someone who's had a knock in the head a bit too hard. I suppose it's only uphill from here." {Carlness is much too strange for Nuneyd to comprehend, and he isn't learned enough to understand the gravity of what Carlness speaks of. Nuneyd is convinced that Carlness is messing with forces he doesn't comprehend just like Nuneyd thinks the same of many others, and frankly, he believes Carlness might be the worst out of all of them. I mean, convening with strange beings beyond our realm? That is like asking for something bad to happen. The fact they are both stubborn doesn't do much to mend his opinion of the man.}
Abigail - "This one knows many things, and knows the most important thing of all; to not speak in the presence of those who know many things." {Creating magical items is supposedly not as bad as using it in the same way a mage does. He's still apprehensive of her, but the fact she knows when to shut up is a positive to Nuneyd, who respects this quality greatly. On the other hand, were Abigail to go piping off at him, he'd probably not enjoy that very much, given that he understands what that'd mean about her impression of him. Given that Nuneyd is not the most learned of magic users, her impression would not necessarily be wrong though.}

My writing here has made me come to the uncomfortable conclusion that Nuneyd will probably not get along with anyone else at all, except for, somehow, the princess. I didn't really realize this when I first started writing Nuneyd but the fact that she's also sort of being forced to become magical just like he was is.. an uncomfortable similarity between the two that he would probably not realize until he sees what she's being put through. And he'd probably hate it. Pink wanted drama, I guess this counts?

Also, I'm a little worried some might take offence at the way I've written it. I'm just trying to convey how Nuneyd would feel about them -- I'm actually really impressed with everyone's characters especially on rereading them and it's making me dread the competition for the coveted slots. :-(

Uh-oh... ^-^

I really am liking reading the in-character takes you guys are doing! And will do a proper set myself when I'm off work, aaa. I really don't think I'd be worried at all about the 'offensiveness' of the character voicing though, I mean obviously it doesn't reflect the actual player's opinions! Given the nature of this RP it was inevitable a lot of character voices would have a good degree of self-important jackassery, wasn't it? It'll also make for a host of potential interesting dynamics, the iterations of groups that can split the differences between the more relaxed/relatively nicer folk and the ones more made of ego than actual flesh.

TBH there needs to be an IC spin off where whichever characters don't make it in shit talk whoever did make it in, complaining 'I would have done that better' from the sidelines as news makes it back of the main adventuring groups' shenanigans.

Gremgoblin

I'm just trying to not offend anyone, haha. I'm already plenty self conscious about mine, and I've not even really completed him to a cohesive concept yet. I'd hate to make anyone else self-conscious. Your words earlier about him fulfilling a purpose were very uplifting, however, so thank you. :-)

Edited my original into involving the thoughts about other chars posted so far :). Gremgoblin; you may want perhaps edit Nuneyd's opinion on Baerdur after reading mine as Baerdur was part of king's army and he is loyal to the king so they likely fought different sides (and probably Baerdur knocked Nuneyd out as he viewed him as a mere drunkard scout than the actual monk threat who can flurry of blows with satyr headbanging and stun him senseless in the process). But plus side, before the 'betray king' part he tried to help him lift off hatred from his own magic and just accept it as a natural part of him as his cock is.

Gremgoblin

Nuneyd never actually fought the king, he fought for the king! He just tried to desert the army near the end of the war to go home/somewhere else. But I'll edit in the bit of him trying to help him -- although I should add it probably didn't work, since Nuneyd is as stubborn as a bull. I'm sure a Satyr can relate. Right? .. right...?

Well, satyrs case if someone is stubborn we bang heads until other yields. Humans just don't have skulls for said discussion. So your case was not betrayal and more desertion attempt? My bad. Your char story just did not clearly state it :P. I will edit mine now to reflect that he did not fight/rebel but desertion.

Gremgoblin

I think Nunyed would politely bow out of that discussion then. :-) You're right, he's not got the skull for it but I think he's smart enough to realize that too. :P I'll try and clarify things regarding that then!

Who is your character?
Ashivon (formerly known as "Bael")
Not 100% set on class, I'm flexible based on the needs of the group if X gets picked. Top picks right now would be a Hexadin multiclass or a Rogue/Paladin multiclass, but the concept could also work for a pure Warlock, pure Rogue, or pure Monk.

Potential Character Art

Where are they from?
A tiefling child was stolen from the nomadic tieflings of Eobaria and raised in a seemingly sleepy seaside town along the eastern shores of Eobaria. The innocuous community of Salvation harbored a dark secret, a cult led by the man the tiefling child only ever knew as "Father". It was Father who raised the tiefling boy, naming him "Bael" – a word branding the tiefling child as wicked. Father preached to his cult that by following his teachings, they were better, they were superior to their fellows. Ashivon was consigned to the role of "Sin Eater". Because he was a tiefling, Father told both Bael and his followers, Bael was born damned. So that he and his followers would not have to stain their hands with blood, so they could maintain the illusion of their superiority, Bael was raised to bear the weight of those sins, to be a killer of those who defied Father, to hunt and murder those who tried to flee from Salvation.

What are they like?
Still waters run deep. While Ashivon is, by nature, a passionate soul, he does not wear these feelings on his sleeve. What defines Ashivon perhaps more than anything is how torn he feels. While he is driven to atone for the blood on his hands, he struggles to reconcile this with the the fact that his skillset forces him to resort to bloodshed in pursuit of that atonement.

Ashivon has a strong inherent sense of right and wrong, strong enough that even without any external moral framework given to him, he recognized Father's orders to kill an innocent child as wrong. He fights fiercely to prove that Father was wrong about him. This does not mean, however, that he does not have negative emotions, and, in fact, lacking a healthy way to process these, he sublimates his bloodthirsty and sadistic impulses into his work, and the love he holds for Queen Eriphise into loyalty and zealous devotion to her and her cause.

Having led an extremely sheltered childhood, Ashivon can sometimes find elements of wonder in things that to others would be small, everyday things.

While Ashivon would likely have quite an affinity for the teachings of A'nora, his upbringing makes him extremely skeptical of organized religion and so-called divinities, and would be extremely slow to warm up to the idea of ever being a part of an organized religion again.

Do they have friends, family, relatives, connections?
Ashivon has blood relatives out in the world somewhere... but even if they were to meet, has no way of recognizing them as his kin, having been taken from them at such a young age. The man he knew as Father, however, is out in the world somewhere, and when Queen Eriphise does not have need of his services, he devotes himself to the pursuit of Father, hoping to keep others from falling victim to the same cult he himself was raised in.

While he does not have friends yet, he is, at least, friendly with Lionel and Lucian, is devotedly loyal to Queen Eriphise, and to a lesser extent King Leo, and has something of a soft spot for Princess Cliara and her handmaiden.

Why has King Leo decided to trust them enough to hire you for his elite group of adventurers?
When a local magistrate began to look more closely into the matter of Salvation and Father's following, Father had the magistrate's daughter kidnapped. However, seeing the frightened, innocent soul of the magistrate's child, Bael knew that he could not bring himself to murder her, even if Father told him it was for the sake of Salvation, for the common good. Enraged, Father beat Bael within an inch of the tiefling's life, and was only stopped from murdering Bael when Lionel and Lucian, having fought past the rest of Father's cultists, arrived intent on rescuing the magistrate's daughter. Father fled into the night, and Lionel and Lucian took Bael before the magistrate for judgement. Queen Eriphise was unexpectedly present, and it was she who extended Bael leniency in exchange for service as her personal agent, expressing her belief that his refusal of his Father's demands showed he could be more than the damned wretch his Father raised him to be. She offered him a chance to atone for the blood he'd shed so the members of Father's cult could keep their hands clean. When Bael accepted, she bestowed on him a new name: Ashivon. He has executed her wishes unfailingly and loyally ever since.

How long have you been with the group?
Ashivon is not a constant member of the group, but rather one that joins on assignments as the Queen dictates, something like a guest party member. His first assignment with the group was the better part of a decade ago.

What is your preconception of Princess Cliara?
Ashivon's feelings on the subject of the Princess are more complicated than he is willing to admit to himself. While his contact with Princess Cliara has never been especially frequent, the effervescent princess had the effect of being able to draw the taciturn tiefling into conversation. Perhaps because her own upbringing had, in a way, been nearly as sheltered as his own, she expressed a particular fascination in the details Ashivon would share of his adventures that others, both those listening to him and those telling stories to her, would have taken for granted. He is fond of her, and looks forward to their talks, and those who see them engaged in conversation may well suspect him of being in love with her, even if Ashivon himself would not agree with their assessment... they're closer to the mark than he's ready to admit to himself.

What far fewer onlookers would suspect is that, deep down, Ashivon also harbors bitterness and resentment towards Cliara for the privilege of her upbringing. Comparing the childhood she was blessed with, and the childhood he endured, a part of him can't help but question why she deserved the childhood she was given – can't help but question why he deserved the childhood he endured.

I'll be sure to get that "What my character thinks of everyone else" form filled out Thursday. I really enjoyed reading about what all everyone's characters think of each other. That was a great idea to use Princess Buggy's idea Pink Professional. Also it was a deep sea beholder.  :P
That bit is actually a reference to something another character of mine did at level 5 and Zaer's character helped to pull my unconscious character out of it's collapsing lair. Psychic damage is a bitch to a boobarian.
