The actual mechanic in their 'performance enhancing' capability (according to 'Local Sports Expert') is that they greatly speed up the recovery time - so a wrestler, body builder, or other athlete can train to the point of damaging the muscle and then the steroids prompt the recovery and regrowth of muscle cells.  The side effects (including 'testicular atrophy') aren't the sort of thing that you want to screw around with in the absence of a reputable physician's care.

So... yeah, TL:DR steroids do impact beneficially on COVID-19 patients. They impact beneficially in quite a number of medical ways in other circumstances but have got themselves a bad rap through athletic abuse and those crazy "man mountain" body builders. But what they basically do is empower the body's inbuilt defence systems so they may well be beneficial against a number of medical conditions.

I haven't dipped into the medical discussion about this but it strikes me that this is a side-plot about the "only 6%" bullshit that's surfaced in the pro-Trump camp recently. What the steroids may be doing is "bolstering up" the body's weakened defences in people who are suffering existing conditions and that means their natural defence capability is enhanced. Where this impacts the "only 6%" discussion is that, of course COVID-19 on its own within a 100% healthy body is not fatal and isn't, apparently even dangerous - witness the number of people who are young and/or fit and healthy who have survived it or even not known they were infected. COVID-19 attacks the body's systems and if you are already ill and your immunity is degraded because of weakened heart, lung capacity or other factors, then it has the ability to cause a lot of trouble, in some cases being fatal.

I know right? He's a complete natural about using double standards - and so are many of his fans. 

Rittenhouse's trial will no doubt become a tv and media saga. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump or someone close to him helps raise money for hos defense or bail - or pays for them outright. It will be like the Iran-Contras hearings with Oliver North - and with a ton of social media and tv pundit commentary about it. 

In other news, CDC are now projecting that by December the US could have 3.000 corona deaths per day. That's a 9/11 every day, dammit!

I am keen to watch the Rittenhouse trial. In the UK here I'm bound to miss some so if the good citizens of the US who are members here could keep us updated on it that would be appreciated. My understanding is that $200,000 has already been raised via a Rittenhouse Defence Fund (or something of that ilk) set up by some right wing social media types. Even so given how many felonies Rittenhouse was committing I can't see anything but a life behind bars for him.

What I do wish to see under scrutiny in the case is the behaviour of the Kenosha police department. Its time their double standards were addressed. Look at how they are reported to have behaved towards Reinoehl compared to how they allegedly acted towards Rittenhouse.

And now Reinoehl is "conveniently" unable to say more about what happened with Danielson.

Blake crippled. Huber, Rosenbaum, Danielson and Reinoehl dead. Grosskreutz injured. How many more?

Well he was banned from the USA swimming team, is a tier 3 sex offender, and works a 12 dollar an hour job while living at home with his folks. He, in a lot of ways, might have been better going to prison for the 9 year sentence. He’d be up for parole, though still a tier 3 sex offender, and likely not drawing any where close to the scrutiny he is now.

Now, it might sound like he’s bad off in what I just said but he isn’t. He got away with a crime that makes me grit my teeth 4 years later. I have zero sympathy for the judge, who was recalled and fired from another position as girls tennis coach. I’d never had hired a man with so little common sense to ignore prosecution requests. (I thought their recommendation was a bit light at 9 years).

Giving I read of another attempt at assault prior to the one he was caught for, I imagine it’s a matter of time till he does it again, given there was NO requirement for therapy or counseling. My worry is that he might go farther next time.
