Sure seems like it's easier to stop a bad guy with a gun when the gun in question is a shotgun and a pistol, rather than an AR-15 with a bump stock.

Not even capable of sticking around long enough to contribute to further investigations into his associates and at least help to get a few more pieces of human refuse like himself off the (Wall) streets. I'm not sure what his financial affairs were like once he was convicted but I don't see him having donated 100% of it to charities dedicated to helping those that were victimized in the way he was guilty of exploiting, or at least giving back those ill-gotten tax cut dollars. Truly sickening. If I were a more conspiratorial sort I'd wonder whether it was faked and someone smuggled him out of the country to live out the rest of his days in secret and luxury without anyone being any the wiser. It's just so hard to accept that justice is actually finally starting to be served after so much history spent mired in this sort of corrupt cesspool of 'whoever has the gold makes the rules' injustice.

Update on the man in Las Vegas who had bomb materials and was planning to attack synagogues and gay bars. Trump's retweeting yesterday of plain allegations that the Clintons had a guiding hand in killing Jeffrey Epstein is a dizzying new example of his habit of throwing around allegations of very serious crimes and frauds, supposedly commmitted by his opponents, without the shadow of evidence. Content Warning for Suicide, I go into detail about suicidal ideation and the mentality of it, I don't draw on my personal experience but focus on it from a healthcare perspective.

Most conspiracy theories are also rooted in real problems that are completely misunderstood. It is possible there was a conspiracy to kill Epstein to shut him up, but also our prison systems are completely fucked and plenty of prisoners kill themselves and are killed by other inmates or are killed by guards and it is a regular problem. A lot die of disease, just in general lack of healthcare. Epstein's case sounds fishy if one doesn't understand this sort of thing is a common occurrence in US prisons. Also typically people actually planning to go through with suicide are good at convincing people they are fine, it is people who want help and who want to live that tell others they're planning to kill themselves typically since it is a cry for help. People who are very certain don't as often tell others since others will try to stop them. It is hard to recognize people who are planning to kill themselves and want no one to know, and some are incredibly hard to prevent(Like one biting off their own tongue). Unless one can recognize signs(Like pushing everyone away to make it easier in the suicidal person's mind for others when they die), which again people in our prisons are often very under trained and mental health care in our country is shit, there are lots of very simple and common explanations for what happened.

This is in part why get into arguments with my conservative family members on "wasting tax payer money" on other such things regarding prisons and our criminal justice system in general. Well I'm a prison abolitionist, so I do think we are wasting money on the prison system. Though the idea is to replace it with a system for rehabilitation to get rid of prisons. Which it wouldn't be a waste to spend money on that system.

The prison system is abhorrent. I don't think most Americans understand how devastating they are (and many coming don't give a shit).

That said, Epstein was the most high profile prisoner in the American justice system since probably Timothy McVeigh. Epstein couldn't have killed himself unless they let him. Else Chapo was at the same facility. You think they'd ever, in a million years, let him kill himself?

There is no good reason not to question what happened. Trying to soft pedal the abuses of this administration, the head of the DOJ William Barr, who has already committed numerous 'irregularities' to protect Trump, and Trump himself, who among other things installed as Secretary of Labor the nobody who previously spiked the prosecution into Epstein's sex trafficking.

It's astonishing that people aren't willing to accept the possibility that, yes, our country is indeed this corrupt. Hint: yes, it is this corrupt.

If that is directed at me(You might be speaking more so in general, so I'm responding just in case it is expecting  response), I just spoke about how it is a possibility. I've spoken at length about how deeply corrupt our entire judicial, legislative, and executive branches are, how inherently broken our systems are. I've done this regularly throughout many threads, while posting various sources and deep details and examinations of legal documents, of historical precedence, and more. I simply think we should not spread possibly false information or jump to tons of conclusions especially so rapidly. My explanation also does not exonerate the people involved, the people at that prison and in charge of it, and who control the system it runs upon, are at fault.

Also it is ludicrous in my opinion to state he could not have killed himself. You can kill yourself in a straight jacket. Unless you are under 24/7 surveillance, completely bound, being fed through a tube, with your jaw restrained, completely isolated from all people, you can kill yourself.

It's notable that Epstein had attempted once already - and I'm hearing now about other instances at the MCC that boggle anyone's definition of 'security'.   Joshua Schulte of Wikileaks actually managed to leak new information from a highly encrypted device - while in his cell.

Epstein was after a time taken off suicide watch. Currently Attorney General Barr is saying that it seems fishy and that he finds the events suspicious. Seemingly feeding into Trump's sharing of claims that Bill Clinton did it somehow.

Also do you have a source for the Rikers move? I'm not finding anything through a google search other than a quote saying "I thought there was no place worse than Rikers" in regards to the jail Epstein was in.

For some information on prison conditions and why they tend to be so bad, the leadership of many prisons, the system, who is in charge, this article does a decent job. I wonder if it'd be good to make a separate thread for the prison system or Jeffrey Epstein since this has been pretty focused rather than general news.
