Welp at least it will give us some schadenfreude if after he is president he gets prosecuted for any of the horrible things he's done and gets thrown in jail.

If that does happen (first US president ever to be thrown in jail after his term!) I would love to see some of his amassed wealth being confiscated, too. That would be morally just right (not sure about the legal aspects though)... :P

Taking the wealthy away from horrible people who built their legacy upon stealing from others and redistributing it to those in need? Why, you're after my own heart.

Though it'd probably just go to the government, if they managed to find where enough of the money came from and the illegal practices he used to obtain it.

Your link is broken, but yeah, judging by what I can see of the URL, Trump has time and time again refused to visit troops who are in foreign countries fighting. He probably is way too afraid to.

Yep, CNN made the same point in passing yesterday. Trump is either uncomfortable with meeting soldiers - even buried soldiers at military cemeteries - or he simply sees it as a second-rate part of the package of presidential habits (I wanted to write duties, but the idea of duties to serve by as part of a high office is foreign to Trump anyway). :(

Maybe it's just because soldiers are too usually disciplined to scream and cheer like his usual rallies? He's very much dependent on the dopamine hit of being adored by the masses, so speaking to them has little attraction to him.

Tolvo

Well there are times when soldiers do that, we've seen it at other times when presidents visit troops. And the military does generally support Trump. I think it is more that it isn't important to him or he's worried about security.

A little of column A an a little of B. There are a LOT of folk in the Military who are affected by the President’s actions. Just because the fact that your average service member is a bit more conservative than most doesn’t mean they like some of his actions. A good portion of the guys who I worked with were 1st or 2nd generation Americans. That makes things the President says stand out to them.

I think he’s not certain that someone in uniform might decide that he is a problem.

Tolvo

There are many in the military who don't like him yes, but in general soldiers in the US military support their president especially conservative ones pretty regardless unless they have a catastrophic fuck up that costs a lot of military lives. And while Trump has certainly gotten a lot of soldiers killed, it hasn't been highlighted as much and hasn't been severe enough to draw the ire of all in the service.

So since we were talking about it, Trump has listened to the criticism. To show he supports the troops, he'll be doing a teleconference to them for Thanksgiving from his golf course on Thanksgiving while Trump orders them to stay at the border. This will certainly show his critics what for and that he is willing to visit the troops at war.

Don’t know about that..like I said when I served I was an aberration . My family, not including the native Americans, have been in the US for like 270 years. Most of the guys in my shop were 1st to 3rd generation Americans, three of my classmates in A school were refugees or Americans who grew up in dangerous regions like Somalia, and such.  Three guys I know in my first squadron’s jet shop were children of illegal immigrants

The officers might be conservative but the average grunt isn’t as set and staid as such.  Not to mention I know of several NCOs and a handful of officers who don’t want Pense to take office as President.  One of the first things that would vanish would be ‘don’t ask don’t tell’.

Several of them helped me over time when I honestly needed a hand. The 1st class, who is now a master chief, who told me point blank my rep in the squadron was shit. She ‘fixed me’ to the point I was the major qualification trainer for my shop. Of the junior Po, who is now a LT commander, who turned me in for a mistake that could have killed people. It killed my career but it got me treatment for bipolar that I needed.

Tolvo

Hmm, from what I've read when they've checked and based on what the troops generally openly support it seems to lean conservative, but perhaps those who don't just can't be as vocal which would make sense given the atmosphere. It might depend on the station and where the recruits are coming from as well, since a lot of people who serve without a draft in effect come from usually more conservative military families. But also a lot of people do join to get out of their situation aside from just those who serve based on their beliefs.

Sorry for the double post, but it might be missed in all the enjoying Thanksgiving with your our families, because Trump has now floated the idea that he might shut down the border(Likely he means Southern Border, but it is actually unclear) completely. No entry to the USA, no one gets in, and seemingly he might want to stop trade with Mexico?

He just signed that giant sweeping NAFTA replacement. If he tries to cut all trade with Mexico now, his own party will crucify him. The question is if he knows it or not.

Maybe he meant the Canadian border. They're awfully suspicious looming up there, being all super-polite with their moose and poutine...

Tolvo

No he specifically said he didn't want Mexico to be allowed to sell cars into the USA as an example. Maybe he just wants all Mexican products to be banned from entry but we can sell our stuff to them. Which I'm sure they'd be very happy about.

Although his party and him are actually considering not allowing that deal Trump got offered, because Canada included LGBT protections in the deal for workers. So they are really pissed about that. So Trump and his party may completely harpoon the deal if Canada doesn't cave on that.

The man is a looney... :D Yeah, heard about his threat/boast to shut the southern border completely for inbound traffic. If he has any intention of keeping up trade with Mexico, he'd better rethink this move listen to someone wiser than himself.

Also, one little typo and here we go...

Trump is selling America to the highest bidder, says Leon Panetta (ex-CIA chief). And selling out American ethical and political values, of course.  :-(

Fun fact I have relatives who worked for Capone. Not in any big capacity just very small time stuff.

QuoteWhen asked what he is “most thankful for” by a reporter at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida, Trump responded: “For having a great family and for having made a tremendous difference in this country.”

He then doubled down on patting himself on the back, saying, “I made a tremendous difference in the country. This country is so much stronger now than it was when I took office that you wouldn’t believe it. I mean, you see it, but so much stronger that people can’t even believe it.”

But of course he is. I am not even surprised.

He has that habit of repeating himself two or three times. It's a rather distinctive mannerism, I wonder how long he's been speaking like that and if it's a deliberate affectation to 'sell' his words via repetition or something else.
