Used to live there for a majority of my life until a year ago so I deeply understand this sentiment. It pains me to think I cannot vote there anymore because I am of two minds on Dr Oz.

Part of me hopes he learned a good lesson wheb he was audited for his antics and pandering on his television show but my hunch is he'll hinder the ability to stop the C-19 mutations rather than help quash them if voted in. Especially if he is in favor of "giving freedom back". I'd have to see what his stance on Covid-19 was and if he has vouched for stricter protections rather than lighter practices.

I was a little surprised because I watched his show, and he would have medical experts come on and talk.  They talked about the benefits of masks, and the dangers of mutations, and all that.  He was pro vaccine for the most part.  He has promoted natural medicines, and a lot of people are into that.  I am a little bit.  I'll drink mint tea for a stomach ache, and go see a doctor for an infection.  But when I saw that ad....  I'm wondering if he's saying those things because he knows that's what the people of this state want to hear.  I have a feeling we're going to find out.  And of course his show is no longer airing here at least.  I had to find another show to fill that time slot.

Why I hate my state (planning to charge a tax by the mile driven) https://dahle.cssrc.us/content/give-them-inch-they-take-mile-and-tax-it

How would you even enforce this? Different vehicles get different mileage, so you can't just stick it on the pump price.

They can do it by odometer reading when you get your smog check or registration renewal.

Okay, that makes more sense. So it's just an extra fee for registration renewal.

In essence, but it will hurt those that can least afford it. Most are struggling just paying over $5 a gallon to get to work. They are trying to force minimum wage workers to buy $50K+ electric cars. It's insane.

The Oni-family has you covered, at least.  I didn't have to do more than mention his candidacy.

Yeah, that's nuts. I didn't mean to imply it was minor by saying 'just' there...I've already heard so much about California's absurd cost of living and the ludicrous commutes people have to endure to work in a city. Considering how spotty California's electrical grid is with all those fires raging all the time, I'd be skeptical of an electric vehicle even if it wasn't so pricey.

Yup, you get it. Biggest problem is we are stuck here until we die. They have us in a Catch 22.

I think this is in large part the result of spastic "SOmEtHing MusT BE dONE!" thinking paired with poor foresight, rushed legislation, and a distinct *lack* of care for consequences for the dirty poors.

Lived in CA for many years. Lovely state. When it isn't all on fire.

Chechenian murdered in Berlin by Russian... truly a globalized world that we're living in >:)!

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/german-court-accuses-russia-state-terrorism-over-2019-berlin-park-n1286041

Actually, Chechen activists are having a higher than average likelihood of getting murdered. I doubt anyone wonders why, though 8-)!

Dictator DeSantis is at it again :/

This is getting scary.  When Trump was compared to Hitler people were saying that was a huge overreach and overreaction.  He may not be in office anymore, but everything he set up while in office is allowing everything this country used to stand for to fall bit by bit.  People have posed the question of how the entire country of Germany, full of mostly decent people allowed the Nazi's to take over like they did.  This is it, people.  One small thing leads to another small thing, and then another. You blink and don't know what the fuck hit you.

Meanwhile in Poland - the PiS government is at their freedom-of-press crushing tricks again!

Remember that bill from a few months ago that was aimed at dismantling the biggest independent Polish news station? Without any warning, PiS pulled it out of the parliamentary freezer. And, in about 2 hours, breaking the usual parliamentary procedures, voted it through:

https://notesfrompoland.com/2021/12/17/polish-parliament-unexpectedly-passes-bill-forcing-sale-of-us-owned-tv-network/

If the Polish president doesn't veto it, the bill will become a law...

The US officials (who are interested in the matter, as TVN is owned by Discovery) have already expressed their "disappointment" regarding this new development... It seems like Poland might be heading toward a diplomatic crisis with the States.

Freedom of press aside - is our government nuts??? We have a crisis at the Belarusian border. There are warnings of possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. And, at the time like this, the PiS people choose to drive a wedge between Poland and the US... the biggest security measure Poland has against any threat from Belarus or Russia???

... I have no words. Poland is being run by madmen, people...

Chulanowa

In fairness, since Discovery Inc is =https://www.nbcnews.com/media/discovery-warnermedia-merge-creating-one-largest-us-media-companies-rcna940being merged with WarnerMedia to become a subsidiary under AT&T, and how AT&T has been behind the creation of propaganda networks like One America News, I'm not sure that this is really a "freedom of press" issue.

It's more like an underscore to the fact that the "free press" is largely an extinct concept in the modern world, with a tiny handful of state-sized companies owning all of it, except for a smattering of state-owned outlets.

Beorning

Oh, believe me, in Poland it *is* a free-press issue. TVN might be owned by Discovery, but they *are* the largest source of independent news here.

QuotePeople who wear “anti-5G” pendants to “protect” themselves from radio frequencies emitted by phone masts have been told by the Dutch nuclear authority that their necklaces are dangerously radioactive.
Sign up for our weekly technology newsletter, TechScape.

Owners of “quantum pendants” and other “negative ion” jewellery have been advised to store them away, as they have been found to continuously emit ionising radiation.

The product alert was issued by the Dutch authority for nuclear safety and radiation protection (ANVS) in relation to 10 products.

Oh noes.. 5g radiation is dangerous! *rabble rabble* Lets put on this radioactive pendant, that will save me.

These people.. *facepalms* Granted the radiation level isn't THAT high but if you wear it all the time, as I am sure these people do...

Ionizing anything seems to be in vogue ;D!

I don't think I've mentioned it, but the locals who have, ahem, vaguely similar concerns, are now able to buy "chip-neutralizing" ionizing medical band-aids that they just have to put over the place where they believe the chips* are located ;D!

Those might well be perfectly safe, too. What are the odds of those being counterfeit, I wonder >:)?
But hey, if they insist on being such good marks... C:)

*The ones supposedly contained in the vaccines 8-).

Octopus-neutralizing gadgets. Now there's an idea for a business, hmmmm.

You know, it was right before I got my booster that I heard the vaccines make spoons stick to you.  I tried it after the booster.  Didn't work.  Maybe because it was only a half dose?  Of course it was the same arm as the first two.  Maybe it wears off?  What other explanation could there be for the spoon not sticking to me?

It didn't work for me, either. I'd ask for my money back, but seeing as I haven't paid anything, I don't stand to gain much even if it's approved... 8-)
