As far as I can recall he has been calling the Mueller investigation treason since around day one. Same for calling it the greatest witch hunt in history, etc. Remember it wasn't until 2018 when riot charges were finally dropped against people arrested for protesting Trump's inauguration. Which also included raiding houses and warrants to web hosts used by protesters. Trump has been an open fascist who sees and dissent from him as treason. He has called news agencies treasonous for reporting on him, he called Google treasonous, the FBI as a whole under Obama, Democrats as a whole, he calls nearly anyone against him treasonous. Hell he has called people who weren't against him treasonous.

Okay, then I'd be one of them traitors too. :)

Well technically that's impossible since you aren't American. Though that probably would not stop him from calling someone a traitor.

TheGlyphstone

Louise is definitely Un-American though, which he does consider treasonous.

So now Trump has openly claimed Al Shaprton "Hates whites and cops." It's just getting worse and worse. A part of me is fearful we are heading possibly to armed conflict, not specifically because of these statements. More so because of how Trump has consolidated power and will not follow the justice system or legislative branch and is using executive power to circumvent all other branches of the government amidst getting everyone else so violent and polarized. Essentially we are getting closer to a point where if he does not step down when asked essentially a military coup would be the only option. People like to think "Well that would never happen here" but as someone who avidly studies history, when people in power simply do not follow any of the system in place and consolidate a massive amount of power that overtakes the power of other branches of the government civil war is a common result. That and or genocide and establishing martial law and an authoritarian state. This is on top of now using US soldiers now to watch people at concentration camps for immigrants which are having shown to hold more and more US citizens as time goes on, I do not like fear mongering but this is a very scary point in history with the uncertainty about what will be done if anything and how it will be done.

Trump is doubling down on his doubling down on his doubling down on being a racist for electoral advantage.

Kevin Kruse, history professor at Princeton, has published an editorial comparing Donald Trump to George Wallace.

And Trump is worse.

While Wallace 'denounced broad categories of generic enemies — “agitators,” “anarchists” and “communists” — he rarely went after an individual by name.'

This is just grotesque:

Just before signing the 9/11 victims compensation bill, Trump jokes with the first responders and their families that the stage may not hold all of them but that if it collapses they "are not falling very far" pic.twitter.com/h9qY3C7iHK

He also claimed he was "kinda a first responder" during 9/11.

Note, there is no evidence Trump actually went down to help anyone during the events of 9/11 and famously remarked about how thanks to it now Trump Tower was the tallest building in New York.

If you listen to the video, his diction is continuing to slip.  He refers to 'bar-partisan', and later on to 'nine-elective'.

I'm unsure if it's exactly his speaking or if it's that he's having a harder time reading the teleprompter and just isn't paying attention. He pretty often just has no idea what he is saying and is reading which is really apparent whenever he has to ad lib or can't read a word.

Kitteredge

I just think he doesn't give a shit. This is why he drops these off-color, unbelievable jokes. He's just a razzmatazz guy, a game show host. Some are saying his mind is slipping, but it's never been there. He's just a sub-mediocrity forced to talk about shit beyond his knowledge or attention and he flubs up because it's beneath him.

Fixed it.

This could go in the what's in the news thread but figured I would throw it here since it is the idiot's plan.

That overhaul that the idiot wants to food stamps?  Yeah, no one bothered to tell us that it would render 500,000 kids off the free lunch program.  I swear I feel like the idiot just wants all the poor to die.

Al Sharpton has been unapologeticly anti-Semitic, such as during the 90s when he said "If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house." This was in regards to the Crown Heights neighborhood where a Jewish man accidentally ran over and killed a black boy, which ended up causing several incidents of violence. To my knowledge, he's never tried to make up for this.

Sharpton is hardly an ideal man to champion inclusiveness, although in comparison to the hatred of Trump he is far less of a danger; but he's not someone who in my opinion deserves defending.

In regards to the rise of authoritarianism, a YouTuber by the name of Three Arrows made a video discussing how otherwise ordinary people can endorse bigotry and hatred, even as removed actors.

Tolvo

I'm not defending Al Sharpton. I do not like Al Sharpton. What Trump said is clearly unacceptable and is putting a target on someone and is a part of him targeting people of color especially black people. It is not alright to target someone on a racial basis even if the person has done bad things. Similarly I will point out transphobic hatred of Caitlyn Jenner despite hating her and viewing her as uncaring towards other trans people and openly homophobic. Ironically Trump had a good target in Al Sharpton and still missed valid criticisms he could be making that he falsely lobbied against others.

https://oversight.house.gov/sites/democrats.oversight.house.gov/files/Trump%20Saudi%20Nuclear%20Report%20July%202019%20-%20Appendix%20A.pdf

So Tom Barrack who was Donald Trump's inauguration chairmen, with help from Manafort, Jared Kushner, Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus, Gary Cohn, Rick Gates, while working with Trump and influencing his policies to help him profit, was working to make deals with Saudi Arabian princes to sell and bring nuclear power from the USA to Saudi Arabia. This included circulating Trump's planned speeches with Saudi Arabian representatives before they happen to ensure they do not threaten their relationship. Many have feared this could lead to them re-purposing the materials and resources sent to Saudi Arabia to develop nuclear weapons. The House Oversight Committee has been pouring over tens of thousands of documents from Trump officials and American companies creating literal mounds of evidence though they do not show if Trump directly ordered anything. However documents do show Trump was completely aware of this.

Oniya

*adds 'collaborated with foreign governments' onto the list again*

By the way - Trump's latest target from his Twitter Pulpit, Elijah Cummings, happens to be on the House Oversight Committee.  The timing of Trump's recent burst of racism (referring to B'more as 'infested') couldn't be more suspicious.

Essentially any investigation is enough to sink him if we didn't have Republicans stonewalling efforts to do any oversight of this administration. I can only imagine still how Trump would be ruined for life if even a year of his taxes were investigated.

He has until November of this year to get them submitted.  Any candidate wanting to be on the ballot in CA has to provide this. Although it would keep a candidate off the March primary ballot, the new law does not appear to block a candidate who refuses to disclose the information from appearing on the November 2020 statewide ballot.

Only for California, though? That won't help much I expect, doesn't California lean heavily left anyway? It should be a nationwide thing anyway. Let the Republicans scramble to find someone with half the street cred that still appeases Trump's base.

All they need is to get it blocked by a sympathetic judge once, and then it can't go into effect until it works its way through the appeals process which will take months.
