Not with that attitude.

Im gonna go and show as much love and kidness as I can, and I will fight whatever injustices I see and protest all I can.

Its al I can do.  And im gonna do it.

And go to jail. Trump has spoken at length about jailing people who speak out against him. Showing love and kindness to people who have categorically rejected it is pointless at best. America wants these injustices. It believes them to be right.

Not stupid so much as gullible.
I admit that I am a bit cranky right now, as it is 6:30am and this damn election (which isn't even in my counry) has kept me up most of the night, but I stand by my point about stupidity. I don't think you will find any other "first world" country where so many people reject facts. Climate change? a hoax! Evolution? Not proven! The Ebola scare? The list goes on and on.

That's not gullible. That's a willful disregard for the most basic facts, elevating belief to the level of fact. That's not people being conned somehow into believing something they shouldn't. It's people not wanting to look at the most basic facts.

The senate is going to be tight. 48 to 45 with two independents. If the dems or independents take 3 of those seats, they may be able to halt some of the pain.

Not stupid so much as gullible. As ReijiTabbito has pointed out, there's a large groundswell of people who are genuinely concerned and seeing their entire life basically crumble - Trump's slick showmanship seduced them into thinking he was their 'champion'. Those farmers and factory workers are the silent majority of Trump voters, while the racists and assholes make all the noise.

And Hillary basically hit all the possible buttons she could to alienate moderates.

Reiji's Rule of Media Consumption:  Assume the people you're hearing about on the news are the exception and not the rule.

Michael Moore gave a talk to a crowd about this day.  He pointed out that there are scores of the ex-middle class who lost their jobs when they were moved overseas in the name of free trade, who have been foreclosed on, their car repoed, the wife divorced and gone with the kids, living a miserable life that nobody wants.  Far more of them than there are of the elitists, who wanted to Game of Thrones-style "SHAME!  SHAME!  SHAME!" people into voting for their candidate.  Who, as Glyph pointed out, has done every last trick in the book to alienate those who might have supported her from the middle.

Donald J Trump, Moore said, got up in front of a group of auto executives from Ford and said 'if you close this factory and move it to Mexico, I'm slapping a 35% tax on any car you import to the US,' and that nobody else had the guts (his words) to do this.

He summed up by saying this: Those voters will go into the booth on voting day, and give their assent to the man who has threatened, time and again, to overturn the system that has ruined their lives.

*shrug* we shall see what happens. I will go laughing as they drag me to the funny farm. Though maybe itl be fun to hang out with all the sane people now that the madmen are running the asylum.

And again, the bulk of Trump's voters aren't the people who deny climate change or evolution or Ebola, because those aren't issues they give a damn about. They care about their lives and their livelihoods - Trump has lied to them and promised he will fix their problems.

I am not happy that Trump is doing so well, but I think that party polarization is a big issue that also needs to be addressed.

They don't throw political dissidents into asylums.

I have no room left for optimism. I have watched tonight as America systematically crucified everything that I stand for and believe in. Logic, reason, and fact are my gods and I watched them die tonight. What good is my mind - my knowledge - in a world that villifies both and raises the con man up as a paragon of virtue?

What you see today was something that was a long time coming. But we all plugged our ears and tried to pretend our government didn't need a fix. Whelp too late now.

Gotta wait till the next election. And there will be one. Onlyu question is will it be more fucked up than this oen or will there be some real hope?

Optimism, logic, reason and fact are our strengths.  Knowledge is the weapon we wield to fight the enemy.  We can remain bloody but unbowed, bruised but not defeated.

Trump is going to damage this country and this world but in four years we can get rid of him and start over again.

*nods* Five to one that there will be rioting and some rough protests over this election outcome in the comng weeks and months.

Not to mention that Trump will totally try to make good on his pledges to have Hillary tried, locked up and vilified as a No.1  threat to national security.  :-(

So they are willing to give power to those that do deny climate change and evolution in return for false promises that a simple fact check will show will never happen??

So explain to me how that is not either stupidity or willfull self destruction.

Except we are defeated. We are being defeated as we speak. The people have already said that they do not care bout the facts or logic or reason. They do not care for optimism because they prefer to believe in boogeymen sneaking into the country to kill them. They want rhetoric and promises and lies. We have no weapon to fight against this because they have robbed the weapon of it's edge. They don't believe in it.

They feel like they've lost everything, and so have nothing to lose. And if global warming ends up swallowing the East and West coast, I have a feeling many would just say good riddance.

Yeah. But the people voting for him aren't the ones drowning. They're the ones whose feet are getting wet and are building a dam flooding their neighbours in the process. Sadly the contractor is Donald Trump so from past experience that dam is built with substandard materials, and will crack at the first trouble.

I'm sure this was a severe case of confirmation bias here on the part of the pollsters.
