Hey, guys!  So, I got the idea to run a game where various characters from Grimm's fairytales and Disney characters are brought together to attend a private, fantastical university.  I am currently working up the comprehensive information for the recruitment thread, but I wanted to put out feelers first to ensure it will get enough traction to make the rest of the work worthwhile.

The basic premise is that the souls of characters from fairy tales are linked by a magical force they are unaware of, and they've been reborn many times over through the ages.  Often these souls are brought together by the force linking them, so in their past lives they might have been friends, lovers, relatives or even bitter enemies.  The relationships aren't necessarily dictated by the ones they had in their stories, so it is perfectly possible for a villain and hero to fall in love, or for souls who were once related to end up as enemies.

The magical force keeps them all reborn at around the same time, which explains why all of them are now within the range of 18-25.  Dr. Facilier has utilized some of his special skills to find the lost souls of the fairy tale beings scattered all over the world and will be inviting them to attend a highly-prestigious private university in Scotland.
All of their expenses will be paid, all of their tuition is taken care of by this mysterious benefactor who has chosen them specifically from the millions of college-age people the world over.  (I haven't decided just yet why anyone with half a brain wouldn't immediately chuck the obviously too good to be true letter, but I'm probably gonna go with 'Eh...magic.')

The story will have an over-arcing plot and smaller plots scattered here and there, as well as events for the students to participate in.  But, for the most part this will be a slice-of-life, sandbox game for you guys to play in and enjoy.

Let me know down below if you're interested!  I'll be wanting only real life face claims, and only one version of each character.  So, if someone chooses to play Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid, that would mean the Grimm's version would be off the table as well.  It just makes things less confusing.

I am just getting back into the swing of things but yeah I would be interested.

Hi, Tanglefoot!  Welcome back.  I am fairly certain we've been in games together before, but my memory is Swiss cheese, so I can't be certain.  Still, thrilled to see you're interested.

Hey, Beks and Blue!  -grins.-

If anyone has any questions, just drop them here.  I have the basics worked out in my head, but there's always something you don't think of and questions really do help solidify stuff.

Totoro

Love this. Definitely interested. Struggling a little for time but I'd like to be involved.

My only questions revolve around how intense the link between the characters and their fairytale equivalents might be.

IE: Do they know they're linked to their own character (Not to others) or have any inkling of these past lives?

Do the fairytale character's physical and personal traits transfer 1:1 or just a minor influence on the PC's.

As an easy example would Ariel be expected to be a redheaded woman with a personality similar to her Disney characterisation?

BlueEyedBard

To add to that...

How "far out" magically, or otherwise, do you want characters to go? Can Peter Pan fly?
Or do you want them more reigned in?

My thoughts on the links between a character's fairy tale soul and their current personality/appearance/ect. is up to the player.

Since these souls have experienced multiple past lives, there's plenty of room for them to 'evolve' into someone who is totally different from their storybook self.  Plus, those stories are quite possibly altered from the truth of what these characters once lived, due to the nebulous nature of storytelling and how things are altered over retellings.

That being said, there will be a level of 'awakening' over time due to their proximity to one another and workings in the wings, so certain traits or abilities might be reborn in them as their memories of who they once were are returned to them.

That will be later on in the game though, so to start with people should feel free to include as much or as little of their fairy tale persona in the character as they like.  (Yes, this includes gender-bending and altering the race of a character, if you like.)

To start with, the characters are unaware of their past lives and the part they play in the fairy tales they grew up with.  At most they might feel some sense of vague connection or pull toward those who shared their story, but it would easily be passed off as a normal thing that happens between people sometimes.  This is especially true in Dellban, since technically everyone is linked.

As to Bard's question on magic.  At first I want the characters with abilities to be pretty much sans any ability to tap that magic.  So, for example, Peter Pan can't fly...but he might have a really good jump shot, or an amazing sense of balance.  Nothing supernatural, just remarkable, you know?

For those characters who weren't magically gifted, should their players like, they can be exceptional at some other trait their fairy tale counterpart was good at.  Ariel might be a really good singer or swimmer, Snow White might be especially charming or wonderful with animals, ect.  There will be a spot on the sheet for something like that.

As the game progresses and they become more in-tune with their fairy tale personas, these abilities will intensify and take on a more supernatural element.  Eventually Pan might fly, and Snow might be able to direct armies of woodland creatures to defeat her foes while the Immigrant Song plays in the background...

Oh man that is exciting. There is so much to play with...too many ideas!

Totoro

Awesome, very happy with that answer.

Last question: Are we going strictly Brother's Grimm fairytale characters and Disney characters or is there scope for other fairytale figures?

With Disney characters is it encouraged to aim for the fairytale ones or is it just anything in a Disney movie?

I think it might be best to limit the scope to just the Grimm fairy tales and Disney characters.  I've got a link to a pretty sizable list of the Grimm fairy tales from which people can draw.

As for the characters, it suits the plot more to stick to the stories from the movies.  However, someone brought up Lilo & Stitch, and I would consider that one to be a 'modern fairy tale'.  If someone has a particular character they want to try, but they aren't sure if it fits the idea, I'm totally available for questions.

Hm. Considering this. How obscure on the Disney can we go? It gets a bit more awkward as they acquire more and more properties, haha.

I'm good with pretty much anything, as long as the source material fits the overall 'theme'.  If you're unsure about your source movie, just ask and I'll let you know whether or not it fits.

Also, the player decides the traits/abilities that their character acquires once I give the go ahead to start letting them awaken, and they don't have to be physical.

Sleeping Beauty and The Chronicles of Narnia totally suit the theme.  I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Announcement:

I'll be posting up the official recruitment thread this weekend!

I might also be interested in having a character or two for this c:
