Wisconsin court binds Kyle Rittenhouse over to stand trial on six charges, two of them homicide and one attempted homicide after a pre-trial hearing by video link. Trial is set for Jan 5th.

I can see the misdemeanor sticking in this case, but the two homicides, and attempted homicide are just charges they are throwing at the wall and seeing if it will stick. Which I find unlikely in this case.

ShadowFox89

He had facebook posts earlier in the day of the protest stating his intention to go up to Kenosha and shoot people. Makes a very strong case for first degree.

I wanna know who the heck is putting up all these monoliths all over the place. I doubt 2020 is the time we make first contact with extraterrestrials so who's the asshat putting these up for a marketing campaign? Anyone else curious about this?

Feels to me someone as a joke put up the first, then copycats.

From the pics the second one was of much worse quality not being polished as nicely. You could see the marks from the tools

The leading theory is that an artist did it but his estate is keeping quiet. At least the one that seems likely to me, and yeah the 2nd one was kinda..half finished.

Haibane

The first one shows in Google Earth imagery as early as 2016. Photos of the same area taken in 2015 do not show it. Scrub was also cleared in the small canyon where it was sited so it had been around a while, unannounced. Almost certainly an art installation with the artist remaining silent, which is something that adds to the interest and impact. In fact not claiming ownership may even be a part of the art itself. I agree that any we find now will be copycats.

I am somewhat annoyed that the first one has been taken down.

I feel confident the homicide charges will stick. You could claim self-defence if you were attacked on your own private property probably, but carrying a gun illegally to another state into a city experiencing violent protests? No. Not in the slightest is that self-defence.

TheGlyphstone

They do have the video of him allegedly being chased by protestors, though. When all the defense needs to establish us 'reasonable doubt' as to deliberate intent, he could walk away with a plea bargain for manslaughter.

But more likely, itll be a hung jury or mistrial, because of how hyper politicized itll be. He's become the proxy for the entire MAGA movement.

Haibane

Crowds of people don't usually chase after and try to beat up people just for carrying a gun. Is there video of the start of the incidents that led to the three shootings? The issue is the gun itself though isn't it? If he had carried a knife in his boot for self-defence, or a baseball bat, I doubt there would have been anything like the same incident. If could have chosen to remove the ammo clip and throw it aside, or even throw the gun aside, or smash it against a lamp post, or a number of other options if he felt threatened because he had a gun. Pulling the trigger is only one of a number of options he had, but it is what he chose to do.

A Federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore DACA!  :-)

Haibane

Great news.

"The Brooklyn-based Garaufis ruled last month that a Trump administration policy refusing to allow new applications was void because the official who issued it in July, Chad Wolf, lacked the authority to do so. The Trump administration describes Wolf as the acting secretary of Homeland Security, but the judge said Wolf was not lawfully elevated to that position."

Emphasis mine.

Trump's practice of not officially appointing people into offices but making temporary appointees comes back to bite him in the behind.

Ehh... that is the strange thing about 'crowds'. Mob mentality can get people to do something they wouldn't normally do on their own. It is why you see people flipping police cars in various protest or riots. It is a rolling effect of one person doing a small thing, and then each testing what more they can get away with. Then the whole crowd joins in. Also I haven't heard anything about the whole issue being based just on him carrying a gun, and so for all we know having something as ineffective as a knife or bat in that situation could have ended with murder of himself.

I have heard that he was doing a number of things at the protest before the videos, from simply helping to protect a business, to providing some medical aid to protesters. Though between all that it seems something happened, and the question on what is unanswered.

Some REALLY interesting news about Rinnehouse's defense team. Honestly worth a read, but basically they are beyond broke. 65+ million dollars in the red. Setting up a donation that they could potentially take money from instead of using it for Kyle or the case.

They are being sued for owing peeps money.

Biden now has 270 electoral votes now that California's certified their votes. Its official boys, girls and the technicolored rainbow in between; Trump is out on January 20th, 2021!

legomaster00156

I mean, that's the exact same position he's been in since November 3rd. He just isn't accepting that reality.

Haibane

No, no, on the evening of Nov 3rd Trump had won. He said so. A week or so later he even told Biden it was a mistake to claim victory before all the legal votes were counted. It was on TV, it must be true.

[/sarcasm]

Haibane

Also, maybe the wrong thread?

Laughing Hyena

Perhaps it should have been in the positive and uplifting stories. With the states now certifying all the electoral votes I was watching the count. But my mistake if this wasn't the latest news.
