That is an insane video.
My favorite is the guy in the background walking back & forth not paying any attention as if it's just a normal thing. "Oh yeah, Paula going bat-crazy? We call it Thursday."

So, someone I know that used to be a Pentecostal explained that.  It's called a 'Jericho Walk', meant to imitate the march that the Israelites made around the city of Jericho before blowing their horns and causing the walls to fall.  It's actually part of the crazy.

Biden's transition team has been outlining their day one agenda. Some interesting tidbits....

* Provide state, local, and tribal governments with the aid they need so educators, firefighters, and other essential workers aren’t being laid off.
* Extend COVID crisis unemployment insurance to help those who are out of work.
* Provide a comeback package for Main Street businesses and entrepreneurs.
* Immediately put people to work by enlisting them to help fight the pandemic, including through a Public Health Jobs Corps.

* A nationwide ban on chokeholds
* Stopping the transfer of weapons of war to police forces
* Improving oversight and accountability, to create a model use of force standard
* Creating a national police oversight commission

He's also said he'll undo Trump's rollback of the guidelines that protected trans kids in schools and federal trans employees.

There's a lot more that's very grandiose and much more vague on there too, what I picked out are the very specific and focused goals.

I feel like we should lock this thread on January 20th, 2021. A day that cannot come soon enough.

Whew, lords today at work was interesting.  I work predominantly with Republicans - the dyed in the wool, hardcore, drank the kool-aid Trump supporting Republicans.  I knew that it was going to be a shitshow when they called the election for Biden and I was not wrong.

Today I was subjected to talk of how Biden is a pedophile.  How the federal government found thousands upon thousands of Trump ballots stuffed in closets, warehouses, dumpsters, and boxes.  How unmarked vans brought in thousands of fake ballots for Biden in the middle of the night. How the federal government has found thousands of dead voters that cast ballots.  How one woman stood ON CAMERA and filled out hundreds of ballots for Biden then turned them all in. How Biden was buddy buddy with Epstein and visited his island many, many times.  How the election is not over, the Supreme Court will give the election to Trump.

I am pretty sure I lost over half my brain cells and have decided I will tell anyone and everyone that my desk area is a no politics talk zone.  Let my Captain get onto me.  I don't want to hear that shit.

Honey, one of the women going on and on about the election being rigged flat out whined that this all has her so stressed out she has cried till her stomach hurt.  Tried to point out that if the Democrats rigged the election then we totally suck since McConnell is still in the Senate.  She just stared at me blankly.  I gave up at that point.  It's not worth my sanity nor my minuscule amount of patience.

That's actually genuinely frightening that people believe this. The world through their eyes must be a completely different place. Effectively Wacky Conspiracy Theory Land has become real life for some. There ought to be free counselling set up for those that think this way so they can be rehabilitated back into normal society and function properly alongside the rest of us. You can't unify America with that mindset occupying the brains of a massive chunk of the population. This Conspiracy-Cultism is definitely a new thing since the early 2000s. It seemed to begin with 9/11 and the moon landings and anti-vax and now everything for some people is a huge lie. My mind boggles at how their existence must seem to them.

Beguile's Mistress

I know you'd take your life in your hands if you brought this up but Chuck Todd asked Mitt Romney on "Meet the Press" today if anyone stopped to think that if all those Biden votes were fake what would that mean for all the down ballot votes for Republicans.  Are they fake, too?

Romney seemed a little perplexed. :D

Beorning

Please tell me: did Trump made any speech regarding the results yet? Did he admit defeat, or is he still claiming he won?

Of course he hasn't  He's still saying the election was stolen and is threatening all the law suits to steal it back, or try to.  :D

This would be ideal. The way forward with something like this, is to use cult de-programming (even if it is not strictly a cult, a lot of what happens follows the "rules" of cult indoctrination). Unfortunately, you really can't help people that don't want to be helped, and that may lead them to feeling further entrenched or besieged.

A guy I watch said he doesn't expect Trump to concede.  Rather, he thinks the more likely scenario is that Trump uses this as an excuse to resign, in which case Pence will take over until Biden's inauguration.  And, he thinks that Pence will issue a full presidential pardon for Trump if that happens.

No joke. All I've been hearing nonstop from family all around me since the 4th is about this stuff and how Trump is going to take it to court. It's actually kind of scary and I find it difficult to celebrate the win because I'm genuinely terrified that he's got a chance to steal it. Then again, these same folks keep saying how the end is nigh, Jesus is coming again, it has been prophesied, etc. So, I guess it speaks to a general willingness to abandon reality and a persecution complex.

I'm just going to point out that Ford regretted that for the rest of his life, only taking consolation that Nixon's acceptance of the pardon was tantamount to admitting he'd done the thing.

Also, there are certain crimes that the President cannot issue pardons for, and Trump has a passel of those on deck.

Makes the assumption that Donald Trump will cede a jot of power and prestige a single second sooner than he has to. That he won’t just pardon himself (whether or not he can, legally, is irrelevant) and dare other people to do anything about it.

That's going to be my life on Monday, though at least I only have to listen to it when I'm on break - the workstations are spread out too far for chatter otherwise.

Apparently Jared Kushner and Melania have told Trump he needs to concede.

I'm not concerned by this posturing. Let all the Georgia Trump supporters live in denial and boycott the electoral process while the runoff elections proceed. This is great.

I'm pretty sure you can rest assured that the recount won't change anything significant.  I think the most a recount ever did was net a few hundred votes due to the ballots being read incorrectly, which is far less than Trump would need to take any of the states Biden won...even the closest one, I believe.  And, at this point Biden's got too many electoral votes for even faithless electors to alter the outcome.

Here’s the thing..in a way, just like the resignation, this was something that needed to be done. I’m not sure the presidency would have survived then. Plus it was mostly for items after the fact, though the feel I get is Nixon didn’t want to know what they were doing.

I think it did have the effect of slowing the rise of the authoritarian President outlook. Though not enough to have any lasting effect.

Trump has done so much, and a lot of it is at a state level, to easily pardon. Pence has to be aware of how Ford did after the pardon and he is very much a political creature. I think if the President wants to avoid prison after this.. the words ‘non-extradition country’ have to be involved. Him and his whole damn family and possibly a chunk of the cabinet.

I'm very glad to hear it. We have a lot riding on this election and I hate to let the conspiracy Second Comers in my house get me down.

I will admit this thread and others I have visited has bolstered my hope that everything will be alright.

Narcissists cling to what power they have, pretty tightly. They'll grasp whatever straws they can get to maintain it, and when that seems to fail, they turn the screws on what they do have control over. Trump steps down, he loses a lot of control, and I don't think he trusts Pence to pardon him, because Trump will probably blame Pence in part and if the situation were reversed, he'd screw over Pence.

He's appointed three justices to the Supreme Court, and likely isn't going to get four on his side for any of these lawsuits for them to even grant a writ.

I think the courts, up to the Supreme Court, will be the next target of his anger.

When this fails to get results, I think he will attack Republicans, his own base, and even his family for not doing enough for him.
