Fighting isn't just about how much you can do, but about knowing when and where it is appropriate to fight. Controlling yourself is very important. Given her nature, a pair up with her and Gaia would likely result in a very pleased school. Since her reserved and last resort nature would actually be useful in keeping her Shiki modulated. Though who knows, she might learn that sometimes you just have to fight because Gods damnit... You are sick of others walking all over you. A simple show of strength and skill, to cow the bullies away - doesn't always go too badly. xD

Plus there is primal sort joy just break things up; like breaking clay jars, crystal glasses after drinking from them or blast off country side up with single punch and watch how scenery changes as you sculpt landscape with beatting it up ;). Breaking or destroying is not just to means to harm; but also have fun. Fireworks are explosions and explosion is a destructive force/event, but it looks pretty in night sky.

So as said; interesting dynamic none the less if those two get paired up. As Gaia has very least restraint in regards his own powers (and can be truly scary considering scale of stuff he can do in his full power).

Leki

@SweetSerenade
That sounds acceptable. As I mentioned briefly before, I mainly wanted to know what sort of martial arts you had planned, because it's quite infuriating when a character suddenly becomes an all encompassing combat expert, based on their family running a dojo. (I kid you not, I've had to argue with a guy who tried to say parkour allowed them to dodge missiles, and the heir of a dojo say their 'traditional' martial arts involved various gunpowder weapons).

@Ayame-Gaia
I'm glad to see that people are discussing compatibility with one another, and even more pleased to see that people aren't compromising for the sake of compatibility. It's pretty clear from the character sheets that Ayame and Gaia have very different attitudes towards conflict, and I agree that playing out their differences could be interesting.

SweetSerenade

Ayame would have little to no talent with Guns, but she'd be happy to use them to bash someone over the head if she had to. She's pretty much Melee based, and the only projectiles she would have experience with are throwing based weapons or traditional Bow and Arrows. That's about as far as she would go.

Bakemono Shiki RP(Lovely Siggy Layout is thanks to Amaris)

Zaer Darkwail

Yeah, using guns in close combat as blunt weapons is actually creative use of them and even present modern military teaches 'how use gun without bullets on it' for this purpose. As gun can always yam and get stuck or soldier run out of ammo. But even without ammo the gun is made from metal and plastic and it's shape is deal for sort 'hand axe' wield them but as blunt ones. Or even throw them in last ditch effort.

Broken

Ilian can go with just about anyone, however if the romantic taboo is going to be a big plot point I can only see that with Tamanka. But otherwise a platonic companionship is fine with anyone else.

Leki

Eh, I'm going to admit that I don't care too much for modern day weapons myself, and while I'll be more than happy to have a few random goons equip themselves with a certain gun brand. I'm not about to go into the specific details of how one should or could be used.

In regards to Ayame's character, my understanding is that she's quite adept with hand-to-hand combat, and is capable of utilizing various objects as weaponry. Her capabilities could be described as a 'rising star' if she's really good. But in terms of actual fighting, she'd be easily defeated by a demon, or a well trained solider on the island (There'll be a military facility on the island). Essentially she's good, but she's not a professional tier good.

With the romantic taboo thing between Humans and their Shiki, it's not compulsory.
Hence if you opt to seek a fellow human-human relationship there'll be some sort of alternative event for you instead.
While we'll reach the minimum number of participants soon, I'm hoping for a few more character before we start.
And upon seeing what shortages we have in the character roster, I'm hoping secondaries (for those who want them) will plug any remaining gaps.

SweetSerenade

I think that a Trained soldier would be able to take her down, with some major effort - if the need was to be had. Unless they had a similar background or more years of experience in martial arts.

A Demon could do so much more easily, due to their magic and inhuman nature.

But she is no way a push over. She's been being trained since she could walk, that's how most of those facilities work. The Regimens that families use, especially with the Heir of the Dojo, are often harsher than what you would think. It produces a capable fighter from a younger age. Part of her regimen is a minimum of 3 hours daily, practicing the forms and sparring with training dummies. This also includes the basic weaponry that this form is known for using.

Hmmm...amazing. Well, Roxxy's been told she has a pretty mean right hook...so she's got that going for her...
What a thrill...with silence and darkness through the night....

Yeah, I imagine Roxxy would be thrilled using Gaia's powers and have no hesitations whatsoever for random destruction as she goes superhero spree ;).

Leki

@SweetSerenade
On second thought, I'm happy for her to be able to take on trained personnel.
I'm admittedly a bit paranoid about overpowered human characters, since it really does throw the balance of power in this roleplay out of whack if a human is able to single handedly take down a Shiki/Demon that is on level 2 (Servant) or higher.
In regards to Ayame, I'd say she's capable enough to take on a solider or two, but would be hopelessly swamped if half a dozen relatively skilled adult men swamped her. (Relatively skilled meaning they're far more skilled than a group of street thugs).
How she goes down, is obviously up to you.

@Characters
After looking over the character roster, I've decided I'll be adding two Shiki for the time being.
They'll be from Fervus(Female) and Nayuva(Male).
And I've just been contacted with a potential Elianore(Male).

So if all goes according to plan we should be on;
Humans (3): Ilian, Roxanne, Ayame
Shiki (6): [[(1) of each element, except Fervus which has two.]]

I may consider adding another human if no one else expresses interest.
Again, if you know anyone who might be interested, send them here~
Or give me their name so that I can shoot them a message :P
Yes, I'm getting desperate

SweetSerenade

Well if there is a surplus of Shiki and less humans - it means the Shiki's have to find ways to charm their humans to make a bond. There is only a stigma against Shiki and Humans having sex when they are bonded partners right? But no one ever said /before/ they can't xP

But yeah, I know what you mean with Ayame. I'm excited to play her and see who she interacts with. Though I'm delighted to see if we end up with more Shikis. It means that we might end up with double bonds. xP

Look for someone named Steir, they should be looking things over right now.

Steir

Finally caught up with the thread. And yes, I am expressing interest in this game. I need to know what we're missing, so I can plug gaps (plugging gaps can be fun, they said :3c).

If we're missing Shikis, I have some ideas in mind. That said, questions to ideas of Shikis:

#1
How would the idea of an earthbound spirit (ghost) being a Shiki? One concept I have is some sort of warrior/bodyguard who died protecting his master and has remained on the same spot waiting for the return of his master. He'll probably have a very dedicated personality and may tend to be rigid with his beliefs, but is very loyal and will protect whoever he is sworn to. An alternative would be to go with a Dullahan who was impressed and wishes to find means to protect humans.

#2
Some enigmatic trickster spirit who joined the cause of humans because it's "more interesting that way". He'd mostly be uncooperative and will act on his preferences (using another ability to achieve an intended result in another way). His full cooperation could be met if his ulterior motive coincides with the situation. He'll mostly inconvenience or tease the human he made a contract with, but not to the point that the human would be having a hard time doing his/her duties.

Leki

Hey Steir, thanks for expressing interest!
We've got a pretty good balance of characters at the moment, so either Shiki or human would work great. Our primary problem is overall numbers (Though that's almost solved). xD

Idea 1
I'm going to have to knock this concept back for two reasons;
Firstly I'd like Shiki to retain their self-serving purposes. As I mentioned initially "All Shiki are inherently chaotic creatures" hence the concept of a character who's 'good' and loyal would simply contradict that pattern.
Secondly, Shiki should be complimentary to their human partner in terms of interactions, opposed to being an accessory. A character that's sworn to be loyal to one human would be conceptually stuck and dependent on one character. And have trouble in the overall scheme of things.

Idea 2
I'm not opposed to the concept, but will admit that it heavily reflects existing personalities already within the roleplay. Although I like the sounds of an enigmatic trickster, and the concept of the character having their own objectives, the overall description is pretty vague in terms of what the character is actually like. Furthermore, I'd prefer to avoid any further Shiki joining the Academy out of 'curiosity' if possible since... well it's gets pretty boring when all Shiki are smoothing their (imaginary) mustaches and going "Hmmm, interesting" xD

Suggestion
Despite knocking the idea back, I do think that [Idea 1] is striking a good base with the earthbound warrior-spirit thing. Hence I figured I'd offer a quick concept of my own. According to my understanding Earthbound spirits tend to have a strong emotional reason for not wanting to pass on (either that or they're just oblivious to the fact they've died). Since resentment seems to be pretty high up on the strong motives list, I was thinking...

What do you think about a character who was betrayed/abandoned or even unfairly accused and executed by their own 'master.' Resentful that their former lord/lady would cast them aside so easily after a lifetime of loyal servitude, the spirit wishes to seek revenge on the master; but due to him being dead he'd instead opt to seek revenge on the descendants. His motives for joining could be conditional in that he wants to harm the descendants, but is willing to loyally serve someone if they're willing to assist him in his cause. In the meantime they could be in search of a new liege to serve, but their loyal nature gets in the way of them truly pledging themselves to a new lord without fully severing ties with the old first.

You actually singlehandedly ironed out what I really wanted for my character. Your suggestion is what I'm thinking of as the polished idea. :D

Now to further the description of the earthbound spirit - either I can go with a yojimbo, which is a swordsman who has taken the cause of protecting his lord, or some sort of sentinel, an armored warrior that literally protects his liege from any harm. I feel like I wanted to mix in a trait distinct from a Dullahan to this character - making him headless (and probably always holding his head with one arm).

Would the character prioritize his needs over the host? Being an earthbound spirit I would say it will be hard for him not to do so. Depending on the details on why he died - would he be able to come to terms with his death or follow through with his vengeance? I guess that would depend on how the game will unfold.

Name: Rensha
Age: 25
Height: 5'7” (172cm)
Hair Color: Golden Blonde
Eye Color: Violet Purple
Type: Shiki
Element: Fervus
Personality: Infuriating Mischief
SHIKI
Q: What was your character's life like prior to aligning with the Academy? How did they terrorise/infuriate mankind?  What kind of reputation did they have among their own kind?

Rensha is an elusive free-spirited individual who has spent the entirety of her life roaming the world with neither purpose or goal in mind. Although she isn't inherently malicious towards mankind, she holds little to no regard for their existence. On the contrary she perceives them to be entertaining playthings who are hopeless before her pilfering antics. Undetectable to the average man, Rensha has had the opportunity to comfortably gaze upon humans while they hysterically bumble around for their missing possessions. Adoring the sight of a man frantically looking for his car keys, or the bewildered look of a woman who'd realize the perfect meal she'd spent hours cooking had vanished into thin air.

Rensha's generally kept a relatively low profile throughout her life, opting towards shady businesses and personal households. Her most notable crimes however were committed during her teenage years, where she stole a string of valuables from various museums and estates; earning her the reputation of a mystifying phantom thief who left the authorities dumbfounded each and every time. To  complicate investigations further the stolen goods would often turn up in the most unexpected of places, ranging from a shelf in a corner store, to the private vault of a influential businessman.

Q: Explain why your character decided to align themselves with the Academy.
While messing around with the heads of her human victims has proven to be quite the time-killer over the years, Rensha has become quite discontented by her victims inability to perceive and credit her for the hardwork she puts into infuriating them. Growing weary of playing the mouse, in a hopelessly rigged game of cat and mouse, she's approached the only group of humans on the planet who she believes will be able to help her with her dilemma of boredom. Seeking the thrill of a chase that doesn't have the potential to end with her being swallowed whole by some oversized lizard, or endlessly haunted by tireless ghouls. She hopes to find someone that's versatile and able to perform not only the duties of a chew-toy, but also a worthwhile adversary to her never ending quest for entertaining mischief...  Additionally, she may or may not have been lured to the island after hearing that the island was a treasure trove from various sources.

Avalon29

Well she certainly looks like she'll be a fun character to interact with.

Name: Tsurugikabe
Age: 514 years (died at age 26)
Height: 5'8"
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Type: Shiki
Element: Krypta
Personality: Brooding

Q: What was your character's life like prior to aligning with the Academy? How did they terrorise/infuriate mankind?  What kind of reputation did they have among their own kind?
Tsurugikabe was a bodyguard to a just and noble feudal lord during the time he was still alive. He was unjustly executed for a crime he had not committed, and have since then become an earthbound spirit seeking revenge for his tragic death. He has since then haunted the town he has served when he lived, seeking descendants of his lord and those who tried him for death.

Q: Explain why your character decided to align themselves with the Academy.
The brooding earthbound spirit was promised that the the descendants of his lord and those who tried him will be found. In the meantime he extends his services and skills to the Academy in exchange for fulfilling his need of closure.

Tsurugikabe before his death (and probably if he finds his peace):

Leki

Tsurugikabe accepted, I'm looking forward to how he contributes to the cast of characters, and also how people shorten his name to something more... pronounceable xD

Still looking for a few more characters; Shiki would be good, but a human or two more would be amazing.

Steir

I can think up of a human character if need be, but I'll have to check what human characters we have so far.

:3c

It would be amusing to see of what sort of nicknames he'd end up receiving. I might have to make a list of them.

SweetSerenade

xD I have experience with Japanese on a college level. Tsurugikabe is not that hard. There is way worse on the tongue twister level. xD

Bakemono Shiki RP(Lovely Siggy Layout is thanks to Amaris)

Leki

Oh? So we have a Japanese specialist amongst us? xD
It isn't really that hard to say, but a lot of people tend to struggle with the 'tsu' sound, and I can already foresee a few people misspelling it at some point. Plus, with a five syllable name, shortening is inevitable xD

I've mentioned it previously, but I'd rather hold off on people dual-character for at least the first few weeks. My experiences with people dual-charactering from the very start has consistently been negative, and I'd rather not start wishing death upon the roleplay xD
That said... it might be inevitable to do so, since it seems like we've got as much interest as we're going to get.

@Steir (All character sheets thus far are posted in this thread, they're a bit scattered, but Ilian, Roxanne, Ayame are our three humans at the monent).

Question
Quick headcount to see who's still here~
Additionally, if you'd be interested in a secondary character I'd appreciate it if you could also state that you're available.

SweetSerenade

I was on my second year of Japanese on a College level, before tragedy struck my house and caused problems with maintenance of the grade. I also had independent study before that, so I have a bit of experience with it. I found complicated tongue twisters usually fell into the realm with any words that repetitive sound patterns that were only slightly different than the ones that came before... then bounce back by four or so syllables. xD

I'm good to go :3

Bakemono Shiki RP(Lovely Siggy Layout is thanks to Amaris)

Avalon29

I'm still here. I can also do a second character but I'd like to wait a little while after we start the game to see how things go before creating the second character.
