Yeah, no need for tentacles for every situation. That was just a cliche example to get you all into the mood. :P

I do carefully take people's o/os in mind in group games. Demons range from hideous tentacle abominations to sexy devil-men and devil-ladies and everything inbetween.

Yeah, Yurie, that can be handwaved easily enough by, "uh, magic!?"

Perhaps the most powerful magical girls 'live forever' in the form of their items and nobody else has acquired an item that a previous owner has imprinted upon.

Year is a little irrelevant, except for the judicious use of 'sempai' honorifics. ;)

Leki

If you're going to shamelessly use honorifics, the least you could do is use them right.
Spelling them right would be a start.

S.E.N.P.A.I

Not bloody sempai  >:(

TheFourthShade

What about a sempai who is not bloody?

...I'll let myself out now.

Well, then it wouldn't be shameless, would it? You came in here just to say that? :/

Because I was curious, I did a little research. The hiragana for 先輩 is せんぱい and the romaji IS Senpai.

The hiragana 'ん' can stand for 'n' but also in some cases 'm', as in てんぷら or tempura.

As someone who is learning Chinese, I can tell you that romanizations can be very misleading. Mandarin's 'Qin' isn't pronounced with a hard 'K' sound like 'Quartz' but more like a 'Tch' sound as in 'Chin'

So what we have is a lot of anime translated 先輩 as 'sempai' instead of senpai because of that ん hiragana confusing the localization team or anime fans writing it out phonetically and not hearing the 'n' sound. Often native Japanese speakers change the pronunciation themselves because an 'enp-' sound is a bit burdensome compared to the 'emp-' sound. Look at the way your mouth has to move to go from 'n' to 'p' vs. 'm' to 'p'

More information: https://nihongoshark.com/is-it-senpai-or-sempai/
Video

TL:DR - It's not that important. But in the interest of my own education and respect for not fucking up other cultures, I'll remember to write senpai from now on. :P

Blood Type: O (Blood type personality theory
Favorite Food: Spicy
Least Favorite Food: Sour
Magical Device: Devil's Dices; Three white dices (made from devil king's bones) which all sides are empty
Special Abilities:

Rolling the Bones: This is Akio's both strongest and weakest ability and can also be his weakness, before he can use any of his powers and abilities he rolls the bone dices which will grant him variety of magical powers which scale (three dices, three powers). However if triple digits are done a further unique ability is granted or manifested on and it's not always beneficial! This is much matter of luck determine will he win battle or not.

1: Dark One's Luck; Warlock can negate single unwanted event targeting him, need conjure it before event completes (example; avoid hit by demon but if hit already power has no effect), power has short cooldown before can be uttered again.
2: Eldricth Blast; Able conjure magical bolts and fire them on target to harm them. Especially potent against those who suffer someform of bad luck.
3: Warping; Able teleport short distances at-will (works only himself).
4: Dark Summoning; Able conjure enemies shadows to fight for warlock (potency of shadows is half from original but can summon new one when old one is defeated).
5: Eldricth Barrier; Can conjure a barrier which can protect warlock and anyone standing adjacent/ directly behind to him, can block light and medium attacks but one strong attack can shatter barrier and warlock is unable conjure new one for brief time.
6: Eldricth Storm; Can conjure single massive attack which targets multiple foes (all which must be under of night sky or cast under a shadow).

Triple digits;
1x1x1: Jinx suffers bad luck for entire week (non-lethal way), rolling dices again
2x2x2: Enemy will suffer bad luck for a week, rolling dices again
3x3x3: Jinx powers double in potency and he grows/transforms more masculine! Roll dices again (transformation lasts week)
4x4x4: Jings powers halve in potency and he transforms into female version of himself! Roll dices again (transformation lasts week)
5x5x5: Enemies are instantly defeated (despite scale/size), no further dice rolled and dices are drained off their power for a week
6x6x6: Devils' number! Briefly almighty power of ancient devil king takes over Jinx, possess him and make him do act on his whims! Which may herald ultimate defeat for heroes or victory (most ultimate deus ex machina plot device driven by GM)!

Eldricth Senses: Even without rolling bones, he has supernatural senses to detect demons, monsters or sense their general presence in hundred yards (not accurate in location/number but can determine type what triggers his senses). Also he can detect use of magic and through practice able identify what sort magic is in use or in works. However in turn demons, devils and monsters are able to sense him and sense nature of his power.

Physical Description: Standing 5'7'ft height with crimson hair and emerald eyes with slim athletic build, Akio is handsome young man who wears glasses to able to read (he has difficult time to see tiny details). He wears formal clothing in school and when relaxing he favors jeans and t-shirts.
Biography: Kurosawa Akio hails from long lineage of warlocks, his family did make long time ago pact with devils to gain dark powers and one family 'unholy' relics is three bone dices which were made from bones of devil king; a former lord of demons and monsters in Japan before he was slain. Bones carry hint of his awesome power and family members are taught to tap into bones to unlock their powers, albeit whimsical, but can whim destroy any foes they are facing by chance (or send to ruin).

Akio was a heir of family and he would had followed ways of his ancestors; practice dark arts for selfish gain if he had not met a sweet girl (who hailed from long line of priests) who changed his heart at childhood. Make him appreciate kindness, friendship and see he should not be bound to his family's dark destiny. He had no interest to conquer the world, but rather live in it. However family disagreed with his desires and he was harshly disciplined by his father. His father wanting to awaken 'darkness' in his son which had been misled....he figured out the culprit being the girl who worked as shinto priestess in family shrine. His father used dark magic to summon demons to defile girl's family shrine, rape and kill her before Akio's eyes, his father found more success he bargained for. As Akio then willingly performed family pact on the devil's dices, binding himself to it like his family had done for centuries....then rolled the bones and he got triple fives! With his desire to annihilate his own accursed family the powerful magic in dices destroyed everyone in his own family! Expect himself.

So drained by the deed (and also sensing the immense magical power unleashed by the devil's bone dices), the Usagi School principle found Akio and once hearing what happened offered him chance for redemption and do good with his dark power....in becoming a magical boy in his school. So Akio agreed, for sake of his family dark legacy and for memory of girl who suffered because of his family, he donned his future career to battle monsters.

Character Goals: Seek redemption to his family's past dark deeds through heroic deeds and honor memory of his first friend.

Do you still have room for one more player? I have a couple of character ideas running through my mind so if you could let me know what might be needed I would be happy to fill in.

I was about to call it after I got one more sheet, but I think we may be in need of a magical girl, funnily enough.

While the numbers are 4 and 4... two of the magical girls are guys (at least, when one's not transformed) and the other's a futa and kind of a double-agent besides. This basically makes NPCs and Arata Haruna the sole recipient of any in-house heterosexual romance. :P

Relikai

Welp, just because she's hetero doesn't mean a girl could not ambush her for some... fun...  ::) >:)

Magical girls are great! I'll get something up before I head to bed tonight.

That's true, but I also want to give Zaer and Yurie as many options for romance among the other PCs as possible. Granted, the schools will mingle a lot but they're at a bit of a disadvantage dating outside their school, no? ;)

Speaking of, Yurie, you ought to complete your o/os so I can figure out how to work in your ons and work around your offs.

Guess I should actually post interest in the thread instead of just talking about it in PMs!

rough:

Name: Hua Ban Zhu
Appearance:
Image

School: Sarutobi National High School 3rd Year
Club: Student Council, President
Hobbies: Voyeurism, running a secret police force, gardening, chemistry, engineering horrifying plant monsters to enforce her tyrannical will, tea ceremony, calligraphy, making that one Class Representative do all the shit jobs

Abilities:
Plant Control - Hua has control over all plants in her vicinity and can manipulate them to her ends, be they vines, trees or otherwise. Don't try to ambush her in a poison ivy patch, you will end up with rashes in very uncomfortable places.

Plant Senses - the basis of any authority over a ninja student body is based on knowing all their secrets. Hua can selectively see and hear through the plants strategically placed around the school. (It is a very green campus.) Something something joke about planted intelligence

Ninjitsu - sneaking and high jumps and holding your breath and knifes and shit

We're a Hedge, Please Move Along - Through experimentation too terrible for man to contemplate, all foliage surrounding the Sarutobi National High School is supernaturally effective as camouflage, whether comically-undersized, moving under observation or just patently ineffective. It's not perfect though. As part of her Plant Control, Hua is not vulnerable to this and can revoke it as she wishes.

History:
The refined eldest daughter of the prominent Zhu family, it was no surprise that Hua would eventually rise to supreme authority of Student Council President. The means by which her predecessor met with utter disgrace was more of a surprise and to this day is not spoken of, save that it involved noodles.

One part ninja, one part ojou, one part mad scientist, Hua will stop at nothing to ensure the power and prestige of her school surpasses all others. Oh, and something something fighting demons, I guess?

Name Ito, Sana
DoB: August 31st
School/Year: Usagi School for Gifted Children, first year
Hobbies: Eating, watching the History channel, reading, historical reinactments, acting, dress-making, spinning yarn and knitting (she hasn't been exposed to tabletop RPGs yet but it is something she would like)
Club: RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) - which she started. She also attends meetings in some other clubs or helps out occasionally - often it's Cooking Club where, although she's not an official member, she's a regular fixture.
Favorite Subject: History
Least Favorite Subject: Science
Blood Type: B
Favorite Food: Any and all sweet things
Least Favorite Food: Really spicy stuff
Magical Device: A carved garnet whorl
Guide: A rather large house spider. - They seemingly communicate with each other - or at least Sana is often talking to the thing. Most people just think she's gone a bit kooky.

Special Abilities: Sana is gifted with the ability to see (and somewhat manipulate) the red string of fate that connects people to others.

Tangle: The fate string can never break but it can become a riotous mess. With some work Sana can temporarily make it appear as if the enishi cord has been severed, making it difficult for others to know directions and make plans. It interferes with clear communication between those whose bonds are already established.

Tighten: Pulling on these literal heart strings, she can strike out mentally at an opponent. Using their social connections she causes emotions to run wild. That might be a overwhelming desire for a lover distracting them or fear over harm that may come to a loved one might send them running home. Mental visions may become a part of the spell. As with any attack nothing is assured - foes might grin and bare it, let it roll off their shoulders or end up having a full- on panic attack.

Ply: In its own way, this is the most powerful ability that Sana has. It can permanently graft connections of different people's threads to other's. In essence, it can create a more complex system of deep social connections. However, she has no idea how to effectively use it and feels more than a little guilty at the thought so she tries not to ply threads together at all.

Skeining Handling the enichi fiber allows her access to divination. She can see the connections between almost everyone and what a good course of action might be in a specific situation. She can also look into the past as the cord stretches on and on, which can sometimes let her see if others were attached in previous lifetimes. This ability takes a long time to perform and the farther she is removed (whether in time or space) from the issue at hand, the longer she must spend time touching the fiber. Spinning with the magic whorl on her spindle transforms the spun yarn into a piece of the red fate string during her own transformation sequence but in order for this particular ability to work it can not be artificial. (The fiber spun must be animal or plant-sourced. No acrylic or polyamide etc...)

-> Her transformation also affords her heightened dexterity and speed.

Bra size:
none of your business!
34 C

Physical Description: At 5'3 inches Sana is just past the average height of a Japanese female. She has a slim body - though that's more to do with her fast metabolism than any accrued time working out. She is full of energy but spends a lot of her time in daydreams as she works through chores and projects. She wears her uniform while at school, often with a sweatshirt over it. On her own she wears casual and comfortable clothing unless she's playing a role. Her eyes are her most unique feature and no one can quite pin down what color they really are though her hair at least is a consistent shade of brown.

Her "magical girl" garb is a rather frilly lolita getup with a spindle and distaff - the latter of which is rather scepter-like and often used as a bludgeoning weapon if needed.

Biography: Not only is Sana a first year, but she's a transfer student to boot! Her family had been dabblers in magic for a few generations and her parents had met in a different secret school at a young age. But they wanted the best for Sana and weren't too happy in how their small-town resources failed to meet her academic needs. Nevermind that she was new to all of it and could scarcely do more than prestidigitation in general. She would have been happy in the laid-back setting of her home town but they wanted more for her, as parents often do.

The trouble is that they needed to keep working and she was left on her own. Putting her mind into her work was easy enough - she was always taking care of something or other - but she was still lonely. When school started for the year, she jumped right in and began a school club. At first, meetings of the RAK club were just Sana sitting in a lonely little room where she quietly knit hats for newborns at the nearest hospital and various clothing items for the homeless people that had come to light after she moved to a big city. Everything in Sana's past was average and boring so it was ironic that her special gift would be a part of a world-wide supernatural force.

Character Goals: Win friends and find her place in life.

Well, we should be able to start soon. We have an even 5 players for both schools. As an aside I have no idea how to handle naming conventions for your characters, whether family name then given name or the western style. It's easy enough to figure out on a case by case basis but Hua Ban Zhu throws it all into the air because any of those could be given names (though Hua is pretty common for girls) :P

Sarutobi National Academy
1st Year:

Hana Naraku, Quarter-demon Surgeon
2nd Year:
Yhorm the Glacier. Icy guardian
Hisoka Yamagata. Ambitious catgirl
Kana. Crouching wallflower, hidden pyromaniac.
3rd Year:
Hua Ban Zhu, Haughty Plant Princess

Usagi School for Gifted Youth
1st Year:

Kurosawa Akio, Warlock turned Magical Boy
Sana Ito, Generous fate-spinner
2nd Year:
Hikaru Asahi. Transmagical Girl
3rd Year:
Syra Shiran. Corrupted Futentacle Girl
Arata Haruna. Motherly Miko

Now we can talk about how characters might relate to one another as I prepare some things for the game proper.

On the ninja side; Yhorm, I imagine, is torn between sitting school president Hua Ban Zhu and aspirant Hisoka. Yhorm, Hisoka, and Hana likely occasionally meet on the athletics track/gym in their respective afterschool clubs. I'd recommend Kana be in some kind of club as well. Doesn't have to be the same as anyone else, but something athletics-related would at least put her in the same part of the school grounds after school. :P I have an idea for an NPC that is a member of the school faculty, a teacher or something. Toying with the idea of an absurdly powerful student council, the teacher might actually have no real authority...

On the magical girl side; We have a natural evil mother/good mother dynamic between Arata Haruna and Syra Shiran. Kurosawa Akio, Sana Ito, and Hikaru Asahi are all eager to fight the good fight, so to speak... but may all struggle to come out of their shells. They each have reasons to be a little shy but also have a lot of reasons to reach out to one another. There's not much overlap in clubs, but that might not be so bad. Arata Haruna is in the cooking club, which may attract Sana Ito. I'm sure she loves wandering the school grounds sharing her creations too, which could lead her to meet any of the other PCs. Sana Ito can also meet anyone became her random acts of kindness could always take her to other classrooms after-school to help the other clubs out. Syra also has a natural motivation to wander around and find more... victims.

Broken

Plus I wouldn't mind Yhorm being the one to lead the school in a 'show' of power to Usage for the first interaction between the schools. But that may not be for a bit.

I guess the big question re: the Student Council's power is what kind of school Sarutobi National Academy is. If it's a normal school that happens to have become a ninja training ground, then absurd levels of student power make a lot of sense. If it's a school for training ninjas, our teachers should have some degree of power and authority on their own.

Of course, it's possible that even a ninja training school might have delegated absurd powers to the student council in order to let the faculty look after more esoteric pursuits (i.e. that whole 'fighting demons' thing). Or for Sarutobi to look like a normal school run by ninja students, when in fact the teachers are simply better at concealing the fact that they are ninjas.

When everything is subterfuge and magic powers, the sky's really the limit on how deep the secrets can go. Why, the true master of the school might even be the little bald wrinkly smiling man who sweeps the floors!

Inerrant Lust

...and who peeps on the girls' locker rooms, if we're gonna go full on anime tropes. ;)

Yeah, I'm thinking the central conflict is, naturally, that demons exist and must be subjugated. Within Sarutobi, there's a contentious student council succession in which Hua Ban Zhu is probably sitting on a very perilous throne... Speaking of, is there significance to her being Chinese? :P I don't mind with Yhorm since he comes from 'clan in the north', which could be Ainu- quite 'foreign' to most Japanese. :P Plus, you know, I kind enjoy the trope too.

Oh, err, back to the topic. Central conflict is demons, within Sarutobi there's student council drama, and the conflict in Usagi... well, that might be more closely tied to the demons. Syra already kickstarts it, I think.

This is actually kind of ironic, since my original idea was that there would be some dastardly plot in action corrupting magical girls and kunoichi alike... wherein the ninjas would get wind of it and blame Usagi for slacking off, whose faculty are content to ignore the problem entirely because... you know, Usagi's students are so pure. ::)

But I might end up doing the opposite. O:)

I guess you can already see a big difference in the two schools, Sarutobi is full of strife and 'survival of the fittest', whereas Usagi is predictably about love and friendship. :P

Broken

I would also like to put out that Yhorm is one to like to show off his strength to represent Sarutobis. If Usagi calls for help, Yhorm will likely answer.

I could also give Yhorm a heavy accent, but what kind of accent I wouldn't know since all I said was a clan from the north.

I like the idea of Usagi Gakuen being run by old retired Magical Girl mascots that have disguised themselves as teachers and staff. The old midget of a principal with his huge beard and perpetually closed eyes is actually the oldest and most powerful of the bunch. Of course, mascots as a general rule don't fight; they're the support crew. It falls to the students to actually handle things. Still, their use of proper magic does make Usagi Gakuen a lovely place to go to; the school store never runs out of sweets, the hallways are always clean, and the wi-fi never goes down.

In the spirit of assisting the GM, I'd like to submit the following NPC:

Name: Hisusa Gintaro
Actual Name: Usagin
Profession: Headmaster - Usagi Gakuen
Age: 'Ufufufufu~'
Height: 4'6" (Human Form), 1'9" (True Form)
Weight: 98 lbs (Human Form), ??? (True Form)
Likes: Sweets, Being Cryptic and Mysterious, Getting Cuddles from Cute Girls, Naps
Dislikes: People Who Lack Manners/Discipline, Paperwork, Carrots, Ninjas

Description: Usagin's human form is that of a short, wizened old man with dark skin, big ears, an enormous fluffy white beard, a bald head, round-lensed glasses and perpetually shut eyes. He dresses impeccably in deep blue suit with a bright red tie, and carries a long, gnarled cane with a red gem on its head. Despite his clearly aged appearance, he always walks with a spring in his step.

In his true form, Usagin is an overly large and fat rabbit with a fluffy blonde coat and magenta stripes, a huge fluffy white beard, floppy ears and perpetually shut eyes. He still carries his cane in this form, though it's more like an oversized wizard's staff to him. In this form he prefers to either be carried or to float around on a summoned puff of cloud.

Abilities:
Mahou Tsukai - Usagin is an elder Magical Girl Mascot, and has a wide variety of magical tricks up his sleeve. While most of his spells aren't designed for combat, Usagin is wily and clever, and has no problems protecting himself. His spells include:
-Conjuring sweets and candies.
-Conjuring a mobile cloud that he rides on.
-Static anti-demon wards and barriers.
-Altering his size and mass.
-Being in multiple places at once.
-Transforming into a human form.
-Summoning items from his private sub-dimension.
-Scrying.
-Personal teleportation.
-Hypnotizing normal/mundane people.
In addition, he is a capable hand-to-hand and melee fighter, often using his short stature and speed to his advantage.

Loremaster - Usagin has mentored and supported dozens upon dozens of magical girls over the years and has quite a store of knowledge, both about magic and about being a good magical girl. Of course, the challenge is wrangling it out of him...

All The Shiny Toys - Usagin owns a special sub-dimension filled with ancient tomes, occult objects and all sorts of other trinkets and treasures he's acquired over the years. Not even he remembers all the stuff he owns. His most distinctive 'toy' is his magical cane, which he uses to channel his spells and bonk annoyances on the head.

Background: Usagin was the mascot for Usagi Gakuen's original founder several decades ago, when he was still young and spry and ready to fight the forces of darkness and evil. While his companion has since passed on, Usagin (under the alias Hisusa Gintaro) has remained the headmaster ever since, slowly recruiting more mascots and ensuring a steady stream of Magical Girl graduates. In addition to his duties as Headmaster, Usagin oversees the Magical Girl training program and serves as its chief mascot. While he initially resisted the idea of allowing boys into Usagi, his faculty have 'convinced' him (through sheer force of numbers) to allow male candidates into the program.

Personality: When they first meet Usagin (usually in human guise), most people think he's a harmless, chipper, eccentric old geezer. This is (mostly) a ruse. While he is quite pleasant, Usagin is also clever, quick-thinking and more than a little devious. He's often a step or two ahead of most people, which becomes unsettling for some people when they realize what he's manipulated them into. Usagin is a very 'hands off' Headmaster, viewing mundane work as supremely boring and preferring to focus on his work with his magical girl students. While an excellent teacher, Usagin does not suffer foolishness or disrespect lightly, and his assignments are often taxing at best. Those under his tutelage have learned to dread his distinctive 'Ufufufufufu~' laugh.

Or perhaps there's a veneer of love and friendship over a thick layer of mean-girl attitudes, clique-on-clique cattiness and Queen Bee popularity games? The more powerful/impressive/beautiful the magical girl, the more likely they are to have sycophants/fanboys.

Side note, I'm fine with pushing Hikaru into the RAK club at Usagi. Hooray for hero club! You too can be a hero!

Just an idea on how Sana might get along with the others...

Yhorm - Oddly enough I could really see my girl admiring him. He's very impressive and dedicated.
Miyami Nakamura - She is a scary lady. I think she would really put Sana off before long.
Mia Angelo - Oh my god she's adorable. Unlimited Bubble Works? Really?! XD Sana would adore her... and be somewhat jealous.
Kana - I could see these two getting along although Kana's temper might make things touchy sometimes. Their names rhyme... which is fun.
Arata Haruna I really hope these two can be good friends. Sana will be attending cooking club a lot and she loves to eat. Haruna is good natured and Sana might become very protective of her as well.
Syra Shiran Oh my god...
Hisoka Yamagata - It would likely be one of those situations where they would get along if they really got to know each other. Although it's less likely that they might have that opportunity.
Hikaru Asahi - Yay! Another awkward student at Usagi! They don't really have the same hobbies but I could see them getting close although he's withdrawn so she may not get to interact with him as much as others? Shyneon is truly outrageous and there's nothing to dislike but she might end up being a bit over the top for Sana.
Hana Naraku - She is way cool. If Sana ever spent any real amount of time around her she would be fascinated in spite of their being on opposing teams.
Kurosawa Akio - Like it or not these two are probably going to see a lot of each other (same school and year) At first sight of his special abilities Sana might be wary of him. There's a lot I'm unsure of as to their interaction. It might just have to been seen.
Hua Ban Zhu is a whirlwind of determination and activity. Attitudes might change throughout time and a lot of Sana's opinion of her might depend upon their first few meetings.

You can see Haruna as being at the forefront when it comes to interschool contests, having a competitive streak when it comes to such events.

I'm also thinking that the weapons of her avatar might shift and change over time, even have the ability to transform her into a being beyond 100 meters tall to fit actual 460mm cannons.

(Of course, when she gets that tall with a miniskirt...)
