Can't access site
« on: June 20, 2013, 03:50:58 AM »
I have a problem accessing elliquiy.com/forums at home. Each time I try, regardless which browser, regardless if firewall is on or not, if wi-fi or cable I get a time out each time I try access the site and the site can't be loaded.

If I use my phone over WI-FI same problem, if I use 3G no problem or from anywhere else.

I did try to use Google DNS instead of the normal set ones but that didn't help at all.

So what do I do. As from what I can understand my IP has blocked the site or reduced the bandwidth to it which is actually not legal in Sweden to do. Well unless the site have been placed in the child pornography filter Sweden uses but if it had I should be moved to the police warning page.

Have you tried using the secure site of Elliquiy?

Lord of Shadows, can you provide a traceroute to Elliquiy from your home location? I'm curious to know exactly where the connection is dropping off, or dying. If possible, can you try pinging Elliquiy to see if there's a response?

The commands are two separate ones.

Windows
Open the Start menu, and do a search for cmd. It will open up a command prompt window.
You can also find the command prompt window from START > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
It's usually easiest to copy-paste the results straight here, rather than doing a screenshot.

Code: [Select]
ping -n 10 174.34.157.162

tracert 174.34.157.162

Mac/Linux
Open up the terminal.

Code: [Select]
ping -c10 -q 174.34.157.162

traceroute 174.34.157.162

To me, it sounds like you're being blocked through your network, which would explain why you're not able to reach Elliquiy through your home internet service but are able to reach Elliquiy through your phone's 3G network. That's just speculation, though - providing network diagnostics should help us narrow it down, at least.

It would really be best if you could get the complete results as they would appear from your computer. Maybe copy it into a text file and email it to yourself, and then access the file from your phone and copy/paste it here?

Or for privacy purposes, you could even email the file(s) directly to a staff person and let them know that it's troubleshooting for this thread.

Tracert should be giving you a series of different hops, like the kind shown here

Well, that's interesting. It looks like you're able to reach the server/Elliquiy (ping), and your connection isn't getting dropped anywhere and makes it all the way to Elliquiy (traceroute). So it doesn't seem like a connection issue...

Seems a bit strange to ask this now, but have you tried power cycling all of your network hardware? (Modem/gateway/router/switch, etc.) If you haven't, it probably wouldn't hurt, and if you have, please continue reading.

I poked around a bit and saw elsewhere that someone fixed the problem by increasing their max MTU. However, it seems like a pretty excessive kind of solution/problem. I would definitely check your firewall, antivirus, software-side stuff (browsers in particular) before looking into changing your MTU.

At this point, I'm at a bit of a loss - like I said, it's a bit beyond what I know ???. Are you experiencing this kind of issue reaching other websites? What browser versions, OS versions, etc. are you using?

Do you use any anti virus programs? I've had a similar problem with another site once and it turned out that the anti virus software that I was using then had for some reason added the site to a blocked urls list.

One thing.

Is the welcome page and the forum page on same server? Because the welcome page I can barely reach. The forum page - time out.

These may be silly suggestions.

1.  Have you tried using a different browser?  IE instead of Firefox, or Google Chrome?

2.  Have you tried a different computer at home to see if it's a machine specific problem?

3.  If you're going in over WiFi to your router, have you tried connecting with an ethernet cable instead?

I started with different browsers. Then cleared cache, then I tried using my iPad connected with wifi so in my conclusion this is something new. Restarting router don't help.

Only way to get access is through 3G on my phone.

Sounds like you are excellent at troubleshooting and have methodically removed potential problems.

What about just making a phone call to your ISP and asking them for help?

An update on this. According to my ISP they are not allowed to tell me if they limit access to any sites or services so I am guessing they are but since they don't want bad press they are not saying neither.

So it would seem that was the last angle I could check.

It's because the front page caches for a crazy long time, the forum doesn't.

If you can traceroute to elliquiy.com, then something on your end is interfering with http/https traffic to Elliquiy proper.

I've been asked by a partner if anything has changed in the IP address since the site went down yesterday? He can access W.E.T but not elliquiy.  Thanks

The IP address has not changed.  What sort of behavior is he seeing?
