Okay... the episode hasn't even finished and I have decided I'm going to enjoy the spectacle without fretting over being ahead of the events in the book. There's simply too much that is either different or not there at all.

... are we to believe that their delivering the bones of Ned Stark to Riverrun in a time correlating to a time a party to liberate Jaime Lannister arrived is just... chance?

In a book where things just don't happen by chance or luck?

Tyrion had the bones sent to Riverrun. Can't find where it's said in the book, but certainly by Clash of Kings.
Edit: Here's a summary of the chapter: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/A_Clash_of_Kings-Chapter_25

Jouzi has it right - Tyrion sent the bones to Riverrun (not Renly's camp) in the hopes of freeing Jaime. However - the books do not specify if the bones ever make it back to Winterfell. Cat asks Hallis Mollen to take them back to Winterfell...

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
however, the Ironborn took Moat Cailin. Add in that there is someone who vowed never to allow his bones to be buried in Winterfell.
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Not to mention that Winterfell is burnt down and deserted.

LOL very wise. I am trying hard to remind myself to just enjoy the show and not go "wth!?" every time something not in the books, or something portrayed differently than the books, happens. I still like how well HBO is doing with it. Just wondering what they are going to do when they get through the currently published books... which leads me to beg GRRM to finish Winds of Winter before 2015.

Well, he has a lot of time to do it, then, considering he had ~ 100 pages by June/July last year. ;D

I've read somewhere that in retrospect he thinks he should have made all the children a few years older from the beginning as the books were originally planned only as a trilogy and their expanding put the children through ordeals not realistic/expected/viable for such young children (here I think he specifically means Arya and Daenerys, but likely Robb also, and probably Jon). It makes me wondering if he's re-working the story the way he thinks it should have unfolded from today's point of view.

I suspect that all of them get at least their 'share' in some fashion or another lol. Just some get more than their share and some don't get enough in my opinion.

At one point I was trying to guess who would make it to the end of the series alive, but I gave up on that cause GRRM has a bad habit of proving me wrong lol. I do so hope Tyrion makes it though. Smartest one of the whole damn lot of 'em.

I can't wait to see how Theon is portrayed as Reek.

Also, during an HBO special on Game of Thrones, GRRM mentioned that Tyrion is his favorite character of all.  So, if there's any character that GRRM is least likely to kill off, it would be Tyrion.

...then again, you never know...

I don't think he'll kill Tyrion, but I don't think he'll shy away from making his life a misery either.

Also, now that I thought of it, I think we won't see Vargo Hoat at all. :'( Seeing how they skipped over Roose Bolton as well and given the fact that The Mountain that Rides (Gregor Clegane) was re-cast for this season, I think some of Roose Bolton will go to Tywin and Vargo will go over to the Mountain, so that they get more screen time and interaction.

No "thappireth" :'(

I wanted to ask the book readers, is A Dance with Dragons a one book or is it two like Storm of Swords?

The paperback is in two volumes, for the same reason. ;)

Also, as an aside, the whole setting of Dany's arrival to Qarth was one of the most WTF moments of the last episode. I mean, why?? There's a BIG distance between grovelling and threatening to shut her out, and the switch made no plot-wise sense at all. *headscratch*

PS: The two-volume edition is actually the trade paperback. Next year, when the mass market paperback comes out, I bet there will be a single-volume edition, although it will involve either onionskin paper or tiny print (or both).

I had three WTF moments in the last show - Dany's arrival to Qarth, Joffrey with the whores and Baelish in Renly's camp lol.

My biggest WTF moment so far is Rakharo's death.

Not. Supposed. To Happen.

Yeah, I scratched my head a lot too with the arrival to Quarth. But truth be told, they have to make it happen somehow. And since they skipped the whole Vaes Tolorro, it only made sense. I mean... Dany didn't open her gates in Vaes Tolorro when the three people from Quarth came with one of her kos (I don't remember which one was it) and they saw the dragons on the ramparts, they weren't shut in their cages. My guess is they will skip Mereen and Dany will go straight for Astapor from Quarth, combining what happened in Mereen and Quarth into one city.

I was more concerned how out-of-character behavior it was for Dany to plead, emotionally blackmail and then to threat. That was Viserys, right there.

I don't think onionskin paper makes sense for paperback - it's too fragile in too fragile a cover. :-\

Also! My brother and I have agreed that Lord Tywin Lannister is a Vulcan disguised amongst the people of Westeros. Consider...

- Tall and lean? Check!
- Never smiles? Check!
- Cold logic before feelings? Check!
- Sharp wit? CHECK!
- Pointy ears? No, of course not - surgically altered by Vulcan doctors. (Then again, would you really be so surprised of that in a family where one child is a dwarf with mismatched eyes and the other two engage in an incestuous relationship for decades?)

Furthermore - since Vulcans cannot crossbreed with Humans, his children were genetically altered and planted into Lady Joanna's womb. That explains why Cersei and Jaime are twins (less work) and a fault in their DNA their affection for one another. Genetical engineering failure also caused Tyrion to be so deformed (someone should really fire that doctor, seriously), whereas Lady Joanna was removed to keep the secret. It also explains why Cersei and Jaime have children together without difficulty, whereas Cersei was not able to bear Robert a single offspring, nor has Tyrion gotten any of his whores with child.

Thank you for your attention. ;D

Ahh found a flaw in that theory... it's in bold. Cersei did have one child of Robert's. She claims the child died of fever though there is speculation she killed the child out of her hatred for Robert.

I thought she miscarried? Goes to google... ;D

Quote
She reveals to Eddard Stark when he discovers the truth about her childrens' parentage she was pregnant with a child of Robert's once, but she had the child aborted out of hatred for her husband. In the TV series however, she says it to Catelyn Stark instead of Eddard and that the child died of a fever shortly after birth (most likely the babe smothered by Cersei).

She loved him right up until their wedding night, when he got piss drunk and called her Lyanna. After that, she couldn't bear him.

Do you guys think Sansa will have a new dress for the wedding or will she be wed in the dress that she seems to wear always?

Consider...

Season 1, Episode 8
THE POINTY END
Season 1, Episode 9
BAELOR
Promo photo, but taken from Season 2 Episode 4
GARDEN OF BONES

I know that she has a different dress when Joff shows her Ned's head, she also wears it in the first episode of second season when Joff tries to kill Dontos and Tyrion arrives...

Jim, would you please instruct our Chief Science Officer to mind his exoastrology and leave exobiology to doctors? Humans have iron-based blood and Vulcans (and Romulans) have copper-based, that's why it appears greenish, not red. They have very different physiology; the insides of their bodies are very different, despite being similar on the outside (according to T'Pol). They cannot crossbreed without some serious genetic engineering, as manifested in Trip Tucker's and T'Pol's daughter (which failed and the child died).

;)

As I recall from my reading of Sarek, getting close to two decades ago, Sarek and Amanda had medical help to conceive. So yes, it is possible, but not without outside assistance. Genetic engineers and fertility doctors and high-risk specialists and the like.

Interesting note on blood color: I was told many, many moon ago, that human blood is actually blue (thus the color of the veins visible in wrists and elbows and the like), but turns red when it's exposed to oxygen. I don't know how accurate this is, but that's what I was told by, I believe, a medical professional.

ETA: Those are all different dresses, in similar styles.

They are all the same dress with embroidered dragonfly (?) on the left shoulder and right hip, similar for the lilac/pink one, it has the same embroidery on the nape and down the spine.

Interesting about blood, though. :-)

I am not a professional, nor am I trying to prove you wrong, but:

Red Blood Cells... function: to distribute oxygen through the body... Hehe.

Actually, the way I learned it: you have red AND blue veins, the red ones going to every cell/limb/part of your body, rich in oxygen, the blue veins return to your heart.
