The Church of the Sacred Union - Resurrection

The Church of the Sacred Union is a big board, free-form group set in the modern world.  It follows the story of a religious cult, cut off from the modern world in their compound, that believes in the sacred divinity that comes from wedding brother and sister together in holy union. 

This group has been around before, but it is in the midst of a relaunch and reboot, following (for the most part) a brand new cast of characters and a completely new story line that will threaten to destroy the Church that's been standing for over two hundred years.  In the aftermath of a plague that saw the rural farming communities devastated and the town sealing itself off to protect the citizens that live there, a deep seeded feud is beginning to erupt into chaos and bloodshed.

Players can play as members of the faith of any gender or sexuality, however, please keep in mind that this is based around a very conservative religious sect, and they won't be a very welcoming group.  Players can choose between members of the faith, or claimed captives - people who have been abducted, tortured, and forced into the life and society of the Church.

Though this is set in an extreme setting, it does not mean your character has to be involved in extreme elements. Having it set in Extreme allows writers and myself the maximum amount of creativity and freedom in story telling.
This group utilizes a tagging system that is required for each post, sparing people from seeing things that they are uncomfortable with.

In terms of story and plot, this group, due to it's size, focuses on game-wide events, rather than character-specific events.  It's up to you to craft your character's story and their own little plots and stories set against the backdrop of what's going on in the world around them.  Use the world and other characters to shape your character and their journey through the Church of the Sacred Union.

I wasn't aware of the first game but having just read through all the information this sounds like an amazing setting I'd love to be a part of. I'm interested in creating an old guard traditionalist & doctor.

A couple of questions: This new plague, is it a localized event, or did it cause significant destruction to the rest of the outside world?

Secondly, how are new converts to the Church married, assuming they arrive alone and thus without a female relative? How common are captives vs unmarried women born into the church? I'm considering playing someone now in their late 40s/50s, who was admitted into the church in their 20s, decades before the story begins. Thus he would most likely have an established wife/family, but with either a captive or free woman with no male relatives. However I'm happy to change that idea if it doesn't work well with the setting.

I thought I would throw my character idea and face claim (should it not be in conflict with an older character returning, of course.) I have messaged Gnothi and am still discussing the idea with her, but here is something very basic in hopes that she could possibly inspire people to have scenes or connections with her.

Face Claim: Sarah McDaniel

Born with Heterochromia iridium, a rare pigmentation 'disorder' of the eyes that makes one eye brown and the other a bright blue, her parents believe she is possessed or at least 'touched' in some way by the devil. Her childhood was very brutal and abusive, coming from a family who is very backwards, highly religious (but the type that turns and twists their religion to suit them and their needs) and very against technology. She would have been born and raised away from the outside world, only seeing the Church with her family (as they go every chance they get) and without any friends or meaningful connections (she would most likely be home schooled.) She would be very docile and accepting of this fact, seeing as she was raised with it for so many years, and it would be very core to her character.

This part is still in talks, but I basically want her to have been sent to the town when she was around 16/17, to live with an aunt and her husband (and other family most likely) in order to be closer to the Church and closer to God in hopes of repenting for her 'sins'.

Here are a few things I'd be looking for, story-wise:
†. Overall, I'd like her to meet someone completely the opposite to her and for the two to fall in love slowly. Someone within or outside the Church, who maybe doesn't believe in God and such, who slowly gets her to realise that she has her own choices and opinions, That she can be her own person and that the beliefs she's been raised on aren't the be all, end all.
†. I'd like some rougher scenes with her (to a degree, see my O/O's.) Some abusive, dark scenes with family or members of the Church. (All character gender/sexuality/ages are welcome.)

Obviously this will all be included in the sheet, but like I said, I wanted to hopefully inspire some more interest in her and also put in for the face claim (if she's available.)

The plague/illness is just a localized event that hit the Church and the areas that are within the fences that ring the lands that are in the Church's possession.  The outside world hasn't been affected by this, and it's just something that's been in the Church.

New converts to the Church, without a sibling, would be helped out by the Church.  Given a little bit of money.  Furnished with a house (the condition of which might be old and in need of repair, but a house nonetheless), and integrated into the Church.  From there, it'd be like a normal life of sorts in terms of finding a bride.  The Church might help play match maker, might nudge a person in their direction, etc. 

There are both unmarried women and captives.  I'll say that there's probably more unmarried women than captives.  I'd say that, if he, or any convert for that matter, is new, there'd be a probationary period.  Have someone from the Church in good standing keep an eye on them, talk to them, make sure they're fitting in, going to services, etc.  Make sure they're good members of the Church.  Could range anywhere from a year to a couple of years.  After that, and after making sure they'd be good and influential members of the Church and it's doctrine, they'd be allowed to take on a captive as their own to educate and influence to the Church.

I saw this game a long time ago and sadly late. I am so glad it's being rebooted. I am definitely going to keep an eye on this.

If anyone is interested in knocking heads together to potentially plot - even just chit chat - , feel free to pm me. ^^ I am currently interested in potentially being a captive or a (attempted?)runaway recaptured, but that's definitely negotiable. You know what? Honestly, my interest has expanded after reading further, so I'm happy to play a captive, a bratty runaway, or a seemingly faithful woman. Especially if said seemingly faithful woman marries her older/twin brother. -snickers.- Motivations of said marriage are definitely negotiable. Haha.

I'd post game information here, but there's literally so much.  Don't let that intimidate you though.  Most of it is all about life in the Church and background stuff.

And like has been stated before, you don't need to know what happened in the last go-around.  This is a complete reboot and new story, with the old story having never taken place.  It's a perfect chance to get started and get involved.

And everyone who has been involved in the Church before is really knowledgeable about the background and stuff, and can easily answer things if I'm not readily available.  Everyone is super helpful, and phenomenal to work with.

Nathaniel Morrison

Nathaniel has a daughter that survived the plague with him, also losing her mother and brother in the scenario. Given the churches Doctrines, that's rough. I originally planned to NPC her, but decided to see if anyone was interested in playing the character first. Open to a lot, and have basically left her a blank slate.
