Only questions I have are how many threads are you planning to have going? And will we, the players be expected to move things along at our own paces?

I guess this mainly depends on exactly what's going on at the time. There will definitely be some sort of "Active Job" thread, that represents a particular lead/heist/fixer assignment/etc. that's playing out in (somewhat) realtime. The way I picture this is as what I'd call 'collaborative storytelling', as opposed to really strict turn-by-turn and mechanics-driven. With me there to do something similar for the NPCs, and spring the occasional surprise, throw in the occasional wrench, etc - and the reason I gave Lily more of a support-focused role.

If a couple people are really feeling it with a particular scene, and everyone else is content to see what unfolds, I say let them run. But I'll still be there to drive things forward when that's needed.

But I also don't want there to be too many active threads going on at once - the more threads, the harder to manage, typically. At least until Big Game status, and 1000 IC posts is way, way off on the horizon.  :P

QuoteI'd wager the Afterlife would be our main hub and get its own IC, since the story will be more about interactions and character growth sub plots rather than a big overarching thing.

Something kinda like that, yeah, but not Afterlife - at least, not at first.  ;)

The way I envision things for a downtime thread would likely be based around some kind of clubhouse/hideout, for lack of a better term, a la
this spot
in the anime. But it will likely also involve specific people's apartments (Lily's struggling and mostly failing to keep a tiny alley apartment/workshop rented, for example) and other various locales around the city.

E staff's recommendation is 2 threads or less per participating player; I'm thinking a couple IC threads and an OOC should be a decent starting point, and we can expand later if it feels needed.

I think firstly we should determine which area of Night City all our characters generally congregate loosely around before we figure out a haunt. It'd determine the level/amount of furnishing and such.

Wilderness Soul

Well sounds like we'll be going where the jobs need us and dependent on who gets along with who. Corpo plaza will prolly be a bad place for most of the group. And the badlands just won't have much work for the group as a whole.

Also prolly want to avoid sixth Street turf as well. Pacifica is a good place to hide out. I think David's group operated out of Northside or Arroyo so don't wanna use that gag.

Personally I think the Glen or Japan town would be good. And by extension I put my vote in for our hangout being the Glen apartment or V's pentouse.

Datawych

I was planning on Lily’s apartment (if it could even really be called that - more like a shop with a basement that she turned into a bedroom) being in Watson (Kabuki specifically), if that colors anyone’s decision at all.

Though that could easily be changed to somewhere else - I went with Kabuki because it and Pacifica are generally the cheapest places to live, and Watson’s way closer to Clouds.

Wilderness Soul

Well if Garth or Vane are the founding members maybe or hangout will be one of their houses?

CurvyKitten

Name: Nicole Cross
Alias(es):Nicky to those that know her best,  Luna stage name, Artemins when working
Role: RockerGal Aspiring / Information transporter for hire to pay the bills

Age: 21
Sex:female
Height:5'8''
Hair:brown
Eyes: Green

Brief: Nicky was actually born to a wealthy family, the youngest of three. With two older brothers. Her father owned one of the biggest companies within Night City. Her mother was happy to have a girl to dote on, and her father, though not an emotional man, clearly treated her as his baby girl in his own way. Nathan the middle child loved his baby sister, and she of course thought he was the coolest person alive. Drake on the other hand held some animosity towards his younger female sibling due to how she seemed to be so easily adored, while he being the eldest son was to be pushed so much.

Thankfully though the family’s politics were lost on the small child, and she grew up with the best this city could offer, in buildings, high above the sky and the horrible truth played out below them all. As a teenager Nicky became more aware of the strife in her family and rebelled. She would leave her golden tower and party in the city below, even going as far as joining a band, and getting into all sorts of interesting trouble. Most of which Nathan seemed to be there to save her from. Her mother was lush that had given up, her father a powerful man owned by his secrets, Drake was lost to his need for their father's approval, but Nathan was always her hero.

One night a cyberpsycho lost his shit within the club she was performing in. The freak attacked and tore through the crowd like they were nothing. His eyes eventually turned to her. A fight ensued; Nicky was tossed about like a rag doll. Pain echoed through every inch of her body, but with one last push of effort Nicky ripped a power cord free and rammed them into the Psycho. The power arcing through both of them, the last thing Nicky knew was the sound of her own scream as the world went dark.

Now most would have expected her to be dead, and in all honesty she should have been, but for some reason fate seemed to have other plans. The PD arrives shortly after the power suddenly crashes for the whole block. They carried her out and got her to the hospital. From there doctors began the long task of piecing Nicky back together. They kept her in a coma for months as they worked to repair her body. Several organs had to be regrown in the DNA labs or completely replaced with artificial organs. Her liver, a kidney, and her heart had to be repaired. Her ribcage was completely replaced as well. The other bones that were broken, and the severe burns were the easiest to take care of. It was her arms that proved to be a difficult fix, thankfully it seemed Nicky had drawn the attention of her father one last time who was willing to put up the money and time to get what she needed. Her arms were replaced from the elbows down with the latest tech.

Once that was done, they woke Nicky up, but soon realized that her nerve system had also been affected by the electrical charge. The doctors did their best to repair the damage, but the human nerve system and mind are delicate things. Her sense of physical sensations was left greatly affected, thankfully they were able to develop a shot to help deaden the nerves and allow her to enter training and rehabilitation. The next several years were spent training and learning how to be a part of the living world all over again..It was then she was approached by her eldest brother. Promised a place with the family again if she were to come back, do as she was told and marry a man she despised. To fall in line and drop her bad girl attitude. She refused, and for it was disowned completely.

Refusing to rely on daddy's money she upped her chrome with some weaponry and some new cyber gear to store information on. She then became an information transporter for profit. And Rockergal that sang from her heart out and rallied the masses against the social élite. Her life may not be anything what it might have been had she gone back home. But in truth she doesn't care, her freedom is worth far too much to give up.

Dream: To make it big!
Duty: She always feels the need to protect those she cares about the most. Nicky was half tempted to become a cop like Nathen but she knew she'd never be able to follow all those rules. So she does what she can on the streets, most her cash goes to others in need.

Fear: To be tortured while her never dampener is inactive. Due to her nerve damage she feels everything much more intently then anyone else. So without her nerve numbing agent she can get overwhelmed or depending on the sensation completely incapacitated. So pain can be to much for her to handle, could completely break her mind.

Fracture: Addictive personality. Be it drugs or drinking she lives the dream, or nightmare at times. In part it is to keep herself numb, while feeling bliss all at the same time. It is the only time she can let go and not get overwhelmed to the point of being incapacitated. It's yet to get out of hand, but only time will tell if her habits get the best of her.

Cyberware:
Doll chip
Cyberlimb arms (elbows down) are specially designed to open and reveal the hidden blades within.
Several artificial organs
Titanium ribcage
(Drawback, is Nerve system: Due to the accident in her past Nicky finds her nerve system greatly affected. The doctor's did the best they could, but she is still left with one issue. Anything that she would feel physically is much more intense than it is for any normal person. Doctors say it is due to the way her nerve endings had healed in a permanently exposed state. It leaves her body overly sensitive to any sort of physical stimulus. Due to this Nicky found getting through the day, nearly impossible to get through a day. Not only because of her over sensitivity to pain, but to anything pleasurable as well. She takes a shot that numbs her whole body. A strange sensation, yes, but one she has learned to live with after remaining with such a state for several years.)

Name: Noshi Nakamori
Alias(es): Noki to her friends, Hephaestus to her customers.
Role:Techie / and budding netruner

Age:18
Sex: female
Height:5'0''
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue

Brief: Noki's story is one that you've heard a million times before. Her mother was a glitter addict, her father was the dealer that traded sex for a fix. Her mother barely knew how to take care of herself, much less a baby girl born well before her due date. Her father wanted nothing to do with her. So Noki had to grow up hard and fast, learned to work with what she had from a young age. Which had her running scams on the net, and fixing up any tech she could get her hands on. If only to sell it and make a quick buck, a buck her mother quickly took for her own needs. When Noki was 16 she was fed up with it all. Most of all watching her mother kill herself with a habit she was being forced to support.

Alone then she used her fast learned skills to not only earn her a living, it earned her a name on the streets for the it girl when it came to your tech, mechanical and computing needs. Taking on the name Hephaestus, not only because it seemed fitting. But also because no one suspected it to be a young woman. It help keep her identity hidden from those that weren't meant to be in the know. She now has her own place, and a workshop in Night City.

Dream:She knows better than to have a real dream
Duty: Keeping her shop afloat and surviving in general

Cyberware:
Neauralware
Doll cybernetics
Artificial lungs with optional aquatic adaption
Enhanced reaction stimulator
Enhanced muscle structure
Cyber thumb whip
Cyber eyes

Oh, great! You were on my list of people I needed to ask about that.  ;D

General Character Update!!!

Solos: Anders, Vane, Garth, Maven, Leif (stealth & mobility focus)
Techies: Lilith (hardware & repair focus), Ning (cyberware & medical focus), Noki**
Faces: Nicky**
Netrunners: Garth (but also a Solo), Noki* (but also a Techie)

Potentially Incoming Characters:
- La Dame En Noir
- Andronica

At this point, I think I'm going to close acceptance for new Solos, before we're any more buried in weapons and cyberware than we already are. :P

**I already PMed CurvyKitten about Nicky & Noki, casting my vote for Nicky -- we're kinda sore for socially-focused team members at the moment. ;D

That and Netrunners! 😮 We've got Garth/Noki, potentially, but both those characters are sorta hybrid-focused. We need our Kiwi, if anyone's interested in specializing!

Wilderness Soul

Lol hey Geppeto is a corpo assassin now. He can totally be a socially skilled fellow.

But we also need a driver, I have a pre-made character in mind. But since we need another rocker and a Net ripper I might be able to work a new one out if no one else takes the spot.

MetroFallout

I think if Nicky gets in, a priority bit of chrome to get would be something like a Pain Editor to regulate physical stimulus.

pdragon

What a thrill...with silence and darkness through the night....

Leif can do social stuff as well.

Oh right, that's a good point - if all of the Solos have different supporting focuses, that could help out with any gaps as well. Though that isn't to say we need every single role filled, either.

Data, I was going to pitch a solo but I see you have quite a few already, and netrunners/techies aren't my cuppa. So I can bow out of my placeholder role to leave it open for someone who might pick up where the group is lacking, if that's preferable.

Lynnette

I wouldn't mind switching gears and making mine into a netrunner instead - It's one of my preferred builds in the game, so can't say I hate the idea. Would make the solo space a bit less crowded. I'd probably not crossover too much - Keep it sensible to "I'd shoot a guy" rather than "I prefer shooting them."

Go for it if that’s what you wanna do! Though I also don’t want anyone to feel like they’re playing the character the party needs, instead of the one the really want!

There’s always room for more netrunners!  ;D

It’s an oddly essential-yet-niche role.

Was feeling a little experimental, hence the monologue-brief. Wouldn't mind switching it over to third person, but I felt it was a little more interesting this way.

Name: Eleanor Rhodes
Alias(es): Adrian Nguyen (Formerly), Ibis (Current signature). Add a couple hundred throwaway names used when she didn't want to get recognized for her code - Usually bad programmer-puns. She doesn't remember most of them, but recognizes her own code and can instantly tell if it's hers.
Role: Netrunner

Age: 25 (37)
Sex: Female, Male (formerly). Both genitals.
Height: 5'4"
Hair: White/pink. Formerly brown.
Eyes: Pale blue. Formerly brown.

Brief: "Militech's little cybersecurity darling, a while ago now, that. Back then, I had a different name, was almost a foot taller, and could barely form a sentence. Hated everything but work - Antisocial corpo-suit, not often you hear that. If I hadn't gone for the moral high-ground, my name would probably still be Adrian, I'd probably still work at Militech, platinum insurance and a nice apartment in the glen, still addicted to dolls and fucked up BDs, taking meds every night for a chance of sleeping. I liked my job, really did, I guess we all like being relied on. I mean, there's a reason the Berserk Mk.4r3 has the reputation of being unhackable, probably my best piece of work. I guess I just didn't like Militech's view on back-doors. The idea of being able to remote in to any device with only a little bit of know-how if you had the key, just sat wrong with me. So I uploaded my own hacks online, heck I even gave the patches directly to rippers if we were on good enough footing, I knew they wouldn't snitch on me. Though, I guess I always expected to get caught eventually. The issue is, there's always someone better than you, and though I felt I covered my steps well enough, another engineer recognized my code, and I never left their radar after that.

So, in the end, I emptied my wallet to disappear. If I hadn't, I'd be dead by now, I guarantee it. Spent two years in Asia, should've just stayed honestly. New face, new body, new personality, even DNA, however the fuck they did that. Voice, ass, nose, lips, tongue, fingernail-shape, wiring, serial numbers. On one end of the spectrum, it was utilitarian, anything to sink below the radar, knowing the tools at their disposal. On the other end, after all those BDs I'd lost my life in, I guess I just felt ready to make the switch, be it out of envy or remorse, maybe a bit of disgust with my former self too. Anyway, I ended up going back to Night City when it was all done - My time in Asia was nice, but something drew me back. I guess there's just no place like Night City."
Dream: In a sense, Eleanor has already achieved her dream by turning into someone else and starting fresh, something very few can accomplish. Get old would probably be dream number 2, though for now she's pretty content.
Duty: Eleanor feels a strong duty towards what she ultimately "lost her life to", namely securing that those who buy cyberware are properly in ownership of it. She has a strong distaste for the types of backdoors her former employer, and many others, would implement to get an easy route into their own devices. She still develops patches and software-branches that patch up security holes in devices, though nowadays for a fee, needing to in order to survive.

Fear: Being discovered by Militech is, and likely always will be, Eleanor's greatest fear. Though she's completely unrecognizable physically, even down to analyzing DNA, she writes very distinct code, even when trying to cover it up, though to a lesser extent. Anyone who worked in Militech with the same focuses as she did back when she worked in the company would instantly recognize his code, which might as well be a death sentence.
Fracture: A polar opposite to many of the edgerunners who've worked in the doll-houses and feel the trauma of it, as someone who formerly enjoyed their services, Eleanor still has a lasting attachment to those types of relationships. Highly sexual, even more so getting to experience it over again in a different body, she finds it hard to even sleep without the company of others.

Cyberware:
Raven Microcyber Mk4: Despite her former attachments to Militech, those attachments are a big part of why she refuses to run their decks. Having failed to reverse-engineer their decks in the past, she feels much more comfortable running a cyberdeck with stronger security like the one from Raven, even if it runs a lower spec than several of its competitors.
Self-ICE: Straight from the netrunner starter-pack.
Ram-Upgrade: See Self-ICE.

Kiroshi Optics Mk.2: Just useful, particularly when looking for access points.

Tyrosine injector: Another netrunner frequenter, helps with keeping a breached network breached for longer.
Heat-converter: Helps a little when hacking - Not a lot, but it beats not having it.
Smart-Link: For when you need to shoot shit but suck at aiming.

Neurolink-plug: Back of the head, for cold baths.
Midnight lady / Mr Studd: Might as well get both - Despite making a full transformation, getting rid of the fire hose was a harder choice than facial reconstruction. Besides, in Night City, you can be anyone you want.

Besides this, Eleanor has a number of other minor augmentations that don't quite make it to the cyberware-category. Changed height, ass, tits, waist, jawline, you name it really. There's not anything left that truly resembles her old self, though she's still miles away from going full cyborg. Still human bones, if a little modified, still human skin or faux skin, still a human tongue etc. But definitely fits the image of a corpo who wanted to be someone completely different. Though she's 37, when making a complete transformation, might as well roll back the years a little as well.

What would be public knowledge:
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Naturally, laying out the facts about your old identity is a fast-track to having your information sold to the highest bidder. With how much is invested, and the stakes at hand, Eleanor has a partial history in the city, though it does have some holes that can be explored and potentially exploited.

According to her history, and what is semi-available in spread out forms of documentation across different agencies, Eleanor came to Night City and the united states as a whole in 2066, when she was 14, and were undocumented until 2070. As of current time, she's a legal permanent resident but not citizen, a deliberate choice to minimize the amount of documents regarding her would be in circulation. Since Eleanor has only "existed" for about four years, the historic data was achieved by a mix of blackmail and bribes towards a government official, with some assistance at aging the document dates.

Due to her status as a resident but not citizen, she's unable to open things like a bank account. She gets around this with an overseas account, currently in South Korea due to their banking's unwillingness to share data with the US. Transferring eddies takes time and costs a bit, but it's worth saving the paper-trail. Telecommunication and utilities are easily enough solved with a fake identity's bank account and registration info. Rent was more difficult, but Eleanor eventually found someone who had a high enough bandwidth connection and who didn't ask too many questions, and crucially was fine with being paid with direct transfers. She currently lives in Chinatown, in a nice (by Little China standards) apartment close to downtown.

According to her story, after finishing high school, she never went to higher education, but instead bounced around doing odd-jobs, eventually landing on working on a startup project that went nowhere. Her skills as a netrunner stem mostly from her own curiosity, and from the senior technician at the company she worked at until it went under. She explains it as having been so early, everyone worked remote and the project didn't even have a name yet. The project died during a financing round, where after trying to partner up with one of the megacorporations, they announced that; while they liked the idea, they could make it themselves, better, faster, and not even give them a chance at the market. Things went dark after that, and between taking jobs for fixers, Eleanor works as a freelance programmer, focused on networking and back-end.

As far as Adrian Nguyen goes, her former identity, he's formally been announced missing for the last four years, not that it means much in NC. Though presumed dead, there's a small bounty on information that could lead to the discovery of his whereabouts, posted by his former employer at Militech, though hardly enough to make it worth to go on a treasure hunt. There's very little implying that he still lives, most of his funds were transferred to a foreign bank account and rent was paid until the money left in his account eventually ran out. Code similar to his shows up from time to time on bootleg implants or mods, but it's largely assumed to just be hack-jobs of his old code. Most of his old belongings were auctioned to cover the loans on his car and unpaid rent, most notably a mint Quadra Type-66 640TS, which supposedly went to an old lady from Santo Domingo who sold it on to a ripperdoc somewhere in NC.

Hmm another Militech cog. Very likely Elenor would know Anders and vice versa at least if he founds out their former identity.

Presenting Kat for perusal and connections:

Name: Katya Vasser
Alias(es): Valkyrie
Role: Solo

Age: 32
Sex: Female
Height: 5'7
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Hazel (left) and red (right)

Brief:
Katya grew up an only child in Watson with a mother who did whatever she needed to get eddies. She had a decent life - pretty subjective in Night City - but she knew how to go unseen, which usually kept her out of serious trouble and with a roof over her head well into her adolescence. She started to love the adrenaline rush of thievery. After her mom died Kat began running with the dangerous Maelstrom crowd for her fix. Then she met him and everything was going to get better because he treated her right...right? Turns out things would get much worse.

He was obsessive. He got her wrapped around his finger into gigs running drugs, theft, and other offences that might be scrubbed away by a pretty face. When he pushed her to get on the street though, she pushed back, and he didn't like it. The fallout was volatile. It turned out he had friends from dark places. He kept her locked up for a few weeks switching between beatings and torture 'til he got it into his head that he would make her obedient. The resulting experiment was brutal considering his amateur knowledge of anatomy and cybernetics, so she didn't last long. After a while he couldn't stand the sight or smell and ditched his failed handiwork out of his car late at night in the Northside Industrial District. She tumbled messily into the underpass below where the momentum caused further severe internal and external damage, compounding her already mangled limbs and nearly unrecognizable face.

A ripperdoc from another local gang was passing through and found her still somehow clinging to life, if twitching pieces still count as living. They took her in for 'repairs' as a little pet project. Now Katya is almost more mods and machine than flesh and bone, sporting a sleek matte black right leg from the hip down along with a matching right forearm. In exchange for remaking her, the good doc' took her on to repay the life-debt in whatever capacity she's able. It was through them that Katya got into contracts at Afterlife to make eddies and release some of that pent up anger.

Dream: Katya longs for a life without worrying about the next mad dash for Eddies to fill her stomach and give her a passable place to sleep. Maybe one day she can go outside in broad daylight and feel entirely like she belongs, putting the merc life behind her.
Duty: Kat feels an immense obligation to past-tense every Maelstrom member she sees... and she runs through into them often.

Fear: There's a small voice in the back of Katya's mind telling her that for every woman who ends up dead in a ditch, it's on her. Although Kat feels she put up a good fight with her ex, she never tried seeking him out to finish the job after her retrofit. She's afraid he'll find out who she is and where she's working now.
Fracture: It's no surprise trust doesn't come easy: intrusive thoughts of her ex make her hands jitter, and she always sleeps facing a doorway where possible but, truthfully, doesn't sleep all that much. There's also no tech in the world convincing enough to give her back a semblance of her old body so Katya is grappling with the immense body dysmorphia and phantom limb pain that lives rent free in her brainpan 24/7. Usually she can quash all that for a while with a mad dose of benzos - and maybe she's acquiring an addiction, but who's counting?

Cyberware:
  • Circulatory System: Syn-lungs, Adrenaline Booster, Bioplastic Blood Vessels
  • Operating System: Biodyne Berserk Mk.3
  • Frontal Cortex: Visual Cortex Support (she loves head-shots, and also there's that missing eye situation)
  • Skeleton Cyberware: Titanium bones, Bionic Joints in her dominant right arm

Additional Notes:
  • Well versed in most firearms, with a particular fondness for her nanite infused Nowaki AR or Fenrir SMG. Up close and personal she's more liable to rip the heart out of someone's chest.
  • Has a geometric tattoo on her left arm to complement the black chrome job on the right side.
  • Mood music: Mohawk - Kings & Creatures
