»  Arthur Staunton  «

Name:- Arthur Staunton

Age:- 498 (born 1523)

Sexuality:- Mostly heterosexual, largely dominant, aromantic

Race:- Human Alchemist

Birthplace:- Lincolnshire, England

Postition/Occupation:- Owner and proprietor of 'Old Books', nondescript rare and vintage bookshop

Personality Traits:- Jaded, Insular, Gruff, Wicked Smart, Judgmental, Curious

Arthur has lived too long, far beyond the span normally alloted to humans. He has tried to end his existence before without success. There are days when only his innate thirst for knowledge keeps him going. The next discovery might be just around the corner -- but probably not. Almost certainly not. He does not suffer fools, which to his mind is the vast majority of the human and supernatural population. If you earn his respect, though, it would take a minor miracle for him to withdraw it. Arthur enjoys his creature comforts -- a soft chair, a cup of good tea, and a book he hasn't read before. Technology can be useful, but most of it is useless junk. The cellphone, he will concede, has its uses.

Synospsis:- Arthur Staunton was born in the Tudor period, in the county of Lincolnshire. He was a child prodigy, bringing him to the attention of the monks of Bourne Abbey, who took him in, teaching him letters. Eventually the abbot John Small, a secret practioner of alchemy, introduced him to the study of the elements. Arthur soon surpassed his mentor in knowledge if not wisdom. An errant experiment resulted in a fire that took John Small's life and destroyed much of the Abbey; it was formally dissolved in 1536.

Arthur travelled independently, studying under many of the noted alchemists of the time. Eventually he accumulated his own collection of tomes and engaged upon what would be his life's work, the creation of the Philosopher's Stone. Considered the apex of alchemical investigation, this mystical formula was purported to be able to transmute lead to gold, grant immortality, heal any wound, and bring forth the perfection from an impure man.

It was perhaps luck, perhaps a stroke of unparalled genius, perhaps divine inspiration. Arthur Staunton completed the formula as detailed in The True Book of the learned Greek Abbot Synesius. It took fifteen years of his life, but finally he perfected his process and held the Stone aloft. He planned to ingest its powder in wine, granting immortality to himself and his young wife Mary.

Fate had other plans. Sadly the formula was imperfect. On Arthur it had the desired effect, granting him eternal life, health and perfection of form. On Mary and his unborn son the effect was quite gruesome. She died in his arms. In a real sense Arthur died that night. In a more literal sense the escape of death was robbed from him forever.

Arthur destroyed the formula and all of his notes, renouncing the evil science that had brought the love of his life to this end. For a hundred years he lived as a madman, seeking his own death in every way possible and being thwarted at every attempt. When sanity returned he found a fumbling route forward, burying himself in books and studies, cutting himself off from any human contact above the purely physical.

In time he found himself in Seattle, the accumulated fortune in gold and knowledge of nearly five hundred years translated into a modest-seeming antique bookshop. The alchemical lab in the basement saw only occasional use, when his boredom drove him to experiment further. The comfy armchair and teakettle in the apartment above was a more regular companion. What does one do with a retirement that spans centuries? What could motivate a man to care again about the world around him?

'Old Books' is known to many of the supernatural denizens of Seattle. Arthur will do business with them all, on days that he can be bothered to flip the sign from 'Closed' to 'Open'. The rare tomes he has accumulated hold many answers, and his own mind, still as sharp as an obsidian knife, holds many more. But some days, many days, it's hard to do more than put beans on the toast.

Special Abilities:- Been There, Done That -- Arthur has seen a great deal in his time; much like elder vampires, but with the advantage of being able to go outside during the day. He has retained it all. Even the most painful memories refuse to fade.

Immortal -- To the best of his knowledge, the infusion of the Philosopher's Stone has made death, even aging, impossible to him. There are still many ways that he can have a very bad day. Ask him sometime about his life sentence in the Bastille. His body remains vigorous despite the passage of years.

Alchemy -- The practice of this philosophy has brought him much pain, but he cannot help but return to it again and again. Arthur can craft any number of potions, elixirs and other concoctions, when he can be arsed. He knows a great deal about related branches of magic, but is not a spellcaster himself.

Bookshop -- 'Old Books' serves a distinguished clientele. The store does no advertising, and actively repels tourists. Within the winding stacks all sorts of rare books can be found, carefully watched over by the shop kitty, Beauregard (Twelth of that name).

Weaknesses and Flaws:- Hermit -- Arthur would like to be left alone, please and thank you. He has a habit of alienating friends and rebuffing potential new acquaintances. (Note: I expect that in play this restriction will be run over in a roughshod manner, much to Arthur's chagrin.)

Stuck in the Past -- Technology is not Arthur's friend. He avoids it whenever possible, bowing to necessity only in his possession of a durable flip-phone, which he will often forget to charge.

Broken Hearted -- Since the death of Mary, his young wife, he has been unable to form a true romantic connection.

Dirty Deeds:- No link; my O/O thread is fairly ossified. Will be working to correct that, but for the time being there's little that's off limits.

Notes:- Arthur may know and be known by many of the elder residents of the city, including Cepos himself, with whom he enjoys a regular chess match.

Oooh! HEY you!

I only wanna be your self-inflicted wound.
It sees you, baby. The friction between me and you.
Show me what makes you human, I'll show you vulnerable.
You bend, you break, you surrender and melt like solid gold.

Forgot to put this here earlier. Have another, but if you want to see what Michael Fassbender is being used for... join the game  ;)

Name:- Jeremy Klein | The Archivist

Age:- 37

Sexuality:- Heterosexual | Polyamorous | Dominant

Race:- Human

Birthplace:- New York

Postition/Occupation:- Head Archivest within the Theta Archives

Personality Traits:- Inquisitive | Intelligent | Nerdy | Suspicious | Alert | Curious | Ambitious | Sarcastic

Synospsis:- Born in Queens, New York, Jeremy Klein was a relatively normal person growing up. He had a mother and father who loved him. They didn't get divorced and never cheated on each other. All in all he had a happy life growing up in Queens. However, that all changed when he went to college. Studying at the University of Washington while seeking a Library Sciences degree, Jeremy had every intention of becoming a librarian and a researcher. Unfortunately for him, some bemused trickster demon decided to slip a book into his cart as he worked the Library at U of W that shouldn't be in mortal hands.

The book, helpfully disguised as a Security Camera Instruction Manual for the Library. Curious Jeremy read the book and began to see pictures of himself in it, images of him that were very real looking, but seemed to depict things that hadn't happened yet. And they began to happen. It was only the timely intervention of the Theta Archives that saved him. They discovered that the book had a bit of a predeterministic bad luck curse mixed with a foresight enchantment that would have slowly drawn him into worse and worse situations and eventually have led to his death. They managed to stop it and destroy it, but the help came with conditions. Primarily that he join them and work for them.

Not hunters in any real sense of the term. They were instead a group that studied paranormal activity, objects and people. Independent of any government or other supernatural entity, they serve as a repository of information, often taking statements of eye witnesses and dealing with ways to protect the veil when it proves necessary. It is their usefulness as an organization that largely keeps them from being run off or attacked by other supernaturals. Not much is known about the higher level leadership of the Archives, but there is a Theta Archives in most major cities.

Jeremy quickly rose the ranks within the Theta Archives of Seattle and recently became the Head Archivist of the local branch. He still had to work with a local superior who organized the whole Archives, the Artefact storage and Security. But the Archives were -his- along with its extensive library. It took about five years within the organization for him to fully develop and master the powers he had gained as a result of exposure to whatever magical entity was at the heart of the Archives. That remained a mystery to him and to the world at large.

Special Abilities:-
-- Compulsion: He can compell people to do as he demands of them. Rarely used outside of trying to get statements, this is still his most potent ability with gaining information for the archives or defending his own life.

--Omni-glot: By virtue of whatever magical force is behind the Archives, Jeremy has gained the ability to speak and read any language.

-- Forbidden Knowledge: Sometimes Jeremy just learns things or knows things that he really shouldn't. Far easier on mortals, their mental wavelength is slower, more consistant, but sometimes, occasionally he gets similar flashes of insights into secrets from supernaturals as well.

-- The Archives: Not so much a power, but a resource. He's got access to a large library of supernatural events, phenomena, research into items and artifacts as well as into various supernatural creatures and magics. However, he must go to the Archives in order to do his research.

Weaknesses and Flaws:-
Human Physiology and Healing: Jeremy may be touched by the supernatural, but at the end of the day he is still a human with a humans weaknesses and frailties.

Knowledge Obsessed: A good way to get Jeremy to agree to something is to offer knowledge in exchange. He will take a bad deal if it means learning something truly -new-.

Cocky: Jeremy is one of the youngest Head Archivists in the histry of the Theta Archives and he knows it. This can lead to Jeremy being a bit cocky and self assured.

Dirty Deeds:- Kelindel's O/O's

Notes:-

As a follow up to what I just posted, I would love to have some colleagues in the Theta Archives, if anyone is interested. It's loosely based on the Magnus Archives podcast. If anyone is interested in doing a magically exposed human associated with the Theta Archives, give me a PM or something!

»  Abigyani “Abigail” Costello  «

Name:- Abigyani “Abigail” Costello

Age:- 35

Sexuality:- Homoflexible

Race:- Human

Birthplace:- New York, NY

Position/Occupation:- FBI Special Agent In Charge

Personality Traits:- Authoritative | Blunt | Respectful | Driven | Strategic | Bossy | Pragmatic | Caring | Organized |

Synopsis:- The granddaughter of Indian immigrants, Abigyani grew up with the expectations that she would work and study hard to make something of herself in her family’s adoptive country and she did just that. She helped out with the family store after school and always made certain her homework was done before she went to bed and, as a result, she became an excellent student. Unfortunately, most of her teachers and even some of her friends could not always pronounce her name correctly so somewhere along the line people outside her family started calling her Abigail. She continued to do well in school and even went out for the swim and the volleyball team. After high school she went into the army and qualified for field operations in Military Intelligence. She saw action in Iraq and even in Syria earning recognition from her superiors. After the army, she continued her education getting a degree in Criminal Justice. During her time in the army and in college, she had several relationships and confirmed something she always felt, that she was at least bisexual, but mostly found herself drawn to women. She applied to the FBI and was accepted and has managed to handle every challenge, getting promoted to Special Agent and brought into a unit that focused on something she never even suspected existed: supernatural activity. She was assigned to investigate the vampire community in Boulder, Colorado that involved a missing teenage girl. Her experience with that case made her the perfect choice as a replacement for the Special Agent in Charge in Seattle who retired. The expectations given to her is to keep relations with Cepos on the friendly side and work to keep the Secret from the front page of the news sites.

Special Abilities:- Abigyani is, with all her smarts and training, just an average human. However, she has the following skills and resources:

  • Top Agent - Abigyani can call upon the resources of the FBI and more should the situations warrant it.
  • Trained Agent - She is an excellent investigative and security agent.
  • Dangerous Agent - Abigyani is a superior marksman and highly trained hand-to-hand combatant. She is also familiar with the use of most military grade weapons as well.
  • Intelligent Agent - She is also knowledgeable, smart and with strong deductive skills.
  • Strong Willed Agent - Her training in military intelligence included psy-ops and brainwashing and how to resist mental conditioning.
Weaknesses and Flaws:- Abigyani’s biggest fault is when things go wrong. She tends to take the blame on herself even when it’s not her fault. She is also very demanding of those under her, but she is just as hard on herself at the same time. She also has little patience for bureaucracy especially if it gets in the way of getting things done. That includes the usual “local vs. fed” rivalry that she sometimes encounters when trying to work with local law enforcement. She is also aggressive in personal matters, sometimes chasing off potential lovers.

Dirty Deeds:- My O/Os
Abigyani’s tends to be very aggressive in bed. She enjoys light bondage, especially using her handcuffs. Other kinks include, orgasm control/denial, light nipple torture, anal play, toys of all sorts. (She is probably more open to things than I, so feel free to ask.)

Notes:- Abigyani is acquainted with Mayumi Hitomi from her time working in Boulder.

As promised, two royal pains in everyone's arse, probably~

Name: Victoria 'Vic' Cawdrey. Sometimes Victor.
Age: 323 years young | Forever twenty-something
Sexuality: Yes (Pansexual)
Race: Demon
Birthplace: Dover, New Hampshire, USA
Occupation: Broker of whatever your dirty little heart desires...
Bloodline: Malthus spun her up after death for some delightful indentured servitude.

Personality: Beguiling | Conniving | Self-serving | Vindictive | Impish | Determined | Sassy | Unhinged

✦ Vic is rather fond of that silly human trope about crossroads. She enjoys conducting her business on them, be it back country dirt roads or ghostly city intersections at 3am.

Interests: Dancing naked under a full moon | Innocence to be corrupted | Rituals | Collecting powerful books | Jewellery, baubles, anything precious and pretty | Inciting chaos | Cats | Wearing all black, all the time | Wild Bacchanalian orgies | Whiskey | Cigarettes | Tarot cards and the regular playing variety | The sound of her own voice | Vibing to good music

Synopsis: The honourable Magistrate Galen Cawdrey and his diminutive wife Rebecca took the harrowing voyage across the sea to the New World in 1697. They arrived at the town of Dover, New Hampshire. Victoria was their first and only child born just after the midnight toll of All Hallows into All Saints Day. Rarely in her youth any instance of Victoria not abiding by his rules received swift correction with scripture and the cane to whatever degree suited the offence - suffice to say, she grew up a bright and devout child because of her father's faith and in part due to his important position in town.

Victoria's dearest friend was their neighbour's daughter, Patience Abbot. She was one of the few people Lord Cawdrey deigned to let Victoria spend time with. After sermons and chores the pair were inseparable and often spent their time wandering the nearby woods to sundown, well into the bloom of their womanhood. Patience was the one person who Victoria could trust unconditionally and frequently they were compared to sisters... even if some of their interactions had been less than chaste when they became curious. To Victoria, it was a time of great discovery and mirth, and in her lack of experience she didn't see the dalliances as a serious awakening.

Their deep trust was put to the test though when one night during their usual walks through the wood, Patience confided she had a lover: Samuel Fulke, son of the town's wealthiest merchant. But Patience swore he promised to wed her soon. So without much grumbling Victoria agreed to keep watch over the secluded area that Patience and Samuel spirited to for their trysts.

When Patience revealed she was with child, Samuel denounced her. It ruined her. She begged and pleaded with her father, with the Minister, but Samuel remained stalwart in his statement that he had no designs towards her. Surely she must have bewitched him and planned to corrupt their morally upright family. Victoria spoke out as well though her father insisted she, too, must have been under the witch's spell. The very word 'witch' was like fire to parched kindling in their town as in the subsequent years the horrors of witchcraft wrought disease and famine on their godly soil. More faces of once kind neighbours came forth with accusations to a number of ailments, poor luck and hardship. Not long after on a beautiful spring morning in 1719, Patience was hanged.

So, they wanted a witch? Victoria would deliver.

On the next full moon after Patience's hurried burial, Victoria went out into the woods at night. She hadn't the slightest idea what she was doing but beseeched whoever - whatever - would hear her plea for revenge. It was there in the cold foggy woods that she found the demon, Malthus, whose kin lent their likeness to the recounted tales of devil's familiars who feasted on human vice. He was beautiful and startling in his inky blackness, lush fur plucked from the starless night itself, with fiery eyes and ram's horns. His voice was a soft lover's kiss that carried the promise of vengeance, power, and more. She pledged herself immediately and unknowingly entwined her essence to him.

Victoria returned to Dover the next morning and all resumed as normal for a few years until the Fulke's crops began to fail. Without goods or a means to accrue more wealth their patrons became irritable, disparaging their name. Adam Fulke caught the water lung and soon passed. His wife joined him not long after as pestilence spread through the household to claim the rest of Samuel's siblings. Samuel himself did not succumb to the illness but was left with a rotting legacy. He turned to drink and began to see dark and terrible things that eventually made him strike his head in.

Then Victoria aimed her quiet ire on others who ignored Patience's pleas. But maybe she become sloppy or over confident, because the Fulke's maid survived her illness and claimed to see Victoria in the woods consorting with her demon master. Victoria proudly espoused her machinations while she was chained in iron and carted to the Bellamy river's frothing edge near town. Down to the last moment when she was plunged into the icy waters Malthus refused to answer her. Not until she awoke in the Court of Ruin free from the black and cold, her lungs no longer burning, but she wasn't quite right, either.

Malthus had plans for Victoria. To fulfill her bargain, she would roam the earth in her inhuman body with her magical gifts restored. Entice bumbling mortals and immortals alike into debts that reap fruitful tribute to a sum of his choosing... and in exchange he would free Patience.

Her initial shock soon became burgeoning ego as she gave herself over to the role. Through the centuries Victoria perfected her craft through seduction and duplicity. Numerous unworthy mortals succumbed to that honeyed English accent carrying thinly veiled venom. In the most recent century she gravitated to Seattle and revels in the consistent flow of debauchery that fuels her Master while seeking out many a delicious distraction for herself.

Special Abilities:
Dealer's Choice - Any deal she makes to satisfy a request will be in some way to her advantage. Typically she deals in souls, but her prices vary: your hair turns grey, you can no longer taste sweet things, or maybe you forfeit a cherished memory? Regardless of whether she was summoned for a deal or not, one must always choose their words wisely around Victoria. If someone makes a verbal pact in passing, however small, such as agreeing to meet at a certain time or carry out a task, they will be held to it.
Shape Shifting - Vic can take the form of a familiar as a conduit to see through, especially if she wants to eavesdrop or navigate through a residence or business undetected. This ability also goes to the extent of changing her gender at will to become intersex. Though for the right price she doesn't mind riding a manly meat suit.
Dream Walking - She can commune with a bound debtor or summoner through dreams as well as learn from their subconscious mind.
Kin of the Dark Coven - As a practising witch, albeit limited by her demonic aura, she has a plethora of spells and wards at her disposal with the exception of white magic.

Weaknesses and Flaws:
White Magic - Entirely defenceless against a warlock or witch who harnesses this type of magic and cannot wield it herself. Even a novice could severely wound her or spin her ass back to Malthus' little slice of Hell if they feel like it. Binding Victoria is another matter entirely...
Master's Bidding - Malthus owns her soul and as such she must act as an extension of his Will. Although technically indentured to him already, she can still be summoned and controlled by a powerful magic user and unless the binding is broken, must obey their commands to fulfill the terms of the binding. Vic loves a deal but hates when the tables are turned.
Pure Elements - Vic has a negative reaction towards silver, and iron which weaken and/or burn her.
Patience Abbot - Should anyone discover her pact with Malthus and threaten Patience (or what's left of her) Victoria would be on the back foot with no choice but to comply.
✦ Given how she died, Victoria hates deep bodies of water.
✦ She has a terrible smoking habit (she says otherwise, of course, because it can't kill her).
✦ Literally cannot pass up a wager.

Name: Deimos, Mephistopheles, The Ruiner... a rose by any other name, but Mal will do.
Age: As old as the icy core of Hell itself.
Sexuality: Heterosexual, should you be appealing enough to get that far.
Race: Demon
Birthplace: Hell
Occupation: Mob boss operating out of Seattle. Being a terrible father figure.
Bloodline: The Creator

Personality Traits: Vain | Violent | Cunning | Charming | Selfish | Entitled | Cruel | Eloquent | Possessive | Aristocratic | An exceedingly flowery orator

It should be noted that mortals are an amusement with less status even than chattel in his eyes. He has no designs to help humans even with a whiff of these brimstone rumours about. One exception turned out to be Victoria. That chip on her shoulder is awfully familiar.

Mal claims to be the inspiration for Goethe's Mephistopheles, the bringing of the Black Death, that he was once worshipped as a deity and many other delightful things. Delusions of grandeur? Perhaps. All lies? Not entirely...

Interests: Power | More power | The predictable gullibility of humans | Expensive suits | Winning | Aged spirits and cigars (where do you think Vic gets it?) | Dry wit | Hedonism / low inhibitions | Reading | Rich food | Corruption in all forms

Synopsis: He was always too prideful for his own good. Angry and vain, too, and Malthus liked that. In his youth he was notorious for visiting an array of unnecessary tribulations upon the mortals he crossed paths with. Malthus revelled in glimpsing the fear he could inspire in humans rather than keeping infernal braziers lit with soulfire in the hall of Generals. Clearly his ambition vastly outgrew his purpose as he sought to replace his own creator. Eventually that pride and cruelty came to a head cleaving a great rift between them, but Malthus did not rise the victor. He was sent away from his hellish home, from the moaning gates at the land of the dead to the sulphurous plains where he sparred. Now he had to turn his back in search of greatness. It was on the earthly realm where he settled to resume his need for more power, glory, and most of all fear. For eons he conspired hidden among humans and watched as his carefully laid plans unfolded from their hubris, until...

Victoria practically stumbled upon his slice of devilry. A meagre portal activated through her emotional turmoil; a wish for vengeance. He sensed the power in her and immediately knew he could not let her go, so he did what he did best: wove a beautiful tapestry of lies. He dangled Patience as incentive. Malthus was determined to use Victoria to claw his way out of perdition in the filthy middling realm. By 'gifting' the girl (her own) power he falsely indebted her to him and siphons the tribute she reaps to keep himself empowered. It'll only ever be a sliver of its former glory but Malthus has made leaps and bounds from where he started at his self imposed exile.

At the turn of the 19th century he and Victoria moved their work out west. Mal made quite a name for himself in recent decades among organized crime circles where he can feed off of blood, sin, hatred and other such delectable things.

Special Abilities:
Sin Eater - Mal draws strength from negative energy attached to places and beings. To the hapless ones who seek his services - and the unwitting who stumble upon him - it first appears as a blessing to be rid of a particular feeling, but it never lasts. Instead, Mal siphons these energies and manipulates the source for himself; amplifying a mortal's rage to increase his strength, for example, or speaking a nightmare into being. Above all, he cannot resist the delicious sweetness of vice in any form. Being in proximity of the most depraved debauchery to even a simple liar will empower him.
Immolate - Malthus can manifest scorching flames that acted as an extension of his will, be it for protection to encircle their master or used to lash out at his enemies and set them ablaze. On a lesser scale, he can conjure a flame in his palm or manipulating existing heat sources and small things of that nature.
Mark of the Beast - As his chosen forms indicate, he is the pinnacle of strength, and his host bodies would burn out far quicker if not for the sigil burned into his flesh during Creation. The tattoo both amplifies his prowess in a host body and serves as a mark of his prior station. It is presently a tattoo on his inner forearm often covered by a rolled cuff.

Weaknesses and Flaws:
Validation - There is a small part of his twisted self that covets Victoria like a daughter for he is torn between teaching her yet not wanting her to stray. Despite centuries of scorned exile, some things remain constant. Mal's compulsive need for an audience that is.
Sacred Aversion - As a demon, he cannot interact with blessed objects or treat with people who have deeply rooted faith.
Temper, Temper - Malthus has a problem with anger. He hates playing second fiddle to anyone. His physique belies that he is a quiet beast by nature who enjoys watching his schemes unfold like the unravelling of a tapestry. Yet in the rare event his patience runs dry the slow burning smoulder of his ire becomes very real, very quickly. It is a dangerously volatile temper that always brings bloodshed.

We have a crazy casting of characters (say that three times fast) and the next (albeit minimal) plot event is just about to start. We're always accepting new characters, and have plenty of room still for connections, romances and fun rivalries.

What type of a character does the game need right now?

If you check out the first page, I've added a few suggestions. But we could use more shifters, werewolves. 😁

Thanks for the link! An anti/morally grey character sounds fun. I was already writing one such character before though.

Thanks for the link! An anti/morally grey character sounds fun. I was already writing one such character before though.

There's plenty of room for characters with morals, and they don't have to be human to have 'em. In fact, monsters with morals are a very fun challenge in a setting like this!
