Synopsis:- To say Alison’s family was dysfunctional would be a massive understatement. An extremely conservative, evangelical family they believed in strict adherence to their interpretation of the Bible and even stricter punishment for misbehaving. The parents claimed they loved their children, but very rarely showed it behind closed doors. In public, the family was expected to behave and look like the perfect Christian family, but life inside the Martinez home was pure hell for the children. To make things worse, they would often have an uncle as a babysitter who would touch them inappropriately which eventually led to sexual battery. When the kids tried to tell their parents, they were punished for their horrid lies by washing their mouths out with soap and receiving several beatings from their father’s belt. The kids would often bury themselves in after school and after church activities to minimize the time they spent at home or as an excuse not to be left alone with the uncle.

It was in high school that Alison met Janice and the two became the best of friends, rarely ever spending any time apart. As time passed, the two girls began to have feelings they knew were greater than friendship but they also knew they had to hide their affection from the rest of the world in fear of Alison’s parents finding out. Unfortunately, a prank by some other students resulted in pictures of Alison and Janice kissing passionately behind the school and even though the kids that took the pictures vowed they wouldn’t send them, the images were seen by fellow members of the church who sent them to Alison’s parents. Her father flew into a rage and beat his daughter before kicking her out of the house, giving her barely enough time to pack a small bag. Fortunately, Janice’s parents were far more understanding and took Alison in threatening to file a police report on Alison’s father if they tried to object. Alison was able to finish high school, but shortly afterwards Janice and her parents were killed in a car accident leaving Alison homeless.

For a few months, she lived on the streets of Seattle, occasionally finding a place to rest in a homeless shelter but other times sleeping where she could find a safe spot. With some assistance from a homeless charity, she found a job and was able to rent a small room in a long term motel. However, with no friends and no family her life seemed to have no purpose and she slid into depression made worse by alcohol. Eventually, her depression deepened to the point that she could no longer go on living. She went to the roof of a tall building in the downtown area with the intention of leaping off and ending it all. However, she didn’t know something else was on that roof.


Special Abilities:- Alison is just a normal human being with no special abilities. She has developed a high pain tolerance and is very educated on blood loss and recovery. She is a talented acoustic guitar player.

Weaknesses and Flaws:- Alison’s biggest flaw is her addiction to the bite and feeding of the vampire. The promise of the bite and feeding is enough to convince her to do just about anything. She also doesn’t allow herself to become emotionally attached to anyone due to her experiences growing up. She is also subject to bouts of depression and substance abuse.

She has provided shelter for humans who came into their magical gifts unexpectedly or have been thrust through past the Veil (what she calls the supernatural world hidden to mortals). Partly due of the safety of her wards, and partly desirous to remain unaffiliated unless Cepos requests it, Ianthe doesn't get overly involved in the night creature's scruples unless it comes straight to her dooorstep. In such a case, manners and caution go hand in hand at her home. Ianthe shed allure for a strong jawline and musculature belied by her lean tweed-clad frame. She will not suffer disrespect.

Synopsis: According to the high priest, the timing of her birth augured a boon from the goddess Athena. Expectations were planted firmly on the girl's shoulders but besides robust health and quick wit, however, nothing exceptional came from the girl for many years. There was always a strangeness to Ianthe. A part of her that felt undiscovered.

With only sixteen summers behind her, Ianthe went to the river Elissnoas before a festival. She fell asleep at its tranquil bank and had a vivid dream. In this dream - perhaps in another place - she was woken by a beautiful woman who offered her a drink of water. The bronze cup tingled warmly as soon as she beheld it and brought the cup to her lips. It was unlike anything she'd ever drunk before. Rich and refreshing. Ambrosia of the Gods. After awakening, the vision felt so real that she was saddened to find no woman in her company, but her confidence was placated by the lingering honeyed taste on her lips. Unknowingly, young Ianthe bonded herself with something.

Ianthe raced home to tell of her vision, but her family passed it off as the fancy of her wilful mind. The dream was consigned to distant memory. Then, a handful of years later, Ianthe began to display the 'blessings' the high priest spoke of years ago. She began to see things, and boasted an unnatural sense which neither her family nor the elders could excuse away. On more than one occasion she spoke of secrets beyond her knowledge and divined truths that would soon come to pass with frightening accuracy. There was no denying that what Ianthe was capable of was spoken in the same breath as Pythia, yet with a prophet already seated in Delphi, caution was heeded.

In truth, she was not beloved by any gods but rather a curio to the fae who occasionally mingled with mortal bloodlines in exchange for blessings. Renowned healers. Great warriors touted as demi-gods. In many cases this fae influence came at the expense of driving the mortal mad. Perhaps it was her pliable mind that turned the winds of fortune in her direction when she drank that cup? Ianthe will never know.

At times the revelations that tumbled from her mouth were unfortunate. It was a vision of profound loss citing her at fault that prompted Ianthe to stop scrying. Worried that her blessing was in fact a curse, she left home. In the following years the civil unrest of the Peloponnesian War reared its ugly head and claimed the lives of her husband, three brothers, as well as her father. Their fates were inevitable and yet she was not ravaged by war or, as she would later discover, age. Stolid in the face of a nameless god that did not heed her, Ianthe walked the world acquiring new skills and uncovering vast knowledge under a myriad of names.

Her deep desire to know never wavered, and Ianthe enjoys the richness of her long life despite some of its drawbacks. An anonymous buyer contracted Ianthe - Althea - to move to Seattle where she now runs her business remotely and has subsequently gotten tangled up in the local night life.


Special Abilities:
Hippocrene - She can scry on reflective surfaces to glean a person's intentions or glean where someone currently is like a magical one-way video call. Concentrating on such surfaces allow Ianthe to catch glimpses of a likely near future. There's an abundance of mirrors and polished metal surfaces in her home.
Words of Power - There is a strong diplomatic sense about Ianthe that feels almost unnatural. Her voice is commanding yet calm. It seems like an easy thing to comply with requests that fall from her gilded mouth, especially to humans and werekin. Her goal is to avoid conflict by entreating compromise and reason, however, should that fail...What is the adage? Speak softly and carry a big stick spear.
Warding - Ianthe can bind a location or object against harmful magic, or enrich an area with a beneficial aura. With the right reagents and preparation, these wards can be toted physically: a ring that promotes clarity of the mind, for example.
Polyglot - Having lived so long touring the classical world to present, one would find it hard not to pick up most languages they encounter. Latin, ancient Egyptian, Greek, and old Arabic are not dead languages for Ianthe. In a modern tongue she speaks the Romances, German, and English to name a few..


Weaknesses and Flaws:
Overbearing - Ianthe has lived through hundreds of lifetimes with first-hand experiences of great calamities and even greater feats of industriousness that the textbooks can only guess at. Along with the wisdom of age came a level-headed temperament but also a somewhat arrogant sense that only she knows what's best for everyone. She's quietly judging everyone and isn't sorry about it.
Foggy at Best - The Seelie could be considered lesser of two evils so it is a costly transaction for the mostly-mortal half of the pact. Migraines. Memory loss. Fugue states. These are only some of the side effects of the Fae dipping into her mind.
Ethereal - Ianthe is not immortal in the way vampires or demons are. She has been gravely wounded and defied death, but she still ages, albeit extremely slowly. Her time will last only as long as the Fae's interest in her pursuits does.
Mirror, Mirror - Her divinations are not always sound. Sometimes diverging paths will appear in more than one surface; a genuine smile here turned to a sinister flash of fangs in another visage. Other times, she sees a land she does not recognize and a shroud figure that calls to her. Prolonged studying in these surfaces can dissociate her from reality for a time.

Synopsis:- They grow them big in Minnesota. From strong Swedish stock, the Olafsons of Ely, MN have never been the shrinking violet type, and Grant is no exception. He stands 7'2" tall with a bodybuilder's physique that comes from a combination of genetics, hard work, and clean living. Grant was an Eagle scout by age 16, president of his local 4H club, and along with two of his brothers formed the core of the Ely High School football team, the Badgers. Upon graduation he chose to join the Army rather than going straight to work on the family farm or following up on a football scholarship.

Grant served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, eventually ending his eight years of service as a decorated Sergeant. He was injured by an IED protecting his platoon and received an honorable medical discharge. His right leg has never fully healed, and he will sometimes use a cane when walking. It is extremely rare that anyone gives him crap about this.

Returning to the states, Grant enlisted in the police academy and joined the local police force. There was very little action, although he was involved in the break-up of a local drug trafficking ring. Grant has never tolerated drugs, choosing to not even drink or smoke.

Two years later the family stopped receiving communications from Grant's younger sister Inga, who had moved to Seattle to be a computer programmer. Worried, Grant traveled to Seattle where he became caught up in a missing persons investigation that ended, sadly, with the discovery of Inga's dead body nearly drained of blood. The local city police incredibly attributed her death to suicide and closed the case. Grant had made friends with some honest cops in the Kings County Sheriff's Department, and with their help he uprooted his life, moved to Seattle and joined the force.

He has been with the department for two years now. He's more than qualified for his Deputy rank (Master Police Officer). Although the department has jurisdiction within city limits, most of their work involves the outlying counties. Grant's sheriff, who was never satisifed with the way Inga's investigation went down, gives Grant a fair bit of leeway to continue to poke into the cold case, though Grant has made little headway so far.

Grant has no knowledge of the supernatural. He is religious and chivalrous and tends to see things in black-and-white terms. His sheer size and musculature allow him to avoid most fights, which is fine with him, but if forced into a confrontation he will quickly make an end to it.



Special Abilities:- Grant Olafson is a nonmagical human. His skills include:

  • Hardened Infantryman - Grant has seen his share of front line combat. He is a very capable marksman and capable of surviving in harsh environments without complaining for as long as it takes.
  • Police Officer - He is familiar with police techniques, and if necessary can call on the resources of the Kings County Sheriff's Department, or his other informal contacts in law enforcement.
  • Survivalist - Growing up, Grant spent very little time with a roof over his head. He's comfortable living off the land, starting fires, building shelters, etc. He is a bow hunter and still makes it out to the archery range occasionally.
  • Big 'Un - Grant stands 7'2, 330 pounds, mostly muscle. He's a gentle giant normally but can flip the intimidation switch when required.

Weaknesses and Flaws:-

  • Inconvenient Body - There's a downside to size. He has trouble finding clothes, fitting into patrol cars, and consuming enough protein on his tiny cops salary. He's often broke.
  • Overgrown Boy Scout - He's not stupid, but he will often give people the benefit of the doubt that they haven't earned. His moral code can make him easy to manipulate. He will especially hesitate before acting against a woman.
  • Ignorant of the Hidden World - This will almost certainly change in play, but at the start of his game Grant is completely ignorant of all things supernatural. He has an open mind, but will need to see things for himself before convinced.
  • Driven - If he learns of anything related to Inga's death he will pursue it relentlessly.

Dirty Deeds:- Grant is relatively inexperienced with vanilla heterosexual sex and almost completely ignorant of any other kind. In play he will hopefully discover his submissive side

The Theta Archives- Seattle Branch is one of many Theta Archives that are arranged in major cities throughout the world. These archives got their start sometime during the mid to late middle ages, though none know of the exact origin date of the Archives with sites in Athens, London and Paris all claiming to be the original Theta Archives. Despite this jockeying for the prestige of being the first archive, all of the archives operate both independently and as one unit, freely sharing information between them. An open secret to the world, the Archives is at its face, a library that specializes in the macabre, esoteric and unusual mythology. To those in the know, they are researchers and custodians of knowledge of the supernatural.

Broken into three main departments, it is the archives themselves that serve as the most prominent aspect of the Theta Archives. Led by a Head Archivist at each branch, the archives is composed of Librarians, Archivists, Researchers and Watchers. The Librarians serve as the public facing aspect of the Archives, operating their more open mythological, mundane libraries and serving to distract the public from the true purpose of the archives and maintain the veil. The Archivists are the custodians of the supernatural libraries, taker and organizers of statements about supernatural events and act as storage keepers for any artifacts found in the field. Likewise, they are the primary field investigators into supernatural phenomena. Researchers are responsible for verifying facts of statements, providing supplemental information for investigations that the Archivists may be conducting. Finally the watchers are a more informal aspect and largely made up of field agents placed around various aspects of society to keep an eye out and observe for anything supernatural, that might affect the supernatural or anything that could pose a danger to the Archives. There are some who say the Watchers also watch the Archives themselves in addition to the world and has a general thirst for secrets.

The Security department is the second biggest aspect of the Archives. They have several different branches as well, including a PMC, Security Officers and the Jailors. The PMC serves as a paramilitary wing of the archives and is often hired out to other groups or sent by the archives to interfere when things begin to grow dangerous in the world for the Supernatural or the people who might be affected by rogue supernaturals. Security Officers provide the much needed security aspects of the archives, keeping them in order and protected from intruders. They often end up serving as bodyguards for important personnel in the Archives. The Jailors are a small group that maintain the few prisons for supernaturals that have grown too dangerous for the world, but can’t or shouldn’t be destroyed. Seattle is home to a branch of the jailors.

The third branch is the support branch. They cover everything from the motorpool, secretarial staff, janitorial staff to lobbyists who ensure the autonomy of the archives.

The archives hierarchy is a triumvirate that runs the day to day operations of each library with the Head of each Department serving as one of the triumvirate. However it isn’t one of equals as the Head Archivist ends up being the first among them, Security second and support staff third. They are all overseen by the Head of the Branch, in this case the Head of the Seattle Archives who largely fills an administrative role and coordinates with other branches rather than directly running the archives.
