I'm looking to do a story set in the World of Gundam Build Divers. It is a series set within the Gundam Franchise, but outside any gundam time line. In the Diver-Verse. Gundam is a massively successful Anime series that garnered world wide obsession. Thus developing one of hte most advanced VRMMORPGs to be devloped, The Gundam Battle Network. Players would go to hobby stories and purchase Gundam Model Kits called "Gunpla" and assemble and modify them to their hearts content. Then using these Gunpla they would log onto the Battle Network and participate in various events on the Network like PVP, PVE, Story Missions, Time Trials, Etc. The GBN has a wide variety of activities for players to get involved in. The GBN also allows Players a near unparallel amount of creativity in not only their personal Avatar, but in how their Mobile suit appears.

The idea takes a lot of inspiration from the latest Incarnation of Gundam Build Diver called GBD: Re:Rise. While the series is not complete, it is making me itch to play a game set in the very same universe.

Of the available "Races" to play, there are currently two confirmed. Human, and what is called an EL-Diver. EL-Divers are electronic lifeforms that were born out of the countless amounts of extra data that were carried in from each user logging onto the network. They are few in number, and most seemed to be under some form of protection both ingame and In the Real World. EL-Divers can exist in the real world, but only in what is know as an "EL-Doll" A Gunpla modeled after them in about MG(Master Grade) Scale, or 1/100 scale. As of yet, No "Life Size" EL-Dolls exist.

THe overall idea centers around a group of "Divers" Either Human or EL, that stumble upon a strange prompt, a person calling for aid before another menu opens before them and asks if they accept the Mission.

After that I was thinking moving a lot like the show, or perhaps something like SAO where the divers find themselves psuedo-trapped in this weird story mission.

Personality: Rachel is a bit shy, but likes to help others. She can be friendly once she opens up.

Background: Rachel had always had a passing fancy for Gundam since she was a little girl. The aged animation, and some of the rather bland characters made it where it didn't completely click with her. But she loved "Giant Stompy Robots". It wasn't until she watched Series like 0080 War in a Pocket, and 08th MS Team that she really became a fan. She was drawn in by how the story tellers were trying to make both sides of genuine motives to fight as well as Corruption on both sides. But eventually she "Grew out" of those childish things until she reached 33 and found out about the GBN. It sparked a renewed fire within her and she immediately bought a Zaku II Kit to learn how to build Model Gundams, or Gunpla as she was told it was called. Even going so far as to build an account. Her building talents are extremely basic, and any weapons or add ons her suit has are premade stuff she bought at a hobby store. Thus her suit is not as potent as others in matches. Which she tends to frown upon. Preferring to live out fantasies of being a hero in Story missions. She'll team up with small groups if it is required for a story mission, but her rank often makes her over looked by Forces looking to climb the PvP ranks. Her skills are passable, and consistent. Her style of fighting is consist of Long Range bombardment with her Megalla Cannon and Rocket pods, or in close with her Sub-Machine Gun, Grenades, and Ax.

Fighting style: Close-to-Mid Range Combat is his favorite distance. While he can be competent at long range, it doesn't feel as satisfying to him.

Rank: Fluctuates.

Mobile Suit: UGY-R45 Garm Rodi. Colors primarily purple with a mix of black (think similarly to the UGY-R41/T2C Labrys).

Weaponry: Rifle, Boost Hammer, 2 x Hand Grenades (Standard armaments).

Personality: Rakan is a difficult person... As in literally. Outside of the game his sociability is rather low, often refusing help if he's sure he can do whatever he needs himself. He's had few friends back home, made solely once he opened up to them after several tribulations. In North America, however, he has no friends and has not quite made an attempt to look for any due to a very different player base. Ingame, his personality is arguably worse, where he lets bouts of hostility fly while beating down and wearing on enemies. Whether this is part of who he is or just a role play act, is hard to guess at first glance. However, he shows competence at working in groups despite this behavior, and does not seem to be averse to working under others if there is an established chain of command.

However, there are some signs that point to him not being as foul-tempered as he likes to present himself as. The presence of ears on his character point to a softer side of him, one he adamantly denies if called out about it. The more telling notion, however, is the presence of his 'Virtual Pet', a small AI living in the form of a small Pluma. If one catches him in private, they can find him often smiling and petting the little creature, almost like a dog. Though he maintains a more neutral or aloof stance in the presence of others (however, flicking ears are usually a sign he's pleased, something he cannot control).

Background: Rakan's childhood growing up was far from ideal, but not the worst compared to others. As the youngest of three children, he was also the smallest, which made playfully picking on him come all the more naturally to an older brother and sister. Gundam had been around for quite a while, and the appeal of war as it was depicted in the anime, as well as the mecha that they employed, made it more enjoyable for him and others to watch. However, things really took off with Mobile Fighter G Gundam, which was a different twist on the fighting robots concept. Done in a more competitive format, with lots of hotblooded rage and righteous shouting, it finally drew a young Rakan into the world of Gunpla. While others had started before him, he did not quite get around to it until later in his life.

Following series of releases of Gundam held mixed feelings with him, but he always approved of the mechanics. However, when Iron Bloodee Orphans entered the picture, it reminded him what he enjoyed most about the various series of Gundams: The giant robots and how vicious their fights could be. To this end, his first Gunpla was a UGY-R41 Man Rodi, stock with no real changes. As his first attempt to get into Gunpla, it... Left much to be desired. Time and again, others he met Ingame could easily defeat his machine, often without really giving him any pointers on how to improve, and so often he would isolate himself and try to improve on his own. It wasn't until others saw how reclusive he'd been despite it being a social game that they tried to teach him about the ins and outs. Even his own siblings offered to help him get into the game better, and for once in his game life, did Rakan feel like he had about chance to get into the real meat of the game.

While he had received help, things did not pick up until his 24th birthday, where he bought one of the latest in the Rodi Frame Gunplas, the UGY-R45 Garm Rodi. Feeling much more daring with this one, he wrote down notes how to best modify it to his tastes in the future, while his siblings helped pitch in with their own ideas. While his older brother helped with the armaments, his sister worked on the added details and colors, and ultimately the UGY-R45/G Geist Rodi was born as a concept on paper. With a new machine, newfound focus, and future goals in his mind, Rakan was able to throw himself back onto the battlefield and get a foothold on the game. He found his excitement for the game slowly rising, but to truly enjoy the game, he would need to be somewhere where the population density was thickest, where the connection was good enough to go toe to toe with others outside his home server. To that end, he planned to move around his birthday the following year, promising to return with greater experience and stronger Gunpla to wow his friends and family back home.

However, when the time came and he successfully transferred, the weight of the lack of help finally hit him, and once again old habits resurfaced, where he could not, or rather would not, approach others for help. This time with a personal machine sturdy enough to hold its own and a better grasp of game mechanics, he has remained mostly on his own for the past year and a half... Except for a curious little 'Pet', as Rakan has come to consider it. Taking the form of something called a Pluma, albeit stripped of armaments and with a green eye visor, Rakan found the little creature endearing where others disliked it either for aesthetic (it did look like a bug...) or roleplay (units employed by a notorious enemy) reasons. Despite this, it has become the first friend for Rakan since coming to the North America Server, and often travels about attached to his back.

For now, Rakan has done his best just making the most of his game time in a new environment, experiencing mixed but overall positive results in Player vs Player environments and experiencing the overall skill of the new userbase he had surrounded himself with in other game modes besides. He still operates solo primarily, but he'll often be seen at public events with others, where his notable behavior and foul-mouthed personality can easily be made out from among others.

Extra Notes: Rakan stands at an unfortunate (to him) height of 5'5 in real life, the shortest among his siblings. By contrast, his avatar stands at a height of 6'7, after accounting for the ears (assumed to be a mild height complex). In addition, Rakan possesses a personal virtual pet ingame, which has assumed the form of a small scale Pluma featuring none of its weapons. It communicates with little animatronic hisses and chirps like an actual insect, but in its green visor eye, one can see words flash everytime it makes noise attempting to speak to others.

EDIT: Sheet done but had to revise it after realizing what Mac meant by 'base model'. So now it's a stock Garm Rodi for now, just with a different color.

Fighting style: Under most circumstances, she concentrates on mid-to-long range assault and bombardment and general suppressing fire for allies. By tricking enemies into believing she's only competent at range, she lures them close, only to have them restricted through use of Rocket Anchors, Heat Rods, or other restricting weapons to shoot them with imputiny or else throttle them.

Mobile Suit: GAT-X105E Strike Gundam E

Weaponry: Standard armaments, though exchanges the 'Shorty' Beam Pistols for a pair of 'Zastava Stigmate' Beam Submachineguns, complete with a pair of 'Romteknica' Beam Knives as bayonets.

Personality: Naomi has something of a pleasant, relaxed disposition that leaves her with a sense of enjoyment of most anything she puts her mind to, from daily work to battles in GBN. While far from anything resembling a proper older woman in her years, she tends to act with a sense of maturity mimicking her peers. However, she tends to have a playful side of her own, a reminder from her caretaker that she has a new life now and she should enjoy it to its fullest. It takes a great deal of duress to force her into a more displeased state, but it is definitely possible, as such an occasion has only occurred once in her life. Her personality is said to become absolutely cold and merciless in such an event.

Background: At first discovered as a rogue AI in the system , Naomi had the fortune of chancing upon a helpful player of GBN who sought to give her a pleasant experience adjusting to the world as he did, starting with suggesting an ideal Gunpla for her. Initially discovering he was a bit reclusive in life, when it came to GBN, he could simply be friendly and helpful to others, and this proved doubly so for the entity who had no knowledge of the outside world and could only judge based on data ingame. However, not all interactions proved enjoyable for Naomi or her friend, as an attempt to get her into trying out group content for Force recruitment became an attempt to farm her friend and her for Diver points.

The end result was... Unexpected, with Naomi ruthlessly destroying three diffeet machines after they had defeated her friend. After this point, she went into hiding and left her friend alone for some time, thinking he would not want to continue helping her now that she had done something so mean. A month slowly passed, where she simply watched other players interactions, wanting to make sense of why people would be so heartless as to harm other's enjoyment of the game purely for their own gains, but she could not come to any sort of answer on the subject.

In recent times, her friend had managed to reestablish contact with her, after making a request to management to help her when he could not. She was given a choice of staying with them under their supervision, if she had nowhere else to go, or staying with her friend under his supervision and their assistance... Due to familiarity, she chose her friend, and soon she was allowed to see the real world for the first time since her creation. Learning her friend was a company vice-president, under his mother's guidance, she began to understand why he admitted to being distant in life but more open and friendly in the game.

Now she lives in the company building with her friend, given her own room next to his, with assistants from the game setting up an ideal environment for her to thrive. Often, her friend will come sound and place new objects in her room for her to interact with either personally made or purchased by him. While she has her own account proper in GBN, her friend takes care of maintenance, upkeep, and modification of her machine according to her specifications. Together with visits from game staff to check on her every now and then she's never been more happier in GBN or the real world than she is now.

Extra: There isn't a whole lot of other details about her, but her avatar in GBN stands at a tall height of 6'1, with a generous figure (jokingly pointed out by her friend Shou that she probably took in extra data before she was made). Her friend, Amagatsu Shou, often furnishes her room with additional minor implements so she can feel a little more comfortable in life. He also often works on custom outfits to give her an ever-changing wardrobe in life, though many of these outfits cannot show up in the game proper.

Fighting style: Souji favors close combat above all else. However, he holds competence at all distances, a common misconception from opponents believing they are safe out of melee range.

Mobile Suit: MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame (SD)

Weaponry: Stock Armament for now. The only change is the swapping out of SD Red Frame's eye cameras for the tried and true SD Gundam eyes. This rather nonsensical customization allows the SD Red Frame to convey a vast range of emotions, from happiness to sadness, glee to exasperation, and more. They also allow it to perform emotes usually only useable by players, such as a myriad of Dance emotes.

Personality: Souji is a considerably polite and well-mannered individual who rarely forgets his manners, even in the wake of rude people. He exudes an aura of calm and relaxation to those who meet him in life, though he is not without his faults. He often stumbles when dealing with situations that could become perverse, and usually attempts to backpedal and try to rectify things can only make it worse, almost as if he were cursed. To this end, he's been called a pervert on many an occasion, much to his chagrin. In GBN it's even worse, as his appearance (looking more like an oni) combined with these actions leave him labeled a lecher, and thus he has a poor rapport with female players.

Background: Souji was born and raised through a mostly humble and simple life. More often than not he was raised by his mother, as his father ventured throughout the world studying art. From a young age, Souji was raised on many things that would help shape his life growing up, but Gundam happened to be one of the biggest influences. Usually it was hard to get him away from the television once a show started, and through diligence he has tried not to miss any.

As an extension of art, during a visit home his father brought a model kit for him to build, one of a warship originally. The craze truly started, however, when he asked if he could get model kits based on his cartoons, and since then he has received and built a wide variety of Mobile Suits from many Gundam series, to the point where his closet has shelves and cases full of them.

With the advent of Gunpla Battle Souji found a new venue to show his stuff, quickly signing up for Gundam Battle Network and making his character. As a sharp contrast to his image in real life, he created a more fierce-looking avatar to enjoy the game, though his personality and behavior often contradicts his appearance ingame. Barring more than a few mishaps, both ingame and out of it, his overall enjoyment of the game is assured. Besides less favorable notions of his being, Souji has quickly become known as someone who relies solely on SD Gundams in GBN, further adding another quirk to the man's personality.

Extra Notes: His right arm in GBN is particularly monstrous looking, but it's purely for looks. It is functionally no different. The sword he carries is also for decoration, but still makes an effective comedic bludgeoning tool for out of combat purposes.

Ergo, as long as you don't try to go too over the top to start, I feel crossing weapons or mobile suits from different series wouldn't be an issue as long as you're descriptive in explaining what was changed or swapped out, and for what purpose. I think the only restricting factor to start is that whatever you choose has to be a base model from the series? Whether that means like a mass production model or an existing prototype/high end model, I'm not 100% sure though.

I opted for an MP model because I wanted to give a little love to a suit I feel didn't do too well in the anime. 

Also, I think a wiki dive could be sufficient, since the setting this is based on hasn't even finished yet.

I don't believe you have to watch the Show "Build Divers" to understand what is going on, a wiki dive should suffice. though I wuold get familiar with "EL-Divers" as they're one of the playable races.

It is open to all Mobile Suits (including Gundams) from all the shows, Including the SD types.

And on that note, I feel I must clarify something that I did not communicate properly. Your Mobile suit does not have to be a Base Model, you can have it already customize.

But your suit does have to be based on an actual suit from the franchise.

You can start out with a "Gundam" type if you wish, and customized. Just that it has to be based on an actual Suit in the franchise. Though I do ask the players exercise discretion an not look to building the biggest/Baddest Gunpla at the beginning of the story as part of the Build-verse is the fun of "improving" your designs.

Example is that Aisha's Zaku II Heavy Arms "Pixie" only optimizations would be the Pixie Pinup on the Suit's Shoulder shield, and it took her hours just to get that on there right. That and adding the MP-80 Submachine gun in lieu of the 120mm Zaku Gun. Her building skills are lackluster so she won't have any flashy suits.

She could also be considered a bit of a "Purist". A purist more meaning someone that likes the "Classic" design of a suit rather than going hog wild in making it barely recognizable from its Original design. So any optimizations she would do may be more powerful weapons, or making her suit more sturdy. Going along the lines of "Battlefield" Modifications.

Mobile Suit: Hambrabi Edge

A Hambrabi designed for sustained travel at high speed. The Gunpla has been fixed to be as lightweight as possible, with the armor strong enough to stand up to the strain of its speedy maneuvers. This Gunpla also sports a bright blue color and yellow highlights to make it stand out.

x2 Heat Claws - the claws have been modified as the Gunpla's heat sinks, transferring excess heat to these and acting as increased capacity to inflict damage.

Personality:
Kamui is a man who lives for speed. He does things with practiced efficiency and diligence, demanding when it comes to things he is interested with. Outside of his interest he is easy to get along with. If he notices someone troubled he will stick around and ask with little delicacy, then offer a hand to help even if he isn't asked.

Background:
While Kamui wasn't a strong fan of any particular series, he followed Gundam because of the mobile suit designs and specs. He specifically looked after units that are capable of moving at high speeds. He has always wondered what it would be like to be in the cockpit, piloting a mobile suit and pushing it to the limits of its speed.

That became a reality when GBN came out, and he tagged along with some friends to help him build his Gunpla. The Hambrabi was his friend's (a fan of Z Gundam) suggestion, which he was in the process of customizing to eke out as much speed as possible. He is known to spend most of his time in the Time Trials, trying to complete various courses in the shortest time possible. This earned him the monicker "Speed Freak" among the players in the sector.

Kamui has been known to be rough with his mobile suits too, pushing them to the limits of their capabilities to see just how much can be accomplished. He somehow has a knack for telling how far a Gunpla is after giving it a go once.

A heavily modified MS-08TX Efreet with a clear design in brute force over speed. It has extra armor and enough modifications stolen from other units to give it a Kaiju like appearance.

Personality: Cheerful and bubbly even in the middle of combat she doesn't plan much instead going with what feels right.

Background: For Cass the Gundam craze never really hit the way it did the children around her as giant monsters like Godzilla were always more her way. As such her school time was fairly normal for the tomboy with sports and studies eating up her time. Once done with highschool she took a two year break before entering college. With all the free time available she finally entered the realm of the divers as while it's not giant monsters it is giant robots fighting each other. It took a good chunk of her savings but she had a Gunpla custom built for her.  The fact that none of the forces have caught her eyes and her fondness for adventures that let her trash bases or other structures leaves her playing solo most often.

Background: She's a scuba diving instructor and underwater photographer that's enjoyed the Gundam craze but never really joined in as a participant. Something that changed partially on a bet from co-workers and partially because the screenshots shared by the Divers drew her in for the varied areas available to them. Having only been playing a few months  she's not well versed in the game, a fact only hindered by her tendency to spend hours exploring and taking screenshots.

Personality: Echo  is a mess of contradictions. He’s curious and eager to explore but also a bit of a scaredy cat. He’s wants to learn more about the humans and their world, is sensitive to people’s emotions but has difficulty approaching others and hasn’t gotten a chance to form a proper team yet. He’s the epitome of politeness and kindness, easily flustered and yet is completely oblivious to certain customs and situations.

Background: Echo is for all practical purposes, on his own for the first time. For the first two months after he initially gained sentience he has been the ward of a couple of kind veteran players who initially discovered him in the game and helped to facilitate his transition to a mobile doll body under the administrators’ supervision to make sure he was adjusting properly.

During those first few months he spent it learning more about humans and their lives in addition to adjusting to a physical body. He wasn’t allowed outside much due to his size and things being dangerous to him. This left him a lot of free time and well that time was spent studying a lot of human culture and wanting to learn more about where he had born Gundam was a part of his studies. He spent a lot of his free time reading and watching the series as well instead of just relying on the data dump information he had at his initial awakening.

Having finally gotten somewhat used to moving a physical body and considered to have enough knowledge to handle the basics of living in the human world he’s been given a small studio apartment of his own with some members of the game’s staff living nearby to do shopping, supervise him when he went out the first few times, and otherwise make sure his adjustment is progressing smoothly. They even set him up with his own terminal to access GBN which makes up the majority of his interactions with meeting new humans. He hasn’t logged on as a player very often but he’s excited and somewhat nervous to do so.

Personality: Shoko is quite the recluse, tending to only step outside to head to the Tokyo Diver Base to access the GBN terminals. The meek geek isn't too socially confident, feeling safer in her apartment filled to the brim with anime merch (particularly gunpla). In combat, she can contrastingly seem very focused them as she fires off at targets from a long range with her GN Sniper Rifle. After all, she didn't binge hours upon hours of her favorite franchise for nothing! However, the calculating demeanor crumbles the moment she is done battling.

Background: Shoko was born to a couple that seemed different as night and day, but just seemed to complete each other. Her mother (Hana) was a calm and collected art historian, while her father (Kaito) was an anime-obsessed novelist. Hence, while the bumbling bookworm was very studious during school thanks to Hana, sharing Kaito's sheer level of love for media was never too far behind. However, she took the most from her mother's personality for the most part, as the bullying in school she got for her hobbies made her rather shy. Not to mention, coming out had been hard to say the least. Hence, while she didn't get into anything too grand for a job after high school, she works as a manga editor from her apartment, sharing a bit of both of loving her parents' passions.
