Hey all.

So I am considering, but am not yet committed to, picking up and running a Dark Heresy 2nd Edition game on here in the future. If this is something I decide to do, then I'll be looking for players to join me who:
  • Love the setting, and are okay with the dark, gritty, brutal nature of it.
  • Like to, and regularly can, provide detailed posts that add to, and enliven, the scene.
Warhammer 40,000 is one of my favourite settings, and thus I'm somewhat enthusiastic about finding the right kind of players for any games I run for it. Despite it's somewhat railroaded nature (being Inquisitorial Acolytes tends to rob you of free time), I'm keen to get a group of characters together who can interact with one another well without requiring regular GM interjection to keep things lively. If this sounds remotely interesting to you, then below are some thoughts I currently have on the game as it exists in my head:
  • The game's location is not yet determined, though it'll likely be based in the Askellon Sector.
  • I'll be using all of the Dark Heresy 2nd Edition rulebooks; I won't be allowing the use of rulebooks from earlier editions.
  • Players seeking to play unorthodox character types must keep the setting in mind - and be prepared for the (likely bloody) retribution that might follow a discovered unsanctioned psyker or blasphemous preacher.
None of this is yet set in stone, and I'm not wedded to anything concrete, but I figured I'd put out feelers to see if anyone is keen.

Tentatively interested. Been looking for a chance to play Dark Heresy, at least.

IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR!

Totally interested in this because I've been watching If the Emperor had a Text to Speech Device again and by the Throne I wanna play so bad.

Also possibly interested! I'm a huge 40k nut.

Just got the books recently through the humble bundle and I'd be interested

HairyHeretic

I'd be interested. I haven't played 2nd ed mind you.

Its basically BC/OW with Infamy replaced by Influence which works more like Profit Factor.

Miroque

Acolyte sister, reporting for duty. For the Emperor!

Zenkai

The Emperor protects. Always.

Malkavian

Seems like this might net some interest after all!

I will only be taking on 4-5 players I think, so keep things manageable. I'll have to have a think on opening storyline before I post something official; in the meanwhile, feel free to throw up some character interest ideas, keeping in mind that nothing is confirmed nor approved until I've chosen my players and gone over the character to approve them.

I can reuse a character that never got past 10 posts, right? There's very little chance he is actually jinxed. A Hive worlder outcast desperado. Not the most optimal combination, but should be fun.

Geld (Gaius Marcellus Servilius) is a simple man of simple tastes. He likes money, and would have sold his own mother if she only hadn't sold him first. With a past thoroughly clouded by frequent changes in living arrangements, there is next to no way to find out where he really comes from, and that suits him just fine. He worked hard to stay unencumbered by ethics or morals, and steered well clear of any religious involvement. So how did he end up in the employ of an inquisitor, of all people? It's a rather embarrassing story - and he'll lie just enough to discourage further questioning.

Otherwise, he's a pleasantly withdrawn, gaunt man with the unhealthy appearance of a chronic drug-user. Underhive gang tattoos litter most of his skin, some made unrecognizable by a self-inflicted scars. He loves money, his pistols, and getting high, usually in that order. It's easy to make him a friend by providing him with fuel for these three addictions. Being a ganger for most of his pitiful life, he understands the necesity of teamwork rather well; his underhive roots show in his lack of respect for personal space and willingness to ignore other people's quirks for the sake of peace and quiet.

Hmm. I've got two concepts warring in my head. First, a primitive culture witch/shaman heading out into the big world to learn the cause of the prophesied end of the world and eventually ending up in the Inquisition (it being both the best place to study the Pandaemonium and the only that'd accept a rogue psyker). Second, an overly ambitious and curious ad mech initiate, who's been looking for ways to get their hands on cutting edge tech without spending a century overseeing a fabrication line before getting a chance to get promoted and transferred to an appropriate branch of the cult.

Cool, So I have a quick idea for a desperado character that I think would be fun for this. I also only own the DH2 core book. So any character I make would only be based on the stuff I see in there.

Anyway, Quick synopsis. A former gang leader on the hive world of Hulee V, She did all the typically illegal and immoral acts a hive ganger might be expected to do, including double crossing what she thought was some ignorant off worlder she was working with to smuggle a very peculiar package off world (She wasn't sure what the product was but she was being paid very handsomely to secure and deliver it), and she figured if it was worth that much just to steal it, she would keep it for herself and find a new buyer.

Long story short, the off-worlder she killed was an acolyte of the inquisitor she now serves. The inquisitor was understandably miffed as a result of the whole double cross and almost losing their package, and before MC knew what was happening the arbiters were raiding her hideout in terrifying force and butchering her entire gang. After her own capture and a brief beating she was dragged before the inquisitor (or a representative) given the option of immediate execution or working for the throne. After all, the now-dead acolyte clearly wasn't ready or able to deal with the seedier side of the Imperium if he was double crossed and killed so easily. But an ex gang leader? In theory she would make a much more ideal replacement. Serving as an expert in navigating team through the dangers of the Imperial underworld. Or just navigating them through any urban sprawls or underhive tunnel networks.

These all sounds good at a glance. I will likely try and accept one instance of each career where possible to ensure diversity, but won't say no to a good concept just because they share a career with another.

Can people send me full stats and backgrounds where possible? I'm only with old concepts being used, HOWEVER I require all characteristics to be rolled and sent to me using this site's dice roller. As well as anything else in character creation that requires rolls. This ensures everything is fair and above board.

My dice roller ID is 66170. If I don't receive the rolls, they don't apply!

Wait, no option of point allocation for base characteristics? Mandatory stat rolling kind of goes against building a character towards a specific concept.

Afraid not. And by concept, I meant more original world and career.

Tavarokk

Whelp. Got to hope for workable rolls, then.

What's the deadline for chargen?

Malkavian

A couple of weeks at this point. Maybe sooner. Just waiting for work shifts to quiet down before I begin.

I could be wrong on the edition, since my knowledge of 40k is more the actual wargaming aspect, but if anyone needs/wants the books for this RPG, you can get them cheap as PDFs through Humble Bundle right now. Core rulebook as PDF at $1/83p.

Not at my laptop so can’t do a detailed write up at the moment but got a trio of ideas bouncing about my head.

An El Quixote like  Feudal world adeptus soritas crusader obsessed with killing demons or xenos depending on which is more pertinent and sees them everywhere. Also has mixed her obsession up with legends from her own world

A manic xeno-obsessed either with due to their tech or biology,  Research station Heretek sage or Chirurgeon

A quarantine world Adeptus Arbites Seeker who after escaping their own world that was quarantined after chaos cultists infiltrated the planet and performed a ritual roots out the forces of chaos no matter how far one has to go.

As for the humble bundle. 2e stuff is in the $18 level

CyrodilicBrandy

Oops, didn't check! I remember seeing it a while ago and sending it to Malk, so I just found it again and linked it here. Still, $18/£14 for everything there is a good deal - if you only need the core you can probably find it somewhere else.  >:)

Getting everything for $18 is a great deal! It’s where I got my stuff, was pretty excited when I had the bundle pointed out to me. ^^

Ollumhammersong

I myself acquired my copy of the core rulebook through COMPLETELY LEGITIMATE means. That coincidentally cost me nothing.

No worries. Thanks for voicing your initial interest!
