The government would call them pirates, outlaws, criminals.  Countless Imperial worlds and protectorates had been raided, legitimate shipping terrorized, cargo number into the millions of credits.  Countless ships of the Imperial Navy, as well as elements of Corellian Security have been tasked to bring these criminals to justice.  The system and powers labeled them criminals, but in their minds, they are heroes, liberators.

Rebels.

These are the stories of Grey Squadron

Interest check and also looking for a Co-GM since I am still in the middle of my Master's Degree and in the coming weeks I have about 40 pages worth of papers to write.  The concept is a stolen Quasar Light Carrier used as a mobile command center and commerce raider for the Alliance.  The ship currently has six BTL-A4 Y-Wings and six Incom Z-95 Headhunters.  The story would be the start of a new legacy within Star Wars of Grey Squadron.  I am also  proposing we do not strictly follow canon as some of the major events which happen pre and during "A New Hope" Grey Squadron is a part of it, such as things like the Battle of Scariff and other events..  I see this being far more plot than smut, but I want to leave room for connections and relationships to form.  I do see this as a group with skills beyond mere flying fighters and having unique skill sets which allow the team to slip into near any planet in the outer rim or core systems to get the mission done.  Looking forward to hearing from folks as well as a co-gm.

Masked Insanity

I am absolutely interested. Do you want to go freeform for this story, or is there a system involved?

Unfortunately my knowledge of Star wars is not quite encyclopedic, so I cannot offer a co-gm role. But I do have a greasemonkey girl in mind for the game.

BlackStone

I can be arm twisted either into system or freeform.  If I did go system, it would be system light where only major events like combat would be rolled and such as I would like the narrative and roleplay to drive the game more than dice rolling.

Masked Insanity

I'd prefer to go entirely freeform, then :) System games tend to bog down in a forum setting quite badly.

Interested and might be able to lend a Co-GM hand if you would like.

Thank you Regret.  Mainly looking for someone to be able to help me keep the posting flowing and also help making sure the game does not get bogged down.

I believe I can handle NPC's if you want to put in a PC.  For me when I am hosting the game I do not tend to play a PC, but handle things such as the senior officers of the ship, and minor NPC tagging along with the PC's.

I am also up for names for the Ship.

Also I am only going to give this concept going a few more days.  Would like 5-8 players.  Less than that. I am going to call this a bust.  Given my tract record not too surprising but still, I hold out hope for a different outcome.

RegretNot

Sounds good if it pans out, great concept.  I was actually thinking of something similar the other day.

Blackjack

Yeah, count me in too! I've wanted to do a pilot Star Wars game for a looooong time!

RegretNot

That's 4, come on, let's get at least 2 or 3 more and we could have a full flight.

Me! I’ve been in a deep science-fiction mood recently!

If you cannot honor a No, then you certainly could never honor a Yes.

Any suggestions for ship name?  Since I want this to be as much as the players game as possible I did not want to pick one myself

Mother Goose One.

Just kidding. I got some suggestions, feel free to like or dislike. Just tossing some names out there. Evenlode, Aster, or Torrent or even something deceptively cute like Snowberry. And if my science fiction lore is correct, when addressing the ship through comms it would be something like "Evenlode One" or "Torrent Actual" or something like that. So add those words at the end of any name and if it rolls off pretty nicely, I think we're in business with that name.

Just throwing some things out to see if anyone likes them:

  • Revenant
  • Basilisk
  • Guardia
  • Sabre
  • Vanguard
  • Catalyst
  • No Target, ignore (Noti)

Caradoc

With the warning that I have the death touch for group games, I'd be interested.

I have a decent amount of knowledge of Star Wars (looks at bookcase overflowing with Star Wars novels).

I have no preferred role, and could take up whatever is needed for group balance: pilot, mechanic, slicer, commander, whatever.
So tell me do you wanna go?

What I am likely leaning towards is everyone has a primary, secondary, and third specialty, one of the three must be pilot.  This will allow us most flexiblity with storytelling without leaving players out of a scene and also plays to the rebellion needing to do more with less.

Also of the names suggested do far I am liking Sabre or Vanguard personally.

I will put up the recruitment thread and by tonight

BennyQ

Sabre or Vanguard fit the bill nicely. Nice liberator, Republican type names that fit the bill for an organization that calls itself the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Color me interested, and I bet I have a friend who would also be interested. I just recently got my own Star Wars RP off he ground but wouldn’t mind being just a PC instead of always the GM. First question out of the gate, what are your feelings on races that can’t speak basic? Like Wookiee’s, Jawas, and Ewoks? I’ve been itching to play a Jawa character I’ve had for ages, and I can tweak him to fit here I bet. If not I can come up with something else I’m sure.

Captain Whitebread

I’m interested with an aquatic character (Mon Calamari, Qualish etc) which would give them a natural advantage in 3 dimensional thinking.

And I have a list of ship names somewhere

I just need to find the right idea.....

BlackStone

I do not have an issue with non basic speaking races per say other than the difficulty in role playing them as not every team member is going to know the language.  It would make for some challenging scenarios in a dog fight where seconds count and the character is asking for help and it requires a team member translating.  That being said I am going to say no to Ewoks and Jawas.  They are far too distinctive and normally on one planet for them to be use in a covert special operations unit.  Any other day we, make the pitch and we will give it an honest look see

Captain Whitebread

Covert unit?

I wish I'd read that before I made a character who is an 8' walking shark.  He doesn't exactly blend in...

I see we both posted our characters at the same time with medical skills. I could alter and withdraw mine if having two on the team is an issue :-)

Captain Whitebread

When has it ever been an issue to have too much healing?
