Slightly late as it happened earlier this year but I just learned of it and have to share.

The Göteborg, a replica of an old Swedish East India trading vessel responded to a small sailing craft in distress off the coast of France and carefully towed her to safety.

in the words of the sailors on the sailing boat: "This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?"

it is a cute read. The sailors on the small ship being rather stunned seeing this old ship emerge to rescue them. :)

So, apparently leprosy is on the rise in Florida.

While the disease (also known as Hansen's disease) isn't quite the Old Testament plague that its reputation implies (it's quite treatable, although nerve damage can't be reversed - no bell-ringing or chants of 'Unclean' required), it's certainly a WTF headline.

Armadillos are a known (if uncommon) vector for leprosy, and with the weather being how it is, they're probably taking shelter under more peoples' homes.

They are actually the only animal documented to have a two-way transmission of leprosy with humans.  It's been found in a couple of other species such as chimps and red squirrels, but neither of those species has been shown to transmit the bacteria to humans.

Found an article by the New York Post that stated Trump was irked by the Magistrate Judge yesterday when he was called 'Mr. Trump' rather than 'Mr. President'.  The omission was caught by many journalists.

Who could have predicted this highly predictable outcome?  Dude has millions of followers, announces that he's going to be giving away some highly desirable stuff, and doesn't bother to notify the city that he's doing this.

I really find it mind-boggling that he described the chaotic gathering, saying, “It’s everybody for themselves. It’s a war out there.” while on the scene, and then later commented on the news coverage with the message, “I love you guys to the fullest you guys are amazing.”

I'm a fan of the European style of tickets being based on the amount of money someone makes, meaning that if you make $3 million a year, your tickets/fines are much higher than someone who makes $20,000 a year. I imagine this guy will get a small fine that amounts to a slap on the wrist and no one will bat an eye.

In NYC, 'Inciting a Riot' I believe is a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of 1k and up to a year in prison. There could be enhancements depending, but that's what I found.

That said, considering the DA is Alvin Bragg, I will not be surprised if he decides not to prosecute.

It violates the 14th Amendment, full stop. It's discriminatory (based on economic status) which violates equal protection under the law.
