“YOUR LIVES
HAVE ENDED.

WHAT YOU DO WITH
YOUR NEW LIVES
IS ENTIRELY UP
TO ME.

THAT'S THE THEORY
ANYWAYS.”

Lives in Tokyo City have been just like it have everywhere else. Just as violent, corrupted and chaotic like any other cities, which are considered ‘normal’ in today's society. The city, mostly filled with selfish and ignorant people with only and probably just a few kind hearted souls. But death still comes to both sorts regardless. Either from an accident, murder, or by claiming their own life; death still comes.
What happened next though, nobody can tell. One must just experience it themselves to learn about the one question everybody have been asking since the beginning of mankind. But would the answer truly be the one we sought after?

Location: Tokyo City

Year: Present time

Exposure to Gantz: 0%

Notes

  • Though characters may be foreigners, they must be in Tokyo City at time of death. (recruitment phase)
  • Happens on Sunday and around two hours before midnight. (summoning hours)
  • Players can choose however they wish their characters to die (recruitment phase) as long as its within the time and day stated above. (around same time as the others)
  • Once their ‘mission’ begins, characters can't be seen by normal people, although the civilians can still be (harmed/killed) run into.
  • The environment can be interacted with and be destroyed as well.

About

Gantz is about the story of characters who died and got transported into some kind of a waiting room where they then become part of a semi-posthumous "game" in which the recently deceased folks are forced to hunt down and kill aliens/monsters, armed with a handful of futuristic items, equipment, and weaponry. At the end of each mission, points will be given and tallied based on the survivors' performance. They're then free to return to their life, but only to be recalled/transported back to the apartment one week later for yet another mission.

Gantz's Apartment

Location: Apartment building in Tokyo City with windows facing the Tokyo tower.

Access

  • Characters are first spawned in the hall. (printed out via harmless lazers from sphere, layer by layer and in sections until completely formed)
  • They can only access the corridor and the bathroom unless they'd met certain criteria to unlock the others.
  • Main door is also locked until dismissed by ‘Gantz’
  • The handle of both unaccessible doors and windows can't be touched/approached. (as if there's an invisible barrier blocking it)
  • All interior seemed indestructible.
  • Shoe cabinet can be found in the corridor near the entrance. (accessible — empty)
  • The big black sphere can be found in the hall.

100 POINT MENU

Option 1: Return to normal life with memories of ‘Gantz’ and missions/events wiped out.
Option 2: Access to more weapons
Option 3: Revive someone who died during mission from ‘Gantz's’ memory.

Attributes

This is basically just guidelines for players to gauge their character's performance compared to other team members as well as to the enemies. Players have 20 points to allocate towards their attributes. The average person would have a 4 or 5 points in each attributes. An athlete (sprinter) however, could have a 6 or a 7 in AGI. So from the example between the average person — say A — and the athlete — say B — from the example above, we could say that ‘A’ couldn't overtake ‘B’ in a short dash. ‘A’ could however eventually catch up to ‘B’ if ‘A's’ STM is much higher than ‘B’!

STR:
Refers to a character's strength, punching power, tackling, etc. It could also entails one's martial prowess.
AGI:
Determines just how nimble and quick a character is on their feet and reflexes. Dodging capability.
END:
Shows how tough and how much punishment a character can take before they get knocked out or is unable to continue fighting.
STM:
Determines just how much energy a character can exert themselves before they're exhausted. (does not get any suit multiplication bonus) — number allocated is equal to number of consecutive action-posts allowed, 2 STM points recovered per every 1 resting post —

Requirements

  • creative writers who can write at least three paragraphs minimum — more is encouraged
  • independent and could work out a story based on the information provided — with close to zero reliance on GM to hold their hands
  • character development — with flashbacks or glimpses of character's history in posts
  • real life or digital/CG image of character/s
  • players may have up to two characters each — in which, one of the two, must die (be killed off) during a mission (depends on the number of players participating — less means all might need to double and more means only a few needs to)
  • players will then introduce another character — during next summoning/recruiting phase
  • players are free to choose whether to stick with the first survivor or switch to the newcomer then — killing off one again
  • basically, players will always have one character to RP with unless they are bowing out of the game
  • also note that revival can be made (100 point menu), so do not be afraid to have your character die either heroically or horribly — just be sure to leave a good impression on somebody to bring them back
  • all sorts of human characters are welcome — the socially awkward/the psychopath/the victim/the killer/etc.
  • only OC allowed. No canon
  • posting pace of at least once/twice a week
  • follow posting order
  • back and forth interaction or sexual scenes to be collaborated over PM and have either one or the other, post it up
  • courtesy to inform if going to be away for a period of time in OOC or no longer interested
  • occasional visit and chatter in the OOC — it's one way to not let the RP die
  • an understanding between IC and OOC characteristics — some characters may not bode well with another, but all players should treat each other with respect
  • third person writing

FAQ

Q: I've not watch nor read of Gantz but can I still join?
A: Of course you can! And don't worry, if there's anything you're not sure about, just ask and I'm sure some of the fans here could answer you before I even could.

Q: Zanicus, both the blade and the monobike are actually already available from the start, for the manga, the anime as well as the movie; how come the RP isn't?
A: I am aware of that. And I simply made it that way to challenge us. Wouldn't want a newcomer to suddenly be riding a bike and stealing all the kills from the get go.

Q: Speaking of kills, how do you determine who gets the last blow?
A: On most missions, there would be more than just one enemy although Gantz only showed the boss image. The amount of enemies would be stated OOC and these minions or soldiers are at the player's control and disposal. (free form — if two or more sought claim over an enemy, then the kill would go to the one who rolled a higher d20) The boss however, will be played by the GM (me — meaning, my character will never have the chance to land the killing blow unless everybody else wants him to).

It's a shame this didn't get more interest. There's a lot of room for good roleplay with this story

Here’s my O/Os!

I don't know who this Muse person is, but if it explains away the voices in my head, then I'm all for it!

Lustful Bride

I will admit, I kind of like Gantz as well, but the high mortality rate of the Gantz setting kind of makes it worrying to create a character who might die off really quickly/easily.  :/

wander

I would totally have placed interest in this, however I was put off by the 'minimum three paragraphs' thing. I felt this would devolve the game into a load of filler words and posts turning into essays where not much happens which would have turned me off very quickly.

That this game actually had a minimal system was amazing.

Also Lustful, the small print said everyone makes two characters, with one being killed in the mission to be replaced after. So there's no real risk to a fave character you make getting killed off really. The character sheet seemed simple enough to be able to crank out basic character types too.

Though again, having something a bit more free-flowing would have attracted me.

What Wander said... v
Otherwise, if there's no character death, the threat in Gantz wouldn't have been as dire as it should have been..

The requirement is there because I just don't want any one liners.. And with two characters in play, one shouldn't have a problem meeting it..
I just want something for other players to work with of another's reply..

Would it be better if the minimum were to be at least one paragraph, instead?

wander

I'd have been happy with two, though action scenes are harder to really write so maybe one minimum when it comes to actual combat (I mean, maybe this shows my lack of writing skill, though how far can you stretch mid-battle, that you're firing your X-Gun at a specific target whilst doing something to evade an attack?).

That said, I've been in games where combat becomes a total mess due to people writing seven paragraph posts, stepping on each other's toes and not clearly defining where they are in relation to everyone else and who if anyone they may be interacting with. Also reading what amounts to a 3000+ word essay to realise where I am and post my action only for someone to have ninjad my post and added another 500-750 words I need to parse and make edits to my current post, even rewriting it from scratch sometimes... I don't like that, if anything it makes me stressed.

Thats not even touching the inevitable PvP of Gantz where I have yet to find someone here on-site that can take their character losing a fight on the chin and accept it without leaving the other guy just as bad if not worse off than their character.

And I love Gantz and would love a game doing this, I just guess I've become cynical about I know how it'd play out. Having a system to keep combat fair really helps though, so thumbs up for that.  :-)

I've never done a game on a system, also I'm not famiar with Gantz (though I'm going to be checking into it later today)... But if this is still on the table I wouldn't mind writing some cannon fodder. I don't have a problem writing characters only to have them be killed/destroyed/beaten.
Alive! Trying to catch up but there is a lot, please be patient! Thank you. <3

If this thread gathers solid interest, I also would not mind writing in minor characters.

My week have been rather busy so I've not the time to properly answer all the question asked.. I'll get to them as soon as I'm able.

Seeing how this is slowly gaining interest, I'm here to check and see how many interest this got before I start making any progress with this game.. Show of hands?

After giving it a few thought and consideration, there will be no change in the minimum post required.

It's true that there will be a delay when firing the x-gun. But as mentioned, you'll have free reigned over the disposal of the minions.. You can still do some Hollywood action moves and stunts as long as you don't sweep the whole floor by yourself and as long as you follow the game mechanics — stamina. The one action and reaction rule applies only when against the boss or PvP.

Against the boss, depending on how things go, I might put up a visual aid. A map perhaps, to show each player's location. There's still be plenty to write about then. Of what they feel when facing the threat. Comrades reaction. Expression. Flashbacks! Etc!

There'll also be a posting order. So don't worry about being ninja-ed. As for PvP, the only situation allowed is when one or both involved is with the ‘sacrifice character’ — the character that you want killed. Basically, the match is rigged! Winner and loser already decided! How badass the fight will go, I leave that for you guys to collaborate!

Remember, it's for good story!

----------

Alright!

I'm seeing hands! Nice! I'll start working ‘behind the scene’.. Shall post a character thread shortly..

Gantz .... uhmm may I ask if this RP is still accepting characters?

Lord Zanicus

Since all the characters are still in the waiting room, I'd say sure!
Submit your two characters in the character thread and wait for approval before I give the go ahead for your opening post!

Kensuke's total stats adds up to 21 (4,6,5,6).. Adjust this so it'll be 20 and you're green to post after Writersblockade!

This still accepting characters by any chance?
