The Handmaidens

The Community that began to spring up around Nottingham Estate did so out of necessity, not want. The young Lord of the Manor hadn't wanted other to gain the ability to live so close to him. His Father had kept their Estate private and he had every intention to keep it that way. Doing so proved harder than it appeared. Reeling from the ravages of war, the choice had not become his alone. Most of his employees had fallen in battle, all but the elderly, drafted to fight for a man they didn't believe in.

At the fall of the Rebellion, the radiation had soaked much of the land. Few communities untouched. The two thousand sprawling acres of Nottingham Estate, one such land. The broken depleted government had given Lord Nottingham not only money, but incentive. He would govern over those who lived within his land, appointment certain officials, and have people to work his land.

The building of homes started almost immediately, the population had been depleted so severely the new Government, made up entirely of men, set down a new law. Any woman, currently married with two or less children would be required to have a child within the next three years. The first problems began to arise when after three years 1 in every 12 women were able to bear children. The best doctors were brought in, they had only one explanation for it. All the women found infertile had lived in an area with larger quantities of radiation. Even though the radiation no longer lingered in their blood, it had already did all the damage it needed to.

Over the next few years many laws were laid down, many were appealed, in the end it was decided. Any woman, between the age of 18 and 35, who could bear children had a choice. Either pay the yearly Fertility tax or be sent to one of the Government funded hospitals where they would go through rigorous testing, treatments, until finally they would be sold to one of the lords in one of the seven Estates established across what remained of the United States. There they would remain for at least six years and provide the Man or Lord of the House with as many offspring as possible.

Rules

1 Respect. This is crucial, everyone needs to show respect. Have a problem with someone because of the game? Take it to PM’s. If you need me to meditate I will try.

2 All site rules will be adhered to. So will other players limits.

3 I don’t require a posting length. If someone is giving nothing but 1 paragraph or smaller posts I will kindly ask them to leave, or wait until their muse is up to continue posting.

4 Once a week post. That’s the minimum. If you’re going to be gone longer please let me know and I can hold off on including your character in immediate things.

5 Please take into consideration that the things I say are not law. But they are important to maintaining the fluidity of the game.

So, in a way, this is a lot like the book and TV show that has happened. Except for it's not the exact same. Technology is a little better, though after war not everything is great. It's going to be set in the 2000's though the internet and smart phone, things like that aren't as prevalent.

The positions currently that I'm considering being open to being played are:

Handmaiden
Man or Lord of the House
Lady of the House
Adult Children of the House 

If you would like to play a 'Lord' so to speak you would still be someone who answers to Lord Nottingham. He is very much like a Governor.

I would like to post interest as a handmaiden.

My knowledge of the setting is far from complete, but the general idea is that she spent most of her life in the rubble of the war, but whether through luck or some genetic advantage remained fertile despite some radiation exposure. She was eventually rounded up, processed, and settled in Nottingham.

She is fond of reading and loves poetry. She may also be bisexual. Her thoughts are fixed on escape. She is 19.

If this happens, I'll develop her further.

Well we'll need more Lords of houses. I was thinking of playing a Handmaiden, A Lady of the House, as well as a Lord myself. I'm also open to letting someone else play Lord Nottingham.

Well, it's not quite that simple. Ideally each handmaiden will have their own Lord. It's a community kind of thing. A little sandboxy.

Also, while the premise is very similar to the show it's not the same. Handmaidens won't be forced to wear the same clothes and they'll still be allowed to read and such.

I'm simply calling him Lord Nottingham because, while the general plot does follow that of the Novel as well as the TV show it's not the exact same. There are definitely great similarities, as it did inspire the game after all.

I avoided reading the books, believe Uma did a movie version of it in some form or altered nature, avoided that, but have watched two episodes on the new show.  Now I must master the thrust with hands on my own hips method of non-love baby making.  However could that possibly be awkward,lol.

His moves reminded be a bit of the Three Amigos famous hip thrust, minus the cool hats, of course.  (I would post an amusing Tgree Amigos gif here, but my phone reception prevents that silly awesomeness at the moment, dang it).

Which is perfect for an RP.  Actors play out the original text and canon, creative RPers/writers take the concepts and ideas from canon and make something uniquely new and worth writing and playing.  No reason to try and re-create a book written by an accomplished author, but a very intriguing concept and world in which to create something uniquely ours.  I rarel play any canon characters except as NPC's for that very reason.

Something more reluctant and confused but still focused on doing what's "right" no matter how it makes her feel is interesting too of course. Really it depends on how we want things to go I think.

Following up on that thought we could really go either something heavy on the dark sexual and non con impact of a world like this (more erotica) or more on how the world inmpacts daily life and relationships we mostly take for granted these days (which the book and I'm sure the show focuses on). I think the way I will write the Lady will totally depend on the feel other people want for the story. Both have a great amount of appeal for me.
