Actually, I think I can make this character far more interesting, and usable to the group, if he's more than just a grieving widower.

The death of his wife was several years ago. In order to keep himself busy and not spend too much time wallowing in misery, he started being active in the neighborhood HOA, and has recently been elected as President. He's willing to bend the HOA rules for the ladies around town... for a price...

Lucy has pretty much been a favourite of mine since Xena, and you are right about Spartacus, Lucy and the lovely Jamie Murray, what's not to love.  As for BSG, yes indeed all of females had something going on.
