Wargtass: While the background is interesting, I’m going to have to say no to the drake. An adolescent dragon is just going to be too much of a headache for both the party and me and it really wouldn’t fit into the game that I’ve planned. You have time to submit another concept or adjust this one, but the drake isn’t going to fly…. No pun intended.
I think that pun was totally intended!

Yesiroleplay: It’s an interesting concept. I’m not sure that the face thing would really be along the teachings of that particular church, and the character should take into consideration how his ideal of the church would think of it; wouldn’t her opinion or view effect the original decision to scare students into line rather than with the teachings that originally brought him into the faith? Nothing that would exclude the character from consideration, but questions to be answered.
"The face" he puts on is not at all elaborate.  It consists of dark eye-shadow, a stern expression, and a hair style.

I was thinking he had a naturally hollow face that lent itself to the Gothic look.  He never realized this until nearly two decades after his idol was gone - when he was in his late 20's and dealing with children that he probably wasn't properly equipped or trained to handle.

I hadn't considered how or why he'd have first used charcoal eye shadow.  Maybe as part of a costume?  I don't know if there would be such things a parallel for Halloween or the Mexican Day of the Dead in the game culture - but there might be some festival or a type of party where adults don costumes.  In any case - the get-up got results from his charges he hadn't seen before, and from that the practice gradually grew into what it is now.

He has a philosophy in adventuring:  "It's better to scare an opponent into submission than it is to kill them.  Even the most evil might be converted and saved if they are still alive."  Intimidation to him seems preferable to murder.  And he's not actually breaking any rules by doing it.  He may however be breaking with traditions that have nearly the power of doctrine - which could explain why he's not welcome in certain temples and became an adventuring cleric.

As to his idol - he hasn't thought about her as a person in years.  While she had a great impact on him as a young lad and helped him form many of his core values, that influence is now more about ideals than reality.  Still.. if he were to encounter her in the future that could have a profound impact on him.

Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

Well, this is what I get for not paying attention---it honestly never occurred to me. I am cognizant now and prepared for the future. Contrary to popular belief you can teach a (very) old dog new tricks.

Ummmm... I don't judge sketches contest, so drawing straws wouldn't help... Maybe some nice clay sculptures?

No problem at all, I had a feeling it wasn't grounded enough.  ;D

I'll have something measier down in a few, like a fighter or ranger.

Edit: And as promised, here you have a concept. Got stuck a little while writing but cured it with putting Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits on repeat.  ;D

Name: Miklos
Sex: Male
Race: Human
Age: 25
Class: Fighter 5
Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: Tall and built strong like an oak, Miklos must have been fed a lot of steady meals as a child. At a towering six and a half foot he might just be a particularly handsome and pale half-orc, but that is not the case. Add a thick layer of clothes and armor onto that and he looks even more imposing, often drawing a lot of attention in crowds and on the battlefield.

With a strong tall chin, a sharp nose and high cheekbones one could guess that his heritage stems from somewhere in the frozen norths, given his pale complexion and clear blue eyes. As any professional soldier would he keeps his black hair either cropped short or tied up in the back depending on how long he has gone without a barber at hand. Small nicks and scars are sparse on his face by some divine fortune, while most of the rest of his body bears the traces of some rather gruesome injuries.

His posture is straight backed, arms usually crossed over his chest or folded behind his back if his hands aren't occupied. When he speaks he likes to gesture wildly to emphasize his words, which for the most part are expressed in a loud and clear baritone, accented with very sharp emphasis on consonants.

Personality: Miklos is an unassuming man of bright disposition and reckless loyalty. He grew up as a child orphaned by war and taken in by a band of passing mercenaries and as such is no stranger to sudden loss or violence. Even so he finds it disheartening and it has instilled in him a will to go the extra mile to protect his comrades in arms to the point of grievous injuries and beyond. As long as he stands elbow to elbow with a fellow he exudes confidence and always steps up to shield those less capable than himself. If somehow separated from his kith and kin he becomes anxious to reunite with them once more and will go to any lengths to return to the fold. Outside of battle he tries his best to keep spirits high and knows how to take a joke at his own expense or even having someone take out their frustrations on him. In the end they are all siblings of war and once the anger clears they can all have a good laugh and move on to the next battle.

Background: Miklos was orphaned at an early age in the midst of a terrible war raging across his home country. A roving band of mercenaries found the child hiding inside a barrel in a burnt down village and its leader took pity on the boy and brought him along, seeing as the old man himself had been orphaned during a war as well. The boy of only ten was given the task of keeping the equipment of the soldiers in presentable condition, mostly just polishing to begin with, and the hardened warriors kept him safe and fed in return. It was meant to only be temporary, until they could find a place that could take him in, but by the end of the campaign no opportunity had presented itself.

He was always fed the best meals, even in those moments when the other soldiers had to starve they always managed to scavenge enough food to give the boy a proper meal. Perhaps this contributed to Miklos size and strength as he grew older, surpassing most of his "family" even as a teenager. The commander in particular, an old veteran of many years, was particularly proud that the ragtag band of brutes had managed to raise such a strong young man on their own. As soon as he was allowed, Miklos joined the other soldiers in the heat of battle, earning their respect on the field as well.

All good things must come to an end however, and for the band that happened when the commander died during a particularly gruesome siege that they had been hired to spearhead. Miklos blamed himself for the death of his father figure and the tattered remains of the company scattered with the wind when no new leader could be determined, most of the soldiers retiring with the gold they had earned over the many grueling years. Still being a young man far from his peak, Miklos sought out a new troupe to serve with, determined to not make the same mistake again. He would strive to protect his kin, even if he would die trying.

Hey there. Been a while.

That said, I read your post about no monks. I'd like to see if you're willing to make an exception. What I have in mind is an Unchained Monk. Because Paizo figured out they did such a bad job the first time, that they had to find a way to make it better for the future. It has Full BAB, D10 Hit Die, a weak Will Save, and can do what no monk can otherwise do: Melee. ;)

That said:

------

Name: Aimee
Sex: Female
Race: Human
Age: 19
Class: Unchained Monk 5
Alignment: Lawful Good

Appearance: Aimee is a woman of mixed descent, half from a far east China analogue, and half from somewhere akin to this world's version of France. She's around five feet and five inches in height, and built wiry, making her real power deceptive and hard to gauge. She has dark hair and pale brown eyes, and was graced with the soft features of a performer, though anyone who pays close attention to her cloth wrapped hands might realize that they've been trained to break things for an entire lifetime.

Personality: Aimee is alive. That's really the important thing. Every day is a blessing. The sun's warmth kisses your skin in the morning and the moon's radiance tucks you in at night. Oh, and that jerk who just tried to knock you out and take your money will soon be a broken mess on the floor questioning their life choices, because karma can be awfully direct sometimes. Remember: what goes around, comes around, and sometimes, you get to be what comes around. So she adventures around the world, trying to get as far away from where she grew up as possible, because everything is better than living there. That said, she's still young, and impressionable, although she's seemed to have made up her mind on what's right and what's wrong. She smiles a lot, but rarely with her teeth showing - because smiling for real would be difficult.

Background: Aimee is the daughter of a female foreign mercenary and an eastern feudal lord. With her family destroyed in another of a long line of clashes between the nobility, she found herself taken in by a local monastery at a very young age. Until she was sixteen, she trained in hand to hand combat and philosophy, and attempted to find inner peace, hoping she might some day find the people who destroyed her family and take revenge. When she was sixteen however, she found out that the noble family that had destroyed HER noble family had in fact already been destroyed by a third noble family. She found herself lost, and unable to determine her life's purpose, deciding that since she'd grown up in the east, she'd try exploring the west. She found herself as a passenger on a trade vessel, whose Captain at one point decided she would become a commodity, but she made it a point to slip out in a life boat before the Captain could make anything official. Since then, she's made it west through a series of almost comical misadventures. She's proven that guts, the ability to crack bones with your bare hands, and a cool head can prevail in the deadliest of circumstances. Mostly though, she's looking for somewhere that she doesn't feel alone. Adventuring and mercenary work is something to do to survive in the mean time.

Wargtess: The only problem that I have with the fighter is the mercenary group taking an infant in hand and raising it. I just can't see it happening. I can see a pre-teen, a young teen, even a 7 or 8 year old as there are things that he could do and he's potentially strong enough to learn some of the skills that a mercenary band might teach. It wouldn't alter the overall background and I would feel more comfortable with it if you would make the small change.

Arin: I never said no to monks, I said that I had reservasions about A monk/wizard character. It's an interesting concept. I only ask that you understand that there will be no eastern weapons or items set to appear in the game at this point and finding such will be very difficult. If you intend to focus only on unarmed combat, it shouldn't be an issue.

#87
Name: Raizen Silverfang | "Reina"
Sex: Born Male but is currently Female
Race: Half-elf
Age: 27
Class: Brawler
Physical Appearance: Raizen stands approx. 5'10" with an agile build that weighs in at about 140lbs give or take. In either state, Raizen is limber, with the corded muscles of a runner but an even, toned musculature.  He's (and I use the term in masculine because that's how the character views themself still) got a tan complexion with a faint olive undertone. His hair is kept long in a traditional elven aesthetic and pulled out of his eyes. His eyes are almond shaped and clear Ocean blue color but in his eyes is a strangely glowing symbol of the god Irori in the form of an intensely blue corona around the iris.

Personality: Generally friendly and easygoing with most people, having a somewhat off-kilter sense of humor that takes a bit of time to get used to.  He lacks in higher-end social graces but has no problem dealing with the common man and at times even manages to be suave and charming.  Such an occurance is reasonably rare though, Raizen tends to keep quiet for the most until he's more comfortable around people.  Becoming a female has just exagerrated this tendency; not wanting to draw embarrassing attention.

Despite several flaws in the social arena; Raizen has a quick, insightful personality.  He learns new concepts easily and is reasonably aware of what's going on around him.  His best traits are as applied to combat though; an ability to think on one's feet and remain flexible to seize advantages when they occur.

Background: Raizen was born to a male elf ranger and a human female soldier; as a result his childhood was largely full of some form of stimulation.  His father would teach him from a very early age about elven history and culture (taking the form of children's stories obviously) as well as the art of archery.  His mother was just actually far more disciplined; when she wasn't being "mom" to him; she was drilling him constantly in martial arts though he never latched onto any particular style.  Raizen's half-siblings from  his father's side were a distant presence at best; having grown up a century before and while his brother didn't (and doesn't) care enough to visit; his older sister periodically does, fostering a relationship.

Raizen had a largely normal childhood given his circumstances; he didn't realize he was being treated special to a degree because of the odd event that happened during his birth.  While he didn't realize it; he'd been marked by the deity Irori; the god his mother worshipped and had impressed upon him.  It would cause some backlash however, during a martial arts competition he'd be entered into when he was physically able.

His superior agility causing him to advance and even win against others his own age or a bit older.  Everyone wanted to credit the victory to the deity that'd marked him and not of his own accomplishment; a trend that would continue until he was sent away for formal martial arts training beyond what his mother could provide. Raizen had trouble at first, feeling his talents lay more in the skills his father had taught him; that was until a wise mentor pointed out the similarities in the two paths he was trying to pursue.

It oddly made a good bit of sense and something clicked deep in his soul; a way to combine his disparate heritage between his elven side and his human side.  Taking the form of the comparison of how an arrow strikes precision to great effect: martial arts can follow the same ideal; to strike with precision rather than brute force.  Focus on the technique; not hitting something as hard as one could.

That epiphany entirely altered how Raizen viewed the world and smoothed out some of his issues.  The epiphany being that two seemingly different things can come together to accomplish something greater than themselves individually. Raizen decided to fully dedicate himself to mastering both forms of combat as a way to unite his heritage.  Growing exceptionally accomplished and more comfortable using the bow; even learning how to fashion them (and arrows) as he required. He also realized that with martial arts in his backpocket; he never had to drop his bow to fend off enemies that got too close for a shot without leaving himself vulnerable.

As he grew; he began to sense and feel the flow of magic around him, it showed in everything once he "tuned in" to it.  He felt the faint buzzing inside and after consulting his father about it; he was given a few magical items to examine and "feel" out.  His father believing that magic was something one could learn even if they didn't have it coursing through their veins.  While none of his parents nor mentor were magic users; Raizen was exposed to it through an old spellbook his mother had (though couldn't make sense of it). Ever sense then; the old book hasn't left his side; as it contains various notes and research on the subject ingeneral with several spells scribed into it.  Though he can't understand the magical writings; his mind had been expanding slowly as he read through it repeatedly.

The biggest event that happened though, was the same reason Raizen had to leave home; he'd fallen in love with an older woman.  Normally it wouldn't be an issue; but the society he lived in was very socially minded- that nobody of lower class should affiliate in such a way with a person of higher class. It was nice though; the slightly older human woman secretly returned his affections in the form of clandestine meetings in out of the way locations.  Eventually columnating into a form  of employment as a bodyguard or servant.

Things went sour though, when she'd learned of an arranged marriage she was being forced into.  The woman called him into her private quarters and after a short time; went from personal to intimate, but shortly after the..climactic moment; she'd hear something. It would turn out to be ther father and would-be husband approaching; in the rush to get Raizen out before they were caught- she insisted that he don an odd looking belt.  She explained it as a magical item that would disguise his appearance by making him look like a young woman, in that disguise; he could walk right past the approaching nobles without a second look.

The plot worked....until he'd gotten clear of the building and tried to remove it. To his horror, Raizen realized he'd been given a cursed item that wouldn't come off.  He wanted to believe it was an honest accident and that it would reverse when he managed to get it off and hurried away.  When he returned home, now looking like a female version of himself; he explained it to his older sister; who simply collapsed in a fit of laughter. Put off and distraught; Raizen sought his father whom would call in a priest to remove the curse; which would allow the belt to be removed. However; the effect remained- and the priest wasn't strong enough to reverse it on their own.
On top of that; the next day the nobleman, the father of the woman Raizen had slept with; put out the word that whomever had raped his daughter was to be brought before him.  The man had suspicions that it was Raizen by how they'd always been so close, so his description was being passed around.  At that point, Raizen took the name "Reina" and covertly slipped out of the city before things went too crazy.

A year later, "Reina" would hook up with the mercenary group; in the hopes of findin a way to reverse the curse that had altered Raizen so much. He wanted to return home to at least accept responsibility if his lover had conceived a child; but only after earning a name for himself.

I'm leaning hard towards Druid. Oracle keeps me out of 3rd-level spells and there's always the temptation to cheese. Cleric is fun, but a little bland - that said an Evangelist could be fun. Get some of that inspire courage stuff going on.

Snake: It looks interesting. We'll see how things stack up.

Everyone, I am asking for character sheets at this point. Holding off will not win you a slot in the game if your intention is to see what everyone else does. While all of the ideas are great, I've decided that I'll need to see what you're going to do with them mechanically to select the characters that I'm going with.

I will stop accepting character profiles at midnight tonight. The generation guidelines are in the original post, and I'll remind everyone of two things to keep in mind.

1. No single item may cost more than 5,000 GP.Use of feats or crafting skills will not bypass this limit

2. I will allow item creation feats and craft skills to be used to reduce the cost, but this will not add thousands of GP to your buying power.I'll adjust your starting gold slightly to keep things in balance if these are used.

Does the Genderswap curse count against that since it was because of the "girdle of opposite gender?"  Like I add in the cost of the belt off my 10,500 gp?

I'm not in the habit of charging players or characters for cursed items. From the SRD, the belt can be removed without difficulty; putting it on again just doesn't have any effect and as far as I can tell, it doesn't give any benefit to the wearer.

Virgil, I didn't see a CS in the profile.
"I am a Southern Gentleman, which means that I'm a rogue and a scoundrel. When I'm not kissin' the hands of married women, I'm slipping off their wedding rings."

Yes, I really am blind.
Being Literate is the ability to read and understand a language. When you ask for literate, what you are looking for is Verbosity, which is the ability to use lots of words without actually saying very much... like politicians. I consider myself both literate and verbose.

Most cursed items have to have "remove curse" cast on them to actually remove them from the bearer.

But in the SRD: the effect of that particular belt remains even after its' removed and requires a stronger countering spell to erase or, as of the same book the Brawler came from; the "elixir of sex shift" will return him to a male body as well. (since it's effects are also permanent per draft)
