Captain Whitebread

I'm interested as well, although I'm much more a fan of 3025/3026 tech, when playing the heat scale required the skill of a virtuoso. Ah, the good old days.....

I can also pony up something in the neighbourhood of 100 NPCs from a Battletech GoT inspired political game that didn't go past 50 posts, complete with built in rivalries....

There are nights when the wolves are silent and it the moon that howls.

Inerrant Lust

Admittedly, my extent of familiarity with the lore is mostly from Mechwarrior 2, the Mech Commanders, and the occasional perusal of the Sarna wiki. I've never played tabletop. Although I suppose, given the nature of the game, a lot of the arena fighters will want to put on a show rather than fight as effectively as possible.

Latooni Subota

For me, my btech experience is the early games (2, platinum, Commanders, etc), a few books (Mainly the Black Rose stuff), and quite a bit of table-top play back in the day using a friend's mechs since I was poor at the time. Really I'm just a missile-slut. :x

Name: Alice Tadokoro

Ace: 18

Nationality: Draconis Combine

Dream Mech: Catapult (Or Longbow)

Alice is an odd girl, from a world on the outer rim of the Draconis Combine. Her world never really had much attention, being hardly more than a handful of small frontier colonies with few major resources that would interest anyone. Really, their only 'export' so-to-speak was warm bodies to work in other places rather than stagnate in dull farm towns. Alice was one of those rare few who actually had a decent head on her shoulders, and was more interested in reading than getting knocked up in a barn loft. More of a stroke of luck than anything, Alice managed to get a place in one of the Kuritan military academies. Things went poorly.

Nobody can deny that Alice is a bright girl and a whiz behind a properly advanced BattleMech, but the frontier girl never quite caught on to the societal practices of the Draconis Combine. She was often looked down on for her inability to adapt to high-protocol situations, and teammates would regularly ignore otherwise valid advice and offers of assistance due to her 'shameful' manner and country bumpkin accent. By the time she graduated (thanks in part to the temporary ceasefire after Tukayyid, the best posting she could get was basic garrison work on a planet just as sleepy as her own, no matter how good of a MechWarrior she was. In a fit of rebellion Alice quite happily flipped off every brass she could and got the hell out of dodge, making her way to Solaris VII. While Outreach would've been better to find work in a mercenary crew, Alice (wisely) realized that she'd need some public experience and to own her own mech free and clear to really make herself an attractive pick.

When in doubt, be the gifted-but-totally-untested new pilot!

Name: Richter Feldman

Age: 30

Nationality: Terran (ComStar)

Dream Mech: A Mad Cat (for someone else to pilot and for him to tinker with)

Growing up in the cradle of all civilization was at once a blessing and a curse for Richter Feldman. Part of a Eurasian noble house he was sent to Sydney to earn his acolyteship with the prestigious ComStar. As fate would have it he ended up in a little less illustrious career than his family had intended for him. Always one to tinker with machines, he wasn't very interested in communication and HPG networks and was instead drawn towards the mechanical workings of vehicles and mechs. He spent more time in service pits and hangars than he did in class rooms, teaching himself proper mechanical engineering with books borrowed or stolen.

While all this resulted in him being expelled from the ComStar academia and disowned by his parents, the young engineering prodigy was eyed closely by the secret service ROM and herded into the ComGuards' Zeta branch of military technology. He took part in the research and reverse engineering of captured Clan tech before and after the Battle of Tukayyid, earning himself unique experience as well as valuable knowledge that would help his career. Or it would have if the Word of Blake hadn't won control of Terra in 3058. He realized pretty quickly where the wind was blowing and took off, finding a temporary refuge in the Free Worlds League before ending up in Solaris City where his talents would find a new and unique application among the gladiatorial stables.

I'll find a picture shortly, I'm sure.  ;D

Cool characters, Latooni and Wargtass.

Captain Whitebread, the lower levels of competition will use 3025 tech, aka "Retrotech."

Inerrant Lust, winning is still important, but winning with style is better.

Missile Slut Battlemech

FYI, I'm still up in the air about running this game.  Interest seems good, but it's more about unrelated RL factors.  Not definitely doing it, but also not definitely not doing it.

Most important thing to remember from the original Mechwarrior games (Mechwarrior 2, Mercenaries, GBL, Mechwarrior 3 etc) is that LRM's are your friends. And if they use more AMS.... BRING MORE LRM'S!!!!

Captain Whitebread

#30

Name: Randy Barre-Gardener

Age: 35

Nationality: Lyran Alliance

Dream Mech: Griffon

Brief history and personality: Randy grew up on tales of his grandfather, a tech who raised a chunk of discarded battlefield salvaged from the grave and managed to find a place within the prestigious world of the mechwarriors.  He watched his father destroy that legacy, drinking and gambling away any hope that his son might ever have the chance to pilot his grandfather's mech.  He followed the example set by his grandfather and, although it wasn't the storied Griffon he'd heard so much about, it was a mech.

With three other light mechs and backed up by a batallion of tanks, he was part of a garrison tasked with defending a small planet from pirates.  His Wasp was no match for the pirate mechs, so instead of facing superior opponents, he and his lance mates waited until the pirate drop ship had landed and in a lightning raid ran aboard and shot it up so badly that it was no longer capable of taking off.  The pirates surrendered and, instead of commending him, the garrison commander court martialed him for risking the lives of his lance in such a foolhardy attack.

With his career in ruins, Randy made his way off planet, drifting around until he final found himself on Solaris.  Here, he hoped, he could win himself a new mech and get back into the fight.....

Looks good, Captain Whitebread, but I'd go with art instead of a photo for the image of the character.

Thanks for the interest everyone.

If I run this, the earliest it would happen is mid-December (2-3 weeks from today).

Thanks, stay tuned, and feel free to keep posting characters and ideas.

Captain Whitebread

One artwork character pic coming up....

Inerrant Lust

Ah, that's a good one. I had some trouble finding decent male character concepts that worked with the conception I had in my mind about Fallen Star, but with all these other male PCs, I guess I won't have to. :P Oh, that reminds me- I hadn't checked to see if you had any prohibitions against males writing female characters and such..

Sara Nilsson

Looking forward to it, if you wont run it Ill run my mechwarrior campaign. One way or another mechs will be marching again!

No prohibitions on that.  And I'm not looking for gender balance either.  Players can generally play what character they want.

This is more about big stompy robots, not sex.  Sex can happen (probably in one-on-one threads, while the group threads focus on combat and mechwarrior day-to-day stuff), but for the group scenes the focus is on mech action.

Inerrant Lust

God bless the lore which states that clanners have few qualms about casual sex.  ::)

Relikai

Experience comes from Mech 4 Mercs, MechCommander 2, and a novel Flight of the Falcon.

Might come in with a female Clanner with Kurita/Japanese influences, dream mech... the MadCat?  ::)

Captain Whitebread

I like the MadCat. I'v never had a character come close to piloting one.
There are nights when the wolves are silent and it the moon that howls.

Inerrant Lust

I think the Timber Wolf is Battletech's signature mech, next to maybe the Atlas.

But I have a weakness for the sleek jet-fighter look of many of the clan mechs. That, and they have the cute fox. Look at those little ears!

Inerrant Lust

You mean Glaug Battlepod and Destroid Tomahawk? ;)

Captain Whitebread

Don't you go messing with my copyright lawsuit causing artistic crossover 'lost mech' preferences...

WhatLiesAbove

Name: Kacey Radick

Age: 27

Nationality: Clan Wolf

Dream Mech: Fire Falcon

Brief history and personality: Kacey was born into the Wolf Clan, and is extremely proud of her heritage. While not lucky enough to have been born into the blood name of Kerensky, her family is still well-known around the worlds that Clan Wolf has made its mark on.

Kacey grew up learning the ways of the warrior. She started out in a simulator at age 12, and was soon showing great promise with quick instincts. By the age of 17, she had earned her own mech, and by 20 she had shown her skill in several battles. With war winding down, the clan had deemed her worthy to prove that Clan Wolf was still prominent even in the Inner Sphere, and sent her to Solaris to gain noteriety and fame in the arenas.

Relikai

#44

Name: Yurina 'Yuri' Kazema

Age: 23

Nationality: Clan Jade Falcon

Dream Mech: Mad Cat / Timber Wolf

Brief history and personality:

Yuri was born into the Kazema family of Clan Jade Falcon, and grew to be a strong and determined individual, often getting into fights with other rivals in the arena. She was part of the Clan which separated from the warmongering group, choosing a more moderate path instead of going on an invasion of the Inner Sphere for Terra. Yuri was more of a strategist and thinker than a physical warrior, a mechanic who loved her machine more than the company of men. It was this love which drove her to Solaris, where she could see plenty of mechs in action, and partake in the arena where men and women fight for honor and money.

Meanwhile, Gauss Rifles / ER PPCs are my friends, especially during challenges. Sniping cockpits from far is the love  ;D

Everyone runs Gauss and ER PPC in Mechwarrior Online. That and jumpjets to poptart over hills... I really loathe MWO's map design, as most matches devolve into long range poke battles and LRM spam. By the time I've gotten up close and personal with my SRMs, I've taken a bazillion glancing Large Lasers. :P

TheGlyphstone

Ooh, Battletech!

And look at all the old friendly faces showing up from the games we use to play, too.

Wargtass

It's like a big ol' reunion!  ;D

As for LRMs in MWO, I never leave the hangar without an ECM and AMS. Only really use LRMs myself on my Mad Dog though. I'm way better with energy weapons. I'm a jetpack-hoe tho... don't judge me.
O/O

TheGlyphstone

I'll have to come up with a new character concept - trying to reinterpret Aldritch again for this story wouldn't work as well, him and the ol' King Crab are just too interlinked.
