No one mentioned this?

http://news.yahoo.com/guys-little-pony-gather-bronycon-160957992.html

Quote
Faust told The Associated Press at BronyCon on Saturday that she never imagined the show would be such a hit with teenage boys and young men. She said her main target was little girls, but she hoped to draw in moms and perhaps some boys with strong characters and compelling story lines.

"We live in a society where saying that something is for girls is the equivalent to saying that something is stupid, or saying that something isn't worthwhile," Faust said.

"I think that's awful and I think that kind of attitude needs to be changed," she said. "And these men are doing it. ... They're proud that they're forward-thinking and modern enough to look past this misogynistic attitude."

Actually the apple harvest has more to do with shouting at jars, and dressing like a bunny. If you don't smile and get along, evil ice spirits make it winter forever.

LIES!!! >_> Those were Zap Apples...

There is a regular apple Harvest and The Apple Family's land holdings are quite extensive if you give some thought to it, Although given the family was the reason for the town's settlement it does make a bit of sense...

Well, given the show's unusually high popularity elsewhere on the internet, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.  Is anyone here on E watching the latest My Little Pony Cartoon?

My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic Highlights

It's funny, well-written, has excellent characterization and animation...  It really deserves all the popularity it's gotten, I think. ^^

I watch a 3 year old girl and her one year old brother while their mother has a weekend nursing shift. The little girl is obsessed with My Little Pony. Calls it "her ponies".

It is not really that bad of a show. It is a lot more violent than I remember 20 years ago when I was a kid. I also know that they are more diverse in this show than it used to be. All TV and Media have to be more diverse now.

Wait...what? Violent? I...what? My Little Pony? The show where three major villains were defeated by the main characters literally just being together in the same room? In the whole series, I've never seen anything more violent than random flower pots raining from the sky or hand buzzers as party favors. ???

Well, I guess comparatively it could be thought so.  From my own memory, G1 ponies were... very sugar-coated and nicey-nice.

The season 2 finale had some violence with the ponies kicking changelings. It was the first violence I remember seeing in the show, and it felt a little odd.

For the most part, they do defeat villains not by just standing together, but outwitting them (not that it's that hard to do) and using teamwork. That is very much in the spirit of the original show, where the ponies came together with nonviolent plans where everyone chipped in to accomplish what nobody could do alone.

I get the feeling if I had access to Hub I might become a broni.
as it is I believe it's because the show is well done, intelligent dispite it's cutie style and setting, does not talk down to children, has interisting writing compared to a lot of other cartoons these days. (I'm lookin at you Adult Swim!)

on top of it all a lot of people I think (broni's I've met) watch it to get their moment of sweetness, hope, and sunshine in a world they see as harsh, violent, unpleasent, or miserable.

I think I still prefer Scumbag Sona, though.

The episode I watched yesterday had a giant bear destroying the town. As well, there are forms of bullying where (I do not know names) one pony refers to herself as the one that can do anything and knows it all. She undermines everyone else and it ended up that she could not do anything to save the town and the purple pony needed to destroy a water tower to make it into a bottle to give to the bear. That bear scared the little girl I was watching and she kept calling it a monster. Large fangs, drool, makes a large roar and all of the ponies were screaming and running away from it.

I also felt really bad because there was one episode with the smaller ponies who have no design on them and they wanted to be like everyone else. They worked really hard at everything they did and they still did not get their mark. Gives the kids a bad message that no matter how hard you work, you still cant do it.

Or that good things come with time, and you need to be patient and enjoy life in the moment, rather than concern yourself will being like everyone else....

:D

Or that you have no control over who you're going to be when you grow up so trying to shape yourself into what you want probably won't have any impact on the actual outcome of your adult life...

...man, that's kinda bleak. ._.

I suppose I should add in a couple of previews of season 3 I found...

Thanks Kunoichi! I looked away from MLP for a few months and I missed some cool stuff.

They're not quite Aria catchy, but, definitely got me interested in the episode.

I knew there would be a MLP thread somewhere on these forums. :P There is nowhere that is safe from ponies.

That being said, I am a bit of a fan myself. Not obsessed like some, but I like it.

To shamelessly plug myself, I do plushie commissions and I get quite a bit of business with pony plushies.

Picture of something recent.

OH. For those of you interested in silly things, you could always come and visit the Ask Account on Tumblr I made for my personal MLP character. I'd appreciate any visitors and such that you care to hand me. :3 PM me if you are interested in taking a look.

Other than that? My favorite ponies surprised me. I thought this would be my ranking for the mane 6;

1. Rainbow Dash
2. Applejack
3. Fluttershy
4. Pinkie Pie
5. Twilight Sparkle
6. Rarity

But this is the actual way it is!

1. Rarity
2. Fluttershy
3. Rainbow Dash
4. Applejack
5. Twilight Sparkle
6. Pinkie Pie

My reason for Pinkie Pie being at the bottom is that she is just so... Well. Loud. And I have known people like her in real life and it's annoyed the shit out of me. To have them always hyper and always in your face? Gets annoying after a while. Although I will admit she has her moments, and I am far from hating her or anything. :P

What most surprised me was Rarity. I usually hate snobby types, but my God, do I EVER get a riot off of her! She's awesome. <3 Best pony.

I haven't read the entire thread, but do others want to start doing a little rank list of the mane 6? I'd be interested in reading that and comparing notes, haha.

Also, I will agree with a lot of things said here. Particularly that 'This Day Aria' is by far the best song that's been pumped out thus far. In fact, I think I enjoy those two episodes the most as well.
