Not necessarily.  Peter Parker's real talents lay in chemistry and engineering, after all, and people are known for developing Cutie Marks that don't seem all that related to what they're doing.  Rarity's gems and the fashion industry?  Cheerilee's flowers with smiley faces and her teaching job?  Heck, Derpy's been shown moving furniture and other things onscreen, and she's just got six bubbles.

The unfortunate side effect of having a two year old is that you come across shows like this all the time. My daughter has started to watch My Little Pony recently and by proxy I get to watch it before work.

Just got to see an episode with Rarity where she completely outsmarts her captors. Haha...

MAD Tv - My Little War Horse [Full HD]

Ah, MAD... about as clever and funny as current Simpsons seasons, and just as desperate for recognition.

You know I've heard about this show . . . what the heck is it? Why is it so popular?

I mean isn't like a kids show or something?

Shjade

Many are the times I've asked myself that question, MC.

Yes it's a kids show. Why it is so popular with not-kids, I have no idea.

Well, I guess it's not a bad thing, I was watching Mr. Rogers neighborhood into my teens.

Plus, depending on the show, kiddie stuff can be entertaining sometimes.

Sir.

Why was Powerpuff girls so popular?

Because it doesn't pander to kids. It treats them with respect and doesn't hold back. It's smartly written and has character growth and development.

It's the same reason why Adventure Time is popular as well.

Except Powerpuff Girls was in many ways not a "kids' show." It was more of a teen-adult show written as a mock-up of a kids' show.

Ponies is more the reverse, with a younger target audience and highlights for the older audience. I can see why it would be popular with parents/babysitters since, of the options for youth TV programs, it's one of the very few I can think of off the top of my head that I wouldn't mind watching with some kids, but as for how it reached its universal status? I am befuddled.

Have you tried watching it? You might have a better understanding once you've seen a few episodes. Frankly I thought someone was joking when I first heard about it. Like it was similar to rickrolling where you trick someone into watching. However this is not the case.

Dhi

I don't know for sure why it's so popular with other people.

For me, it's because I watched G1 as a little girl. The adventure of that show put me on a path of imagination and creativity and roleplaying that was a tremendous influence on my happy and fulfilled life. After several failed incarnations of MLP to follow, each more vapid and inane than the last, the series has finally returned to that charm of the original and exceeded it.

I couldn't be happier that a new generation of girls are being given a positive and adventurous alternative to the weekly makeover ads and gender role reinforcement that pass for girls' entertainment the world over. I love how successful it's become. I could do without all the pony porn, though.

The first time I sat down to watch FiM, I fell in love. Maybe it's not the best cartoon, maybe there are a lot of cartoons I'd like if I took the time to watch them. But this one is special not only to me but to millions of impressionable girls who might just take something special from it, the way G1 influenced me.

Yes, I've watched some of it. It's an average to above-average kids' show. I don't see what's remarkable about it.

I don't know.

We can't really describe what makes it so good...

but...

Well, It's like 'The most Interesting Brony in the world' Said

Kunoichi

Personally, I've always been very much of the opinion that Friendship is Magic is very much a 'your mileage may vary' kind of show.  It has legions of dedicated fans, but there are also people out there who can watch the show, and yet not find anything particularly compelling in the plots or characterization.

And that's perfectly fine, really. ^^

Anyway, here's a couple of images I stumbled across.

Oniya

When I was a kid, cartoons included bits that sailed over most kids' heads but made the show amusing for adults.  As time went on, cartoons started playing more and more to the younger brain and forgetting about the fact that parents might be there with their kids.  (Of course, more and more, parents weren't there with their kids, so no one complained.)  By the time I had the little Oni, the average cartoon was making my brain leak out my ears.  I think this show, as well as others, are starting to swing the other direction.

Of course.

But should we post them...that's the real question....

But of course. :P That's what spoiler boxes are for, after all.

Edit: Okay, I've had a chance to see the episode now.  That was rather interesting, though I felt like they could have gone into a little more detail on the villain's plan.  Still, not a bad episode, overall.

Also, we finally get to see Vinyl Scratch's eyes. ;D
