I just submitted a student character sheet for my gal who is going for a library science degree with a focus on archival work! So she could certainly use a subject area expert/mentor!

History: Simon Haze Cooper was born addicted, his tiny body shaking with withdrawal from the drugs in his mother’s system. Delilah was lost in a haze of smoke and substances, and when someone asked for his middle name, she murmured it almost unconsciously. Haze became more than a name. It was the fog that surrounded his first breath.

He spent his early childhood drifting between motels, shelters, and the backseat of their rusty, duct-taped Toyota that always smelled like old fries and stale smoke.

Sometimes Delilah was soft. Sometimes she screamed at walls. Sometimes she’d vanish for two or three days, leaving Simon with a box of cereal and a sink that didn’t run. His mother tried—sometimes—to get clean. But the boyfriends came and went, leaving behind bruises and broken things. Simon learned early how to disappear, how to shrink into himself and vanish into books, to pretend, to make up games with characters who could fight back.

At seventeen, he learned he had a half-siste. Different father, different life. Their mother let it slip in a moment of drug-addled lucidity. Her father had taken full custody after something terrible happened. Simon never knew the details. He only knew his sister was gone.

Later, he found her. Driven by a mix of hope and fear, Simon found his sister living with a wealthy family in a nearby Washington town. He didn’t knock the first time he saw her, just watched from across the street. Though terrified, he returned soon after to try to introduce himself, only to panic at the last minute. That’s how they met. Mid panic attack outside the gate of the fancy home. Still, it led to a conversation and an exchange of numbers. It was awkward, fragile, and uncertain, but something real began to grow.

When it came time for college, with the help of low-income grants and loans—Simon chose her university.  He told himself it was for the programs, but really, he was following her. The idea of going somewhere brand new with nothing but strangers around him felt too terrifying and overwhelming. At least here, he had someone. Even if a very stubborn part of him insisted he was just a project to her. That thought festered sometimes, digging in claws of bitterness, guilt, a bone-deep sense of inferiority, and a quiet anger he didn’t always know what to do with. It was hard not to feel it, not to let it seep in, when he was surrounded by people who lived so many rungs above him on the social ladder, they might as well have been on another planet.

Simon wrestles with severe anxiety and long, heavy stretches of depression. Most days, he moves through the world like an outsider looking in, never quite sure how to belong. But in books, in writing, in the quiet magic of tabletop games, he finds a different version of himself. There, he isn’t wrong or broken or too much. He just is. And in that quiet, where no one asked him to be anything more, he finally felt like he could breathe.

Character Ons/Offs: My O/Os. Simon will need gentleness and patience. He’s isn’t very experienced, but it open to trying new things as long as a partner takes it slow. I would say he’s pretty vanilla for now, but has the potential of becoming more.

I would like to mention for players: I don't intend to apply for Big Game status just yet, though it it looking like I would meet the requirements after my first round of CS reviews. I would like to ensure things go okay for at least a RL month before asking the admins about that, maybe hit 100 IC posts before looking into that, to see if we have staying power. This game will be placed initially in NC-H Small Groups at first, just to make sure things go okay! If we make it a month and have at least 100 IC posts, I'd look into talking to the admins about a Big Group subboard.

I chose this for one other reason: I don't want people to feel stressed about the idea of dropping a Big Group if they need to, y'know, early on? I want people to feel okay participating at a pace that feels right for them, to stay or go as needed, with at least a coupla IC posts and a bit of a monthly GM check in at minimum, which feels like a reasonable expectation. I hope that vibes with what people would enjoy and love <3

Coincidentally, I was intending on my guy Braxton to be part of whatever LGBTQ+ Alliance equivalent there was. Maybe they can both be QUACKERS assuming they're both accepted~
