God.  Just reading some new articles today.  It's scary just how much of a dictatorship the US is becoming of late.  And no, that is not hyperbole.

We have suppression of the press.

We have law firms being targeted for not supporting Trump.

We have direct violations of the  constitution when it comes to the first amendment, with people being deported for exercising their first amendment rights.

We have people being whisked away to foreign countries without due process.

We have a supreme court that has been blatantly bought.

We have a president trying to disenfranchise and suppress voters.

We have a president who turns on his countries longest allies.

We have a president using archiac laws that haven't been used in some cases in almost a hundred years, created not for the uses that they are being used for, and a House and Senate that refuse to reign him in.

Just disgusting and terrifying.

Ya, ever since the 51st state threats started I have had a number of my friends suddenly became interested in getting their firearms license and asking me where to buy and what kind of rifle to get.

Even some questioning weather or not the current mass firearm buyback here in Canada should maybe be reversed or at least delayed until Trump is removed from office.

It's been interesting considering I've been the lone gun nut in my group of friends for years now.

Don't forget the censorship of museums and schools to rewrite history to their liking, or the ongoing purge of military leadership to remove women and minorities from command ranks.

I've also heard about this. Apparently Harriet Tubman's photo was removed from the national parks website and a bunch of info about her was briefly 'revised & edited' before public outrage made them backtrack.

While the term ultimately derives from the Wizard of Oz, it's also used quite a bit when talking about relationships with narcissists.  The 'flying monkeys' are the people that make their appearance when the narc isn't getting their way.  Examples would be the 'well-meaning relative who tells you that the person you've blocked really wants to talk with you and has no idea why you aren't talking to them.' or the mutual acquaintance who tells you that 'they aren't so bad - it's just the way they are.'

I just saw a clip when a CNN journalist asked Trump about the innocent man sent to that Salvadorian murder-prison... and Trump literally replied with "This is a stupid question and I don't want you here". My thought was: how long until Secret Service starts throwing journalists out of the White House for asking inconvenient questions?

This is where Putin is in the playbook - possibly the fifth line as well.  Trump regularly uses this same playbook and is buddy-buddy with Putin.  It's not always linear; sometimes either one of them will skip steps, but you can usually sum up the explanations with one of those lines.
