They broke as a result of the site upgrade and were somewhat broken before that (due to lack of my attention on them).

If you are missing the functionality, I can look at getting something to replace them but I would very much welcome hearing about how you used them and what you'd want out of a replacement.  That way I can build bigger and better :)

From what she described to me I can actually see it being super useful for those in group games for example, who want to track off topic stuff but not have it in bookmarks. Also for writing activities (word of the day), or finders and seekers threads. Sort of topics you don't want to bookmark but do frequent.

Cool stuff - I'll see about reimplementing it for the new look Elliquiy and work out what else we can do with it to improve it :)

OK - I've now started work on the new Quick Links and I can offer a little bit of a preview.

As you can hopefully see below - the system is going to have multiple 'Categories' which can each have their own list of links.  Each category has its own space on the menu :)

Now I just have to write the user interface for adding/editing/deleting and reordering categories and links :)

OK - it's here... v2.5.0 has quick links again, albeit in a bit of an early form.

Switch it on in settings and you will then see a (+) item appear in the menu.  Click that to add your first category of Quick Links.  A menu will appear based on the name you give it.  Click that menu and you can start to add links.  The URL of the link will default to the page you are on but you can edit it to whatever you want.

Don't use apostrophes or quotes in your names - it'll break stuff.

Need to get rid of a link?  Right-click it.  Be careful, there's no warning yet.

Need to get rid of a category - get rid of all of the links in it and then right click it.  Again - no warning but it's empty anyway so...

Hey so this might be a really dumb question but how do i update the Script? your doing all this stuff, and i'm not seeing any of it. my bookmarks are still vanishing when i turn it on so it's got to be the wrong version right? only, it doesn't seam to be updating on it's own at all. i checked it on my extensions and it says you haven't updated it since 8/23/23 which is obviously incorrect xDD

The easiest way is to visit: https://github.com/Ssieth/eli-userscript/raw/master/eli.user.js

It should auto-update anyway but if that's not working - visiting that URL will always get you the latest :)

Indeed - but in this case it just messes with your script settings until someone manually fixes it :)

I'll get around to doing a replace for all of the random stuff that breaks in the names of quick links and categories at some point but basic functionality first ;p

Speaking of which... v2.5.1 has a new setting (on by default) that has Quick Links external to Elli open in a new tab :)

And now... bed before I decide to embark on making the proper Quick Link edit page...

Yes - it was Snippets that made me dive back in rather than wait for a final state of New-Elliquiy :)

I think it's @Nowherewoman that needs to credit for architecting them :)  She did a lot of feeding me ideas for me to code-monkey up :)

I may be missing something, most of the script works just fine for me - except Snippets. I've got them enabled, but I don't see a menu for them when posting, and attempting to use them from the script menu doesn't seem to work either. I just want to see if it's just a me thing, or if others are having the same issue...

Are you using the Quick Reply box?  If so, snippets do not work there.  I might manage to get them working there in the future.

You certainly may.

Snippets adds a menu to the post reply edit box - either on the right-click menu or in the top right.  You can added 'snippets' to it, blocks of text and formatting that you want to reuse and then when you select that snippet from the menu, it pastes it into the reply box, where the cursor is.

I use a lot because I like to have pictures of active characters in the posts to a) break up the text and b) help with my aphantasia.

It doesn't currently work in quick reply boxes, and you have to have your reply box set to source view rather than the default, but I think those are the only limitations :)

At some point, I'll badger someone more competent than me into doing documentation for the script :)
