Would only be allowing one Battle Sister aspirant; and please keep in mind my desire for a varied Warband - you're going to need it. ;) (To survive the horrors of the Sector, you'll need to have a group that can handle any kind of situation.)

Exactly why I make multiple concepts.

well im thinking battle sister but more range gun nut type. but not sure i'll be in. sooo yeah.

I'll probably work up both my concepts and see what happens so go for it Chris.

I have a couple of ideas, either smart person Heretek Penitent, or Adeptus ... or Psyker Mystic. Sanctioned, though, probably heading or starting as an Astropath.
Navy Ace did come up but I have no idea if that'd be a relevant role at all. Possibly a Mechanicus Chirugen in the Felicia Tayber mould.

Mmm I do so love 40k.

Watches happily.

Pumpkin Seeds

Need to get a nice character sheet and can submit my character idea.

Thinking Meredith Cross will be her name.  Going with Hive World, Outcast, Seeker.  Will work for food.

Nice!

If you guys can determine through your own discussions which concepts you'd like and put forwards a list of characters for a Warband of 4 players, I will then move us over to the other thread to begin working on this in earnest.

Avalon29

Sooo ended up with 3 possible concepts and did a work up of them. None are finished and still need the important details like names or gender and how starter xp will be spent but wanted to give people a look at what I was thinking and what the characters concepts would be like and what direction mechanically they would be going in. I may have gone just a tiny bit overboard in my eagerness.

Adepta Soritas  Chirurgeon

Originally a member of the Adepta Soritas as a member of the Order of Hospitalier she has seen firsthand the horrors of the battlefield and it has only increased her devotion to the Emperor. She saw wounds and death on a daily basis and had to defend herself with whatever was handy on more than one occasion. However despite her skill for healing, not to mention her ability to bash in the head of a cultist with a nearby table leg, she had a less than ideal bedside manner and was more focused on the dead then the living.

She was eventually moved to the Order Vespila where her talents could be put to better use. She was more satisfied with her post there amongst the dead. Her experience on the battlefield made her well acquainted with the various ways a person could be  killed made her well suited to provide occasional assistance to investigation by providing forensics no matter how gruesome the body. After being brought on to assist one such investigation by the inquisitors  she was brought on in a more permanent capacity.

Born on an Imperial research station that focused on studies of the warp and  how it affects man during space travel it fostered an early interest in knowledge and just a small peek beyond realm of man and just how insidious it could really be. They were determined to study, learn it, and apply its secrets for the Imperium of Man just like every other member of the station. They were slated to take their parents place but before that could happen they were drafted into the Imperial Guard as a scout.

When the forces of Chaos the guardsman got a first hand look at what the warp could do and they despised them. They began to apply what they learned at the research station to put that knowledge and techniques they learned to good use. Approaching the task of eliminating them scientifically if approaching death somewhat flippantly,  study them usually corpses,  gather data on weaknesses by  any means necessary, and testing by putting a las round between their eyes.

Extra note: Originally was going to be an Arbites or Telepathica but really wanted to grab both Knowledge and Intelligence so Imperial Guard it is.

Born on a planet with low technology and much superstition. Witches were a common sight and just as commonly burned. Hatred for these being and their witchcraft was engrained in all aspects of life. Therefor when it was discovered that they contained these powers they were filled with both guilt and fear. They spent time hiding their powers but nobody could hide forever but it was not the mob that came for them but black ships flying out of the sky that came for them.

They took surprisingly well to the training. Studies went surprisingly well despite coming from a backwater world and their natural gifts let them excel in the more physical applications of their abilities. Their hatred of their fellows who fell to Chaos never faded despite a normally gregarious nature and their paths began to turn towards it, using their gift and new found studies to hunt down the sorcerors of chaos and smite them down. This is what drew the attention of the Inquistors and why they were shipped off to Calixis to help with the fight there.

Extra note: Psyker discipline focuses would be Biomancy and Sanctic Daemonology if I go down this route.

JoanieSappho

A couple of the ideas appealed to me, so I did a rough start of them. Same as Avalon, no starting xp spent yet.

Heretek Penitent

Home world: Research World
Background: Heretek
Role: Penitent

Aptitudes: Agility, Fieldcraft, Intelligence, Offence, Toughness, Knowledge
Weapon skill 35
Balistic Skill: 25
Strength: 35

Born on a isolated research station supposedly under the control of the Adeptus Mechanicus, they were raised both with the usual Mechanicus beliefs in order to seem correct and orthodox, and the more esoteric philosophies of the group that raised her to continue their study of ancient pre-Heresy technology. While quite appropriate in their hatred of xenos and corrupted artifacts, she was exposed to forbidden to far more archaeotech than anyone really should have.

While those who taught her the tenets of the machine cult had done so in order to enable her to blend in, to pass without betray her -and their - true nature, she had grown up believing those things as much as she had absorbed their more hereteknical leanings. Still, she ensured that the correct authorities learned of the true nature of her home station and, while considered tainted she was, eventually, deemed to not be unrecoverable.
Possessing both unconventional knowledge and the proper self-loathing and penitent nature for those transgressions, she is very happy to be able to be of use to an inquisitor.

Imperial Navy Ace

Home world: Quarantine World
Background: Imperial Navy
Role: Ace
Aptitudes:  Offence, Agility, Finesse, Perception, Technology, Willpower, Fieldcraft
Starting stats

Strength: 20
Toughness: 30
Agility: 40
Intelligence 35
Perception 35
Willpower: 35
Fellowship 25
Influence 30

Born in orbit of a world condemned for reasons that they neither know nor wish to know, they  were raised first on the decks of their ship then in the cockpits of the craft used to ensure that the quarantined world remained cut off from the rest of the galaxy.
Obedient, skilled with air and void craft, their lack of questioning and willingness to do just as they were told without trying even idly to think of why were their greatest assets, followed closely by their ability to keep what little they did know to themselves.

Being able to pilot or drive most things, combined with obedience and silence regarding sensitive matters made them seem rather useful to an Inquisitor who might need to get places in a hurry.

Avalon29

Oh those ideas both sound fun Joanie. Penitent are certainly an interesting role. I wouldn't have thought of mixing the two before but it looks like a really fun combo.

The operative looks like fun too. Could always use a wheel woman or air woman in this case. She looks like she'd be great fun as well.

Meredith Cross is a great name Pumpkin. Certainly interested in seeing what the criminal/scum seeker will look like!

LaughingOne's Lady Haka looks like a fun character too. Always good to have a face around to handle the questioning and get in a little more subtly.

Anybody have any thoughts on my concepts? Any particular one they like?

Pumpkin Seeds

I'm liking the feral psyker.  Just seems a neat counter point to where people usually go with the psyker thing.

TheLaughingOne

So, im intent on Haka, but cause i got bored, and found these cool pictures..

Gun knight. Feral world arbites. Hehe. Just an idea that tickled me but hasnt spawned much more idea...

Malkavian

Feral psyker sounds cool, and the Warband could always benefit form having a Prime - a lead or face that will drive it socially and morally.

Just keep in mind - and I only restate this because 40K is a setting of extreme reactions - that whilst the Inquisitor is eager for more agents he is still a Puritan, so be sure that your character ideas aren't the kind of things that would cause such a Throne Agent to react in a fatal way. This isn't aimed at any concepts shared so far as it is a general reminder.

Once everyone has settled on a final concept (post-discussion with the others to ensure a more evenly-rounded Warband) I'll finalise the player list and move us to the OOC Thread.

Two things to keep in mind:

  • I will be aiming for 4 players, but will consider 5 if the concepts are suitably appealing/mesh well with the others; and
  • I'd like people to let me know what prewritten Dark Heresy scenarios - of either edition - they have read/run/played before, as I might use material or stories from some to begin with in order to get us moving whilst I finalise the notes on my own storylines for the game.

TheLaughingOne

Heylo! I have not played in any written scenarios or suh! Or read them.

Since the Psyker seems pretty well liked I think I’ll go with that and save the others as potential backups for later.

This is my first time making a pyker though so I’d like some opinions from those who have a bit more experience with the system and Psykers. I’m debating the pros and cons of the Perception aptitude and Astropath. On one hand I could keep the perception aptitude and keep them just a regular sanctified psyker. On the other hand I could take Astropath and get away with Defense or Intelligence to replace perception but it’s big initial investment. Any thoughts?

Edit: Also never played or read any of the scenarios before.

Chrisking777

I havnt played any of the dark heresy senerios i have a couple the only one i kind read long time ago was the demo adventure from 1e dark heresy. I only remember there was a character naned rat who was useless as all hell. But that it dont remember much else.

Would like to know if im in or not im leaning gun nut sister as i think we dont have any ranged fighters? I can make a sheet later if im in.

JoanieSappho

I can't remember the name of the adventure, but I have vague memories of one on some hive where a hospice or shelter or something was taking people in then doing biological experiments to them. I forget most of the details, anyway.
And I think I'll do the penitent unless issues. Smart smashy girl shall be fun.

Urbanzorro

Are you still accepting players?

Okay, I've had a few people express interest, but the following people have provided me the most well-rounded concepts (and in a few cases PM'd me more info to work with). Since I can't accept everybody, these are the ones I'll be going with:

Avalon29, TheLaughingOne, Pumpkin Seeds, JoanieSappho

Sorry for those who also wanted in; I find it easiest to manage four players, and the ideas and info sent me from the above was more readily complete.

To those guys mentioned above, please jump over to the Dark Heresy OOC Thread and then continue discussing your concepts there. Be sure to work together to create a well-rounded Warband that covers enough areas to be diverse; once this is done, and you're ready to make characters on a statistical level, we'll get a Character Sheet template made up for you all to fill in.

Avalon29

Will do!

Also a question, do we have a 4th player? I only see 3 listed. Just wondering if there's going to be one more or not.

Sorry! I had included the fourth name, but apparently cut it out when I added the bold BBCode.

OH

Well, that's a pleasant surprise, I thought I hadn't gotten in.
