Brochures showcase images of the Beaux Arts-styled buildings and of diverse, smiling faces, including a student with a "Free Hugs" T-shirt to reflect a friendly atmosphere. Whether it is authentic or merely a marketing tool, that perception might vary depending on whom you ask. One thing is for certain: someone is bound to find their own niche at Baymont University, between a thriving Greek community, sports, and a myriad of other groups someone might discover among a body of 18,000 undergraduates.

But life is rarely mirrored by brochures. Wrong paths, dreams shattered, and lives ruined may await students and faculty alike.

The Setting

Baymont is a public university situated a few miles inland from the San Francisco Bay, on the western side of San Mateo. Founded in 1917, the campus offers many majors, ranging from the arts and humanities to business and STEM. The school colors are navy and dark goldenrod, and its mascot Zeus the Lion supports the school's Division I athletes on their road to victory. Greek Row sits along campus and is a notable part of the community, from parties to philanthropy, with fingers perhaps also in other facets of student life.

The university provides a couple of housing options for the would-be student. Sunset Apartments offers a more independent style of living, if someone wants to shell out the extra cash for an off-campus place.

The Rules

  • Follow Elliquiy's rules.
  • The GM is Mellific.
  • We are LGBTLMNOP-friendly. Cross-gender writing also will be accepted.
  • This will be a sandbox game set at a fictional university. The GM(s) may occasionally create events to bring characters together or to shape the campus' development, but the story will largely rest in each player's hands.
  • This group is not meant for endless smut, nor is it necessarily meant to fulfill a fantasy of college life, and is instead a setting in which story-focused players can partake in a variety of plots as they desire, exploring their character's highs and lows over the course of an academic year. Romance and some level of smut can and probably will happen--this is college after all. It's equally fine if some arcs are smutty, but if you're only interested in writing out some form of smut, this group will not be a good fit. Please look elsewhere.
  • The only drama we desire is of the IC variety. Be respectful to everyone OOC. This also means no unsolicited criticisms of another player's character or writing style. We want a friendly, easygoing atmosphere in the group. Anyone who disrupts that will be asked to leave.
  • Especially do not tell someone else who they can or can't write with. That goes against Elliquiy's possessiveness rule.
  • This group is in the non-con board so that players can have more freedom if they so choose. Anyone is welcome to join this game regardless of their personal limits. Even if a scene is non-con, a player must still give consent, and their O/Os must be respected.
  • Because of the previous, players must have O/Os set up if they wish to join.
  • In terms of non-sexual content, this group will allow for heavier themes, including, but not limited to, drug abuse, hazing, and dating violence. Again, nothing should be forced on a player (and their character) without their consent. The group will use post headers so that readers can be warned about content they might wish to skip.
  • Posts should be long enough to provide insight into the character, to describe their surroundings, and, most importantly, to advance the scene. For that reason, every response should be at least one paragraph. Please write in third person.
  • At least one post a week is preferred, but try to post at least once within a two-week period. It's understandable when someone needs more time due to real life, though. To an extent, it's also understandable when muses are acting up, as long as you are being communicative to the group, but in this case, the other players may be permitted to skip you by the end of the third week in the interest of being fair to them. Consistent, excessive slowness of more than 2-3 weeks, at least without a real-life cause, will be addressed in a way that is deemed the most appropriate by the GM(s) if it's decided to be detrimental to the group.
  • Poking for posts is one of the leading causes of muse fatalities. Don't do it! Protect the fragile species! The GM(s) will check with players if they haven't been active in the OOC or IC for two weeks, and if their A/As do not suggest why. If a player drops out with no hint of a return, or if they fail to respond to the PM in a few days, while still being active elsewhere, the GM(s) reserve the right to do as they see fit to the player's character(s). This includes allowing someone to adopt said character, with tweaks if they desire (and with proper credit given to the original writer), so that continuity can be retained. If a player has become inactive on E as a whole, and a week has passed since the PM was sent, their character(s) will be marked as inactive to be fair to them, and their characters will also be removed from scenes as necessary.
  • No complaining/pestering if someone posts in another scene before yours. It's understandable that waiting can be hard when the muse is on fire, but patience is a virtue.

On the flip side, please try to treat all scenes you're involved in fairly. It's understandable that the muse may be in the mood for certain scenes over others, but try not to keep any one scene waiting for too long. If responding to a scene might take a while, at least consider notifying the other person so they know you are aware that you still owe a post.
  • Understand that IC and OOC are two distinct, separate realms, meaning:

    • IC should not be taken personally. Players are not their characters, which means their views of the world, or opinion of another character, aren't necessarily the same.
    • Don't inject OOC knowledge into the IC; just because you know something doesn't necessarily mean your character does.
  • No controlling another player's character or auto-hitting without that player's permission.
  • To make the OOC a friendly, inclusive space, let's leave politics, negativity, and overly sexual/flirtatious talk to the respective boards/threads on E.
  • No images of nudity or other X-rated content, please. This goes for both IC and OOC.
  • If an idea might substantially affect the game (e.g., something that could generate headlines for the university), please contact the GM(s) first. The GM(s) can reserve the right to decline an idea, but in most cases, the communication is simply to give them a chance to prepare and to ensure nothing conflicts.
  • Because these kinds of things can be overlooked in an active OOC, there will be a thread specifically for plotting, discussing connections, and requesting ideas. It's also there for those who are more comfortable posting in a thread than sending a PM. Even if you aren't one of those people, please consider poking your head into the thread on occasion. It could lead to a character connection, or even a friendship with another player, that you would otherwise miss out on. You never know!

Character Sheets

You can find the code for the sheet and reserved face claims in the Characters thread. You might also find loose, possible concepts for new characters listed there for brainstorming purposes. Please PM characters to the GM(s) for review.

Alpha Tau Nu, one of the fraternities, might be a bit...rough. There could be some fun to be had for anyone who might tentatively be interested in having their character pledge. PM if you'd like to discuss!

Neo In Matrix

Seems Interesting. WOuld it be okay if I create a character, of a foreigner, probably arab shemale, and expect rough treatment, including hazing, bullying etc from some people. And some friendship, affair and stuff?

Apologies. Slow posting due to workload. But trying to match uo will quickly do. Thanks for your patience. .!!! :)

Hey, Gnothi!

Neo, not sure if you're aware or not, but 'shemale' is a highly offensive term.

Oh. I am so sorry. I had no idea. Is transsexual correct term?

Hey Neo!

The group definitely welcomes characters of all walks of life. Gender identity can be a sensitive topic for some people, though, and we want players to make an honest effort at portraying the characters they write. I think you are being sincere with your apology and that you probably didn't know. Amaris has volunteered to talk to you about your concept and try to help you understand a little more about gender identity. She will probably PM you sometime today. :-) Kye mentioned that she would be happy to discuss with you, too, and there is also this thread in the LGBTQA board, where others on E would probably be happy to answer any questions you may have if you honestly want to learn. That thread also has a few links a few posts down.

Edit: I overlooked this thread earlier, which has additional resources linked.

I'm a little torn with changing him up, I'll have a think. :>
