The Story

In the time where pirates ruled the seven Seas, there were two captains more notorious, more fierce than any other. Richard Morgan, a cruel and merciless man, and Rose de Courtenay, a woman with hair as fiery as her spirit, both commanded the vessels that were the bane of the Royal Navy, La Royale and the Spanish Armada. Feared by naval ships, mercenaries and fellow pirates alike, they were the ones who captured the vessels with the most precious cargo, who dauntlessly attacked port towns and who braved the most perilous challenges of the oceans itself to retrieve the lost treasures of old. Caught in an endless competition to be the most legendary pirate to ever live, they co-existed in relative peace, each Captain respectful of the other’s reputation. Until the day came that they set their sights on the same treasure.

The Santa Maria was an old myth that held some truth but was long considered unretrievable. When a map inexplicably emerged in one of the Caribbean port towns, a crafty merchant sold two copies; one to Captain Morgan, the other to Captain de Courtenay. The two pirates and their crew faced the most impossible of trials and lost several of their men along the way. In the end it was the Esperanza, Rose de Courtenay’s frigate, who stole away the treasure before her rival's Grim Horizon could reach it. And Morgan was a sore loser.

Although pirates were, by nature, lawless fiends, they adhered to a certain code. After suffering his defeat, however, Richard Morgan thirsted for revenge. One day, when Captain de Courtenay returned to the small island where she kept her most safeguarded treasure - her family -  she was met with a sight that went beyond nightmare. The massacre that had taken place drove Rose to the brink of madness, but although there was no wondering what soulless monster was to blame, the Grim Horizon was nowhere to be found. Months followed in which the Esperanza, its captain hellbent on revenge, scoured the seven seas but could not find the treacherous captain Morgan. Ultimately the Esperanza made port at a pirate dominated town, where Rose offered each crewman and woman their fare share of the treasure they had won over the years and ended their service.

Then, she and her ship disappeared.

Four years passed, and while the sea merchants finally breathed more easily, a sense of forebodance lingered among pirates. No one knew what had happened to either of the pirate Captains, and dark rumours were spreading like black tendrils to all ends of the oceans. Ships returned from their journeys, claiming sightings of ghost ships, but no one ever managed to figure out where they had disappeared off to. That was, until one day when the Esperanza made anchor at Port Royal, and from it emerged Rosette de Courtenay, alive as ever. And she was looking for a crew, one to find a treasure that few dared believed even existed; the lost treasure of the Flor de La Mar.

Hi everyone! I'm hoping to start a pirate adventure, that will have some elements of fantasy to it. Think Sinbad, think the Odyssee, actually, just think of myths and legends from all kinds of backgrounds that can, may or will be used to make the search for the fabled Flor de La Mar an exciting and perilous journey. It will be story-driven, but there will be plenty of room to explore life on board a pirate ship, interacting and making port at towns and who-knows-where.

This story will mainly take place aboard the Esperanza, a full-rigged, 97ft. long frigate boasting 34 cannons and with a capacity of 125 crewmen, or passengers. As you might expect with a female captain, she's not wary of old wives tales and female sailors are more than welcome, as are people of all sexual preferences, from all backgrounds. And while the story is loosely based on the Golden Era of Piracy, it's more for reference; don't worry about reality too much when you'll be fighting sea monsters and kissing mermaids and whatnot.

Anyway, thank you for reading this! I hope that this interests at least some of you, and if so, then I'll put up a CS soon and add some more information!

Edit 02/12/2019: Added the CS and OOC page.

Edit 02/13/2019: Please note that the story will start in Port Royal. A day after the Esperanza makes port at the infamous pirate city, Captain de Courtenay's right hand man, Liam Scott, will gather a crew, either by seeking out old crewmembers or enlisting new ones. The RP will start on the morning of the Esperanza's departure. Your characters will arrive at the harbour, board the ship and it will be the first time you meet the Captain (excluding the old crewmembers, of course).

Yay, thank you for showing interest!

I went ahead and added the Character Sheet code. It's pretty straightforward, really. If anyone already wants to make one, please PM it to me! Thanks ;D

I'm in.  Right now I'm thinking of either a posh girl who has escaped her high-born life or a native Caribbean girl who serves as a guide and hunter.

Captain Whitebread

Oh the possibilities.

I'm going to have to drop a few in order to play in all the games I want to be in....

Now I just need to figure out who would sign onto a ship with the devil's daughter.

someone with nothing to lose

someone running from something even worse

someone too crazy or too stupid to recognize the danger

Dibs on the knife throwing ginger rigger who spends most of his time in the crows nest.

I'm really happy to see you are interested! I'm currently working on finishing my own Character sheets as well as setting up the OOC. I've already gotten some PM's, but so far the only positions taken are the first mate (NPC) and the Quartermaster.

You guys are all great!

A Working Progress.             Posting responses are: Slow.    Updated

Hello Levi and Kitten ;D

I put up the threads with Character sheets and the OoC. I've seen a few works in progress and even a complete character profile already. Please PM me any character you might have first, so I can make sure we don't have two pirates wanting to do the same job!

I've thrown my hat in for the role of navigator/helmsmen aka sailmaster.

He's a disgraced former Royal Navy rising star brought low by his own hubris.

Hey Gannameade!  It's been what, three posts since we last met?

What's up home team!  Seem like we have similar interests here.

Welcome aboard.

I received a few more characters, and they're all absolutely brilliant! I will add them to the list in the top post of the Character Sheet thread in a moment, please check the list for positions that have already been taken.

Oh, and I'm not sure that I explained where the  RP is going to take off.  So please note that the story will start in Port Royal.

Good morning everyone ;D

We've got eight characters now, and I know there's still three in the making. Which is good, pirate ship needs a decent crew! I am going to be working on the IC though, which should be up somewhere during the weekend. The story starts at Port Royal on the day of the Esperanza's departure, and while it will easily be a week (realtime) before the ship actually sets off, I just want to remind people that if they would like to join, please create a character or let me know your intentions so I can take it into account.

Though if anyone wants to join at another date, I'm sure I can creatively come up with something, and otherwise the Esperanza will definitely be dropping anchor at another port town eventually!

This is so tempting.  I thought that the game had filled up...
We few, we happy few, we band of writers;
For they this day that share words with me
Shall be my fellow; be they ne'er so vile,
