This wand has actually been constructed by Ollivander’s grandfather, Gerbold, and has gathered dust into the shop for almost a lifetime before pairing itself with young Andrew (Ollivander actually went through nearly one third of the wands in his possession before resorting to that one). While romantically inclined people could think that destiny might have been involved in that event, Ollivander’s opinion is simply that the wand has been incredibly picky about his owner for all those years. Truth be told, the extreme adaptability of the walnut wood and the quick wits of its dragon core seem the perfect match for Andrew’s personality. The wand is rather plain with a simple handle, having been made for precision and solidity rather than for visual impression. Right now, he is trying to train himself in being impersrutable and poker faced so to enter the right mindset. Once he feels confident enough he will try to learn that skill from his uncle Andrew duels as often as he can. He would like to improve his dueling skills. Familiar: Ghost is a great grey owl and is Andrew's personal owl. He's one of the biggest hatchlings to old Scylla, Polifemus McDibble's owl. As his mother, he is rather ill tempered and tends to attack other animals if disturbed. He has been trained, though, to avoid scruffles with other owls in Hogwarts' barn. He is rather fond of Andrew and likes to perch near him, shooting malevolent glares all around. He is attracted to books and although he cannot obviously read, he likes to intently look at them from above his master's shoulder. Personality

Inquisitive one could say that “knowledge is power” and Andrew would surely agree… but that is not the point, on him. The point is that Andrew likes to get to know the world deeper and deeper and solve arcane and complicated mysteries. There is nothing that pleases him more than eventually getting to the solution of a difficult problem, especially if he had to use his deductive abilities to get to it… and this is actually one of the reasons for his nickname “Sherlock”. Stubborn and relentless one thing that can be said about Andrew is that when he sets himself on something, he becomes as unyielding as his wand. He is known to spend weeks over a single unsolved problem in order to get to the solution. This kind of stubbornness often leaks over Andrew’s real life relationships, since when he is extremely difficult to sway from his own convictions. Cold it is really very difficult to have Andrew show any kind of warmness and sense of humor, although he can drop the odd wicked joke from time to time. He generally tries not to be offensive (since offending people usually means subsequently wasting time bitching) but he never goes much over that. It needs a lot of sweat to work a smile out of him. Brave if the prize is worth it, Andrew is definitely willing to face dangers. It is important to notice that he is not a daredevil, since he always makes a good assessment of the risk/result ratio… as long as in his mind the achievement he wants to make is important enough, he is easily willing to risk his life for it. Rational Andrew likes to have strong foundations over which to build his thinking. Being a wizard does not mean that you snap your fingers and turn things into gummy bears with a “plop” noise. Wizardry and life in general is not a toy for mindless children and it is important to always follow logic when you do things.

A Little Deeper

Andrew is a bookworm, there is no arguing about that. Still, he likes to go out of his shelter and walk amongst trees if at all possible since this remembers him of his childhood in the Inverfarigaig village. He was used to make long walks with his mother and sister in the woods that surrounded the McDibble manor and he is actually very good at finding his way out of forests, no matter how thick. Andrew has always been used to spend his free time reading... but there have been moments in his life in which he felt the need to do something to keep occupied his fingers rather than his eyes. That is how his drawing abilities became more than passable... he especially likes drawing interesting plants and animals for his studies. He rarely draws fellow human beings although he is capable to do that... he does so only if he is very interested in the subject for soime reason. He is very good at playing the bagpipe, a skill that he has learned from his uncle Polifemus. He does not usually play that instrument in public, tho. Andrew is the firstborn son of notable witch Belladonna McDibble and Edward Fidelius Doyle, an exceptionally gifted potion maker with a mysterious past. There is something to be said about the McDibbles.. an old pureblood Slytherin-oriented family who allegedly did not ally with Voldermort both during his rise and his return, the iron fist leadership of now deceased Briareos McDibble saw that the family remained true to its independency and his brother and current family leader Polifemus is definitely dead set on the same trail. The McDibbles are a difficult family to be born into and Andrew didn’t enjoy an exactly easy childhood in the McDibble manor near the Inverifaigaig village in Scotland. The fact that the boy had been born gifted with a sharp intellect and a stubborn personality didn’t help at all as this seemed to arouse his uncle Polifemus’ interest. For the best part of his own youth, Andrew had been groomed to eventually have a claim on the family’s leadership… and that meant a lot of hardships to be endured. Truth be told, Andrew was not the kind to complain much about hardships as long as them involved studying interesting things like magic. His stubbornness was honed to the point of being steel-sharp since as long as his uncle was concerned, failure was not an option when setting on a task. What actually weighed a lot on Andrew’s life were his family’s attitude on him… he eventually ended up developing extremely controversial relationships with each one of them, with the exception of his little sister Magentia for which he felt only unbridled love and protectiveness. Arguably, the worst and best moment in Andrew’s life was when the Sorting hat assigned him to Ravenclaw House in Hogwarts. Until then, the vast majority of the notable members of the McDibble family have been Slytherin and his mother feared that Andrew being a Ravenclaw could prevent it to eventually become the leader of their house. Andrew saw Belladonna McDibble almost snap in two when he came back with the news… and then subsequently he saw his own fearsome uncle Polifemus step forward and congratulate with him, taking everyone completely by surprise. It seemed that after all, he was still in the good graces of his great uncle… …Andrew rarely thinks about that day. It is one of the few memories that has the power of making him anxious… And so, now he is a Hogwarts and the school is for him something akin to a paradise since it allows him to be away from his overwhelming family. In Hogwarts, Andrew can follow his own counsel and hoard knowledge in order to find out all the secrets of wizardry. And one day… one day, he’ll be able to face his uncle and wrestle from him the secrets of his own family.

Relationships

What you should know if you are interested in me I am difficult to notice, I know that. Being a quiet person and having a penchant for staying still does that to you, especially if also you like to sit in quiet and secluded places too. But the trick is mainly the stillness… it is incredible how quickly you become a part of the furniture if you stay conveniently still. To be perfectly frank, I am rather okay in being part of the furniture, especially in a crowded place. It is not likely that me and you have that many topics to talk about anyways. I mean, I do not like talking about my family and my youth. I also hail from a Scotland village that you probably have never heard of and about which there is nothing of interest to tell (unless your hobby is listening to descriptions of nondescript places). Nearly all of my life’s experiences are either not your business or not worth telling. Add to this the fact that I usually am busy either studying or making some research and you’ll see the problem. I like being alone mostly of the time. I am not exactly an antisocial, though… I have no qualms of being in someone else’s company if that persons knows how to behave. A little tip… do not push your friendliness too far with me. If you aren’t obnoxious, what you are guaranteed to obtain from Andrew Christopher Doyle is an attempt at being civil.. friendship is something that happens by itself with (a lot of) time so no need to think about it. Let’s just wait and see what happens… I’d rather have few reliable friends than many friends-wannabe. More tips about me: I tend to react rather badly if my personal space is bluntly violated… if you are especially rude I am actually not above resorting to the odd jinx to show you proper manners. Also I like being frank and this may at times mean being blunt, depending on the circumstances. If you want to really interest me, your best choice is to come out with a riddle of any kind… I love them! There’s nothing like a good riddle to smooth the frown away from my face. I guess this is what you should know, at least for starters. Everything else will come with time. Ah, and I am an observant person so if you notice me, chances are that I have already noticed you. You are warned.

The One Most Important Merlina Caliburn Ravenclaw 1st Year My thoughts on You: People can pass years side to side with me without managing to break my shell whereas you need only to smile and look at me the way you do. You managed to unfreeze my heart and bring out a part of me that I honestly thought didn't exist. You taught me how to make friends, how to laugh and how to love. You took my heart in exchange for that but hey, it is more than fair a price to pay. I don't know what the future has in store for us... but I know that no matter what happens, I will always be at your side. Your thoughts on me: My absolute favourite book in all the world is Alice in Wonderland and when I think of it now and think of you, one line stands out for me... 'I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.' You have opened my eyes to much and opened my heart to more. I have more faults than I can count and yet you love me. I am the most imperfect of creatures and yet I feel close to perfection when I am with you. Before you I had lost my muchness, with you I have found it ... I am 'muchier' once more.

Friends Leila Moore Hufflepuff 1st Year My thoughts on You:She has always been the ideal study companion for me... not only because she knows how to behave but also because we seem to empathize a lot. We both like quiet places and there is almost no need to talk when we are together... usually a nod of the head or a glance is enough to have the other one pass a book or have a look at a particularly cryptic passage in order to offer an opinion. Recently we have started to open with each other just a little bit.. and I am finding out that my connection with her is much stronger that I imagined. She is one of those few that are important friends for me.

Natalie Brewster Ravenclaw 2nd Year My thoughts on You:Our first meeting didn't go really well and I remember I filed her amongst the 'unsettling' people. Then, we happened to meet again and save each other's life a handful of times.. which actually does wonders in the province of reconsidering relationships. Now I know your true self and I will be your friend forever... and I will see if I manage to help you out of that protective shell that encases your soul.. a shell so much alike the one I was used to wear not much long ago.

Phoebe Carter Gryffindor 1st Year My thoughts on You: I think it could not exist a more unlikely friendship than the one between me and Phoebe Carter. I think that we are so much each other's opposite that we ended up sort of attracted. She is wild and uncontrollable and always a potential source of trouble... but she also wear her heart on her sleeve and I know I can trust her on never letting me down. There are moments in which I would rather have her at my side than many other older and more experienced students.

Ignacio Aguilar Ravenclaw 1st Year My thoughts on You: Ignacio is one of those party types who behaves as if he is the friend (or, in his case, the "bro") of everybody. A lot of people in my personal "jerks" list behave like that. Still, I have to admit that after having Iggy for some time in my same dorm room I started to realize that he has worth. He is reliable, for example, and he faces the consequences of his actions with a grin on his face. Being forced to share the same vital space with Ignacio means either killing him or becoming his friend... and I do not kill fellow Ravenclaws without a good reason.

Acquaintances Violina Prewett Gryffindor 1st Year My thoughts on You: The first time I met her in the Dragon Nursery, I have to admit that I had some difficulty in recognizing her as a pureblood. So outgoing, so friendly looking and so ready to smile.. there are probably muggles more uptight than Violina Prewett. Still, she has her own share of personal pain hidden under her shell of friendliness and apparently I have gained enough of her trust to actually get shown a bit of it. She is a person I wouldn't mind eventually being able to call "friend"

Andersen Evers Hufflepuff 2nd Year My thoughts on You: For some reason, I feel a strange sense of camaraderie for this Hufflepuff guy. I do not exactly know why since we do not seem to have much in common... still, Andersen has a great strength of will and once he manages to focus on something he is relentless. He is also a loyal friend for those who can manage to break his shell. For this, I respect him.

Emily Stone Hufflepuff 1st Year My thoughts on You: What kind of relationship one can start with someone he meets for the first time in a life or death situation? Emily is a shy and nice person although she has her own brand of inner strength.. I do not know if without the events in the Chamber of Secrets we would ever have opened to each other like we have done... Still I consider her acquaintance one of the few good things come out of that nighmarish adventure. I hope to get to know her better, with time.

Thaddeus Kennsington Ravenclaw 2nd Year My thoughts on You: You have always been the silent and respectful dorm mate. I liked you from the start because of this... funny isn't it that you ended up being the occupant of my dorm room who I actually knew less about? I know that I like your quiet courage and your sharp mind. Also, we saved each other's life and this is something that cannot be forgotten.

Jack Sullivan Gryffindor 2nd Year My thoughts on You: The kind of person who always seems to have something to demonstrate to others... although the truth is probably that he wants to demonstrate it to himself. A loyal person and one who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. A decent fellow and an honorable one... he has certanly my respect although due to our different upbringings, we end up talking different languages at times.

Frenemies Oliver Olivier Ravenclaw 1st Year My thoughts on You: Decent and civil person. Really nothing bad to say about him. Then, why I tend to get slightly annoyed everytime I get to see him or talk to him? The only reason that comes to mind would be that I am negatively affected by his compulsive 'nice guy' syndrome. Still this is not a valid reason for having an issue with someone. Is there something as 'gut dislike'? I really need to try and exercise more self control...

Tommy Undergallows Slytherin 1st Year My thoughts on You: Noticed him for the first time when Merlina Caliburn placed a well aimed slap on his face. Met him face to face later in a moment of great tension between me and my dorm mate Ignacio Aguilar. He didn't like me from the start and given his behavior I have to say that I return his feelings tenfold. He needs to be taught a lesson. I am not going out of my way to actually be the one who will teach it to him, but if the chance will happen in the future, I'll not back away either.

Jamie Campbell Slytherin 2nd Year My thoughts on You: According to the little I know about her, Miss Campbell is the kind of person who makes a point to be unpleasant with people just to see how they reacts. I believe that the muggle word for the likes of her is 'bitch'. The admittedly few interactions I have had with her did nothing to change this image in my mind. She also apparently seems to think of herself as an above average person. Everything is possible, I say, although one should also behave as such. I have to admit I am more than happy to keep my interactions with her at the bare minimum. One interaction more could be one too many. For her.

Professors Daniel Pruddtap Ravenclaw Head of House – Divination Professor My thoughts on You: My own Head of House and the only Hogwarts staff member who I actually trust enough to do as he says without even thinking twice. I sincerely don't know exactly why... he teaches a topic that i do not find congenial and he is certainly not the most powerful wizard in Hogwarts. Still.. every time I see him talking with students, even when he is rebuking them or giving them detention, I see how he has always their own welfare in mind. Professor Pruddtap is a wise man and a good man. Your thoughts on me: a serious and most clever individual. Often times I look upon Andrew and feel as if he bypassed adolescence and moved straight to adulthood. He is far wiser than his years but I find myself concerned about him more than I would others for this same reason. Much seems to weigh upon his shoulders when these are the years he should enjoy himself. All in all, he has potential for greatness providing he does not burn his candle too bright too soon.

Talyn Tseric nee Proudmane Griffyndor Head of House – Deputy Headmistress – University Potion Professor My thoughts on You: She is probably the female professor with which Hogwarts' students are most cautious with. She is fierce and a real force of nature when teaching is involved. She takes no bullshit and is the kind of smart professor who will often see through your ruses. And under all of this she is a caring and protective woman. Many of the students would rather have to do with the more outgoing staff members but I'd rather deal with her. I admit that the fact that she nows teaches only to university students has saddened me a bit. Your thoughts on me: There are quite a few students I miss teaching from the younger years and Andrew is most certainly one of these. His quiet and determined approach to any task given was always a pleasure to watch. A wonderful student, diligent, never tardy and always respectful. I like his no nonsense style very much and have always appreciated it. I know he will do well in life and in all that he puts his heart and mind to.

Varius Tseric Slytherin Head of House – DADA Professor – Dragonology Professor My thoughts on You: I do not know if "like" is the right word I can use with Varius Tseric. What i feel for him tends to go from utter awe and admiration to total annoyance. He is certainly a man of many secrets and one who had endured a lot... more than he will ever tell us probably. All in all he certainly has a way to intrigue me to no end. Also, his existence is sort of reassuring... I mean, if he has found a wife, then everyone (me included) has hopes, too!
