"It's like --
like being raped by a marshmallow,
is what it's like."
-James

Once upon a time there were three boys and a pansy.
Alright, four boys, but he still is a pansy.
Either way--the quartet were the grandest of anyone
that graced the hallways of Hogwarts.  They were
all incredibly dashing and women threw themselves
at their feet when they passed.  Despite their greatness
in all aspects of academia, they still managed to fall into
bouts of problematic situations due to the staff's inability
to realize just how utterly fantastic they were.  This usually
resulted in much hilarity, and 1976 wasn't going to be any
different.

Welcome to 6th year, mates.

----

terminology

"Merlin!  Merlin's Beard!  By the Founders!" -- "Oh my God!  Oh my Goodness!"

Gillyweed -- A common drug used by many a witch and wizard.  Has similar
effects to the muggle weed when smoked, but occasionally has side effects
of causing users to sprout gills for an hour or so.

Floo-Powder -- Often used as a form of traveling, but when sniffed, can
have similar effects as cocaine.  However, it has to be charmed and
can have some serious side effects if not done properly.

Butterbeer -- A beverage of choice for younger wizards.  Has a very small
amount of alcohol and can only intoxicate someone if taken in very
large amounts, which means its not a particular favorite amongst our good
friends the Marauders.

Firewhiskey -- Alcoholic beverage that is illegal for wizards under the age of
seventeen to drink, but is anyone really going to follow the rules?

Burning Brandy -- Its stronger then Firewhiskey is all we're saying.

Pure-blood -- One who's parents are a witch and a wizard.  No matter if the
witch or the wizard themselves are muggle-born or half-blood, their offspring
are still considered "pure".  However, many of the "Purest" of families only
consider true Pure-bloods to be branched off of one of the great family
trees (such as Black, Meliflua, Lestrange, Malfoy etc...)

Half-blood -- One who's parents are a muggle and a witch or wizard.

Muggle-born -- One who's parents are both muggles, no matter if they
have history of magic further back in their family.

Squibs -- Those who are descendants of two magical folk (sometimes
one muggle and one wizard/witch) that did not obtain the magic
gene themselves.  Quite a rare mutation, though.

Half-breed -- Someone who has both human and some other creature's
blood.  The only creatures capable of breeding with humans are: goblins,
giants and Veela.  However, other creatures such as werewolves, centaurs
and merpeople are also known by this term.

The Swedish Short-Snouts -- A band who's fame is the equivalent of The Beatles
in the Wizarding World.  Originally hail from London.

Cauldron -- An underground band who perform at smaller clubs throughout Wizarding
England.  Originally hail from Scotland.

Zelda Hart -- A singer and Civil Rights activist for Half-breeds.

"Can't even keep your
clothes on without me."
- Remus

This is a roleplay for advanced roleplayers who are willing to
put energy in the quality and quantity of their posts.
They have a good understanding of both the Harry Potter world
and Marauder's era, meaning they must be willing to keep historical
accuracy since this game takes place in 1977.  Characters must
be played as they are, which means that NO, Lily Evans does not
yet fancy Mister Potter.  More ambiguous details, such as certain sexualities
of certain individuals (*coughremussiriuscough*) can be tweaked since
there is no actual proof claiming they're of a certain orientation.  (Tonks
was pretty manly, is all I'm saying).

If you decide to join, you must fill out an application and submit it via owl
PM to polaroids.  If its rejected, do not bitch about, because it'll get you
nowhere.  Once accepted, wait patiently for the roleplaying thread to be set up
as well as the posting order before responding.  Absences or urges to quit must
be reported ahead of time so a replacement can be found.

The roleplay begins before term, in Diagon Alley sometime in late August.

"That's not
what your mother
said last night."
-Sirius

prongs`
James Charles Potter
March 27, 1960
Quidditch Captain, Gryffindor
The unspoken leader of the Marauders, arrogant toe-rag,
Chaser, near-sighted which results in a need for those
glasses that only he manages to pull off, willowy,
untamable hair, hazel eyes you could just fall into
which many a young lady has mistakenly done save for
the one he has his attentions set upon.
xxxx
claimed by polaroids

padfoot`
Sirius Orion Black
October 22, 1959
Purebredblood, Gryffindor
The handsomest of the four although they'll never admit
it, skirt-chaser, stuffed full of snobbery despite his attempts
at pulling away from the lifestyle his mum is so keen on
enforcing upon her children, hair that seems to fall just
right in a way that no other boy could dream of
attempting, dark eyes that pierce your very soul (but
only if your female or bat for same team if you catch
my drift)
xxxx
claimed by chasinginfinity

moony`
Remus John Lupin
March 10, 1960
WEREWOLF Prefect, Gryffindor
The only one of the quartet that seems keen to
following at least some of the rules established
by the school, has a bit of a "furry lil' problem", a bit
on the humble side, often he looks like all color has been
drained out of his flesh and sirius often theorizes that
being a werewolf results in the lost of pigmentation, bruises
quite easily both physically and emotionally
xxxx
claimed by barding

wormtail`
Peter Patrick Pettigrew
June 3, 1960
Is there really anything special to put here?, Gryffindor
Everybody kind of forgets him including his three closest
friends, often can be found with his tail tucked between his
legs and no that was not implying something sexual, short
and stocky wouldn't hurt to lose a few, still has a bit of a
squeaky voice puberty hasn't really kicked in yet, loyal until
he leaves hogwarts and becomes a complete and utter rat
xxxx

evans`
Lily Rose Evans
January 30, 1960
Prefect & bitch, Gryffindor
That fiery young red-head that Potter just can't seem to
keep his eyes thoughts and hands off of, although
attractive she's probably the most annoying and bitchiest
little twat to ever roam the Hogwartian grounds, developed
a bit of a superiority complex but she'd never admit it, generally
kind unless you tick her off or its that time of the month and we're
not talking about moony time of the month but the other one
xxxx
claimed by vaudeville

sniv`
Severus "Snivellus" Snape
January 19, 1960
The Half-Blood Prince, Slytherin
A pinch of genius was sprinkled on him at birth, majority
of his peers except for a select few see him as the marauder's
chew toy, greasy should probably shower a bit more, in need
of a haircut as well as some shampoo, awkwardly shaped nose,
knows a bit too much about the dark arts and potions, obviously
fancies the pants off of the same exact red-head that potter has
set his sights on

I generally avoid HP RPs in the same manner I avoid HP fanfics. Vehemently. Obstinately. Always.

However your style, artsy setup and obvious commitment has appealed to me.

For 1976, remember this is Britain, the summer of punk and the ladybird plague.

HUGE ERROR.
HUGE ARGH I CANNOT BELIEVE I MADE THIS MISTAKE:

The year should be 1977, since the Marauders attended Hogwarts from 1971-1978.

Actually, I believe you had it correct the first time. The mauraders likely graduated in the spring of 1978 (so in the first half of the year.) Therefore, 1977 was the spring of Year Six. So if you wanted the rp to take place at the beginning of year six, because academic years straddle two calendar years, it would be 1976. If you count the other way, Year One would be 71-72, Year Two: 72-73, and so on until Year Six is 76-77.

Year six would start in September 1976, yes, right in the middle of that frightful heatwave that so surprised Britain that year. According to my mum it began to get very hot in May and stayed blisteringly hot and beautiful all through until October with a fine and mild Indian summer.

There were official drought conditions, hosepipe bans and England was plagued by lots of insect swarms, especially ladybirds.

There might of course have been a wizarding world reason for the freak weather?

1976 was also the summer of punk, punk music being born in England this year with the Jam, Sex Pistols, Stranglers and The Clash all starting up. It was a confusing rebellious time for muggle youth. Perhaps wizard music bands were a little influenced by this post-drug era musical face-spitting?

I'm tempted to play Lily if I may, though I need to read up on the Marauders period again as I'm a little rusty. Is there a good online resource for the Marauders do you know?

EDIT: I also wanted to add that I love the character photos you have selected, they all work extremely well. Some of the guys are terribly sexy.

I love how you are just a well of knowledge.
And although I'm sure its easy to blame wizards for our weather conditions, there are just some things they cannot control.  So we'll say it was Mother Nature after all.

"Cauldron" would most likely be one of the first Wizarding punk bands.  We could have them play at a club in Hogsmeade later on and all the characters could saunter on over to see them perform.

HP-lexicon usually has a lot of information, but most of my Maraudering experience comes from roleplaying them on the invisionfree boards for many years.  As in, every summer and vacation I go through a phase of obsessing over them.  But yeah, HP-Lexicon has everything.  Even criticisms/essays.

(I'm a stickler for finding perfect play-bys, heh.  Its from being on Invisionfree so long).

to join you can still PM me an application and I'll look it over once
I get back on the 29th.  Padfoot and Prongs are no longer
available but the rest of the cast is.  Moony and Evans are
top priority, whilst Wormtail and Sniv aren't really needed
until the school term begins.
