Quote from: Lomesa on October 26, 2023, 12:45:59 PMDon't know whether searchable forum tags would be feasible to implement, but I think it could make for much more specific categories for both requests and RP's and make specific content much easier to find.

Tags would be wonderful, but their biggest failing is getting people to use them, then comes deciding what is worthy of a tag, and what isn't. Do superheroes get a tag? Are superheroines separate? Do DC and Marvel get their own? Does mind control get one, but does Master PC deserve its own, or does it just fall under Mind control?

Do you let people pick their own tags? what happens when some people tag "superheroes" and some tag "super heroes" does it correct spelling? what happens if you tag "superheros"?

Al Terego

I was referring to predefined, searchable tags like "M for F", "F for NB", "NB for any", etc.

Definitely been thinking about this

Quote from: Al Terego on October 26, 2023, 12:34:29 PMMerge Exotic and BDSM as "kink"?

Vanilla, Kink, Non-con, Extreme.

If the goal is less forums:

"Consensual/Light" (merge light and Bdsm) and either merge non-con and extreme into "non-Consentual/Extreme" or have it be three categories: Consensual, non-Consentual, and Extreme. That lays out the general categories and what to expect without being too detailed or confusing when trying to decide where something should go.

Incidentally, couldn't completed tales go into a subforum in the section they were originally in? Keeps them in the private area and makes it so the titles don't have to be labeled when they're moved by Staff.

Def in favor of broadening bondage to "kink," I almost never choose to start a game in bondage because to me it's kind of a narrow category. I usually end up in NC/EX just in case shit happens so I don't have to bother a moderator later.

Will the archiving have to do with big boards too? I was curious if any of these changes would affect any of the rules/guidelines that are in place for big boards? So, I know there was mention of solos and small groups being changed into RPs that just have one thread vs. multiple and the multiple would get big board. Does that mean you wouldn't have to meet some of the other stated requirements? With the archiving and it being automatic, would that change some of the stipulations about how you can use your board? Like how you reboot or revamp? If you can get a big board just by having multiple threads, could you then in turn use an old board you had to make a different version of the game?

If this is the wrong place to ask this then please split this off! Reading through the thread gave me some questions and I thought I'd ask them but it might be the wrong place. Thank you!

Right. Basically we would work out is what needs to make sure they don't overwhelm the forum index, but the reasons boards were limited to games with over 1,000 posts haven't really applied to us for awhile.

This will take some work and further thought about how to make sure staff aren't overwhelmed.

There is a fairly well-built prefix mod.

With it I could combine all of the non-Public boards, except (possibly) extreme.

Question being what prefixes to divide it into.

Are the prefixes searchable?
Is it possible to add several prefixes to a thread?
Is it possible to require at least one prefix when posting to specific subforums?

There's also this

Quote"One Shots" is going to be joined by Completed Tales, CYOA, Storytelling, and Poetry. Will rename the category to... something. Stuff people can expect to read to a conclusion. Suggestions welcome. >_>

I'd suggest reconsidering this change. I for one have never seen a single instance of someone mixing completed work with work in progress. Whether we are discussing books or really any other form of project, people tend to keep completed stuff separately from stuff that's actively being worked on or pending. So, I believe that at the very least Completed Tales should remain a separate category. After all it's a collection of works that were completed here and a bit of settled Elliquiy history. I could understand joining it with CYOA games that have run their course and found their closure and even Poetry in the specific circumstance where a user has some significant volume of work they would want archived in that form. But I wouldn't do that for any two stanzas.

One Shots looks like a very active board so I'm  not sure I understand why the merging is necessary. Perhaps it can be renamed to  "Short Stories" if the name is causing confusion.
The Midnight Lodge (O2 thread & completed tales compendium)
Thy Nightly Chambers (requests) updated!
Amazonia Mythos (world-building details for some of my recurring themes and characters; can always serve as a starting point for discussions of collaborative writing)
Zerzura (albeit short, the best collaborative story I've ever completed here)

I think the plan is to combine those various boards as sub-boards in a new category rather than combining the individual contents, but I could be wrong.

Current status : Selectively seeking new stories

That would make a lot more sense. I must have completely misread the initial post.

Right. They're going into a category, not being forum-merged.

Since you are here Veks, any info on the font size? Is this the one we will use from now on or? Are we going back to a more standard (and more readable) one?

More random thoughts.

What is great about the One Shot Stories board that the other boards don’t already provide? Put the classified sticky in the one on one forum and place the resulting games in the appropriate category of light, bondage, nc, or extreme.

Solo and Small Group boards could be combined.

I think the GM corner, worldbuilding, and system gaming and roleplaying could all be merged together into a Roleplaying Discussion board that is very broad that also encompasses general roleplaying advice. Using appropriate closed/open tags could keep the discussion to the comfort level of the person making the thread.

The storytelling forum, storyteller’s cafe, and poetry forum are all different flavors of the same thing and could be combined. It could be combined with art, media, and music tbh. None of these forums have much activity other than Finders and Seekers which may warrant that becoming its own thing. Turn everything else into a Creative Corner board. The commission board could turn into a sticky that goes in here where people can post in one spot what their service is.

Edit: Maybe flipping the board. Finders and Seekers in the front with two sub-boards of Personal Writing and Art inside.

Forum contests and Elliquian Herald and Post seem to be old. This might be a hot take, but the E H&P doesn’t give anything that we can’t already see elsewhere on the site, and while I’m not opposed to a highlight reel it seems like a big labor of love that has little payout.

I think Choose Your Own Adventure and Cardboard Villainy recruitment should be in the GMs/Groups seeking roleplay section because these people are seeking people for an interactive writing experience. It’s not teeeeechnically a roleplay, sure, but it’s adjacent enough that I think it fits and it would get more eyes on the topics.

Hold down shift and reload if you don't see it, but is this better?

I was wondering why my custom title no longer fit without breaking words.

Speaking of custom titles, I had to add Em-spaces because it insisted on breaking the 2nd word instead of just putting it on the 2nd line.

Okay, so I'm still processing my morning coffee and probably dealing with a cold so if any of my points have already been addressed... I'm sorry.

I think that the One Shot Story board needs to stay it's own thing. Trimming the story boards down to:

One Shot
Vanilla
Light
Noncon
Extreme

Group Games (with the games still able to get their own subforum like in the past, but I think we should still have a post requirement as I've seen a lot of games get started and die out real quick.)
Completed Tales

But this will also require people to be more careful about their tags and it can't just be assumed that whatever is happening in the story will be human/non-human/whatever just because of it's location.

Other boards, still serve a purpose even if they're not very active.
For example, the 'Support and Advice for the Struggling', and the Pillory.

I may come back and add more to this later when I'm more caffeinated and not feeling like I have a balloon inflated in my sinuses.

We have enough to kill that everyone agrees on and see how it works out first.

Is there any chance font size on the site could be turned into a user-side option? Because this new size is aggressively huge.

Understandable if that isn't feasible, but hopeful ask!

RainyHigh

I actually really like that the font is bigger now (visually challenged person here), but I also know that some folks prefer a smaller option.
Agreeing with Aethyrium and others in the other thread labeled "font size".
It would be really cool if it were a setting users could choose from.
I don't even know if that is feasible either though.
