The Overview
For eons, angels and demons have been at war.  The conflict raged from Heaven to Hell, across countless stretches of bloody battlefields that claimed the lives of the Celestial warriors embroiled in the war.  The bones of demons, angels and other agents of Heaven and Hell litter creation, with the exception of Earth, which has always been considered off limits for open battle thanks to a treaty between the Lords of Hell and the Angelic Council, enforced by a mystical pact powered by the Sources of Light and Darkness, abstract entities that predate even Heaven and Hell.  Even still, angels and demons could visit Earth and meddle with humanity by technicalities so long as open hostilities were avoided.  Demons set about corrupting, killing and causing anguish to humans, while angels did their best to protect the innocent from their demonic counterparts without violating the treaty.

The Celestials, demon and angel alike allowed humans to believe in whatever spiritual or religious paradigm they needed to make themselves happy.  The truth was that the souls of those worthy of good would be accepted by the Source of Light when they died, while those souls tainted by evil would be accepted by the Source of Darkness.  Even the angels and demons don't know exactly what happens to those souls.  "God" as the mortals believe may or may not be the Source of Light, but no angel alive today knows if the Source is a sentient being or not.  No one has spoken to it... well, no one has been spoken back to anyway.  The same goes for the Source of Darkness.  Both of them simply are.  Angels know they were created by the Source of Light and demons know they were created by the Source of Darkness.  Celestials are "birthed" even to this day, fully grown and aware of their purpose to serve either Heaven or Hell.

The Seven Lords of Hell each represent an aspect of Evil and Corruption, while the Seven Archangels of Heaven each represent an aspect of Virtue or an Ideal.  None have visited Earth in a very long time.  Occasionally, a Demon or Angel falls in love or in lust with a mortal and a child is born of the union.  Such a child is called a Nephalem or a Demonspawn; mortals with long lifespans and ability beyond that of humans.  The legendary heroes and villains of old may have been these fantastic half breeds; Lancelot, Heracles, Beowulf, among others.  These beings may choose to fight for Heaven or Hell, or neither.  There have always been angels and demons on Earth, typically lower ranking Celestials.  They all serve Heaven or Hell and do so discreetly while blending in amongst humanity.  However, all could come and go as they wished, until now.

It has been one week since the gates to Heaven and Hell have closed, trapping all angels and demons on Earth.  There has been no communication from any of the angelic or demonic authorities, only silence and uncertainty.  The Sources’ presence can still be felt by angels and demons, but it feels somehow distant.  Heaven and Hell are for the time being completely barred to the Celestials that were on Earth.  Such a thing had never happened before in all of time remembered.  Would the conflict continue in the absence of their leaders?  Were the demons and angels trapped on Earth truly alone for the first time?  The second question was answered by an angel of Hope named Zuriel and a demon of Lust named Jezelle, who used the temporal power they had amassed on Earth to build a haven for angels and a haven for demons in the city of Las Vegas.  Jezelle thought it fitting to build her demonic haven in "Sin City" and Zuriel wasn't about to place her haven anywhere but in the same city.  The demonic haven is built beneath a Club/Casino called "Inferno", while the angelic haven is built atop the tallest skyscraper in the city, heralded in the mortal world as a club called "Sanctuary".
The Rules of Engagement:

  • Real life ALWAYS comes first!  This is just writing, and having fun.  If you need to step away, feel free to step away. There is no rush.  But if you're going to be away, please let it be known either to the GMs or in the OOC. The only exception to this is with GM or player run plots, which will have a posting expectation of once a week. If you find yourself unable to participate after joining one of these, please just let the plot runner know so we can remove you from the scene tastefully.
  • Be respectful of your fellow writers!  No Godmodding!  Always check to see if the other person is alright with something when it comes to kinks or content, whether through PMs, Character Sheets, or their On's and Off's thread. And don't write for them....
  • Characters MUST be eighteen years of age or older.  This is for the comfort of everyone involved.
  • List the content of your post in the warning section of the header if it's something sexual or violent. While this game is pretty relaxed about story elements, as long as they fit within the site rules, some individuals may not be alright with reading over certain elements and kinks.  It's totally fine to have fun with the warning section and put jokes in there.  I do it all the time myself, but please be sure to list extreme elements or sexual elements. This is important.
  • Character Death MUST be decided beforehand!  Even if a writer is open to having their character killed, please be respectful and discuss it with them beforehand. If a player character dies, the GMs will need to be informed via PM that this situation was agreed upon by both players. PC death is not allowed without player consent.
  • Respect The Setting We have benchmarks and plenty of guides in place. Please do not rampage throughout the city with little explanation for how you're able to fend off your instincts, or start trying to willy nilly bench press cars.
  • Respect Character Limitations. At game start, we will only be allowing up two angels Angels, 2 Demons, or one of each per player, One Naphalem or Demon Spawn and one true human.
  • Follow the Site Rules.  Needless to say.
  • All characters must have a real life Face Claim for their human forms. True forms will be left optional due to the art required nature for some, but everyone must have a model or celebrity face claim to represent their character.
  • Keep your characters in city as much as possible This is just for setting localization, making it easier for group interaction. Obviously certain scenes will take us outside the city for short stints, but use the threads outside of Las Vegas only when it makes sense to do so.
  • Don't be afraid to speak up.  If something is bothering you, you're feeling left out, or you want to get out, don't hesitate to let the GM(s) know.  While we will not be crafting unique pairings for every player in the game, we are more than willing to help someone get their feet wet and get involved in the group.
  • Let the GM(s) know, or post in the OOC, if you are going to be away for an extended amount of time. While already touched upon, this deserves another mention. The rule is here for the sake of everyone involved.  If you're having muse issues, need to take a bit of a break, unable to post, or just want to leave, please at least let it be known in the OOC.  The muse comes and goes.  I know that all too well, just be considerate of those creating with you.
  • Leave the drama at the door.  Leave the drama at the door.  If you can't get along with an individual, then don't interact with them.  We are not choosing who stays and who goes by popularity.  We are not getting into the middle of others' drama.  If you can't handle being in the same game as another individual, don't bother. The only exception to this will formal non-contact orders, in which case the GMs will make a judgement call.
  • Keep it civil.  There's no need for arguing.  I'm a firm believer in the saying that, if you have nothing good to say, it's better to not say anything.
Questions and Answers:

Q: What Section is this story going to be placed in?
A: Extreme Small Groups

Q: Who are The GMs?
A: LunarSage, Black Howling and WhatLiesAbove

Q: Who can Join and how do I apply?
A: Anyone who follows the rules, is willing to contribute and doesn't take issue with cross gender writing or LGBTQA themes is welcomed. While we understand such things are a preference that varies by person, this game isn't designed for those who have issues with the above. To apply, simply fill out a character sheet and PM it to all 3 Gms. Black Howling, LunarSage and WhatLies Above.

Q: What is the Focus of The Story?
A: Discovering why the gates were closed and reopening them will be the first meta plot we explore, all while dealing with the eternal conflict itself.

Q: Will there be a system for the game?
A: Not exactly. This game is mostly freeform, but we will have numbers assigned in character creation that will act as roleplaying aides in the event of any player versus player situations, or for reference during any GM run plot lines. There will be no dice to roll, but these numbers should reflect what your character is capable of. If you find them too restrictive for your concept, it's probably because the concept in question is a little too potent for what Demons and Angels are supposed to be capable of in this setting. If confused by the numbers, feel free to leave them blank and give us a small description of what you want the character capable of. We'll fill them in for you.

Q: Is PvP allowed in the game?
A: Simply put, yes. The entire premise is based on two factions hatred of one another, making some PvP inevitable. That said, this should never be something someone is forced to participate in, nor should it be a point of drama between players. Character Death is also not permitted without player consent, making this more a theme and option than a focus of the story. If contention arises, the GMs will use the numbers and other character creation details to help resolve the conflict.

Q: Will there be sexual content?
A: Absolutely! Though keep in mind, it is not the primary focus of this game. We have a plot, and we're looking to explore it.

Q: How many characters can I play?
A: Three for now. One Angel or Demon, One Nephlem or Demon Spawn and one true human. The GMs will consider opening more celestial or infernal spots as we progress, most likely as a reward to dedicated players.

Q: Can I play a Demon/Angel Hybrid?
A: No. A hybrid of demon and angel is not possible in this setting. All Demons and all Angels are created from their respective source. Angels and Demons cannot breed with other Celestials, even those of their same type. The exception to breeding lies with the mortals alone, and was an unintended side affect. When with Mortals, demons and angels have a selective conception, and can choose whether or not a half human pregnancy occurs.

Q: Where and when is the game taking place?
A: Modern day Las Vegas. While we may have some plots that take us outside this area, the majority of the action will be taking place within the city.

Q: Will this be Sandbox or GM Run?
A: The game is best described as a GM directed sandbox. With the gates shut off, will leadership emerge or will things devolve into chaos? We'll be eagerly waiting to see while we direct the action with meta plot events.

Q: How will time move?
A: Ideally, we'll be keeping a month by month basis, with the entirety of that month open for play. We may restrict this a little more at times, if it is needed for any meta plot events.

Q: How Extreme and Graphic will this game be?
A: With the way we have crafted the demons and angels, we're expecting things to get very graphic at times. For this reason, all posts will be tagged for extreme or sexual content to avoid someone reading something they may not be comfortable with.

Q: What Limitation are there on Characters?
A: All characters must be created using the creation options listed below. All characters must be eighteen years of age or older at the start of game, and you can have no more than what is listed in the character spot limitations. That is all.

Character Creation:

Inherent traits to Demons and Angels:

Angels and Demons are Celestial beings, ageless and immortal, although they can die by violence.  PC Angels and Demons must be no older than 1,200 years.

Winged Flight - Both Celestial types can fly with wings when they are revealed in their true forms at speeds of up to 100 mph.  These wings can be hidden by taking the form of a mortal.

Limited Shapeshifting - Angels and Demons can hide their true forms by assuming a static mortal form.  This form is chosen once and is the only form that may be taken unless otherwise noted.

Enhanced Senses - All senses of Angels and Demons are superhuman, roughly 3 times that of the most acute equivalent among mortals.

Natural Armor - Angels and Demons are naturally hardy and can withstand small arms fire with no injury.  Greater force than that can injure or kill an angel or demon.

Regeneration - Angels and Demons will heal from all manner of injuries that don't outright kill them far faster than a mortal would.  They will recover from being taken to near death within a day and will even regrow lost limbs (including wings) and organs.  Decapitation will still kill a Celestial beyond recovery.  This healing rate is roughly halved when recovering from wounds dealt by holy or infernal weapons.

Creation - Angels and Demons alike are created by the Source of Light and the Source of Darkness rather than born, although they can create children with mortals.  These unions produce Nephelem or Demonspawn, both of which are considered mortal and second class citizens amongst the forces of Heaven and Hell.

Celestial Instincts - Both Celestial types are driven by certain instincts implanted in them from the source of light and darkness respectively. These include the baseline personality drives inherited by their Archdemon or Archangel host, an inborn compulsion to keep their nature secret from humanity and an instinctual urge to eradicate each other. Angels and Demons have a constant compulsion that drives hate between them, though it can be temporarily restrained with enough effort.

Attributes are from 1 to 4 for angels and demons. Mental, Physical and Social all start with a single point, then assign 5 more between them as you see fit. Each Angel or Demon can sacrifice an attribute point for an artifact weapons, artifact armor or both.

Inherent traits to Nephalem and Demonspawn:

Nephalem and Demonspawn are considered mortal, but are far longer lived than humans.  They have a lifespan of up to 400 years.  PC Nephalem and Demonspawn must be no older than 150 years.

Nephalem and Demonspawn heal at an accelerated rate, about 4 times the speed of a human, though they cannot regrow lost limbs.

Nephalem and Demonspawn tend to either be exceptionally beautiful or horrifyingly hideous.  They also tend toward extremes of visual physical perfection or grotesque deformities.  Their senses are ideal for humanity; 20/20 vision and the ability to see reasonably well in the dark.

Their inner Celestial spark allows them to properly use holy or infernal weapons or other relics as angels or demons can.

Free Will - Unlike true Celestials who are compelled by their angelic or demonic nature to war against their opposites, Nephalem and Demonspawn have a mortal free will.  They can choose good or evil as they see fit.

Attributes for Nephelem and Demonspawn are 1 to 3. Each character will start with one point in each and will then have 4 more points to distribute as they see fit. Naphelem and Demon Spawn are free to sacrifice a point for an artifact weapon or armor piece, but not both.

Traits for True Humans

All humans will have the lifespan and limitations that we see in our world. They are the truest form of mortals.

Free Will- Like Nephalem and Demon Spawn, humans have true free will and can choose between good and evil as they like.

Humans have no celestial spark. As such they cannot wield artifacts of any kind, and any they could use, do not have their celestial effect added to them.

Marked: Humans can be marked by beings with celestial blood. A mark such as this is visible to other celestials and grants the mortal a sensitvity to celestial energies. To put it simply, their eyes are opened to supernatural messages and such they could not view before. Marks can be placed by demons, angels and their offspring.

Attributes for humans range from 1 to 2. Each Human starts with one point in physical, mental and social attributes and will recieve one point to distribute as they see fit. They cannot sacrifice their point for an artifact, as they cannot use them.

Stat Benchmarks

Physical:
1: Human Average - Example: Casually Lift 100 lbs | Example Sprint speed of about 15mph
2: Human Maximum - Example: Casually Lift 400 lbs | Example Sprint speed of up to 27MPH
3: Nephalem/Demonborn Maximum - Example: Casually Lift 800 lbs | Example Sprint speed of up to 40MPH
4: Angel/Demon Maximum - Example: Casually Lift 1 Ton| Example: Sprint speed of up to 70MPH

Mental:
1: Human Average: Example- Read, write and work out complex problems
2: Human Maximum: Example- All the above, but far quicker and better. Eidetic memory is easily possible.
3 Nephalem/Demonspawn maximum- Total eidetic recall easily possible, mind capable of processing information at speeds that enhance reflexive action
4: Angel/Demon Maximum: Example- Enhanced sense of time, capable of intense compartmentalization without losing a bit of efficiency. A mind like this is alien to humans.

Social:
1: Human Average: Example - Can be quite compelling
2: Human Maximum: Silver tongued, eye catching swagger
3: Nephalem/Demonspawn Maximum: Intensely Magnetic personality, persuasion worthy of cult building
4: Angel/Demon Maximum: Near compulsory persuasiveness, a social energy that is like gravity

(Cautionary note: Regardless of social stat, player characters are not ‘compelled’ in game to do what the character wants. These stats will be referenced instead for espionage situations, feints or when dealing with NPC’s)

The Hosts of Heaven:

Valor - Zaphiel

Zaphiel is as impatient as the Angels of Valor beneath him, some might say even moreso.  He is the fiercest and most skilled warrior in all of creation, but his hubris borders on arrogance.  He is often at odds with other members of the Council of Archangels.  He appears as a massively built figure in thick, gleaming armor with wings of pure fire, his face hidden by his battle helmet.  He is armed with a runed heavy bladed spear that seems to be constantly humming with the power and rage of Heaven.

Angels of Valor example:

Physical 4
Social 2
Mental 2

BLESSING: Holy Relic Weapon - Angels of Valor receive a holy relic weapon without needing to sacrifice an attribute point.

FLAW: Quick to Temper - Angels of Valor are brash and impatient, quick to the rise of their anger.

Justice - Raguel

Raguel is often described as stoic and silent, that is until a major injustice is found to afflict the innocent.  At that point, he becomes quite verbose and opinionated.  As far as warriors go, only Zaphiel is his superior in Heaven.  He is a large figure in polished gold armor encrusted with gems with a large span of gold feathered wings.  He wields an ornate golden broadsword covered in angelic runes.

Angels of Justice Example:

Physical 3
Social 2
Mental 3

BLESSING: Sense of Injustice - Angels of Justice can sense within 500 feet when a major injustice is happening, even if they cannot physically see it.  In addition, they may look at a mortal and see if they are guilty of committing a major injustice, though they may not know specific details.

FLAW: Scales of Balance - Angels of Justice are compelled to right injustice that they are aware of, even when immediately doing so would potentially cause problems.  This can be postponed by an act of sheer will, but it will bother the angel considerably until the scales are balanced.

Honor - Raphael

Raphael is one of the more approachable of the Archangels, so long as you are honorable in your request or questions.  He appears as an extraordinarily handsome black haired man in silver chain armor with piercing eyes, blue as the sky.  He wields a somewhat simple looking sword if it weren’t for the angelic runes adorning the blade.

Angels of Honor Example:

Physical 2
Social 3
Mental 3

BLESSING: Holy Geas - An angel of honor may create a mystical pact between two or more parties, and any side breaking said pact will suffer consequences determined by the angel making the honor pact.  In the case of mortals, this includes death.

FLAW: Dishonor - If an angel of honor ever breaks their word or otherwise tarnishes their own personal honor, they will begin to lose their physical essence (physical attribute) at a rate of one per 7 days until they perish or until their honor is restored.

Death - Azrael

Azrael disturbs a good many beings, Angel and Demon alike.  When he speaks, it is rarely above a whisper, but even then it sounds like a host of whispers speaking at once.  He takes his job very seriously and commands his charges to do the same or suffer the consequences.  He appears as a haunting, pale skinned man with long black hair and abyssal black light armor that seems to absorb all light around it.  He wields a large blade made from a strange ghostlike substance and has anywhere from two to ten or more blackened feathered wings.

Angels of Death Example:

Physical 4
Social 1
Mental 3

BLESSING: Death Sight - An angel of death may see the aura of mortals and see how close to death they are.  They may also reap the soul of a mortal that has just passed on and gain power from it as they assist it on its journey to Heaven or Hell.  Five mortal souls or one nephalem/demonspawn soul they reap will allow them to raise one physical, social or mental attribute by one for 6 hours.  Each attribute can only be raised by one at a time and only one attribute may be chosen at the time of reaping.

FLAW: Addiction to Death - Reaping souls is very pleasurable to an angel of death.  Therein lays the risk of becoming addicted to the act.  Some angels of death have gone so out of control killing mortals just to reap their souls that they needed to be put down by their fellows.

Hope - Phanuel

Phanuel is one of the only Archangels on the council who has a genuine adoration of humanity.  They have on occasion been known to assume mortal form just to mingle with the throngs of mortals, just to have a better understanding of their own role in the universe.  They appear as a beautiful, slender androgynous figure with long platinum hair and silver blue eyes garbed sometimes in form fitting silver armor.  When they choose to be armed, Phanuel wields a thin blade with runes that glow a soft blue.  Soft and white feathery wings spring majestically from their back.

Angels of Hope Example:

Physical 2
Social 3
Mental 3

BLESSING: Hope Eternal - Angels of hope are bastions of internal optimism and as such are themselves immune to the despairs of hell. This internal reserve can be shared with others willing to accept the light, bolstering their souls against such affects as well. In effect, they can help mortals ward off the effects of Despair energy, but only if the mortal consents on a spiritual level. One must be willing to look for hope, after all.

FLAW: Blind Optimism - On the other side of the coin, being bastions of internal optimism often causes Angels of Hope to see the good in every situation, sometimes bad ones. They forget mortals are capable of just as terrible of atrocities as demons, and more than one has found their trust misplaced because of such.

Love - Sophia

Of all the Archangels in Heaven, save for perhaps Phanuel, none have the compassion for others that Sophia holds in her heart.  She has a soft voice that is far from meek.  Some consider her empathy a weakness, but others know better.  None are anywhere close to the diplomat that Sophia can be.  She appears as a beautiful woman with long blonde hair and soft blue eyes.  She wears no armor to speak of save for a simple set of decorative pauldrons that accentuate her celestial clothing.  Her wings are feathered and white and she carries an ornate, golden staff.

Angels of Love Example:

Physical 2
Social 4
Mental 2

BLESSING: Heart of the Light - Angels of Love are natural empaths, able to feel the emotions of those around them and actually feel what they feel to an extent.  They can also take in others' physical pain to ease suffering, though the Angel of Love will feel that pain themself.

FLAW: Shared Suffering - Because of their empathic abilities, Angels of Love are attuned to everything that is felt emotionally around them, even the pain and suffering.  They cannot turn this ability off or even ignore it, the sensations are so powerful.  Because these angels persevere and function in their duties regardless, many believe them to be among the strongest of the angelic host.

Wisdom - Japhiel

Japhiel is the closest thing that Heaven has to a mystic, and many go to him to find out what the sight says about them.  He appears as a muscular dark skinned man with black feathered wings and a gold blindfold around his head covering his eyes.  He wields no weapon, but appears somehow quite formidable regardless.

Angels of Wisdom Example:

Physical 2
Social 2
Mental 4

BLESSING: True Sight - Angels of Wisdom are attuned to the aspect of truth on both a spiritual and physical level, and can see through most illusions and see the true form of any angel, demon or other creature hiding via supernatural means.  They can also detect lies, although things like omission of the truth can get around this.

FLAW: Celestial Frailty - While not frail by mortal standards, their connection to the spirit leaves their Celestial resilience lesser than their peers.  They can be injured by small arms fire, though it will still take more than a few wounds of that nature to actually endanger their lives.

The Hosts of Hell:

Abbadon, Archdemon of Destruction:

The Destroyer is somewhat of an enigma among the hosts of hell. While most others scheme, or search for some sort of upper hand in the eternal conflict, he instead relishes in the conflict itself. It often puts him at odds with the other Lords, for when they have a chance to strike for efficiency, he has a habit of stacking the field so that the game continues on. Equaling his enigmatic nature is his unpredictability, as he gets even more carried away than the demons under his purview, often destroying the plans of his rival lords as often as his plans destroy the hosts of heaven. As a result, his approachability varies depending on his whim. A trait that would probably cost him a lot of political sway, were he not the most powerful warrior in Hell, and by his words, all of creation.

Demon of Destruction Example:
Physical: 4
Mental: 2
Social: 2

Dark Gift - Eye of The Destroyer
Demons of Destruction are especially gifted at noticing the weaknesses in structures, objects and surfaces. This allows them, by pinpointing such weaknesses, to perform great destructive feats that far outweigh their physical capabilities. This ability does not function on living creatures, the hosts of Heaven and Hell or their offspring, though the destruction wrought from it may harm everyone in an area.

Flaw - Appetite for Destruction
Demons of the Destroyer exalt in destruction, often finding joy in ever larger and greater damages. The more they destroy without a cooldown, the more destruction they crave, often at their own peril.

Beelzebub, Archdemon of Gluttony:

The Voracious lord of Gluttony is a sight more greedy than those under his purview. All must be consumed, and in that effort,he even attempts to consume the other lords through means of taking leadership. It’s rarely worked to his favor, but it means that Beelzebub is always a strong voice and player among the Archdemons themselves. Despite his terrifying and grotesque  appearance, he is perhaps one of the most approachable of the hosts of hell. Slow to anger, relatively reasonable to speak with and easy to entertain. So long as the beast has been well fed, that is.

Demon of Gluttony Example:
Physical: 3
Mental: 3
Social: 2

Dark Gift -  Voracious Consumption
Demons of the lord of flies have a great hunger, but they have a great way to satiate it. They can eat and consume almost anything or anyone. Consuming non essential materials does nothing, but mortals and particularly toxic or otherwise charged matter can increase their physical essence by a static one for six hours after consumption. They can also sense the hunger in others, though they have no way to manipulate it supernaturally.  They cannot consume the hosts of heaven or hell.

Flaw - Slavish Hunger
Demons of Gluttony crave to consume in excess, no matter the form it takes. If they cannot consome four times as much as an average person throughout the day, they become fatigued and lazy until they can consume as much excess as they please.

Asmodeus, Archdemon of Lust:

Asmodeus is one of the more strange leaders of the hosts of hell. They speak in smooth, silky tones, can seem almost sweet in their intentions and even have a way of making angels feel at home speaking with them. Why wouldn’t they? Predators have always developed means of cornering their prey. Like the demons of their purview, Asmodeus is fluid in almost all things, marking them as perhaps one of the most open minded of the Demon Lords. The Archdemon of lust has no preferred gender they appear as, with depictions of masculine, feminine and even androgynous forms having been noted.

Demon of Lust Example:
Physical: 2
Mental: 2
Social: 4

Dark Gift - Mask of Desire
Demons of Lust, much like their progenitor, are far from limited to a single form like most demons and angels. They can assume any form they wish, even that of another celestial for matters of espionage. They still have a true form, and their chosen mortal form, but even those can be hidden from supernatural detection for a time, by the mask of desire. In the presence of supernatural detection, the mask of desire will fail within one hour, or half that under heavy scrutiny.

Flaw - Dissonance of the Many
Being capable of being whoever you want, to obtain whatever you want is something that urges a lust devil to invest in these forms instead of their true selves. When afflicted by a spiritual attack or phenomena in their true forms, or when their true forms have been pinpointed, they suffer the effects twofold.

Bellmodon, Archdemon of Fear:

Bellmodon is perhaps one of the most stereotypical of the archdemons. Obsessed with rule through fear, even over the other archdemons, they are a terror to angels, mortals and the hosts of hell alike. Despite the influence they have over others, they're one of the least approachable due both to the levels of insanity that have been noted within the lord, and the fact that they are among the most disturbing beings in creation. Paranoia, rapid mood swings and intense mania fueled rants are all things they are known for, and things many young demons don’t survive.

Demon of Fear Example:
Physical:4
Mental: 1
Social: 3

Dark Gift - Aspect of Nightmare
Demons of fear can taste and feel fear on an instinctual level, able to sense the presence or absence within roughly thirty feet of them. With a moment to concentrate, they can pinpoint someone’s fear and gain an idea to it’s source should they be afraid at the time. In addition, if they pinpoint someone in this method, they can implant the seed for a great nightmare to ravage the individual's dreams next they sleep, weakening them the following day.

Flaw - Aspect of Instability
Fear and Nightmares are the realm of insanity and as such demons of this variety are particularly unstable. This dissonance of thoughts makes it hard for them to see through illusions, or supernatural means of fooling them, as their mind wants to believe the scenario is real.

Algea, Archdemon of Pain

The Paingiver is one of the more infamous of the archdemons. Sadistic to the core, he’s known by angel and demon alike for his love of torture. He’s a more skilled inquisitor than any of the demons under his purview, and will often offer to perform his talents for the other Archdemons. Either on them himself, or an enemy to further the Hosts of Hell’s goals. Despite this obsessive quality, he’s a capable planner and can seem almost eloquent compared to the other demons when approached. Pain, after all, comes from far more than the twist of a sword.

Demon of Pain Example:
Physical: 3
Mental: 2
Social: 3

Dark Gift - Gift of the Paingiver
Demons of Pain are granted an infernal weapon without having to spend an attribute point. They also have a near empathic connection to pain, making them exquisite inquisitors.

Flaw - Curse of The Sadist
Demons of pain crave the spread of pain and suffering, savoring in it’s taste they know so well. As such, they too often play with their opponents for maximum agony rather than a killing blow,  and become enraged when unable to ‘play’ with someone for too long.

Belial, Archdemon of Deceit:

Belial is known as the deceiver, and like Abbadon, has been confused for the devil himself in many human mythos. The devil is of course a human figment, with the source of darkness being the true culprit, but it’s a thrilling deception the likes of which this Archdemon lives for. He is distrusted by all his peers, but despite this, he remains one of the most clever schemers among them. For this reason, the other hosts of hell find themselves allying or working with him far more than they intend to. He’s seemingly slow to anger, hard to provoke and one of the longest planners among his kin, even speaking in clear, concise tones. Even if the words seem like they come from a snake.

Demon of Deceit Example:
Physical: 2
Mental: 3
Social: 3

Dark Gift - Cloak of The Phantasm
In addition to being able to sense deceit, Demons of Deceit are capable of creating simple, scenario based illusions. They can only change a scene, and if interacted with under supernatural scrutiny, , this scene falls to pieces. But it can easily make someone walk by a group of people interrogating another in an alley, as instead they glance and see a bunch of people watching a horror movie on a phone or tablet instead. Effects that pierce through supernatural deception can pierce this with a moment of observation.

Flaw - Forked Tongue
Demons of deceit cannot help themselves, and are consummate liars. They tell white lies, big lies, small lies and all inbetween. They often lie even when it is not in their best interests to do so. This not only creates a universal distrust of their kind among Angel and Demon alike, but it more often than not finds the demon of deceit in trouble.

Azazel, Archdemon of Despair:

Azazel is one of the greatest generals of hell, right alongside Abaddon himself. While not the physical warrior or tactician that the destroyer is, he’s a more farsighted strategist and a consummate schemer. He has many plans for dread and he’s always making moves to further these. It’s because of these traits that a creature who disturbs even other demons is so pivotal to the cause. Human and Infernal lore alike tells that The Harbinger of despair was once an Angel of the source, and his seemingly clear headed conversation certainly lends this credence. Even if his cruelty proves this could have never been the case.

Demon of Despair Example:
Physical: 3
Mental: 3
Social: 2

Dark Gift - Discordant Whispers
Demons of despair can induce visions of past trauma in those within a thirty feet area of them. The memories are all of things that have actually happened to the victims in the past, and as such the effectiveness of this ability varies. Though angels of hope are completely immune to this aspect of the whispers. The demon does not get any knowledge or insight on these visions without physically touching a victim, an act which cannot be performed on one under the effects of Heart of Light. .

Flaw- Heart of Flint
Misery loves company, and so long as Demons of Despair are surrounded by the miserable whether they create it or not, they seem to be in pretty good spirits. This changes rapidly if they are surrounded by areas of joy and festive expression, or go too long without the feeling of demonic despair in others, sinking into a hopelessness themselves and weakening to the point they cannot regenerate.

Am I correct in thinking that the seven higher angels/devels as mention in the first post will not be playable characters so any angel or devil created would be a lesser one then those? Also if you were to create a child of an angel or demon can they be a child of the higher ones or not ?

You're correct, they are not playable characters. They are the originals and each of them represent a certain type of Demon or Angel, with each being charged by the Source to organize and utilize them. The thing is, they're separated by the closing of the gates, so they won't be making any direct appearances in the story until those have been reopened. The characters can still feel the presence of the source of light or darkness, but they cannot feel the presence of their progenitor Archdemon or Archangel. Leadership has been stripped from all the demons and angels who are currently on earth. While they may make brief appearances in the future, any direct involvement will be very limited.

As for the second question, I'm gonna say no for now. I'll confer with my fellow Gms about it when they wake up and see what they think, though. The Archdemons and Archangels can't really fully manifest in the earthly realm, it's one of the reasons that the demons and angels we see in game are created. That said, they can appear in lesser manifestations, but I'm unsure if they would be capable of reproduction in them.

Levi

No that's fine. If there not on earth they can hardly produce offspring. Thank you for the clarification

Oh wow, this certainly feels like a story of epic proportions. I have a small question though, in regards to the Nephalem and demon spawn. Would Celestial power still manifest in someone if it was a great grandparent who had a celestial parent. They would just need a divine artifact of some kind to activate their power or something along those lines?

We talked it over, and yeah, celestial blood could still spark up to two generations removed, but only with exposure to celestial energies. The artifact you mentioned could work, but so could being a victim of or witnessing the use of a Demon or Angel's gift/blessing.

I should not join another group game...I should not...

Come on, you know you want to.  ;)

In all seriousness, we'd definitely love to have you aboard if you feel you have the time.

azzmeister89

Awesome. Thanks for the clarification. Definitely keeping interest in this so I'll spend a few days thinking up a character.

Inno, right?

My inner lust demon is squirming...
If one thinks of omniscience as causal rather than predictive- not 'THIS!', but 'If this, then that; infinite matrices of infinite dimensions each- it goes a long way towards reconciliation with Free Will.

It does not, however, make it easier to contemplate or accept a being capable of visualizing such an array.

Haha. Not to sound like a broken record, but just like I said to the others, if you find time, we'd love the chance to write with you. Never had the honor thus far, but I've seen your work around and am a fan.

Got a mortal detective made with Dominic West as the FC.  Any more members of the local Vegas police force would be welcome as PCs as well.
