Character: Juniper Hargreeves
Player: sloane
Codename(s): Number Two

Powers/Special abilities: Plant Manipulation

  • Juniper is capable of creating and manipulating plants and most aspects of all plant life. She can grow plants of any kind at will, and she can strengthen this growth and spread it over a wider area through the use of simple hand gestures. She can also revive dying plants, make flowers bloom, or cause branches, roots, and vines to move in any way she wants them to.
  • Juniper's power also essentially means that she's a walking plant encyclopedia. She can identify any plant by simply looking at it or coming into contact with it. Similarly, she can also determine various plant properties, which can help if there's a need for something to either heal, or poison. Plant chemicals can be used for a variety of things, after all.
  • As a member of the Umbrella Academy, Juniper primarily focused on defence rather than offence. She never enjoyed using her powers unless she absolutely had to, which meant that she was at risk of never fully realising the extent of her abilities. With more and more pushing from Sir Reginald, Juniper eventually discovered that there was power in emotion. Thorn projectiles could be lethal if she was angered. Thick vines could choke the life out of a person if she felt particularly vengeful. These abilities of hers were rarely seen out in the field, but both she and Sir Reginald knew that she was at least capable of doing all that — and probably more.
  • Overexertion or prolonged use of her powers can take a toll on her, leading to fatigue, nosebleeds, and in very rare instances, she may even black out. Since Juniper has always prioritised using her powers only when necessary, she hasn't experienced the side effects too much.

Personality:

  • Kind:  Juniper is always looking to be helpful in some way or the other. She is extremely generous, and puts the needs and safety of other people before hers, regardless of if she knows them or not. She is selfless, always wanting to see other people happy and thriving, and if there's anything at all she can do to help with that, then she certainly will.
  • Friendly: Juniper shows affection with ease, even to complete strangers, and she is an optimist through and through. she loves to talk and to meet new people, and she tends to make it hard for people to dislike her with her ever-present smile and natural charisma. She is easily the type of person to drop everything, even the most important of tasks, if she sees a person in need — though this is perhaps more an example of her tendency to sometimes act on impulse. Juniper rarely means harm, but that doesn't mean she's incapable of causing it when she neglects to think things through.
  • Loyal: Juniper is incredibly loyal, and some would say almost to a fault. She's extremely devoted to the people in her life, and she does everything she can to make sure they are happy, safe, and thriving. She doesn't experience much rage, and she dislikes unnecessary violence, but she can still be very protective over the people in her life, and would go to great lengths to ensure that they remain safe.

History:

  • Juniper was born in a small town in Romania, but she never got to experience any of the culture there since she was adopted as a baby by Sir Reginald Hargreeves — must like the rest of the members of the Umbrella Academy. Her early years were quite pleasant. She made the best out of every situation and genuinely enjoyed the company of her other adoptive siblings. Her powers at the time were simple and more decorative than actually useful. That all changed when she hit her teenage years.
  • Sir Reginald saw potential where Juniper did not. She was never the type of person to anger so easily, and she still isn't, but there were weeks and months filled with nothing but frustration as Sir Reginald pushed and Juniper resisted. He wanted her to explore more of what she was capable of so that he, in turn, could determine just how useful she could actually be for the team. Providing him with plants with rare chemicals and toxins just wasn't enough. Sir Reginald was close to giving up till he saw her instantaneously sprout thick vines from the ground, bursting through concrete and giving her a nosebleed all to save a cat that had fallen from the window of a nearby building.
  • Equipped with new information, Sir Reginald tried to change the way Juniper trained, introducing scenarios that played on her feelings in order to force her to use her powers. It was emotionally draining, it made Juniper feel a little helpless and miserable, and it proved to be one of the best ways to ruin whatever bond existed between the old man and one of his adopted children. Whatever Sir Reginald learned from then on drastically changed the way he perceived Juniper's abilities, but he never shied away from letting her know that he believed she wasn't deserving of them if she wasn't willing to use them.
  • When the team fell apart Juniper initially stayed because of her siblings, but when it became clear that most of them didn't plan on sticking around, she left to do her own thing. She didn't go too far, and she tried to maintain contact with her siblings as much as she could, but Juniper led a simply life by managing a flower shop during the day and occasionally participating in open mic nights during the evenings.

Relationships/Connections:

  • coming soon!

Secrets/Gossip:

  • Nobody truly knows how much Juniper is capable of. Regardless of how much she learned during training, there came a point where she refused to keep going. There's some speculation that she explored more of her capabilities on her own once she left the Umbrella Academy, but nothing is certain.

I was just "window shopping" and noticed the CS for Nina--and wow, that is one awesome CS @Curvykitten! Looking forward to reading more about her in the game in the future. I also loved the inspiration from Doom Patrol. :)
