Excellent! Oh The Dagger Pistol would that also be apart of the close weapons group?

I would say that the Dagger portion counts as a Close weapon group, the Firearm would not

That is correct, so for a Slayer after you gain 8000 experience you could gain the Stalker or Quarry class features (as examples, those aren't the only two options).

Are we able to pick one from each class, or limited to just one?

Also, are you planning on using the Elephant in the Room changes to certain feats?

Oh, cool.  I had some questions/confusion about that as well.

@Re Z L, I'm looking at doing a Sorcerer and x.  Any bloodlines you don't want me to use?

You can take them for any class that you have, so if you're a Rogue|Paladin gestalt you can gain Class Feats from either of those classes (as well as any Prestige Classes you would normally qualify for)

I'm actually not too familiar with the Elephant in the Room changes, let me take a look at it and I'll get back to you

No bloodline restrictions as far as I'm concerned, some of them may be a little weirder than others based on the setting, but nothing is really off the table as far as I'm concerned

So I can't find this in the srd on background skills. If you take a skill like linquistics as a background skill are you treated as trained in it and do you get the +3 to it as a class skill or no.

Yes, background skill points are identical to regular skills, they are just only spent on background skills. The regular skill points can be spent on whatever you want, where the background points you get can only be spent on those background skills.

Yea, we can use those changes, I don't have a problem with any of that

I'll add that to the first post, but here's a little bit here for everyone else:

You can get the feat changes here: https://mammothisland.itch.io/elephant (it's a pay what you want download link)

Some important changes for people to be aware of, Weapon Finesse doesn't exist, it's just a trait that finesse-able weapons have now, Weapon Focus applies to weapon groups instead of single weapons

Oh good, elephant in the room is pretty nice to have. Helps me par down what feats I'd need and not need then.

Name: Aphashe
Race Human
Classes: Savage Technologist (Paizo, Barbarian Variant) / Bard

Brief personality: Equal parts cynic and jester, she is a reflection of the dangerous world around her-- harsh, driven, and not without a spark of life and a jagged, stark beauty.  Sometimes it seems she's petulant, immature in her selfishness and abrasive humor, but her wastelander sense, survival instincts, sharp wit and foresight often surprise her allies and enemies.  Loneliness has taken its toll on her, and the tribes she's been chosen into over her short years have either betrayed her or been taken away, leaving pain and anger to fill the void where companionship and family should reside.  Still, she seems irrevocably drawn to others, finding lost causes, potential victims, or desperate hopes despite her attempts to remain aloof and uninvolved, and she risks her life for others again and again-- sometimes succeeding, sometimes not.

Brief description: Slender woman with taut muscles, looking older than her 20 years but still able, attractive, and fit, with skin the color of untanned doe skin and jet-black, wavy hair of considerable length-- hair she braids and typically tucks under a hood, headwrap, or scarf. Her skin is shockingly pale despite the constant exposure to sand and sun.

Brief character history: Rural communities stick together to survive against predators of the thieving, meat-eating, or slaving variety; she was raised in one of these hardened communities, a walled village of sandstone, dunes, burros, arrows, metal-tasting water, and hard-living hearts.  She learned to defend the village, to serve the village, and that one day she'd be old enough to marry a village boy and have village children and live a whole village life unless she was killed, captured and enslaved, or eaten by a sandworm.  Kids accept the reality with which they are presented-- and she had no idea what plans awaited her, or what creature was actually feeding in the underbelly of this village... that she was walking the surface of a spider's pit waiting, biding its time, until it was ready to turn her to its purpose.  But before that plan could come to fruition, a war-band arrived-- this one, unlike many before it-- was like a small army, mustered, organized, and primed for settlements such as this.

The raiders demonstrated their experience in sieging such reinforced fort-villages-- sprawling, hopeful bastions with stout but over-extended walls, scattered defenders, and hard hearts, but weakened at the suffering of their loved ones.  With cunning and military discipline, her home succumbed to blood and fire and was ground into the dirt, only to be raised into subjugation as a waystation for a raider gang that continued conquering unregulated territory.  Her surviving family was split into various roles-- some soldiering, some serving in other ways, but in labor, battle, and humiliation she would spen years in chains before stealing her liberty-- more than she had ever known-- and all the terrors and wonders that came with it.

Taking advantage of inter-clan warfare among contending slaver groups, she and a few others broke their chains and set out as fugitives for the nearest city, her only possessions being salvage from dead guards and a bone flute she had learned to play-- an item that protected her, endeared her to the slavers for her entertainment value in a way that sometimes spared her from being forced to perform other 'entertainments'.  For months, they they thrived in the deadlands thanks to the local knowledge and survival skills they'd honed since childhood.  But in the city, everything was utter hell... begging, robbing, murdering, gangs, guards-- everything was stacked against them.  Their numbers decimated again, the surviving refugees returned to the wild, the weakest died off one by one, and the few remaining trickled away.  One day, as she watched her last compatriot walk off to join traveling monks in their pilgrimage, she realized that perhaps it was best she be alone-- for only after losing the last remnant of her old life was she free to build her new one.

Any additional important info you wish to include: I dropped the Dhampir factor from draft one and changed up the image and description.  I'm quite happy with this version, and I think it's ready for a mechanics review if you approve of the concept when you're at that stage.  Linked sheet.

Another question: Do we get 2 ABI's at 4th level (one for each class), as well as 2 feats at levels 1, 3 and 5?

Also, I'm a bit confused as to this background skill vs. adventuring skill thing. Can you clarify that?

Ixy

Hi-- I'm not trying to overstep, so I'm sorry if it seems that way, but I'd like to be of help if I can.

They just get 1 ABI at level 4.  With Gestalt, you receive the best benefit of the class where the two conflict, both benefits where they don't conflict, and the basic "level-up" bonuses are just by level until you max out.

So, for example, HP: imagine a GESTALT rogue/fighter levels up...
-They take the higher die of their two classes, adding a d10 worth of hps instead of the d8 worth of points
-The same rogue/fighter takes the higher BAB of the two classes ... their BAB goes from +3 to +4, or +4 to +5, whatever the level appropriate is for fighter.  Cause fighter's is higher than rogue.
-Per PF rules, they get a bonus ability point at level 4, so they raise one ability by +1 for being a gestalt fighter/rogue at that step
-On other levels, they still get -FIGHTER- bonus feats where appropriate, but they also get rogue talents and bonuses at those levels.

It can make munchkins drool at the possibilities for min-maxing, but the real goal is to make a small group of characters much more versatile (and sure, stronger, so they can handle tougher and more diverse challenges).

(ninja-quick edit: this helped me... copypasta it and add a www.)  d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm

(OH and a second, not-so-quick edit)
Background skills are those less-challenge-oriented skills; having the background skills rule included means you get some bonus skill points each level, but they can only be spent on Lores (which are new skills you can add to your sheet for VERY specific knowledges) or certain existing skills.  A helpful link for that is le here d20pfsrd.com/skills/background-skills/

I like her, I think she'll be a good fit :)

I don't really see anything that would need to be changed, if you wanted to get more specific with her background (like actual locations and such) we could work through that later on

Hello. I have to say this peaked my interested in the search. I wonder why! Anyhoo, never played path finder, in fact I've only recently started playing DND like two week ago, only had two sessions. Even if I can't play, keeping an eye on this would be fun. learning and all.

If it would be possible, playing Vash in this would be fun, considering Gunsmoke is his home. might need help translating Trigun lore about Vash to pathfinder races, class, feats, abilities and so on. I do have him translated to a dnd character pretty well. so that might help

Hallo! And welcome to E, seems you're pretty new :)

We're using a hefty amount of extra rules (or removing some other rules), so this is far from a vanilla Pathfinder experience, but if you're interested in learning I'm happy to help!

Which version of DnD have you played?

Also, I don't really mind taking some inspiration from Vash, but my preference would be to not simply clone the character from top to bottom--given the tone of the game I'd probably scale back his chaotic antics. But otherwise I wouldn't really have any problems with it :)

Ixy did an excellent job explaining things (in my opinion) also the link she provided (which I also provided in the first post) should go over all of the details as well, not sure if you looked at that or not.

Did Ixy manage to clear things up for you, or did you need some more help?

Did somebody ask for a wandering preacher nun? No?

*Slams table* Too bad, I'm offering up one for this! We must surpass these trials, and reach the the gods to bring this world back to the way it was in the ancient tomes!

*Waves a half-burnt old Pathfinder Society journal wildly*

Investigator/Cleric? Rogue/Oracle? I dunno, still considering class mash-ups for peak crazy devoted preaching.

Quick question, Re Z L. For character images, are there any preferences you want for the RP? Like, are there certain kinds of mediums you'd rather have us avoid and such?

I'm working on a Rogue/Aegis (DSP psionic class), but I just want to make sure any character I make fits along certain guidelines.

Would I be off-base that a good option for a somewhat-unstable cleric in this situation would be Pharasma? After all, there's no way prophecy predicted that Golarion would get turned into a dust bowl, and even if they're not answering the gods HAVE to be out there because the End of Days hasn't been triggered yet (Groetus I'm looking at you!).

I'd say Pharasma would be a good pick, some of her devotees could have potentially taken a rather...extreme turn and considered the world itself to have suddenly started dying, or has turned "undead" in a sense. Those sorts would probably be trying to bring about the actual end of the world, if they had their way. I'm not implying that you do this, just mentioning something that a Pharasma worshipper might know about.

The fact that "water" is one of her domains is also interesting to me ;)

Ana Field

RACE: Human
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Straight
AGE: 25
CLASSES: Rogue (Unchained)/Aegis (DSP psionics)
ALIGNMENT: Neutral Good

CHARACTER HISTORY: Ana Field was born in the small town of New Hope, in the land that was once called the River Kingdoms before the calamity. A quaint town where people try their best to live life. Ana’s parents were what amounted to town guards within the village, skilled with blades and doing their best to keep order in a world that had largely forsaken it. Born a bright and healthy young girl, Ana grew up to be both nimble and bright in her early years and grew to be a talented woman who showed a knack for combat… it was around puberty for her however that she learned of another talent she had. She could shape unseen matter into what amounted to a protective skin around herself, acting as a layer of protection and empowerment. While most saw the ability as a little strange, Golarion had become a strange place over the last two hundred years – few thought anything of it, really.

As the years passed, Ana felt a certain wanderlust growing in her. New Hope wasn’t really the type of town to attract trouble, which left her feeling languid. It was no surprise when she told her family she sought to leave the town and make a name for herself. She elected to leave with little to her name but a pouch of hard earned coin, the clothes and armor on her back, and a destination. The nearby city of Mournvale was the perfect place people looking to make a name for themselves, and it was there that Ana elected to join a small mercenary group to become a bounty hunter and general ‘problem solver’. Working odd jobs, taking down bandits, thugs, and ruffians – and in general looking to amass a name for herself has had its ups and downs, including the loss of her left eye in a particularly bad fight… But she has kept her spirit and desire to help others, albeit with a bit of guile and ruthlessness on her part.

PERSONAL GOALS: Ana has no direct or explicit goal, but being a woman inclined to aiding others, she hopes to make Golarion a bit more safe than it was before.

PERSONALITY TRAITS: Ana’s a good person at heart, she can sometimes be a bit ruthless to her enemies and seemingly cold – but she has a strong sense of justice and morality. She has a detest of slavers and those who would abuse others of lower statuses, and can sometimes be a bit brash and act before truly thinking about something.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Ana’s a tall and athletic woman, standing around 5’10” or so abouts, with a body honed from both the blasted sands and battle. She’s seen a fair amount of scars from blades and claws, and has even lost her left eye in battle. With long blonde hair and a sea green eye, she keeps a striking disposition when not covered by her second skin. She prefers light armors and keeps a pair of Kukri on her person at all times unless disbarred from doing so.

ON/OFFs: She’s not really for sexual stuff, but this might become more filled out later.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Ana’s been out and about and has seen her fair amount of travel, would be happy to link some character histories up.  Also, the art I’m using for her is a personal commission so please do not take it for your personal use.

Latooni Subota

Also canonically, even in original timeline Golarion, she has a lot of priests that went nuts after Aroden died suddenly and fate began to get . . . wobbly. I'll pull some more in-depth details together and post it soon.

Urd Alvasdottir

RACE: Human (Ulfen)
GENDER: Female
SEXUALITY: Confused
AGE: 18
CLASSES: Cleric/Ranger
ALIGNMENT: Chaotic Neutral

CHARACTER HISTORY: Urd Alvasdottir is an anomaly out in the sands. She hails from a small settlement of people in the far north that (purportedly) were saved from the wasting that hit the world by taking refuge in an old ruin. In actuality it was a cult made up of faeblooded would-be bandit king and his conquests. He obviously long-since passed on, and the leadership of his camp moved down the line of his descendants, until a number of enterprising girls overthrew them. Urd . . . wasn't a part of that rebellious group.

Having grown up just a little bit wrong, she never was a popular girl amongst the group, beauty aside. She did not cope well with what was effectively a life of a slave before the rebellion, to say the least. Urd considered herself 'saved' by the discovery of an old book of prophecy buried away in a ruined passage of the dungeon, and ended up obsessed with it, eventually self-exiling herself to go on a 'vitally important quest' in Pharasma's name.

Since then she's been (seemingly) aimlessly wandering the wastes, trying to track down places and people listed in her book of prophecy. Contrary to popular belief every time she finds proof that a prophecy was incorrect she only becomes more convinced that she's on the right track! She's mainly known as 'that crazy preacher' to most, but her oddly helpful personality and ability to utilize healing magic helps bridge that gap a bit.

PERSONAL GOALS: 1: Investigate the Book of Prophecy to see if the various prophecies inside happened or not.
2: Find the source of the wasting that afflicts Golarion.
3: Find her goddess BECAUSE SHE HAS SO MANY QUESTIONS AAAAA

PERSONALITY TRAITS: Neurotic, Driven, Obsessive, Helpful, Caring, Confused, Faithful

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Urd is an abnormal woman of Ulfen blood, though that might be the influence of other humanoids in her bloodline after two centuries of intermarrying. She only stands at a mere 5 feet tall, with a slim and almost gaunt figure. Despite this she has all the 'correct pieces' of a delicate beauty. Long, wavy blonde hair. Hazel eyes. Pouty Lips. The works. Rather than a bombshell, she's the type of girl you want to protect . . . at least until she opens her mouth. Generally speaking she wears what she considers 'priestess' robes, even if they aren't particularly accurate to a true Pharasman priestess, along with gloves and sturdy boots.

ON/OFFs: Urd has no interest in the more brutal/gross aspects of sex. She has very little interest in sex herself in fact, due to her previous circumstances, so she'd be the one pursued rather than the one pursuing in any relationship. She does view men and women as equally attractive though.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: I kinda see her as a combination medic/explorer, albeit one who is clearly off-kilter. I could see her easily attaching herself to another PC because 'The book clearly says right here that so-and-so will do such-and-such and if I squint really hard it could mean you!' Honestly the 'Book of Prophecy' is basically just a nothing macguffin that the GM could use for totally unexpected plot hooks (We need to go this way because there's supposed to be a thing here I need to see!) or just an outlet for her (non-destructive) crazy. In essence she's a very helpful young lady to anyone she accompanies, just not a particularly sane one. Note when I say she's nuts, I'm not making a lolrandom-type, or backstabber. Urd is a good girl. :(

Still a bit of a work in progress.

Imrae Naerth

RACE: Drow
GENDER:
SEXUALITY: Lesbian
AGE: 157
CLASSES: Slayer/Inquisitor
ALIGNMENT: Lawful Evil

CHARACTER HISTORY: Imrae was a member of a raiding party that had gotten caught out on the surface. While she wasn't born yet at the time of the Wasting, her parents and their companions were. Their raiding party had found themselves unable to find a way back to the Darklands after the dwarves shut their gates and many of the tunnels were collapsed. By the time she was born, the raiding party was much smaller, many of them killed over time. Eventually her mother separated from the group, raising her on traditional tales of their people, instilling traditional Drow values on her despite being trapped on the surface with nobody to see as an example of how the Drow should be. Then, one night, her mother vanished, leaving behind only an old book with blank pages.

She spent many years looking for her, traveling only at night and hiding during the day. The sunlight was not her ally. She eventually came to the city of Daggermark where she decided to remain, making a number of less-than savory contacts that were not at prejudiced as most others she met. She became involved in the Daggermark Poisoner's Guild, finding an enjoyment in alchemy. She took all manner of work, from the legal to the illegal; bounty hunting, scouting, scavenging, assassination, even rescuing kidnapping victims. If nothing else, the good deeds kept too many eyes from looking at her too closely. She spent several months in the undead city of Geb, learning from master black marketeers before returning to Daggermark.

PERSONAL GOALS:
1) Find an open entrance to the Darklands
2) Find her mother
3) Become a master necrotoxin brewer
4) Find a woman to take as her consort

PERSONALITY TRAITS:
-Arrogant
-Cautious
-Dry wit
-Ruthless
-Surprisingly loyal
-Night Owl

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Imrae is fairly tall and well build for an elf, around 5'10" in height with a noticeable amount of muscle definition. Her hair is stark white with contrasting obsidian skin tone. Eye are a pale red, almost looking gray depending on the angle of the light. Often wears dark clothes with hoods, particularly in places she is unfamiliar with as she doesn't know how they will treat her.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Sheet still a WIP
