That may be so! But the writers of Marvel have an advantage where they can make stuff up and not worry about treading on peoples toes. We're playing a game with other people, so we need to know what clashes and what doesn't. Plus, I'm really detail orientated :P

Anyway, that all looks good! Include the shorthand of those relevant details into the sheet, and I'll tell you what you need to do next via PM!

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

NOTE: Due to a high influx of Heroic characters, we are temporarily closing applications for heroes. We are now only accepting villains. Applications that are currently in-progress are not affected. <3

Mael

Sumac
Real Name: Jasper North
Also Known As: Jasp | Jas
Age: 28

Place of Birth: Nova Scotia, Canada
Occupation: Botanist | Environmentalist | Thief
Known Associations: None.
Parents / Family: Not anyone of importance.

Appearance:

> Normal: Jasper stands at a height of 6’ 2” tall, with a solid musculature hidden beneath his daily outfit. His strength isn’t bulging muscles and constant flexing, but rather a chiseled and cut appearance. His hair is thick and dark brown, with straight brows of a similar color framing hazel eyes. It’s styled longer on top and shorter on the sides, with the longer portion pushed back away from his face. He is always sporting stubble along a hard jawline, with a slim mustache accenting his upper lip. His skin is tan in appearance, though it is hard to identify if that is something he’s maintained since birth or simply due to sun exposure. His body, despite its size, is graceful and confident in all movements.

> True Form: While Jasper maintains the same body build, size, and structure in this form – the color of his hair and skin changes. In private, away from the prying eyes of the world, Jasper can let go of his ability to manipulate his appearance and let his true form show. His skin goes from sun-kissed to green: leaning more yellow in tone than blue. His brown hair shifts to a deep red that extends into the color of his brows and facial hair, too. His hazel eyes morph into something more on the red-spectrum, but maintain their multi-colored accents. This is his preferred form.

Personality:

Jasper is approachable, always ready with a smile and greeting. You had to be when you worked in customer service, after all! The difference all rested in the fact that his was genuine. He found that people didn’t visit his florist shop and nursery without caring for the same things he cared about: plants. And if someone cared about plants, they were alright in Jasper’s book. He’s easy-going and enjoys cracking a joke here and there. He maintains a strong sense of passion about subjects he cares for, and once he gets going, it’s hard to stop him. Is he ambitious? Hell yes. If he has a goal, he’ll meet it or get as close as possible. Is his heart in the right place? Always. At least, in his eyes, it is. He tries his best to have good intentions, but some people just needed more… convincing, you know? It was only natural that he tried to educate them as much as he could, especially when the future generations depended on it.

All of these traits can be seen on the surface – but try to get past that, and there’s a thick, ivy-covered wall that surrounds Jasper to protect him. There are reasons he does what he does, and there are secrets lurking in the shadows of his heart and mind that he keeps tucked away as much as he can. Those who do manage to scale that wall often find someone who can be serious when the time calls for it, who has loyalty that runs as thick as his blood, and who lacks a bit of self-control around those he trusts.

In a bad mood, Jasper can come across as cold and petty. Fool him once, there was no shame to be had for him. He’s the type to hold it against you and lash out at another opportunity if it was presented. All of his warm, easy-going appearance can vanish in an instant if opportunity arises, and some could even describe his caustic nature as frightening. If someone were to be in the unfortunate position of seeing how fast his switch can flip, they would get to briefly experience the shimmering instance of mental instability behind those hazel eyes.

Origin and Background:

Jasper was born during a beautiful spring in Nova Scotia, Canada. His mother died during childbirth, smelling the saltwater of the ocean and lavender planted in the garden. His father was a brute that fished the ocean waters most of the year in order to try and provide for his wife – and now his son. They weren’t memorable, just average folks trying their best to get by. Jasper grew up with a rather typical childhood of being left alone too often, exploring the outdoors and disturbing the locals. As most presumed boys to do, he was often spotted with dirtied hands and feet, scrapes on his knees and elbows. He was lively and wild, full of laughter and things to say. At home, however, the silence was always oppressive. He was either alone, choosing to talk to a few plants and mice that he shared the walls with, or in the presence of his father. The man was Jasper’s opposite in every way: silent, brooding, quick to anger. And as Jasper got older, he tested his boundaries as puberty made him more and more prone to outbursts and aggression. He hated that he reminded himself of his father, which only made matters worse. One day, his dad had enough and backhanded Jasper so hard that the lanky pre-teen had spun into the wall and broke his nose, collarbone, and dislocated his shoulder. Horrified, his father had taken him to the nearest hospital, while they both were wondering why the action had done so much damage.

Turns out – Jasper was sick. He was diagnosed with Osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease. The effects hadn’t set in until he was reaching maturity, and it had come as a complete surprise to both son and father. Suddenly, his carefree and active lifestyle had to be altered completely. He was told to stay indoors when he was able, to be careful with almost everything he did. His father was even more distant – something Jasper hadn’t thought was possible – and by the time Jasper was sixteen, he basically lived on his own. At seventeen, he left his home and moved in with a friend on the opposite side of town. The move was his first taste of real freedom: he could talk with others, go out, live his life for what felt like the first time since he was young and scraping up his knees. He felt so free… that he dove in head first to his newfound life. It was a mistake that he would never be able to take back. No amount of time-turning could ever reverse the decision he made while he was on his own for those first couple of years.

In order to find relief, Jasper had turned to drugs and alcohol. Alcohol didn’t last long because it clashed with his medication and made him feel worse than the medication’s side effects. The drugs, though, those had been a way of escaping. What had started as simply smoking dope had turned into shooting other things and he’d always have the track marks on his inner arm to prove it. A near-death experience was what it had taken for him to sober up – mostly – and find himself completely abandoned by those he had turned to in times of need. In the darkest time of Jasper’s life… he was alone. Again. So, he did what he could to survive. He lived on the streets, worked odd jobs around Nova Scotia, and tried desperately to stay as clean as he could while using what little money he had to try and keep buying his medication. The only way he knew he could get off of the streets was to get clean and find a place to stay.

He was found on a park bench by a woman aptly named Hope one bitterly cold night. She took him in, fed him, and gave him a futon to sleep on. She also was the start of stability in his life. She introduced him to how life could be – and aspects of her own life that helped her to feel ‘stable’. She’d turned him away from drugs and gotten him into a different scene, where dark clubs held specific parties where people could find release for their tensions. It was a scene that Jasper had felt welcomed in, a place where he could feel the rushes of adrenaline and the sweet relief that came after. It was new and different and exciting. More importantly – it was safe and stable, something he’d never had before and appreciated immensely. It was a life he was finally starting to feel like he was living. Then, he received the news of his father’s death. It struck Jasper as odd that he hadn’t cared too much, initially. He wasn’t wracked with sadness or guilt at the loss of a man who’d hardly been in his life in the first place. He went to the funeral, anyway, and was only one of three people in attendance. Three lonely souls who had known his father and stuck around to see him put six feet under.

For some reason… it had made Jasper angry. Angry enough that he’d punched a tree and broken most of the fingers on his hand and fractured the bones in his forearm. Luckily, his father had given him everything in the will, and the money was mostly drained by his medical expenses. His jaunt in the hospital had lasted a few days between surgeries, and while he was there, he’d learned a lot about his disease and the medication that had supposedly been helping him. He’d learned about the side effects and the process it took to get the medications, how some ingredients could have been considered poisons if taken too often. He’d also learned that there was an experimental trial being formed for volunteers with diseases like his to try and new drug, a new way of healing. What did Jasper have to lose?

And that is when Jasper met Nathaniel Essex.

Essex had convinced Jasper that he was the ‘perfect candidate’ for this trial. He could ‘help save the lives of others’. So, Jasper volunteered and awaited the news that his blood samples held something promising. A day later and Jasper was being taken to Essex’s private medical facility for further testing and to begin the trial. During the travel and initial time with Essex, Jasper had begun to hope that this was the start of something different. A new chapter in his life where he could live without having to be so careful. He could help others and start a new life for himself. Essex had told him that he was promising and would be a perfect start for the testing program. Maybe, for once, Jasper would be doing something good with his life.

He had a latent gene that Essex called the ‘X-gene’. Jasper didn’t know what it meant, but everyone had seemed really excited about it. And after his ‘therapy’ started, he realized that he had nothing to be excited about. His ‘therapy’ was, as Essex explained it: different tests to try and cause his latent gene to mutate. Supposedly, this could help his bone structure become more stable, perhaps even heal him completely. What little excitement he had felt towards being healed was dashed the moment he’d endured his first ‘test’. And it was gone by his second ‘test’. In fact, Jasper didn’t know how many different ‘tests’ he had endured at the hands of Essex and his lab buddies. All he knew that was time blurred around the stress, pain, and torture he’d been subjected to. His body had been put through the ringer over and over again, his mind cracking a little more with each failure of his gene to mutate.

It happened, though. It happened one day, when the test was exposing him to mild toxins. Well, ‘mild’ was subjective. He was being forced to consume toxins that wouldn’t kill him, but most certainly stressed his body enough to cause him to vomit, hallucinate, and fall into muscle spasms. His dehydrated, battered body fought against the newest toxin by locking up completely, causing him to scream until his voice cut out and his body began to shake. Lights flashes behind his eyes and then – nothing. The pain had forced him to pass out, and when he woke, it was to Essex standing over him, smiling. He’d never forget that fucking smile.

Jasper woke to green skin and red hair. He woke to his body feeling stable and strong for the first time since he was an adolescent. He woke to Essex not giving him any time to rest, immediately putting him through tests that would reveal his newfound abilities, his strengths, his weaknesses. It was a never-ending cycle that frazzled the delicate edges of Jasper’s already crumpling sanity. The only thing that kept him going was the notion that he could learn from Essex. He could learn his powers, his abilities, and learn how they could work in his favor. All he had to do was have patience, sit and suffer in silence, let his emotions brood as he went along with everything the mad man subjected him to.

He learned. He waited. And when the time was right… he escaped.

Currently, Jasper is an American citizen living in New York city. He runs a florist shop and nursery, one of the most popular in the state. He fights for environmental rights, is strong and passionate, and has a killer smile. Among the many citizens of New York, he was just another average guy trying to make a living.

Powers/Skills/Gadgets:

> Plant Manipulation – the power to manipulate plant-life, in the form of creating, shaping, and manipulating plants of all kinds (wood, vines, moss, leaves, roots, seeds, etc). Manipulation can lead to growth, attack, movement, and the like by rearranging DNA structure within the plants. This also allows for the revival of withered or dead plant life. This ability requires energy from Jasper. Larger plant items take far more energy from him than smaller things. So, instead of creating massive redwood trees, he often uses vines. He uses this ability in his day-to-day life to revive plants, too, which takes almost no energy from him at this point. More practice with a specific type of plant over time and reduce the amount of energy it takes him to manipulate.

> Photokinetic Regeneration – the use of light to regenerate the body. Or, essentially, using the sun to increase healing factor. The worse Jasper is injured, the longer he has to remain in the sun. Near-death would require several hours of exposed sunlight. Because of this, Jasper does utilize special lights to simulate sun. It works, but can take about 1.5x longer to heal than direct source sunlight.

> Plant Generation – the power to generate plants of all shapes and sizes, either from existing plants or by simply manifesting them. The plants have to be familiar and established, often physically touched before they can be generated. Again, this power drains energy based on the size of the plant being generated, so Jasper utilizes vines a lot. More practice with a specific type of plant over time and reduce the amount of energy it takes him to generate.

> Chlorokinetic Blade Construction – the ability to create bladed weapons from plants. Depending upon the type of foliage, the blade-shapes can also posses a variety of abilities related to the foliage itself. This ability requires focus and a lot of energy, often draining the user who keeps the blades manifested for too long. Potentially the most energy-draining for Jasper, so he uses it only in extreme circumstances. Requires the most genetic alteration of the plant material, so it requires more focus, too. The larger the blade, the more focus/energy drain. Jasper has a tendency to utilize small, dagger-like blades because of this.

> Botany Intuition – possessing an extraordinary skill in botany, or an innate knowledge of plants and fungi. This involves having an intuitive rapport with plants, insights into their psychology and behaviors, and a more empathetic connection with them. This ability was only partially learned by Jasper, with most of his knowledge coming from the plants themselves and from his mutation. It allows him to utilize plants more efficiently and work them in his advantage if he needs.

> Skin Pigment Manipulation – the ability to manipulate skin tone, in order to integrate into the general population. At this point in his life, Jasper can manipulate his skin to remain in its normal state for up to 5 days without having to revert back to his true form. It is a very slow drain on energy, requires almost no focus on his part. He often does not need to extend his time in his normal state, however, for even being allowed and hour in his true form would reset the energy he needs to remain in his normal state.

> Chemical Immunity – immunity to chemical attacks, poisons, bacteria, fungi, and even viruses that would affect humans and animals. Jasper has immunity to the previous listed, which includes most super chemicals. 'Most' is listed simply because there can always be exceptions, but those that tend to be based around 'natural' abilities - like pheromones - seem to have no effect on him.

Weaknesses:

> Fire – a natural weakness. This is potentially one of the biggest weaknesses possessed by Jasper. Fire can wreck natural life, and the same goes for him. His ability of being human does keep his plant-life safe for a longer period of time than those not under his influence, however.

> Lack of Sunlight – has to rely on ‘reserved’ energy in his body in times of darkness. Jasper's abilities tend to drain energy naturally, but being in the sunlight counteracts a lot of the draining by replenishing it. If he is in the dark, however, he relies on his body's stored energy from the day. This is a supply that can run out, but it takes a lot to completely drain it. Minimal amounts of sunlight - or artificial sunlight bulbs - can replenish it quickly and easily. He can absorb sunlight through plants he has generated if they come into contact with the light sources, too.

> Dehydration – a natural weakness. Jasper has to drink a lot of water if focusing on specific types of plants and his abilities. If he works with those who are capable of storing water well - like succulents and cacti - then he does not fall victim to thirst as easily. If he summons a plant that actively stores water, he can absorb the moisture stored within the plant and regain strength/energy lost if it does not hit a deficit from producing the plant in the first place.

> Intrusive Thoughts – being able to communicate, in a sense, with plant life mentally can distract, and force an appearance of mental instability at times. Plants are living creatures and have a capability of communication through Jasper mentally. He can empathize with them and understand their needs through mental links and physical contact. However, this can sometimes muddle his true thoughts and cause confusion if he lacks focus.

> Pollution – extremely unclean air and water are a detriment to focus, energy, and ability.  Plants need clean air and water to survive. Jasper falls sensitive to unclean conditions just like plants. However, certain plants that are utilized to clean the air/water can purify the space around him and provide him energy instead of draining it.

> Pesticides: the use of chemicals and toxins to destroy plants. Every day pesticides do not effect Jasper, mostly. Stronger ones with more powerful chemicals can cause mild irritation to his skin. However, the use of a chemicals that often need licenses to acquire with a special order can weaken him greatly. These types of chemicals and pesticides are not readily available.

Player Ons/Offs: bloom for me.

Extras:

> Jasper is an anti-villain, often focusing his thievery on corporations that harm the environment. He then puts those stolen funds – most of them – into places that would use them for good. While he steals monetary items, he also works to dismantle those corporations in any way he can, often in the form of whistle-blowing or leaking pivotal information while maintaining his own privacy.

> Jasper is pansexual.

Vergil Tanner

Ooooh! A plant-based villain! And a sexy one, too!
See, I'm acting surprised as if I didn't pressgang you into the game in the first place :P

So you say he's an antivillain who largely relies on stealing shit and whistleblowing and whatnot. Does he ever resort to more aggressive methods? EG, if a company "resists" his attempts to pull them into the light, is he capable of using things like blackmail, kidnapping, bombings and other terrorist strategies to get his way? I think that would push him towards the anti-villain side of the spectrum rather than the anti-hero, since he's on the fence at the moment. :-)

And that is when Jasper met Nathaniel Essex.

This is where everybody collectively goes "Oh No." xD
It's on the same level as going "Oh yeah, I met this organisation that said they could fix me! What were they called...H...Hydra?" xD

Quote from: Mael on June 15, 2020, 11:07:30 AM> Plant Manipulation

Ok, so...when you say he can make plants grow larger and whatnot, I assume you mean he can make them grow larger than they otherwise naturally would, right? How much larger? Is there a size cap on it? How much solar energy does it take to create these plants that are super-size? What other effects can he achieve by manipulating their genetic code? Are these plants rooted to the ground, or can they uproot themselves and plant themselves elsewhere?
Also, can he restore parts of a plant? EG, there's a house made of wood. That wood has been cut, shaped and treated. Can he restore it to life, or is that too far gone for him?

Quote from: Mael on June 15, 2020, 11:07:30 AM> Photokinetic Regeneration

So he doesn't have durability? Is he superhumanly durable, or is he a squishy human who relies on his healing factor to mitigate damage? If that's the case and his healing factor runs on a battery, I'd be ok with you increasing the power of his healing factor; his HF is super strong, but runs off of a limited charge seems like a fair compromise. But I am surprised you didn't throw in at least enhanced durability in there xD

Quote from: Mael on June 15, 2020, 11:07:30 AM> Plant Generation

By "familiar and established," you mean he has to be familiar with them and he can't just make up new fictional plants?

Quote from: Mael on June 15, 2020, 11:07:30 AMChlorokinetic Blade Construction

What do you mean by "extra abilities?" Can you give some examples? How sharp are these blades? What can they cut through and how tough / resilient are they?

I'd be initially hesitant to grant a blanket immunity, but considering how many weaknesses he has and the gap in this ability, I'm willing to allow it. With his herbicide vulnerability, in order to hurt him I assume you would need either something specifically designed to target him, or a herbicide that you'd buy from an industrial-strength manufacturer for professionals and large-scale land clear, right? Either that, or a WHOLE LOT OF IT. What kind of strength and / or volume are we talking here?
Also, does his empathic link with plants give him resistance to telepathy, or does that mean that he's more susceptible to it? Or does it not affect his resistance either way, he's just "neutral?"

Quote from: Mael on June 15, 2020, 11:07:30 AM> Fire – a natural weakness. This is potentially one of the biggest weaknesses possessed by Jasper. I'm assuming that a lighter isn't gonna bother him. So what kind of temperature / size would it take for a fire to bother him? When you say that he keeps his plant life safe, are you saying that he grants his plants a resistance to fire? How far does that resistance extend?

ALSO! A few notes from my pressganged volunteer adviser!

1. When he uses plant manipulation for "movement" or "attack" what kind of speed are we talking about for movement, and what kind of strength are we talking for "attack?" What are the physical capabilities of these plants, and how much can Sumac increase their natural strength / resilience / speed / etc?

2. You were pretty good about giving a sense for what he'll use in most situations, but didn't really give a sense of what his upper limits are, specifically when it comes to plant generation. How much can he generate at one time? How quickly can he generate them? How much power does it take out of him?

3. More of a backstory thing. If pollution is a weakness of his, why did he choose to move to a metropolitan area with more pollution than, say, a rural area with less pollution? How badly is he affected by pollution?

4. If he's on the run from Sinister, is he still using the same name he was born under and used to participate in Sinister's "study?" How much does Sumac know about Mister Sinister, Nathaniel Essex and the connection therein? Nothing? Everything? Middling? Etc.

Thanks in advance <3

Thus far, Jasper can make most non-tree plants up to 4x their natural size and trees 2x their natural size. Enlarging trees can withdraw 25% of his energy, but if they are in sunlight can also aid him in regaining that energy faster. The plants he manipulates do not have to be rooted to the ground, except for trees. When pertaining to attack and movement, Jasper typically relies on vine species. These vines are agile and fast, moving like snakes. He can create 2 miles worth of vines at one time. If creating the largest trees possible, he can only produce 3 at a time and almost nothing else. Plants simply manipulated by Jasper have 2x their natural resilience, strength, and speed.

> Photokinetic Regeneration – the use of light to regenerate the body. Or, essentially, using the sun to increase healing factor. The worse Jasper is injured, the longer he has to remain in the sun. Near-death would require a few hours of exposed sunlight. Minor injuries can be healed almost instantly with just a few moments of sun exposure, or a few minutes depending on severity.

His limitations here are very similar to the limitations he has when utilizing his plant manipulation. Plants generated/created by Jasper have 4x their natural resilience, strength, speed, and durability.

> Chlorokinetic Blade Construction – the ability to create bladed weapons from plants. Depending upon the type of foliage, the blade-shapes can also possess a variety of abilities related to the foliage itself. The abilities taken on by the blades are correlated to the plant material itself: poison ivy would cause the injured to also contract the effects of the plant while receiving the physical damage. Their sharpness is comparable to a sharpened sword blade, while their durability is long-lasting due to it being created from plant material. However – it is dependent upon the plant itself he creates it from. A blade forged from flower petals won’t be as durable as a blade formed from thick vines.

This is extended to any current plants under his influence through manipulation or generation. While typical flame could cause minor damage to him, it would take white flame [1300-1500C/2400-2700F] to cause him or his plant extensions real harm – severe burning, destruction of plant life. This sort of flame would also have to be widespread to counter his healing factor, the size of a large bonfire.

These types of chemicals and pesticides are not readily available to the general public. He would also need to be physically drenched in them for several minutes or have them injected into his body for them to cause any severe damage.

If they do not comply, he resorts to more heinous methods: blackmail, small bombings, and ironically – arson.

> Jasper is pansexual.

Alright, I've made alterations to his bio to reflect what y'all have asked about. Hopefully that clears up some of his limits/abilities a little more!

Vergil:
- yes, he has to know the plants and be familiar with them to generate them.
- as for telepathy, I just figure he's neutral, but I'd feel bad for whatever poor soul delves into his mind xD

Volunteer (whoever you may be!):
- Jasper moved to NYC because it has ties to those companies and corporations he would be trying to take down. He is more sensitive to pollution, but his ability to regenerate and heal helps him no be constantly weakened by it, if that makes sense?
- I added a birth name to his bio! Thanks for pointing that out, I thought something was missing. As for how much he knows about him, I assume he knows basic things but has been spending his time learning more about him. Kind of what he focuses on when he isn't terrorizing companies that are destroying the planet.

Let me know if there's anything else I should work on!

So, not about to punch through tank armour, then?

Ok...what is the strongest blade he could possibly create? If he went out of his way to make the sharpest, most damaging blade he possibly could, what would it take to stop said blade? Body armour? Riot shield? Tank armour? Vibranium? xD

I was going to say to lower this temperature if it's a weakness, but considering that's not as hot as a common, commercial propane torch, I'd say that's fine. However, if it takes that kind of heat to damage him, it isn't really a weakness, is it? Which is why I would suggest...

Quote from: Mael on June 17, 2020, 09:41:33 AMThis sort of flame would also have to be widespread to counter his healing factor, the size of a large bonfire. [/b]

Change this. Maybe fire doesn't so much hurt him as it suspends his healing factor, so he has to heal from burns and fire damage "at the normal rate?" It still takes a propane torch level temperatures to hurt him, but it is not damage that his healing factor can deal with. That would make it more of an actual weakness. :-)

Yo, Mael! So, one last point from my puppy friend!

Flora doesn't really have strength and speed the way fauna does. Durability wise and weight-bearing, yes, but not so much striking power. So a useful baseline to know would be how strong these vines and trees and plants and whatnot are compared to fauna. EG, does one of his vines equate to an average human in terms of speed, or is it more like how quick a snake can move? How much force can one of these vines exert in a single blow? Enough to cause a bruise, or can it dent steel? Or even punch right through it? How much can it lift in terms of tons on its own? Etc etc. That would be a good gauge to see how strong these plants can get :D

Jasper #3
Sumac
Real Name: Jasper North [birth name: Jordan Smith]

Typically, the blades can cut through body armor.

This is extended to any current plants under his influence through manipulation or generation. While typical flame could cause minor damage to him, it would take white flame [1300-1500C/2400-2700F] to cause him or his plant extensions real harm – severe burning, destruction of plant life. Fire suspends his healing factor, meaning that burns he sustains would have be healed at a normal rate.

> Herbicides: the use of chemicals and toxins to destroy plants. Every day pesticides do not effect Jasper, mostly. Stronger ones with more powerful chemicals can cause mild irritation to his skin. However, the use of a chemicals that often need licenses to acquire with a special order can weaken him greatly. These types of chemicals and pesticides are not readily available to the general public. He would also need to be physically drenched in them for several minutes or have them injected into his body for them to cause any severe damage.

If they do not comply, he resorts to more heinous methods: blackmail, small bombings, and ironically – arson.

> Jasper is pansexual.

Okay, made some adjustments. Mostly to what Vergil pointed out.
As for other questions -

- I don't think he's used kidnapping/assassination to this point. Not saying he wouldn't potentially get that far, but it's not his go-to.

- The flora/fauna questions is hard to put into exact terms. It would depend upon the species, I suspect. So, smaller vines like kudzu that have rapid growth speed but are thinner than some vines would have higher speed, but lack some durability. Whereas the larger vines like elephant creeper (that can get up to 3ft thick) would maybe lack the faster speeds (but still be pretty fast - like striking snakes) but have higher durability with the potential to strangle/dent/cause more damage in general. If that makes sense?

Hexed - I... don't understand the question, I suppose. I'm not sure how to answer it. Maybe Vergil is better suited for that question?

Hexed

Marvel's timeline is kinda wonky and has undergone several reboots. At one point a clone of spiderman was killing villains, not sure why though. Several of spidey's villains grouped up for protection.

Well crap. This is what I get for checking things on phone at work.

I'd thought the sinister seven group had Doc Ock and Shocker working together. But that doesn't happen till the Civil War. So my question's kinda moot now.

But yeah, was mostly looking to see if Vergil considered that set of events canon.  But I had the wrong team so... Ooops.

Vergil Tanner

@Mael:

Ok, so...one last question from me, and then I'll post any questions my brat subordinate has! When using vines and plants and whatnot, what's his striking power? are his strongest vines able to dent steel? Punch through concrete? Crush tanks? Contest with super-strong individuals? That kind of goes with durability too, of course, but I kinda wanna know how much contact-strength they have, including striking power, grip and crush weight. :-)

@Hexed:

I dunno. The timeline of events in this game is a little loose right now, because a lot happened in Marvel that I'm not 100% clear on xD Marvel has a convoluted history. xD My general rule of thumb is that this universe mostly follows the events of Earth-616, with minor differences happening depending on what the players want to happen. So Civil War happened, but MAYBE Iron Man died at the end of it. Kaine probably happened, but MAYBE Kaine was killed instead of retiring. You know, keep the general timeline but give some wiggle room for players to change the events slightly to suit backstories and character concepts. :-)

Gotcha! And yeah, Marvel and DC are kinda really bad about coherent timelines. I'd been contemplating offering up a tinker type OC that used gear based on Shocker and Doc Ock. Finding a time they teamed up for more then a fight and might have had a hidden lair that could have been overlooked made more sense then "Oh wow was my junk yard raids REALLY worth it." :D

Aaaah, I see. Well, make sure their limits are firmly defined! The more specific you are in the first draft, the less revisions you have to do :P

Didn't like what MCU did  to Vulture. But funnies. :D

And aye. Seen that in the other characters that the more fact and clarity they had the better. ^^

I actually really liked this take on Vulture, but to each their own!

But yhup, I like bios with clear limits and mechanisms. They make my cold dead heart feel not quite so painful. :P

Sad thing is mcu spiderman is my favorite of the movies. And the vulture character was pretty good. Just the changes to him and shocker...

That did remind me though just how much junk is left after villain/hero fights. Should have a sheet for posting after work.

Vergil Tanner

Yeah, I get that. But I also understand why they changed Vulture, 'cause the comics Vulture is a little goofy and they want the moviegoing audience to buy him as an actual threat. MCU is a little more, shall we say, "grounded in reality" than the Comics-Verse. Most of the time. xD

Oh yeah! It's an interesting question. Like, as soon as it's asked, my friend was like "Oh yeah! There IS a lot of crap left over! Who cleans that up?" xD No worries though! Look forward to reading it!

I liked the comic Vulture in that he was one of the first to beat Spider-Man. There is that ‘I’m a normal guy but I can beat you’ vibe of the MCU Vulture I really like. Plus I like that he might come back. I hate the one an done meme.

Vergil Tanner

I agree! We've had the hero teamup film, so now we need the villain teamup film!

I hope that Mysterio comes back. I know he was "killed off," but anybody who knows Mysterio wouldn't bat an eye if it turned out that he faked his death :P

On a related note, the rumours are that Black Cat will be in the next Spiderman film, which I hope turns out to A) be true, and B) be done well. Black Cat is my favourite Marvel character, tied with Agent Venom for first place. xD

Fritz
Real Name: Teressa Tilton
Also Known As: Tess
Age: 19
Place of Birth: New York City, USA
Occupation: Assistant at a repair shop
Known Associations: None
Parents / Family: Lady Teles Orphanage

Appearance: At 4'8 and 110lbs she cuts a small but soft figure topped with bright ginger locks that reach her mid-back. She is grey of eye and full of lip with a slightly up curved nose and pale, heavily freckled skin. Her wardrobe is old and worn and consists mostly of shirts, hoodies, and pants with skirts and dresses saved for rare dress up weekends.

As Fritz she is clad in a skintight suit, the majority of which seems to be made of quilted fabric in a diamond shape. The diamonds are black with red edging and run from her throat to the tips of her toes. Her feet are clad in heavy workboots with metal plating across the shin where the laces would be as well as a few other spots on the sides, heels, and toes of the boots. Both of her lower arms are covered in thick bracers with strips that run down her hand to cover her knuckles and then down her fingers where caps cover each fingertip. From her hips to just below her breasts in front and up along her spine to the base of her neck in back she wears a stiff harness in black with red circuit like traceries. From the back of the harness four tendrils of darkened metal reach out, two stretching up above her shoulders while the other two reach down along her hips. A black helmet with a red, mirrored visor covers her head.

Personality: Quiet, a touch sullen even. She has a bit of a sweet tooth and loves new tech, even if it's just something dug out of a dumpster after being abandoned its new to her. Things are stable for her but there's no real way to improve her situation and it's brewing a bit of bitterness that leads to her taking the route of the villain instead of the hero.

As Fritz she attempts to be more outgoing, following the older tradition of campy one liners. Even if she's not good at it. And sometimes decends to mocking. When even seen at all. During crimes she tries not to hurt people unless they're hero's then it's open season as a fight is what they're out for. Her targets are mostly money or materials, especially if she can embarrass any of the bigger tech companies.

Origin and Background: Born to John and Jessie Tilton although shortly after her third birthday she lost them in a car wreck. With no kin to take her in she was placed in the Lady Teles Orphanage, a busy place with many children and few caretakers. She has a knack for machines,  always taking them apart busted devices and putting them back together in working condition but only when it was directly in her hands. With a slightly above average intelligence she did decent in school growing up, not well enough for a scholarship and with the orphanage being all she had college was never really in the books.

In her early teens she roamed after school, staring in awe at the aftermath of super battles and raiding the junkyards for things to fix. Over the years she picked up many pieces of shattered gear from villians and heroes but her greatest find was a long abandoned lair belonging to one of the villain Sinister groups. She never did figure out quite which version of the group it was but there were things and tools from several tech based villains within.  While unable to spend a ton of time within the lair she slowly pieced together the various remnants into a working suit.

Once of age and with what little help the orphanage could provide she wound up in a one room flat while working at a dingy little repair shop. Over the course of a year she tried applying to many different tech firms but between her lack of a college degree and not perfect highschool grades she would rarely even reach the interview stage. Eventually she decided fuck it. If she couldn't earn it she'd take it. That her decision came during a 10 minute bus ride that took 5 hours due to trafic jams caused by road damage from a fight, well things like that just happen.

Powers/Skills/Gadgets:
Tess has the physical capabilities of a slightly overweight new yorker whose main excercise is walking to bus stops and around neighborhoods.  Pretty much the only thing going for her is an active X gene granting her technopathy in two stages. Mapping and Control.

Mapping: A touch based power where she begins to understand devices. At first it just lets her know what it does but if she keeps contact long enough it is mapped out basically giving her blueprints to it from every wire and nut. The speed of the mapping depends on how complex the item is and her understanding of the science it contains. A typical appliance would take but a minute while something like the mark 5 iron man suit would take a half hour or more. A large alien spacecraft could take upwards of several hours to fully map. Luckily for her she has no trouble remembering the things she has mapped out even if her memory isn't otherwise improved.

Control: Another touch based power dependent upon her mapping as the better she knows something the better she can control it. Unlike mapping it requires actual contact with the mechanisms not the outer shell so she has to somehow get inside the device first.

The Fritz Suit: Based on scavenged technology from dozens of heroes and villians the core of the suit uses designs from three main villains. The Shocker, Doc Ock, and Scorpina. It's a minor enhancement exoskeleton that permits her to lift up to six hundred pounds and is resistant to small arms fire. Due to being designed to counter the vibro gauntlet's backlash it's resistance to blunt force is even greater permitting it to lessen far more forceful blows such as a wrecking ball possibly only leaving bad bruising. The helmet has a basic AR overlay hud that connects to a fairly decent computer built into the harness.

Vibro-Gauntlets and Boots: Built into the boots and gauntlets of her suit are The Shocker's vibro-shock units permitting her to throw shock waves or shake things apart with a touch. While the ones in the boots work just as well as weapons they are also capable of blasting her upwards  rocket jump for maneuvering.

Tendril Harness: The back of the harness contains both the miniture power plant that powers all of her gear it also contains the computer block that runs her hud. The four mechanical tentacles on her back are based on Doc Ock's origional titanium harness. Her tendril's have a reach of 6 to 24 ft and each one can lift around 8 tons. When properly braced she can use multiple tendrils for up to 24 tons of lifting. Between the strong and tough claws on each tendril they bear different tools allowing them to assist in mechanical work either in the lab or in the field. When used for locomotion her tentacles allow her to reach just over 50mph in speed, not quite interstate speeds but fully three dimensional as the strong claws can gouge out handholds to climb up walls.

Data Spikes Thin spikes filled with circuits designed to wedge into machines to use her Control ability through. One shot devices that don't last long before burning out when she's using them as a bridge for her power they none the less allow her to use her power on things without disassembling them.  The burnout is mostly based on how much effort the device needs to control, a spike in an ATM could work for half an hour while a typical power armor would burn a spike out in 30 seconds.

Weaknesses:
She's human. Inexperienced and easily broken outside of her suit. Her technopath power takes time to work and the control aspect has further limitations.

Within the suit her primary weakness is that she has no controls instead relying fully on her Control ability to use any of the systems in it. Should her mutation be shut down her suit would become a dead weight as she's be unable to activate any of the systems within it. Furthermore her suit while tough can be overwhelmed and damaged. Any tears, rips, or holes in the suit render it unable to shield her from her own weapons and the backlash of her vibro-equipment will begin ripping into her body with every use.

Can you expand on this a little? What exactly pushed her to becoming a villain? What does she hope to achieve? Why does she hate big tech companies? Etc etc. At the moment it's just kind of like... "I was an orphan and there was a traffic jam caused by a super fight so FUCK IT VILLAIN." There's not a real sense of what her motive actually is, y'know? What led her to this realisation? What does she want? Why was she scavenging in a scrapyard in the first place? How did she get into the lair at all?

Ok, so what do you mean by "Control?" Do you mean that she knows how to use it, or she has an actual telepathic control of it, like mind control for machines? This power is very poorly defined and I actually have no idea what it actually does. So I need you to specify exactly what you mean by "control" and what it lets her do.

So what's the most amount of force it can shrug off with only a bruise? How much force would somebody have to hit her with to damage her or the suit?

Quote from: Hexed on June 18, 2020, 10:36:20 PMThe helmet has a basic AR overlay hud that connects to a fairly decent computer built into the harness.

This needs specifying. The questions that really need answering are:
-- How powerful are the shockwaves? Are they sound based or electricity based? How fast do they move? How much charge do they require? How do they charge?
-- What can she shake apart? How quickly? What's the strongest material she can shake apart and how long does it take?
-- How high can her boots blast her? How does she get back down? How does it manoeuvre her?

Also, how does she control them? How does she use them as limbs? Does she have a similar system as Doc Ock? How did she get around the...downsides...of that system?

I can't really ask anything about these because I don't know what her Control power actually does. Assuming you mean that she can control tech like puppets, what's their range? HOW does it serve as a vector for her powers, if her powers are touch based? Is there any way to protect against them?

Aaaah, ok. This should be specified further up in her "Control" entry, since that entry is vague and tells me literally nothing about what the power actually does. So what you're saying is that she controls her boots, her gloves and her tendrils all with her mind. Given that she's presumably not that experienced, how many other machines can she control when she's also focusing on her exoskeleton?

And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.
