Game Information

Genre: Action/Drama

The Setting: Southern California – 2019

The City of Angels has almost everything you could ask for: mountains, ocean, desert, cities, rural areas, forests, and everything in between. Not only is the multiple types of geography suitable for different types of racing, Los Angeles has served to glamourize the racing scene with films and TV shows to inspire the young people.

Unlike the original group game, eventually titled as Rising California, this game will mostly take place in the city of Los Angeles and the surrounding lands, roads and desert. At this point, there is no need to expand to other cities in California. This is simply due to the city being the place where the popularity of street racing erupted. Essentially, though the game will take place in 2019, imagine the street racing scene will be how it was when the first Fast and Furious film was released. Plus, this gives players more freedom to choose from a vast selection of vehicles.

At this time, there are no plans to expand to northern California or other regions.

Influence: The Fast and the Furious films, Gone in 60 Seconds, Need For Speed, Initial D, Drive(r) Redline, The Cannonball Run, Forza Horizon series. I see no reason to limit our ideas by slicing the entire RP into one style of driving, and one tone. Every character should bring their own background, and technique, so should every player bring his or her own style, and a preferred concept to storytelling.

Roleplay Type and Location: Since it will mostly involve street racing or cars in general, smut will take a backseat most of the time. Though, all players are free to increase smut or rid of it altogether in their roleplay, please keep in mind that the game will be place in Light: Human Small Groups. So only sex that is consensual is allowed. Though there is a game mechanic that involves rolls to determine the result of a street race, the game will be mostly freeform.

Size: Initially, I'm looking to have a maximum of 6-8 players. At this time, each player is limited to 1 character.

Characters: Even though this game revolves around the street racing scene, your character is not required to be a racer. I would encourage there be an equal number of racers to non-racers. In a sense, we could be looking for 4 pairs, but that requirement is fluid at best. I ultimately wish for every character to interact with more than one other character.

Every player is free to create and use their own NPC's, as much as it is necessary to further the story.

Leading Concept/Themes: This RP revolves around the underground street racing scene and the culture surrounding it. The main story will mainly be about the daily lives of individuals who are currently participants in the street racing scene or are looking to get into it. Street races and other competitions are only one aspect of the RP, so expect most scenes to be interactions between characters outside of street races and such include making friends and enemies, love and sex, furthering one's career (either in legal or illegal sectors), and family drama. Whether characters are seeking to make a racing crew or be mainly freelance, that is up to the players.

Posting Requirements: If approved, you must post once per week. If you do not post within two weeks of your last post, you will receive an Inactive Notice. This is to keep players engaged and give them the chance to communicate with the GM's either in OOC or through PM if something comes up. We respect any real-life issues you may be going through.

GM's Role: As GM, I will be in charge of approving characters, opening discussion about story plots, designing the settings and environments, and generally keep the game interesting and enjoyable for the players. I myself will have a character of my own. For street races and other competitions, I have a simple game mechanic that is based on rolls that participating players provide. I will take the rolls and creatively write up a scenario that reflects the result of each character's racing that is both fair and exciting. I will also be open to any requests that any player has.

Age:  April 21 | 23 years old

Affiliation/Roles: Nikki is a mechanic who works part-time at her father's garage. She informally-trained by her father and formally trained at a auto mechanic college straight out of high school. She also is known to accompany her brother's crew at the quarterly-held Race Wars in the desert.

Appearance:  Female, Half-Japanese/Half-Mexican. Stands at 5' 4” and weighs in at 106 lbs. Even though she works on cars, her hourglass figure could enable her to be a model. Usually wears her hair up in a messy bun when working and down on her downtime. Nikki is known to wear overalls in the garage and everywhere else, she is more of a casual fashionista, wearing garments that expose her legs and midriff. She's a more sneakers than heels type of girl.

Vehicle Preference: 1994 Nissan GT-R R32 (right-hand drive), used to be her family's daily driver in Japan, but for her 18th birthday, her father imported the car to the states. She has no wishes to upgrade the performance and any updates would be cosmetic only. The only installed aftermarket parts (installed by her father) are lightweight-alloy wheels, fully-adjustable suspension system and racing exhaust.

Brief History: Nikki was born in Tokyo, Japan to a Japanese father and a Mexican-American mother. Her father was a Hashiriya back in the day, but when he met Nikki's mother, he gave up his high-octane life on the expressway and took a legitimate career doing what he loved to do. He gained favor with a professional racing crew as a mechanic that enabled him to travel the world and watch his work fly through world-famous circuits.

A little after turning 5 years old, her parents decided to pack up and leave Tokyo for the States, eventually settling in southern California. Even at a young age, Nikki was a daddy's girl and would rather be in the garage with her father, watching him work on cars, than going outside to play. She grew apart in her teenage years due to puberty, but she was always home to see parents and older brother around the dinner table. When she turned 18 and got her driver's license, her father decided to import the family's daily driver, a black '94 Nissan GT-R32 to the States. She quickly learned how to drive stick (as well as driving in a right-hand drive vehicle) and thus was the start of her passion for cars.

After high school, she decided to go to a auto mechanic college and more or less follow her father's footsteps. Now she works for her father at his garage and occasionally attends the Race Wars event with her older brother's racing crew.

Other: Heterosexual and a virgin. Prefers older guys who drive and tune their own cars.

This does bring up a bit of a question.  Would those that are interested give us a brief idea of what sort of characters you're thinking about?  As Eliza pointed out, we are trying to keep the game more or less even along gender lines and we would like to have a variety of characters.  So we thought it might be good to get a feel for what people are thinking so we can avoid too much overlap.

hmm, I'm fairly open in general, but looking at the characters that are already here, and the concept of the rp...

I'll probably make a male mechanic type character that owns a gas station. Like, he has been running a small tuning shop and a gas station that provides high octane fuel for enthusiasts in the area for years. And due to the recent upward trend of gearheads, his business is skyrocketing. I think he would know how to race, but mysteriously decides not to do it, and would rather watch.

if your character is a driver, than I would absolutely love to be her older brother!

the more important part to me is that he works at a gas station, honestly. He could be a racer too that is afraid to do it. I could do either. No reason to change your character. That was mostly just my first imagination of a hot guy, lol.

I have a hundred ideas. So, definitely dont change your sheets on my behalf.

My character will essentially be a guy born into a shady family, and just by being in that environment ended up the same. He'd be a guy who uses his skills for illicit means, so he could be transporting bank robbers for a cut, or delivering something that has a time limit, etc... Main point is, he's a damn good driver and he knows this life.

There is no real requirement on the cars.  Feel free to run whatever you feel like, though do please try to keep it reasonable.  Obviously don't want someone with a Super Car like from Fast Five or something, but most classic muscle cars are good.

Sounds good.  Looking like we've got a good handful of folks from a criminal background.  Should make this a ton of fun to see how that all plays out.

This game is still in the works and we only have 5 characters approved. I believe it's 2 males and 3 females accounted for. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
