The Avengers Academy

The Avengers Academy is a freeform sandbox group game set in an original Marvel timeline to allow for original characters and alternative takes on existing characters. It will centre around an Avengers team that is actively recruiting, the reality of such a recruitment process and what it might take for a recruit to go from an ordinary person to Avenger. Players will be able to write as fully-fledged Avengers, who also take the role of instructors to the recruits, as well as the recruits themselves. I will be taking on a handful of instructors and maybe a recruit or two, in addition to running missions and training exercises for the players to participate in. Instructors will be able to run training scenarios of their own and can take leadership roles on missions. Though this is an academy it is not a scholastic environment akin to Professor Xavier's School. Those attending are training to be heroes, learning to utilise their powers in combat situations. They will all be eighteen and upwards, and they are not forced into this environment. Please note this game's not at all smut focused, it will have threads for those scenes but the game is very, very story focused. This game has a Co-GM, Timeless, and all CS's must be sent to both GM's via joint PM.

Premise

The Avengers are Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Few in number but great in skill and power they were first assembled in the year 2007 to combat a rampaging Hulk when Loki manipulated him into a fit of rage. Thor, Ant Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Wasp all responded in unison and worked together to bring Banner back from his rage. Loki's plot was foiled and he had unintentionally created a team that would go on to stand in the path of villainy for years to come. Wasp suggested they name themselves the Avengers and the group agreed that the name fit well.

They recruited others to their cause and occasionally worked with freelance heroes, earning the respect of SHIELD and the U.S Government and becoming a fully sanctioned group. Since then then group has managed to earn international fame, predominantly positive media coverage and the support of international organisations. They operate on a global level whenever a thread should arise that is simply above the realm of individual heroes or conventional law enforcement. The Avengers are undeniably responsible for saving the world on multiple occasions and their founding members are globally famed.

However as the amount of superheroes in the world rises, and the amount of people with a wide array of powers, there has become a need to support these potential new heroes. After a series of talks the Avengers converted their base and commenced recruitment at the Avengers Academy. Recruitment commenced in late 2018 with the game commencing in May 2019. Not all can, or wish, to commit as heavily to instructing but many see it as an opportunity to future proof the world. Nobody is forced to come to the Academy, but they accept absolutely any superhumans who are looking to make the leap to being a superhero. Training is rigorous and thorough, making certain that those who stick around are really ready for the reality of an Avenger's life.

Rules

1. Don't cause or participate in drama. Be respectful of other players. If an issue comes up, PM me.
2. Don't godmode. Exceptions made when all parties involved have agreed on it.
3. Inform the GM if you will be unable to post for significant time.
4. Write in the third person past tense. A reasonable standard of English is required. (Spellcheck, grammar check, no one liners or overly short posts)
5. Accept your character will sometimes lose fights and/or get injured.
6. Please communicate with others, seek out scenes, be proactive and involved in the game. I will always be willing to utilise NPC's.
7. Respect that this game is not smut focused and save that for appropriate threads. Do not harass players IC or OOC or be 'thirsty'.
8. Be active and involved. Try and maintain at least one active scene with any characters. I cannot have big canon names being claimed but unused.

Character Creation

Characters for this game should either be established Avengers who are working as instructors or new recruits. Players may have up to three characters. I will be allowing original characters, including ones with canon parentage. If you involve canon characters in an original character's backstory you may not kill them off, and you must be open to a player taking on their role. I will be taking a few characters to help fill out the roster and keep a few NPC's to help the story flow. This is not marvel's 616 setting. The timeline is a work in progress but in general the majority of major crossover and cosmic events can be assumed to have not happened yet.

Instructors should have a reasonable degree of experience in heroics either with The Avengers or as an individual. Recruits can have some level of experience on their own, with their most key shared trait being that for one reason or another they've signed up for this. They are not being press-ganged and if they try to leave nobody will stop them. So, they should have a reasonable level of desire to either perform heroics with the Avengers, learn to control their powers or some other strong reason to be present at the Academy.

Players may not write villains for this game. I'll be running them in a variety of missions for the potential new Avengers to take part in. I have also taken a few canon characters as NPC's due to feeling they do not fit the game as a player character. They may show up in missions, or to visit the mansion. (For example, Deadpool doesn't fit tone-wise as a permanent presence and Sentry is simply too powerful.) If there's any canon character who is unlisted but you'd like to write them I'd suggest sending a PM to double-check but I'll most likely be happy to include them. The list exists only to provide ideas. Players may reserve a canon character for a week. If I haven't seen a CS or heard further from you by then they will no longer be reserved.

Please PM character sheets to Sun Wukong and Timeless rather than posting them in this thread. Thank you!

Note: Some characters have been listed as a priority. It just means they are characters I'm particularly hoping to see in the game. Everyone/everything else listed is still welcome, as are OC's.

Hyperion
Basic Information
Name: Marcus 'Marc' Milton
Alias/Nicknames: Hyperion, Sun God, Caretaker
Citizenship: American
Place of Birth: A small town in Nebraska
Role: Avenger Instructor

Physical Description
Age: 58
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Eternal
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 460lbs
Eye Colour: Brown
Hair Colour: Auburn
General Appearance: Marc is a tall, powerfully built man with an almost impossibly muscular physique. Hyperion carries himself with confidence, good posture and a head held high. He often wears smart, professional suits when publicly appearing in his civilian persona though in his own time when trucking he dresses considerably more casually. Hyperion's uniform is a unique black set of Eternal combat armour with the nuclear symbol at his belt. When using some of his powers Hyperion glows with a golden light. At almost all times Hyperion has impeccable hygiene and takes care of his appearance.

Personality & History

Personality:

"Truth without compromise, thought without error, All things for the betterment of the whole"

Marc Milton is an alien of vast potential power, influence and ability who strives to be the most positive influence he can be on a Universe that is not his own. He is a caring person who upholds a very simple set of values. He aims to uphold truth and honesty, being open and clear and refusing to utilise manipulation or lies. He does not compromise or twist his values no matter what could be gained. Marc holds himself to a high standard of accuracy and intelligence and dislikes making errors or bad judgement calls. If he feels he cost something to earth through a mistake he will go over it in depth. Though a peaceful man and one who values hope and optimism he is willing to fight when pushed, and he will do anything that is necessary to better the world. Hyperion dislikes taking lives if he can possibly avoid it. He is a fairly hard line instructor, taking his duty very seriously and spending much of his downtime away from the Academy.

History: Hyperion is the last survivor of the Eternals of another Universe. He was sent to earth from his dying planet, the last survivor of an extinct race. Once on earth he was raised by small town folk in Nebraska, adopted by two humans who were loving parents. Marcus adopted well to human society and as his eternal powers developed he chose to put them to use defending and aiding humans. As an adult Marc joined a team called 'Squadron Supreme' and fought against criminals, supervillains and even aliens alongside other heroes.

All that changed when scientists in Hyperion's home universe predicted that an unknown cosmic anomaly was going to cause their universe to collide with another. Try as they might to understand and counteract this unimaginable disaster it was soon found to be inevitable. When the Universes collided Earth was set on a collision course with itself. Hyperion took it on himself to be the last thing to try and rescue the planet he'd come to love. Alone in space between the two worlds Hyperion managed to hold them apart for a time, slowing but not halting this cosmic disaster. Eventually though the force of the colliding universes overwhelmed him and all other matter. Marc was left floating in the void, helpless and alone in a place without any others.

He was stuck drifting in the nothingness, losing all track of time and reality as the void between universes passed him by. Throughout Marcus was lost in memories of the earth he had lost. He wished there was more he could have done, and vowed that if he were ever free of this eternity he would give himself over to helping others in any way he could. Eventually he was at last ripped from the void. A group called A.I.M freed him from the in-between, but entrapped the alien in a facility in an effort to study him. Marc was freed by other Avengers, escaping the compound and agreeing to take a place at their side.

Hyperion excelled in this role, his prior experience helping him easily adjust to heroics. Soon enough he was fully accepted as an Avenger, fighting alongside the others to several great successes. In his life as Mark Milton he chose to become a truck driver, taking no jobs but travelling the United States idly in a 379 Peterbilt truck. He found the lifestyle relaxed him a great deal, and let him gain a sense of peace after a lifetime of so much intensity and such brutal events. He currently splits his time between drifting and operating as one of the Avengers Academy's combat instructors, with a focus on high level super-powered physiology combat.

Superpowers

Eternal Physiology: Hyperion's unique physiology is common among the Eternals. His body collects cosmic radiation and operates in a process similar to nuclear fusion, specifically processing and gaining nourishment from solar photon particles. As a result, he possesses various superhuman attributes.

  • Superhuman Strength: Hyperion possesses extremely superhuman physical strength. He was able to hold two Earths apart to prevent them from colliding with each other for a period of time.
  • Superhuman Speed: Hyperion can run, move, and react at speeds that are far beyond the physical capabilities of even the finest human athlete. his top speed is beyond mach 4 (3,700 miles per hour) within Earth's atmosphere.
  • Flight: Hyperion has the ability to levitate himself and fly through the air at tremendous speeds by harnessing and manipulating anti-gravitons. At his peak, he is capable of achieving speeds faster than lightning, over 61 miles per second. Once in space, he is capable of reaching light speed.
  • Superhuman Durability: Hyperion's body is far tougher and more resistant to physical injury than the body of a human. Hyperion can withstand high caliber naval gun fire, falls from tremendous heights, exposure to near absolute temperature (from -455 to 11,000 degrees Fahrenheit without issue) and pressure extremes, powerful energy beams and great impact forces. He was also able to survive in the void of a destroyed universe.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Hyperion's highly advanced musculature converts fatigue poisons directly into cellular energy. He can exert himself physically at peak capacity for several days, his ability to convert solar photons into energy sustaining him before he begins to tire. Hyperion is also able to physically withstand the rigors of space without any special clothing, and he has stated that he does not need to breathe. Hyperion also does not require air, food or water to survive as long as his body absorb Solar energy.
  • Superhuman Reflexes & Agility: Hyperion's reflexes & agility are similarly enhanced and are far superior to those of the finest human athlete.
  • Enhanced Vision: Hyperion also possesses a superior sensory arrangement of visual capabilities, including:

    • X-Ray Vision: Hyperion is capable of peering through solid objects.
    • Telescopic Vision: Hyperion can seeing objects in clear and detail at long distance even a minuscule things like strands of DNA while in orbit.
    • Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision: Hyperion can see all forms of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as any shifts within it.
    • Microscopic Vision: hyperion can see all things down to the microscopic level.
  • Enhanced Hearing: Hyperion is capable of hearing with amazing clarity and distance, and even perceiving frequencies outside normal range.
Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Hyperion is capable of willfully manipulating great amounts of cosmic energy for a few physical purposes:

  • Atomic Vision: Hyperion is capable of firing beams of highly intensive heat from his eyes that's often referred to as Atomic Vision, as well as several others. The full limits of his Atomic Vision isn't known, but it is capable of generating up to at least 12,000 degrees Fahrenheit..
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite his body's great physical resistance to injury, it is possible for him to be hurt. If injured, Hyperion can purposely channel cosmic energy to repair damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a human being is capable of. Hyperion's healing powers also dramatically decrease the rate of his aging to an unknown degree. It isn't known if he ages at an exceptionally slow pace or if he has stopped aging altogether. He is also immune to the effects of all known Earthly diseases, viral infections, toxins, chemical poisoning, corrosives, and radiation exposure.
Hyper-intelligence: Hyperion's mind is a nonlinear photonic array, storing his memories in light, with virtually instantaneous recall: his mind is structured in such a manner that memories are to him as 'real' as the present, his most vivid memory dominating his perceptions. Hyperion is capable of processing information incredibly fast.

Skills and Equipment

Skills:

Extreme Willpower: Hyperion has shown himself willing to die for his own world before. He retained hope in the void of nothingness between universes. He is a relentlessly optimistic person who will never bow, break or compromise his values.

Hand to Hand Combatant: Hyperion has had extensive hand to hand training both on his own world and here as an Avenger. This training heavily focuses on properly utilising his powers, but he is a capable martial artist if facing a foe of similar strength.

Field Leader: Hyperion used to lead the Squadron Supreme, and is a comfortable field leader in many forms of operation. He is as good at taking orders as he is at giving them.

Equipment:

Eternal Armour: Hyperion wears a set of Eternal designed black and yellow armour with a radiation symbol at the belt. It is almost as durable as he is.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Flaws:

Solitary: Though he retains optimism despite his experiences Hyperion has come to value time to himself. He places great value in meditating on the loss of his previous universe, his actions in this one and his path as an instructor. Some can come to see him as aloof or unfriendly, though he tends to be a figure of warmth in person he so frequently evades social situations.

Inhuman: Despite acclimatising to two different earth's ultimately Hyperion is not and can never be a human. His light based memory causes him unusual social quirks, as does his sense of morality and justice. The way he remains so focused on doing good, making no errors and holding himself to an extreme standard can easily be seen as frustrating or intimidating.

Weaknesses:

Solar Energy Reliance: If depleted of solar energy Hyperion will rapidly lose his powers and become no more capable than an ordinary human. Dark radiation can greatly speed up this effect.

Magic: Hyperion's incredible durability is little defence against magic. He is still tough, but magic bypasses a great deal of his power.

F.A.Q

Why is the game in the 'Extreme' category? Most content will not fall under the extreme banner, especially not sexual content. However E's rating applies to graphic violence too and for example a villain like Venom eating someone is classified as vore and extreme even if not in a sexual context (So far as I understand it.). Any more graphic violence will have apt. warning tags! You shouldn't run into extreme content by mistake in this game. The game will almost certainly never feature any kind of noncon/extreme sexual content.

What kind of sexual content is not acceptable in this game? Player character on player character non-con. The offending character would be jailed by the other Avengers. I don't tend to make a habit of writing it with villains either due to the game starting to feel like superhero sexploitation play, which is not this game's intention. (I have no issue with that content but this game isn't that.) Bestiality, Incest and other various sexual crimes that would fit the extreme category are similarly problematic in this game.

What's the stance on Recruit x Instructor relations? No problem whatsoever. All characters are 18+ and though they may be training one another they are ultimately all adults and are trusted to behave in a professional and responsible manner. Nobody has a true position of power over anyone else as the recruits may leave at any time, cannot 'fail' their training and they are not in traditional education.

Don't need to be steeped in lore to be involved here. Many characters have space for alternative interpretations and it's not in Marvel's 616 setting so there's no huge list of past events to worry about. Definitely happy to have the interest in Wiccan. If you've got any marvel questions I'm happy to help out as best I can.

Glad to hear it! Right now technically still an interest check but interest seems positive so far.

I'd like to grab Moonknight (as a recruit - in theory maybe a bit younger than canon?  Late teens to early twenties if it suits you)  & Hawkeye  (as an instructor) please.

I don't know what face claims yet.  I'll firm it up as I get the sheets done.  (I'm hot garbage at finding faces for my characters)

I'm not entirely sure Moon Knight would fit unless he's quite a heavy re-imagining on a personal level. I actually have a couple of good faceclaims for him but both of them definitely don't look early twenties. Just because he tends to be absolutely awful at working with others and incredibly violent. I'm open to hearing ideas though.

Hawkeye's definitely fitting though!

Praxis

*laughs and rubs face*

I might not be current with Moon Knight.  I remember him as crazy.  Distressingly so but not wholly unfunctional.  I don't want to be disruptive.  Let me see if I can come up with something better then.  :)

You're also doing non-canon for the recruits yes?

*laughs and rubs face*

I might not be current with Moon Knight.  I remember him as crazy.  Distressingly so but not wholly unfunctional.  I don't want to be disruptive.  Let me see if I can come up with something better then.  :)

There's a few takes on him floating around to be honest. But I think almost universally every time he's worked with someone else it's gone pretty wrong sooner or later. He tends to create quite spectacular bloodbaths sooner or later.

And yes, non-canon's acceptable. I would generally prefer non-canon to be a little lower power but with wanting people like Moon Knight and Hawkeye I doubt that'll be an issue.

No worries.  I'm not in it for the power fantasy.  Low-power is where I eat.   I'll try to get you my lads by tomorrow at the latest.

No huge rush but with the interest so far and knowing quite a few of those interested I will say this game's almost definitely going to go ahead.

As a note on the power levels in this game, there's going to be some pretty wild variance that's going to need some light suspension of disbelief along the whole 'If Thor is there why is Hawkeye there' logic. Thor can't be everywhere, and in this game the idea is that there's a lot less Thor's than there are Hawkeye's. The stronger instructors will often be trying to take a backseat role to help train and guide, or dealing with larger threats when really disastrous things happen.

I'm kindof looking forward to that.  I appreciate the insecurity Clint Barton has regarding a need to never miss.  He's swimming in deep water filled with gods, legends and hulks.

Wasn't there a comic where he said, "If I miss, I'm just a guy with a bow and I can't be that guy.  So...I practice.  All the time."

I feel like there's a place for a guy like that as an instructor.

I'm not an expert on Hawkeye but I can definitely believe him saying something like that. He'll fit well as an instructor, he's certainly got the ideal attitude for getting others to push themselves. As for his faceclaim my natural suggestion would just be the MCU option as he has so many images in-costume.

Tempest like Angel Salvadore?

Yes...fell in love with the character just before the Depowering Hit. Was so glad when she got techno geeked...Tempest powers with the suit are as cool as her mutant powers.
